Disclaimer: BBQ is my favorite and I may be harsher on those restaurants than others and it's hard to get 5 stars. J.D.'s is OK. I had the jumbo chopped pork sandwich and Brunswick stew. The sandwich was good,the stew was weird. It tasted strongly of onion. I really couldn't taste much else but there was something else strange in ther I couldn't place. It looked fine, didn't seem to have beans or potatoes (neither of which I like in my stew) just tasted strange. The pork was pretty good, chopped well and not too fatty greasy or too dry. There were three sauces on the table, sweet bbq, spicy bbq, and a hot sauce which looked homemade. Sweet was very sweet, spicy was also sweet , this was the one I used. I'm shocked, I went today with my family, we were like 24 people. I was treated very rude because of that but we were having fun and kept going, then I was trying to pick tables to put together but that lady told me not to do it, I requested to talk to the manager and the manager said that if we want to stay in the restaurant we must speak English. The food was about average, nothing that really "wowed" us. We both had the chopped pork, which was very tender but not a lot of flavor. The French fries seemed to be normal frozen grocery store fries. The sweet sauce was tasty, but no other sauce options were given to us. The baked beans were very good though, and tasted homemade. Tried J.D.'s at the dogwood festival in Atlanta GA. For a festival, the price was fair. The reason for the low rating is the service, and quality of the sides. The BBQ pork was slightly better than average, comparable to Sunny's bbq. The beans taste like they are straight from a can. The Mac and cheese was the biggest disappointment. It looked awesome but the noodles were almost too hard to chew. We ordered a combo (which included a bun, per their menu). They forgot to include it when we received our food. When we asked the staff about it and three members of staff came over to quickly tell us we were wrong, yet they were standing next to the sign which said it was included. The woman than rang us in was very condescending and kept making sarcastic remarks when I was having a conversation with my girlfriend. Overall, poor experience. I was excited to try JD's, but was not impressed by the food or service. The meats we ordered were okay, although the pulled pork was cold. Baked beans tasted fresh from a can, and Mac and cheese didn't have even a hint of cheese flavor. The two sauces they keep out on the table were not impressive either. Unfortunately, the waiter never returned to the table for us to be able to try the other sauces or get refills on drinks. I would be willing to try it again, but at this point it wouldn't be a place I would highly recommend. read more

