Surprisingly really great! This place has a ton of healthy options, with the fresh juices and nice dinner menu to the "ready made fit food" in the corner. Service was excellent as well. I would come here probably everyday if there was one in vegas, where I live. I had the raspberry salmon and veggies which were cooked nicely. The only thing is I wish I tasted the raspberry more.. Very disappointed by lack of professionalism displayed by girl at register when I came in for juice (regular customer too). I stood there for over 5 minutes and she never even acknowledged me even to say I will be right with you. I have never had such an experience before in my many trips here. The staff is always so friendly but not this one with the ponytail! And no one was even in there so no excuse for being busy. She even took the call after I was standing there and never looked up once. I politely told her she might want to acknowledge a customer in the future -most customers would not have been so understanding! I just paid for a frequent juice card yesterday so I spend a fair amount at this place and did not appreciate her lack of professionalism or plain courtesy. Earlier today, my friend and I decided, "hey, let's not to go Dunkin Donuts, let's try Juice and Java." Now, let me tell you how it went down from there. 1. Regarding the young lady manning the counter, she's the Major Tom of cashiers. Confused by my order of "Can I have an espresso please" -- more about this in a moment -- my following request for a bagel toasted with cream cheese resulted with a stare right from the Deadzone. My friend's order went like "Who's on first." 2. Perhaps I'm just in marketing (I am), but if the name of your operation is "Juice and Java," don't you think you might offer espresso? 3. My friend orders some egg, salmon, and some fixings on a bagel. I think foodie's refer to it as a "deconstructed s*** in a shingle." The order arrive -- in a to-go bag (huh), my toasted bagel arrived untoasted, friend's bagel was missing in action, as were about 1/2 of her fixings (onion, tomato, etc.). Now, about that bagel -- the one we split (restaurant later provided said MIA bagel) -- odd would be the best way to describe it. Shaped like a GIANT (8 inches round or so) capital letter O (like Oprah's logo), it was heavy on sesame seeds, lacked taste, and with one rather small serving of cream cheese. We came for lunch and ordered a smoothie, quesadilla and pesto chicken pasta. The smoothie was not bad but tasted watered down. The quesadilla was actually good. The pesto was a very thin blinded green milky water and tasted as such. I could not eat it. However I gave the 1 star because of the terrible service. After our food was dropped off I didn't see our waitress until we needed a check. She asked if I needed a box and I said no thank you. The pesto was not good at all and I would not be eating it. Instead of offering something to replace it or taking it off the bill she said thank you for your opinion very smugly. I personally will never return to this place. I frequent this spot for fresh juices. I enjoy the fresh food there and the gluten free/vegan items and the grab and go options. My experience depends on who is working. Some of the front staff are very friendly and personable. The manager/owner or whoever the gentleman is who is usually there standing by the kitchen window is very unfriendly. My main complaint here is the less than friendly service, and I'll get to that. I ordered the bbq chicken wrap which was okay I suppose. Their hummus appetizer however, was terrible. They used wheat pita which tasted like cardboard. The hummus itself was watery, and had olive oil floating on top. Hummus is supposed to be thick. This was a bizarre texture, like they made it in a blender and doused it with oil. It was also tasteless. The worst part was the blonde girl with glasses who was sweeping in preparation for closing. She was obviously irritated that anyone was in there even though they were not closing for 45 minutes. They brought my food in a to-go bag even though I did not ask for it to-go. A couple came in and ordered some items to go and were out the door 15 minutes before they closed. The blond girl turned to her coworker at the register and said "doesn't he know what time we close?" There's a comical, conversation ruining, amount of blender noise going on constantly, seemingly for hours at a time (this is barely hyperbole). I found this place by accident, and was very excited. The restaurant was empty. I asked the girl who was cutting pineapple what was good since it was my first time. I obviously was bothering her. I ordered the Mediterranean salad off the restaurant menu. Which was hummus,quinoa and tabbouleh n salad. I asked if they could leave off the tabbouleh and put more hummus and quinoa. They said yes. When I got home it was all hummus. I called and she said it's tabbouleh quinoa. I asked why didnt they tell me at the time I made my request. A new favorite lunch spot! Their food is fresh and light and they also give you large portions. I really love the smoked salmon caprese salad. The tofu wrap was pretty good as well and quite filling. Today I was thinking about what to eat for lunch and Juice & Java popped into my head. Unfortunately I had to tell my brain "NO!" when the memories of something that happened on June 2, 2011 surfaced. Then I thought about why I did not warn others about my experience and hence the reason for why I am coming forward now. This review is not to bad mouth Juice & Java or to harm the establishment's reputation. It is merely a caution to visitors of the Boca Raton establishment in particular. Juice & Java has a great menu and I used to always get excited when I had not been there for a while. I even had a favorite meal which was the smoked salmon wrap and a #1 smoothie which I believe is pineapple, orange and banana. One day on June 2, 2011 I ordered my usual smoked salmon wrap and #1 smoothie for lunch. The time was approximately 2:45pm (a late lunch so I was hungry). That morning I had some fig newton's and coffee. Around 4:30pm I started to develop symptoms of headache, chills, sweating and thought I was coming down with a cold. Later that night my temperature rose to 102 and I have never felt my heart beat so fast in my life. I started to get scared and my girlfriend was worried too. It is important to mention I had no sinus symptoms at all and I thought that was strange. This was straight up fever like my body was fighting something foreign. I decided against going to the hospital and to try to sleep it off. That night was torture to the tenth power. Thinking back I must have been crazy. I could have died if the poisoning was strong enough. Around 12:00pm the following day the symptoms started to subside and I started to feel normal again. Realizing what had happened in the last 24 hours I knew I had been food poisoned. I am certain that the cause was the smoked salmon from Juice & Java. I went online and I filed an official complaint with the Florida Department of Health. They have a sub department called the Food and Waterborne Illness Program. I also emailed the franchise owner for Juice & Java Alex Sverdlov. Alex responded that there was nothing he could do and to contact the manager of the Boca Raton location. At the time I had felt that the complaint was enough closure because if anyone else were to come forward the Boca location would have bigger problems. So I did not contact the manager and put it to rest until now. Since I was poisoned I have stopped going to Juice & Java and warned all of my friends to eat at your own risk. It is sad that I cannot trust Juice & Java anymore because I really liked going there. You have to ask yourself if you were poisoned somewhere would you ever go back? If you have read this far then thank you. At least someone will know about my experience and make an informed decision from here. For the record this the first time in my life I have ever been food poisoned. I am 38 years old. Sorry to Juice and Java in Boca. You had it coming. I hope you improve your food handling guidelines. read more
