These wings are smoked and then fried before being tossed in the flavor of your choosing. They are huge and always perfected cooked. I absolutely love the atmosphere and old school feel of JDs. A small bar and massive dining hall with lots of fun art on the walls. The place always smells fantastic from the smoker too. Service is alway the best. All of the servers are super friendly and quick with taking orders and getting drinks. Aside from the wings we have tackled all the apps, sides, and some of the bbq. The half rack baby back ribs was fall off the bone delicious. I liked the sauce that came with it plus there were additional sauces on the table. The slaw was tasty and enough, normally other places give you a very small container. Nice!! I could not eat the spicy collards. Had nothing to do with the spices, but there was an odd taste to them. Liked the hush puppies and I suggest you ask for the butter. It has a hint of sweetness that was perfect and made the hush puppies better. The beef brisket was very good. There were two females there cleaning up and I asked what time they closed, she said 8:00. The three of us agreed that we should go somewhere else because they were ready to close and go home. They encouraged us to stay and said it would be fine if we wanted to dine in. But we felt bad and left and went to another place to eat. I placed a pickup order at 4:39 PM and made sure to let them know I'd arrive around 5:50 since they close at 6. I actually ended up getting there early at 4:45, but my order wasn't ready until 6:10--over an hour and a half after placing it and well past closing time. When I finally got home, I discovered the main part of our family meal--3 lbs of pulled pork--was missing. I called immediately, and the initial response was that they would "put a credit in the book," but since they were closed, nothing could be done until the next day. This was a meal meant to feed 12 people, so that wasn't acceptable. After pushing back, I was finally told I could come back and pick it up. When I arrived, instead of an apology, I was questioned about whether I checked the pint containers because the kitchen was "100% positive" the pork was in the order. I explained again that I went through every bag and container, yet I was met with more insistence that they were sure it had been packed. The apology I eventually received was half-hearted at best. Between the long wait, the missing main course, the inconvenience of driving back, and being made to feel like I was the one mistaken, this was extremely disappointing. Since I've been living in the area, I've been meaning to try the food here. The brisket was tender, fell apart nicely and was so good! Also, the queen (one of the managers I believe) who took my order was super nice, and the yap session we got to have made the wait for my food basically nonexistent. 10/10 would slay again read more

Ribs are unpredictable with quality but pricing is now unacceptable. $50 for takeout ordering 1/2 slab rib plate and brisket plate is just too much when there are other choices in the area. It's your typical barbecue fare: fried pickles, corn on the cob, macaroni and cheese, pulled pork, etc. Portion sizes are good. It's just a shade on the expensive side for a BBQ place; like many barbecue places, many of their items are a la carte. Depending on what you get, you'd looked at anywhere between $7 and $15 a head, not including your drink a tip. Service is okay. Not bad, but not great. Our server checked on us once the entire meal after bringing us our food. She was friendly enough, but didn't offer any to-go drinks or anything. The atmosphere is done up fairly nice, but the main dining room is big and open, and noise carries a long way. Before long, you'll probably find yourself talking fairly loud over the volume of other conversations. There is also an outdoor patio that's pretty nice. Used to be a fan but the food has been slowly going downhill for years and today was the tipping point for me and I think I'll not be going back for a good while. So what has gone wrong? In no particular order: the hush puppies are now so dry they are hard to eat; they've taken their formerly yummy brussels sprouts off the menu (along with some other customer favorites); and the service remains friendly but has notably slowed down. Consider yourself forewarned if you're on a tight schedule. Fortunately the portions remain quite generous and the meats are mostly on par with the past although a bit dryer. Non-trivial pet peeve for me: they are now charging extra for using a credit card. Hey, every business can make their own choices around how to treat their customers. But for me as a customer, I go elsewhere when there is an upcharge for using modern and more convenient forms of payment whether its for gas or food or whatever. There are plenty of other good BBQ places around, so this was the last straw for me. See ya JDs -- I hope that extra $2 on my bill was worth losing a customer over. read more

We had two bbq pork sandwiches, both had chunks of fat in them. The pork didn't have the smoke flavor and the portions were very small. When we pointed that out we were told we could either come back to get them or have a credit for next time. No apology or refund was offered. Friendly server greeted us. We placed an order on their website and it was ready on time and was warm. Some of the best smoked brisket and collard greens I have ever had. We've lived in Acworth for years and have never tried JD's. We were having bbq from another restaurant that was out of sides, so I decided to stop by JD's. This review isn't for their BBQ because we didn't try it. There's plenty of parking and the restaurant is an easy to find location off of Main St in Acworth. I placed my order online and it was coming out when I arrived. I ordered fried okra, baked beans, hush puppies, and fried corn. The beans and hush puppies were both good. The mac and cheese wasn't the best and we probably wouldn't order it again. We didn't eat the fried corn because it was truly a fried corn cob and it was fried pretty hard. BUT the fried okra is what will bring us back again and again. I'm a fried okra lover and my husband likes it too. I started eating it in the car and barely had any left when I got home. I didn't say anything to him, wanted to see what he thought of it. He tried all of the sides and immediately said "damn..this fried okra is so good!" We have now decided that we'll have to give JD's a try for their BBQ and to get more of the fried okra! read more
