We tried this restaurant for the first time last night. It did not disappoint. The outside of the building is deceiving but once you enter you immediately know you are in an upscale restaurant. The hostess was friendly and told us there was a 30 minute wait. I like that they text you when your table is ready instead of holding onto those germ ridden pagers. The bar was pleasantly full but still plenty of room along the sides. We didn't have to wait long before we were served our drinks. Emily, one of the managers introduced herself and could not be more pleasant and professional. While we were waiting on our table we took in the scene. We love the open kitchen plan. It shows confidence that they have nothing to hide as they create their wonderful dishes. The room was open and pleasant and patrons seemed to be really happy and enjoying themselves. As food was carried from the kitchen we noticed how beautiful the presentation of food looked. There is a lot of variety. We were excited to read the menu. Emily herself came to get us and personally brought us to a lovely and roomy table. FYI this restaurant takes reservations if you do not choose to wait on a table. The popular app at this restaurant are their signature deviled eggs. We thought it peculiar but when in Rome..... they were AMAZING! Better than my homemade ones! The waitress was attentive and very professional. We ordered the salmon which is brought in from Scotland and so delicious and fresh. Served with the most mouth watering long grain rice and couscous with cranberries and nuts. Never tasted anything like it. The sirloin burger was juicy and flavorful. All delicious. We are looking forward to going back to J Alexander's soon to test out more dishes. This place is worth the trip. read more

The food here is really quite good. The kitchen is a little heavy handed with salt, but still good. And seriously...the portions are so large as to border on a little ridiculous. I ordered the Brasserie Chicken which was a piccata-esque dish. Capers, lemon butter sauce, panko, pan fried. All really delicious. But I'm not exaggerating when I say the dish was 3 chicken cutlets, a large helping of mashed potatoes, and a big hunk of broccoli. Everything was well cooked and tasty, but good lord...the size! The artichokes were fantastic. Some of the best I've ever eaten. Credit where its due, though...the service is impeccable. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, every staff member there is focused on making your experience first rate. You really can't help but enjoy yourself...unless you're the sort of person who hates being waited on. I'm not that sort of person, and boy...they make enjoying yourself really easy. I enjoyed this upscale restaurant, which especially distinguished itself with its service. My dining companion and I both had salads, which were top quality and generous portions. Mine had steak and hers had salmon. When there was an unexpected ingredient in my salad's dressing, The server quickly took action to correct the problem, which I much appreciated. We shared the carrot cake and it was luscious, though I didn't notice much carrot flavor, but we didn't care since we ate every last bite. We'll be back to enjoy more from J. Tonight was our first visit to this restaurant. We were seated promptly at our reservation time and started with the steak egg rolls and deviled egg appetizers. The steak egg rolls were delicious and the candied bacon on top of the deviled eggs made them extra special. Next we shared a house salad with a delicious honey mustard type dressing. Everything in the salad was fresh and delicious. I had the brassiere chicken with mashed potatoes. Generous portion of chicken coated in panko bread crumbs served with capers, tomatoes, and a delicious sauce. My fiancé had the Cajun ribeye special. It was 16 ounces of deliciousness served with a loaded baked potato. We shared the key lime pie for desert. He had an alcoholic beverage called the doppelgänger. It was made just right. Our service was wonderful. Raina took excellent care of us. She knew the menu and gave us excellent recommendations. Our water glasses were always full and the table was kept clean of plates as we finished various items. Our bill was extremely reasonable for everything we had and everything we tasted was delicious. Hostess escorted us to our table, when the server came along I asked could he dry the table off, he stated that it was the sanitizer residue on the table. Fine but can you still dry the table off, he finally did but his body language set the tone for my evening. He asked did we want to start off with any drinks, I say yes a green tea drink, I repeated myself and said not a shot a drink. He replied back we do not have that, so I order a royal flush drink. Anyway I walked up to the bar asked the bartender did they have Jameson and peach snap, he said yes so I asked can he make a green tea drink he said sure and would bring them to my table. When my waiter returned I told him that I ordered two green tea drinks from the bar and that I didn't want the royal flush. He replied back that he didn't know what I meant when I asked for a green tea drink. So when my wife asked for the pork chop entrée he said that they were out of pork chops and that I can go ask someone else to confirm, I just shook my head because he was being a smart ass. They have the most amazing food and the servers are great but you never know which one is yours and you never know who you're tipping the other day I went in and I needed something from the manager and the manager came by she was short had brown hairs she seemed new because she had food knowledge but no people skills I've her behind the bar and she was the rudest mean spirited person and acted better then I . She rolled her eyes and said she would go get the Gm and never did !! I just wanted to let her know how great the sever was and she told me that that server is annoying I recorders it because I've worked for restaurants for a long time and never heard anything like it !!! Sunday brunch was not crowded as expected. Really nice club type atmosphere with lots of wood, comfortable chairs and booths. Excellent homemade blue cheese dressing! Everything was very good. Had an issue with my strawberry waffle, though delicious the two large waffles had only 8 slices of strawberry. Couldn't even get a strawberry per bite for one waffle? Not reasonable for a $13 meal. Service was too attentive verging on aggressive. If you set something down... over