Unlike all of the arborist companies I've hired in the past, who left unsightly stumps, Randy at Chip-Away has a small chipper that can be maneuvered through narrow garden paths and is able to remove stumps to a depth of 14 to 15 inches. Randy and his wife Kim are affable and easy to work with. I had two 6' x 36" aspen stumps/root balls, one with about 6 feet of trunk left on it, and two 30-year-old damaged arborvitae removed for $850. He included another small aspen stump at no cost. Our arborist referred us to Chip Away and they were terrific. They called promptly to set up an appointment for an estimate. Randy arrived when he said he would, gave us an estimate for less than the other company we had contacted. We made an appointment to have a large cherry stump ground. They took care of ordering a utility locate and a week later, we have a large pile of cherry chips to use as mulch and no stump! I appreciated that Randy did his best to avoid my emerging daffodils and set up a net barrier around the stump to contain the chips while he was grinding. He was thorough and concerned, especially since one of our large stumps was near power/cable lines. Not only did he take the time to explain things to us, he used a debris shield to keep the dust to a minimum and his clean-up of the job site was fantastic. I needed 4 stumps removed as part of a fence project. I called Chip-Away and they were incredibly easy to deal with. They came out to do a free estimate and returned soon thereafter to do the work. Randy did a great job getting out the stumps making sure to follow the roots as far as possible to prevent re-growth. He even took the extra time necessary to get one that was right up against a concrete wall. It even had a pipe stuck in the middle of it which required a certain amount of finesse. He could have easily said that he couldn't do it. It especially meant a lot to me that he took the time to clean up the mess and smooth the dirt out when he was finished . At the end of the day, the whole thing only cost me 200 bucks which I thought was a bargain considering how much time it would have taken me to try to dig those things out. It costs about $150 to rent a stump-grinding machine anyway, so this is definitely the way to go. Quick, easy and the job is finished correctly with minimal fuss. Chip-Away Tree Grinding service did an AMAZING job in our front yard. They cleared away a rather large stump from a tree that had been cut down and all the roots with in about 10 feet of the stump for a VERY reasonable price. My yard looks great and best of all NO MORE little miniature trees popping up everywhere on the roots that were left. This was a sweet gum tree and they have a very massive bad root system which is hard to get rid of and he did it! Kim was always very attentive and had a great personality. She kept me informed of everything along the way. I'm going to enjoy my front yard SO much more now that I don't have to keep cutting down those suckers every other week. Can't wait to redesign the new area. Time to get rid of the stump in my back yard next! I'd recommend them to anyone looking to have a stump ground up and root system too. Kyla read more

Randy did an excellent job removing my two stumps and cutting back a root that was growing towards our patio. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and careful. When removing a stump near my gutter drain, he made sure to dig out the surrounding dirt to locate the pvc pipe that was carrying the water underground. We called Chip-Away to remove a stump from a 30+ year old tree we had removed in the front yard. They answered all of my questions and provided a courteous quote via email (we also talked over the phone but I preferred and appreciated the email communications!). I believe the quote was a fair price for the work being done. The stump was 6-7 feet in diameter and was no trouble for these folks. They arrived as promised and removed this eyesore from my yard. I asked to keep the remains of the stump in a pile so that I could use it to spread around the flowers in the yard. They really did a super nice job and that goes for the exceptional cleanup afterwards.
