Friendly, Flexible, Extremely Speedy I called J&B for some work on my car, and they were very flexible with what time I dropped it off at (though their actual operational hours are pretty average. They went beyond the repairs requested, informing me of some parts that were getting pretty worn and were "something to watch out for." I think it is important that they did NOT try to upsell me into replacing them right away. All-in-all, the work (oil change + brake caliper/rotor/pad replacement) took about hours, which was a good deal less than I expected. Less time makes for a bill that's easy on the eyes too. Definitely coming here for any work from now on. read more

I had an unfortunate tire accident on 90 where both tires were blown out due to the construction. I called early at 8am, was able to get the car towed and within a couple hours Bob was able to look at the car and provide a full (and accurrate) estimate. He was very professional, fair and worked diligently to get my car back to driving condition. They not only replaced the tire, but checked several other items and ensured my car was in better condition than I brought it. I will absolutely bring business back to J & B when I am in need. Dependable, Cost-Effective, Friendly I'm glad to be the first person to review J & B on Yelp. Dependable - No surprises yet after multiple visits. They give you an estimate and repair what they say they will repair. Cost-Effective - We've had 2 cars repaired there and the bill is sometimes smaller than we would expect. So far they've been easy on the pocket book. Friendly - My 21 year old daughter likes them, and she's a good judge of character. They treat her nicely and that's important to her (and to me). So far I've taken my 2002 Toyota Camry and 1997 Toyota 4Runner there for repairs. Tomorrow my 1998 Saab goes in for some work. I wish they advertised more. Nice people like them deserve all the good business they can get. read more

So my car has had a couple repairs done at J&B and while it wasn't 100% perfect, these guys really try hard to put their best foot forward. Historically, they repaired a bad exhaust pipe and a noisy heat shield for me at an affordable price and were super quick and friendly about it - giving me a couple options for how to handle each issue, with costs and possible outcomes. Well, the latest thing was that I was having a chronic problem with my car performing poorly in cold weather and after a couple "repairs" at a couple different places, it persisted. I had found a service bulletin about my problem and sent it to them. At first, Eddie was skeptical and said it wasn't an issue he had seen much and their troubleshooting indicated something other than the gasket that the bulletin cited. Despite that, I asked that they humor me and replace the gasket in the bulletin. They were happy to accommodate. Luckily, my instincts were good on this one. They seem to have fixed the issue and I didn't have to replace the sensor that they originally suspected was faulty. Throughout the whole thing they were really straightforward and factual - telling me why they thought it was the sensor and not the gasket in the bulletin and details about the troubleshooting they tried, etc. They were also polite and respectful about hearing me out when my opinion differed from theirs - no condescending mechanic-talking-to-a-silly-lady-driver here. Despite that they didn't hit it on the bulls-eye, they handled it really well and I do believe they are capable, skilled, friendly and candid. I'll totally be back. read more

J & B automotive understands great customer service. I had a problem with my car that required a few trips to their shop. I have a two year old daughter and so making the trip to the shop was not easy. They were able to come and pick me up at my apartment and take me to the shop and / or take me home while my car was being worked on. Also, when they were sent an incorrect part by the car manufacturer, they helped me obtain a rental car since the car would not be ready on the date expected. They are great. Bob is the most honest and quality mechanic I've known. My family (all) have been going there for many years. They have worked on my families cars which have been 1998 Buick, 2015 Toyota, 2000 Chrysler, 2005 Honda, and 1996 BMW. I've since moved to Naperville, but still come back here as I know I can trust them completely to do quality work with no taking advantage of my limited car knowledge. My Dad grew up in the 60s - 70s in Detroit and he has great car knowledge and assured me that this place is honest and knowledgeable. E.g. I had a car that I thought needed a new alternator, I brought it in and they charged the battery (for free) and said, "no it was just the battery." read more

