Their dessert on special... our whole table could have shared it.

It was our first time going, but our friends raved about it so we took a chance and boy am I glad we did. First off all the food we got was amazing. The pecan crusted trout was amazing and my friend got the famous Mr. Jacks crispy chicken platter and those were the best chicken tenders I've ever had. The calamari was cooked perfect and well seasoned. I got a dirty martini and they bring out more of the drink in another container so you really get 2 to 3 drinks total for the price you pay, that sealed the deal for me. The server was attentive and polite and did a great job. The area was very nice and felt classy and well decorated. We will be back for sure!

    Cypress Salad and Sauvignon Blanc

One of our staples. Always consistently great. Love to pop in, sit at the bar and have lunch with a nice glass of wine. Favorite lunch item is the Cypress Salad. Service always excellent. If I want to relax a little with some wine before eating I usually let them know to not put my order in just yet - it comes out fast (very efficient kitchen).

Completely blown away by the food here! We started off with the calamari which was perfectly cooked. The coating was light and crispy and perfectly seasoned. And it was not rubbery at all like at some other restaurants. The prime rib was for sure the highlight of my meal. It was amazing by itself but the au jus took it to another level. The prime rib was super tender. And the smashed potatoes side was also really well seasoned and delicious. It was my mom's birthday so we also got a complimentary carrot cake. I didn't think I liked carrot cake until I tried this. It came out hot with a melting gooey cream cheese frosting. I'm not sure what expect was in it but I couldn't get enough. It was also a pretty sizable portion which was good for sharing. We came for an early dinner so it wasn't too busy. The decor was nice and very modern. The service was also really great! Our server was very attentive and made sure to try to make this a memorable experience for us.

I had the opportunity to come back a few times since my initial visit. The restaurant was clean. I was quickly seated. I enjoyed the Cajun trout special. The rice pilaf and the cauliflower were delicious. The service was great. No complaints. The today's catch and the steaks are my go to's from here on out. These options are way more satisfying than the starters and honestly a starter isn't needed when I enjoy these options.

My fillet was cold and way undercooked They told us 30min after we ordered they were out of baked potatoes. Service was mediocre at best So they get 2 stars

Honestly J. Alexander's is my favorite restaurant. I always get something similar but that's because it's undefeated. This time around I got a parmesan crusted steak (a dinner special) with Mac and cheese and a pear martini. Dinner...phenomenal. I'm still dreaming about it. The pear martini was a little strong for me s asked for a little bit of simple syrup to sweeten it up a bit. Perfection now! It was also my friend's birthday and they offered her a free birthday cake. It was a slice of carrot cake. We both have never had carrot cake before but wow, it was delicious. It tasted like a warm hug in the middle of fall. Highly recommend!

We had a party of 7. The service was great! The bathrooms were clean. The dinning area was a little dark but nice. The food was delicious!! Everyone in my party enjoyed their food.

Visited on 5/5/25 for my god-sister's birthday celebration. I've been here several times growing up, so it was nice to be back for a special occasion. Our server, Anthony, was attentive and did a great job handling our large party of about 15-20 people. My god-sister specifically requested him since she had a great experience with him before. Although I was a little bummed that I wasn't able to get her a birthday drink--I reminded him twice--I completely understand since he was juggling a big group. That said, I appreciated how quickly he replaced my French martini after I accidentally dropped part of my cheesesteak roll into it. Top-tier service in the midst of a busy night. Speaking of drinks and food: * French Martini - Delicious! You could really taste the fresh pineapple, but the vodka still came through. It gave me a nice buzz. * Appetizers - The cheesesteak rolls and the chips with spinach dip were so good. Great starters before the main course. * Entrée - I had the slow-roasted prime rib with smashed potatoes and a savory broth to pour over the meat. The ribeye was cooked perfectly--juicy and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were creamy, well-seasoned, and the perfect pairing. The ambience was warm and cozy, with dim lighting that set the tone for a relaxed dinner. The decor was stylish without being over the top. There's also a nice bar up front for anyone just looking to grab a drink. Overall, it was a great time and a memorable experience for a birthday dinner. Would definitely return