she swept to take it away. We had to say several times please leave that I am not done! Before the check had arrived we were left with a water glass and a soda glass everything else had been cleared even our napkins. Deeeelicious. While I was hesitant to get sushi at an American restaurant, the crunchy shrimp roll was excellent. My husband got the prime rib sandwich and said it was tender and very flavorful. The piece of meat on his sandwich was so thick and juicy. We finished with a GIANT ice cream cake with layers of crushed Oreos, snickers, and toffee candy. It could feed 6 people easy! The waitress was very informative and friendly. The best part was the manger bringing my Mint Julep directly to me. His conversation and willingness left a great impression on me. I made 9:00 reservations here for a Saturday night. Our party of four arrived a bit early. The hostesses were really nice and let us know they will send me a text when our table is ready. We had a drink at the bar (it was busy, but there was plenty of seating), and I received a text promptly at 9:00 when our table was ready. The ambiance is really cool... I felt like we were in Chicago rather than a stone's throw from Crabtree mall. The drinks were great! They have a few local beers on tap (if you like IPA's, order the Trophy Brewing Trophy Wife brewed in Raleigh). I ordered a gimlet martini as well (the presentation for their martinis is great... a reserve is served alongside your drink in a small glass carafe over ice). Our server, Monica, was wonderful! We had a hard time deciding what we wanted to eat (because I honestly wanted one of everything on the menu, it all looked so good), but she didn't rush us at all. For dinner I ordered the Cypress salad. The ingredients were very fresh, and (i know this sounds weird) but the croutons were delicious! They tasted like they were fresh out of the oven. My husband ordered the New York strip, which came with a side of mac and cheese. The steak was cooked to perfection, and I can attest that the mac and cheese was tasty as well! Went to J Alexander's for my birthday for the 1st time at this restaurant. The inside decor is very nice and classy. I ordered a steak and I could tell that it was very salty. My wife ordered the pork medallions and mashed potatoes and she noticed the salt content was extreme on both. The appetizer was very salty as well. We both like to go eat out often and we were disappointed by the high salt content that could be tasted in every bite. We may give the place another try but I was excited to try this place for my birthday and I was not too happy it turned out the way it did. read more

Be sure to order the steak rolls appetizer, the carrot cake dessert, and the french press coffee. Steak rolls (enough said). I usually do not like carrot cakes in general, but the one J. Alexander's serves is so good I can not stop ordering it every time I go. The french press if done correctly is so good there, but unfortunately not a lot of their waiters are properly taught how to prepare it. I saw one guy fighting with his pot to push it down. My wife and I were craving steak, we are recent Raleigh transplants, and we live very close to this location. We decided to give it a go, and we were not disappointed. Our server Dean was very pleasant, prompt and attentive. My wife had a steak that was soft like butter and very tasty. My burger was cooked to perfection. So I've been here quite a few times, on lunch breaks and casual dinners with friends/family. Usually everything is pretty good, but today I wasn't very happy with what I ordered. I actually ate here twice today; first for a sushi lunch with coworkers and then a curbside pickup order for dinner. I ordered a medium filet mignon, which unfortunately was cooked half medium, half medium rare for some odd reason. I treated myself to the carrot cake dessert, which tasted as though it had been sitting in a refrigerator for about a month or so - it had that old fridge taste to it. You could tell it was old. We were there yesterday for Sunday brunch. First time. The omelette was overcooked. The salmon eggs Benedict were cold and the biscuit so hard that wasn't posible tu cut it with the steak knife. I fell in love with this restaurant in Ohio when we were up there. For a surprise for our anniversary my husband found that it opened in Raleigh and took me there at lunch before the NC State game. My first time visiting J. Alexanders and it will not be my last. Everything about my dining experience at this establishment was awesome. We had a 8:15pm reservation and arrived a few minutes early, which we were then immediately seated at the booth my bf requested. I had the Special Cajun Ribeye and my bf had the Prime Rib. Both were cooked perfectly. For dessert I enjoyed their delicious Ice Cream Cake made in-house. If you love all things filled with vanilla, caramel, walnuts and Oreo then this is for you. We celebrated our 7th Wedding Anniversary here last night and it was a wonderful dining experience! Amy took great care of us and we felt like we were eating with a friend! The Prime Rib was delectable and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the spicy Thai salmon. The wine list was lengthy and had great variety. We celebrated our anniversary here last night, and it was out 1st visit. The food was amazing, loved the deviled eggs with candied bacon on top our server recommended you get 6 for $8 they were great. I ordered Cindy's Lemon Drop of course a Martini named Cindy OK, you get the Martini then an iced glass with a small carafe with a refill that was great 2 drinks for $12. I ordered the sea scallops they were large and amazing served with couscous and asparagus, my husband got the Caesar Salad which I had a few bites of, it was also delicious the add on was $5 it was good sized. For his meal he ordered the panko encrusted chicken, it was 3 pieces very light and tasty with the best mashed potatoes (sorry Mom) ever so yummy with some chunks definitely homemade with love! Oh, you have to ask for the bread and it's sour dough our favorite. The BEST part was the dessert we love carrot cake and it was the best tasting cake ever served warm covered with icing and melt in your mouth good. This place was a great experience large portions too which is not what you really expect from high end restaurants it's usually small portions and high price but NOT here. We highly recommend and will be back as I want to try the crab cakes and eat more carrot cake!!! read more