Great shop, fair and they really explain to you what the issues are. Appreciate their caring attitude and them going the extra mile when other shops don't even bother. They may not be able to figure out every problem the first time but with cars now days expect this to occur from time to time with any shop. I wish YELP had more stars so that I could give these guys a higher rating! I am a new customer of J&B Auto, and VERY satisfied with their level of service. I have been living in Chicago for 10+ years and I've always struggled with finding a good mechanic that I can trust. This place was highly recommended to me by a close friend, and I can tell you that they have earned my business for life. My car was making a "funny noise" and since I know nothing about cars I needed to go to someone who wasn't going to rip me off and take advantage of my lack of knowledge. The guys at J&B were able to fix my issue, and explain things to me along the way. I liked that they gave me pricing options so I could decide what was best for my budget. My car is seven years old and there were several things wrong with it when I brought it in. I liked the fact that they were able to explain to me which repairs were necessary for the safety of my vehicle, versus which repairs were more cosmetic, and not immediately necessary. I also was impressed that the owner himself (Bob) was the one working on my car. He was patient with me and even let me send him an audio recording of the noise my car was making (which I am sure made me look pretty crazy). He also did extra work on my vehicle at NO CHARGE (rotated & balanced tires) just to ensure all "funny noises" were eliminated. I also had a great customer service experience with Matt, the manager who went over all of the details of my repair with me. When I came in to pick up my car he took me in the shop to show me all of the parts they had replaced. He went over them and explained how they worked, which made me feel even better about the repairs. The parts that he showed me from my car were so badly damaged I am surprised I didn't have a larger issue! I was genuinely excited when I left because I felt like I had learned something, and that has never happened to me at a mechanic before. Matt was wonderful, and I appreciate him taking the time to review everything with me. I now know why my friend had such great things to say about this place. They are nice, honest, hard-working guys who are experts in their craft. I liked them so much, I plan on taking my car there from now on to get my oil changed, instead of going to Jiffy Lube. I want to support this small business because they did right by me. I encourage you to go there for all of your auto repair and maintenance needs! Great shop! Bob and his crew did a fabulous job on my 1972 Mustang. They rebuilt the 351 engine from the block to the chrome Edelbrock air cleaner. It was a complete rebuild and the car was amazing. He also installed a new fuel tank and replaced my radiator and shroud. Great work and very reliable. I've taken all my cars to J & B, from GM to Ford and Dodge and BMW. I have to say first off that I HATE having my vehicle repaired-especially being a female with little or no knowledge of these kinds of repairs. My first (of now many) visit to J & B was a wonderful experience. Bob was courteous and honest about the problem and even urged me to go elsewhere for another opinion. No business does THAT in these hard times! Long story short-Lalo the mechanic worked side by side with Bob in determining the problem and best course of action. My nightmare was over in a matter of hours! Now I'll let you know that J&B repaired my vehicle for HALF of what the Nissan dealership quoted (because I went there first) and Bob even pointed out a problem that Nissan NEVER saw-and fixed it for FREE! I tell EVERYONE about this place because I take my vehicle here. If they don't take my advice-it's their loss in the end. My only fear is that Bob sells the place! It'd be like losing my doctor! I've had intermittent electrical issues with my older 97 Jeep Wrangler that would not go away for the past 6 months last Fall 2015! (4) times my jeep would die on the road and (4) times I would tow it to a local mechanic or a jeep dealership and try to get it fixed but the electrical issues would always come back & stall my car on the road. Not good and not something I like to deal with. I was loosing faith in my trustworthy jeep and all local mechanics as what I thought was the right diagnosis (4) times ended up to be the wrong (4) diagnosis or bad repairs. So, my jeep sat for (2) months dead as a doorknob maybe ready to be scrapped or sold. Then, one day I saw that Bob - the lead mechanic owned the same older Jeep Wrangler as mine, and I decided to give him & J&B Automotive a try at fixing my Jeep as he would be knowledgeable around Jeep Wranglers too if he owns the same car. Boy was I RIGHT! Bob, Matt, and the J&B Crew solved the electrical issue and got my car roadworthy. They saved the faulty part to show to me which I always like to see myself. Plus, their pricing was fair and straightforward. I have gained new faith in my 97 Jeep Wrangler and they have gained a new customer for life. Take your car to J&B Automotive.