UPDATE: The food is still delish and our server was very friendly. We got lucky and missed both the lunch and dinner rush. Timing is everything. We did have to return our soup. It wasn't hot. But, once it was returned, it was amazing. The salad is a must try. The buttery croutons are the star of the salad. The egg rolls are a winning appetizer choice. If you have any doubt about visiting J. Alexander, give them a try. Bring your boo for date night, your friends for a meet up, or go solo at the bar. Happy eating!

What are their nonalcoholic beverages? Can they make virgin drinks?

    Yes

Do they offer a Brunch Menu? Where can I access it?

I don't think that they do. They offer an all day menu that covers what a brunch would offer plus daily specials.

Do they serve brunch on Sunday?

If I remember correctly there is a Brunch menu but it was kinda limited... well thats like most brunch menus right lol.

    J Alexander's vs. Fleming's?

    J. Alexander's is my personal preference, although I can see where there might be some specific instances where you'd like Flemings better. Flemings impressed me the first visit, but not the second. I haven't been a third :) I've been to J.…

Their roast beef panini is on par with Portillo's a long standing Chicago beef restaurant (IYKYK). I've NEVER had a beef sandwich that was better than Portillo's but Postino you managed to take a hometown classic and elevate it to a point beyond my expectations - if you get this sandwich I recommend getting it on the ciabatta bread versus focaccia. Let's not overlook the tomato soup - it's so rich and flavorful. For a lighter lunch my go to is the tuna panini with broccoli salad. They are known for their boards, I've not had the bruschetta yet but it looks delicious. My favorite board is the hummus. One thing I hate is when a restaurant gives you a big bowl of hummus and not enough pita. That is not the case here, you'll get pita, toasted bread, and a variety of vegetables to scoop up the velvety humus covered in cherry tomatoes, red onion and feta. For date night enjoy a Violet Femme a gin cocktail that tastes as lovely as it looks. The service here is top notch! Everyone is fantastic. I'll have to come back to this review to note the serves names we've had because they have all been exceptional. Now let's talk about the vibe! Postino's nailed the indoor/outdoor feel. Plenty of windows that are open on nice days, plants galore and the decor gives you a cool like rockstar but classy feel. 5 stars doesn't feel like enough.

The NY Strip arrived more than well done, so we told the waitress and she apologized and sent it back to the kitchen. As I was eating the meatloaf, I noticed an off taste and texture. I looked closer and realized it was still pink/slimy/raw! How can meatloaf be raw? It's supposed to be fully cooked first and then grilled. Whoever sliced it from the "loaf" should have noticed it was not cooked before throwing it on the grill! We notified the manager when he came to apologize for the NY strip, so he took the meatloaf back to the kitchen. When the NY Strip came back out, my husband cut into it and it was shiny and purple inside, from top to bottom...absolutely rare. The waitress agreed it was rare and took it back to the kitchen again. When it came out for the third time, it was perfect (third time's a charm, I guess?). The only saving grace was the kind waitress who felt awful about the sub par food. The kitchen put her in an uncomfortable position, but she handled it with grace. We ordered the chocolate torte for dessert and it was very good, but that's the only thing I'd return for.

Elevated American bar food that was cooked to perfection and had some nice fusion flavors: sesame tuna with edamame, goat cheese, walnuts and a special kind of beet that made my salad fresh and earthy. It felt $2 overpriced in both instances. I don't know if I'd get again, but the fries were seasoned well. My fiancé ordered the braised pork shoulder. The meat was tender and had a decent flavor. The mac and cheese was okay, nothing special. Overall, the dish was drowned in too much barbecue sauce to the point he felt he was eating more sauce than the entree.
