This is actually my third time eating here and I must say the food is really good. I've been to the one in franklin TN and the Raleigh location twice. I've had the fillet mignon and the salmon, both excellent choices. However, the creamed spinach steals the show. It's perfect. The only minor thing I dislike is the lighting. I understand trying to establish an ambience but I'd prefer a little more light. It's not so bad in the day but night is slightly too dim for me. read more

I had went for the 1st time yesterday & I was impressed the restaurant was very spacious & you also have the option to eat outside. Anyways I got the prime rib & it was amazing. They brought me the biggest juiciest steak it seemed like lol I'm still eating the leftovers I was so full & it was a decent price I will be returning to try the rest of the menu because I'm curious to if their sushi is good. We decided to try out a new place for brunch since our favorite, Winstons is temporarily no longer open on Sundays. Well, we were totally delighted by going there today. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. We went for brunch with another couple and all 4 of our dishes were great. We eat out every day and so were are very picky about both food and service. My husband said that his chicken sandwich was the best he has ever had in Raleigh. I had a wonderful shrimp salad with homemade Thousand Island dressing and a friend had a wonderful looking spicy hamburger with the most delightful looking stack of tiny french fries piled high. We are definitely going to be adding this to our circuit of restaurants now. I rarely write a review but in this day when service is so difficult for restaurants to find, I want to give my "hats off" for this service and food today!! read more

Had a great dinner today at J Alexanders today. The food was excellent and our waitress was outstanding. Her name is Marcia and cant say enough about her service. We love their orzo salad and if you have room for dessert you have to try the carrot cake. OMG, I think its the best we have ever had. J Alexander Place was nice looking it had mainly wood architecture and the roof was carved in like. I don't know how to explain it but it looked very well in the restaurant. -Service Service was decent but at times the waiters would just come and take your drink and don't even return for 10 minutes! What are you doing that it takes you 10 minutes to give me a COKE. Are you making fresh batches of my farm coke. Otherwise it's a decent restaurant overall. read more

This might be my new favorite restaurant in Raleigh. I wasn't sure what to expect so we did a date night-with our daughter. It's not exactly kid friendly BUT if you ask they'll tell you what is on their kids menu. Atmosphere is amazing. Dark, decorated very cool. Cannot think of a better date night atmosphere. I ordered a French martini which was not on the menu and the bartender had to look up the ingredients. Usually that is a red flag, however it was made perfectly! What a pleasant surprise. The menu is very diverse. There is literally something for everyone and for us, it seemed impossible to choose. Salads, ribs, and steak all came out perfectly. Service is top notch. We will be back ASAP, without kids, and hope to sample more on the menu! Update-down a star. Worst service we have ever had and extra horrible for my oldest daughters 16th bday. The atmosphere of this place would leave you to believe that your experience and the food would be five star. Perhaps in certain circumstances that might be the case. However, on my one time while visiting from California i had a less than pleasant experience. As someone with dietary restrictions (vegitarian/ vegan) I understand that a bistro style restaurant is less than ideal, so I had high expectations for the one or two vegetables on the menu. I had the seasonal vegetables and there was a bug in my food. While the staff was responsive and politely offered to comp my meal and get me anything else I wanted...there's no coming back from a bug (large bug), in your meal. I wanted to like it, but was grossed out. Proceed with caution, and avoid the seasonal vegetables. read more

This restaurant is FANTASTIC!! The wait for a table at a prime hour was not a long and the staff was so nice. Everything on the menu sounded so good; the portions were so big that I had to take half home. The food was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Took 45 mins for a drink and one person in our party waited a few minutes longer. Had the manager, extremely helpful set us up with someone else that was amazing. First of all, I live in the Atlanta area, I travel often and frequent hotels and restaurants both domestic and worldwide. I have never left this type of review. This is the absolute worst service I have ever encountered. The food was sub par. The atmosphere was sub par. But the service was a whole new level of awful I have never experienced. I was ignored. Insulted. Confronted. Yelled at. Told to answer "yes or no? yes or no was the bar busy?" After expressing my discontent about being ignored the entire meal. And all I ordered was a steak and glass of wine. After I tried to order a drink they turned their back to me. I Try to ask about the menu they turn to help other patrons. Both before ordering, and after my food arrived I was treated poorly. And no, it was not that busy, not every seat at the bar was full, and there were three bartenders/bar backs working. Nor was the actual restaurant busy, not at all. In fact I came here, on a Wednesday night, because other restaurants were full and this one was not. I could walk in and sit down without wait. Now I know why. Not only was it poor service it was hostile and uncomfortable. I repeatedly said it's not necessary if just like to pay my bill and go. They would stop. To the individuals defense, once they came to their senses, they apologized and asked if I'd like to speak to a manager. But only after much damage was done. I will never return. You know you have had a wonderful dining experience when the very next morning the first words out of your mouth are "wow, what a great time we had last night" That was our reaction a couple of weeks ago after dining at J. Alexanders We arrived at 6pm and were met by hostesses who seem to geniunely like being there. Our server, Holly was nothing short of outstanding and the food was just as great ! To top it off, the management team checked on us several times to ensure that the food, wine and desserts met with our satisfaction. The service was perfectly timed between courses - the first of which consisted of Nigiri Sushi and Grilled Artichokes. The sushi was fresh and delicious but was outdone by the artichokes that I was happy to declare the best I have ever had (btw - I am from Northern California and have had many a artichoke in my day). I wish I could remember the wine we ordered, but it too was from Northern California. The bottle was fairly priced and outstanding as well. The meals for our entire party of 4 were superb! Baby Back ribs, Crab Cakes and the best Ahi Tuna ever. We highly recommend them all. The final course was again a best ever - a huge slice of homemade Key Lime pie that easily fed 4. Many, many years ago, I was a server in a high end continental restaurant. As a result, my standards are pretty high. I can tell you that the team at J. Went here for brunch 1/6. I ordered eggs Benedict, my wife ordered salmon Benedict. The eggs were ok, but the "homemade" muffin it was served on was thick, cold and hard--a hockey puck. The hollandaise sauce was adequate. Not a memorable experience. read more

My most recent dining experience was absolutely wonderful, with extremely attentive service despite a terribly busy night. Everyone in your party will literally find something on this menu to suit their taste! I know the building is new, so it's hard to find fault, but they've kept it clean and in good order even during peak busy times and the restrooms are always sparkling. One of the best meals I've had in the Triangle. Bar none. Take one look at the menu and you may, like I did, see that there is almost something for everyone on this menu. And I could've easily thrown a dart and picked something I would love. But I happened to pick the BEST ribs I've had in this area. The best. My mouth is still watering thinking about them. If you love ribs, order the baby back ribs. Get an Alex salad to go with it. The best salad I've had in a long long time. We will be back there is so many things I want to try on the menu. Young daughter got the chicken tenders..nothing to write home about but can't complain about that..they're just chicken tenders after all and I got the Monterey Chicken...dry as hell and no flavor.