We're from Chicago and spent my birthday weekend in Orlando. On our road trip home we were hungry and saw a pic of the smoked ribs here on Yelp & decided to try it. My boyfriend has a smoker and loves I mean LOVES bbq so he was over the moon about the smoker out back. He said the brisket was probably the best he's ever had. Our server was also very pleasant she gave us huge portions and even tho we got it to go she was sure to give us multiple cups of the different sauces which were all delicious. It's been a few years since I first ate a JD's in Acworth. This place is what you'd expect and hope for in southern BBQ. Comfort BBQ menu and quality recipes of traditional flavors with a solid flavorful seasoning that added a great taste to each item i ordered. I had the sliced Brisket plate with spicy collards and Brunswick stew. The Brisket was choice cut. Well "barked", plenty of marbling which was easily trimmed to desired taste and the deep meat was very tender and full of enjoyment. The collards were great! A nice deep steeped rich deep flavor with a perfect spicy kick. The Brunswick stew was also nicely flavored and I didn't feel the need to add and additional seasoning or hot sauce as I often do with Brunswick stew. Swear tea had a deep tea brew and while definitely sweet it wasn't overly so. Waitress was prompt, friendly and attentive which is a nice experience that's becoming har to find of late. (One note that I didn't hold against them but....... After a great meal I ordered Brownie sundae for desert. To say the brownie was scalding hot is an understatement. The kitchen must have microwaved it for 3 minutes. It was actually dangerously hot. I had to cool it for a long time and the ice cream was no match against it. Been here more than a dozen times for a couple years now. Each visit was exceptionally good food and great service. I'm leaving it 4 stars because of past visits but this evening was not real good. Pulled pork portion was 25% fat and burnt. Potato salad was made up of half-cooked potatoes and the beans had WAY too much garlic. Briskit was tasty and tender as always but folks, please.. J.D.'s was amazing. We were visiting in Georgia and decided to have lunch here and don't regret it at all. The ribs were absolutely perfect, fell right off the bone!! Chopped chicken was delicious and the Brisket has the perfect layer of char on the edges. Cole slaw and baked beans were good as expected. The Brunswick Stew had the oddest mix of flavors but I somehow couldn't get enough. I definitely suggest trying it, you won't get enough of it!! Overall the restaurant is a nice environment, staff is friendly, food is great, the plating makes for a nice "at home" feel, the price is worth it for the quality and quantity of food that you get. Drinks in big ol Mason Jars and their house sauces the best! Make sure to try the spicy BBQ sauce for an extra kick and don't forget to top off you meal with a nice sweet Banana Pudding!! Went with 2 other coworkers here for lunch last week. I ordered a fried chicken and bacon wrap with a pink lemonade. Our table also got fried pickles. I have never had fried pickles before, but was pretty happy with the overall flavor. Both the texture of being fried and the tanginess (is that the right word?) of the pickle turned out to be a nice combination. The pink lemonade is pretty standard as far as what I've tried at other places. Nevertheless, it met my expectations. The fried chicken and bacon wrap was filling for my purpose. The fried chicken and pbacon were pretty warm, so I expect that they were made fresh. I'm not sure if I really liked the comination of hot and cold ingredients, but it was enjoyable in the end. The wait for food was a little long. Not sure if they have a "busy hour," but it didn't seem like there was a lot of people at that time. My score is a 4/5 because, while the food was good, I feel like it wasn't as great as another BBQ place I visited last month. My wife and I have eaten a lot of barbecue but nothing like this. EVERYTHING is amazing: the ribs, the brisket, the slaw, the potato salad, the fried corn, the peach cobbler - not a disappointment in the bunch. If you are in the area and you need food JD's should be your first stop for sure. Forgot to mention that not more than 30 seconds after we sat down the manager was at our table asking if we'd been helped yet. Plus the place is in what appears to be a converted school house and is immaculate. If we could give JDs 10 stars we would. read more

Not the best BBQ I've had but not the worst either. The meat was the best part by far. My ribs were fall off the bone tender. The sides, however, were completely lack-luster. My fried corn still had pieces of corn silk all over it, the baked beans tasted like they'd come straight from the can and the onion rings looked and tasted like the frozen variety from the grocery store. The service was also sub-par. We did not see our waitress for a solid 20 minutes and they were not busy. Definitely not worth a return visit. read more

Very tasty and tender, quite delicious. Chopped pork was just perfect too, juicy and sweet. The sauce was excellent, I added a splash of the zesty sauce at the table for some extra kick, it was awesome. I had the fried okra as a side, brought back childhood memories of growing up in the south, soooo good! The peach cobbler for dessert was the perfect topper for a great meal, simply wonderful. This is my first visit here and I was seated immediately by a friendly and welcoming hostess who was also my waitress. I was served a beverage quickly and my order was taken as well. I went with a two meat combo with the sausage and turkey. Unfortunately the sausage was beyond DRY! It was crumbling apart as I cut into it. I actually cut through the paper just trying to finish the cutting. The turkey was okay at best. The sides were good (Mac n cheese and okra). Too bad about the dried sausage. read more

Family has meals here after Church every once in awhile, and we always enjoy the food. We frequently get the kids the BBQ dog kids plates, and my wife and i always get BBQ sandwich and fried pickles. We usually get good service, the food is great, and the price is affordable. We would enjoy the various appetizers more if they were made from scratch, but at least the clean fry oil makes them come out tasting good. Main room always feels empty and barren and it certainly is when it comes to employees Brunswick stew is by far the worst I've ever had, it is awful and it's a shame because I love Brunswick stew Stuffed potato was ok, but again dry, obviously old, obviously microwaved Sauces are mediocre fried corn needs butter Sweet tea needs more sugar and even with the huge glass would appreciate server refilling (they never have every, and I always drink it right away because I love sweet tea) Wings are ok, but often cold and are always reheated from previous day (or older) in my experience. Collards didn't have flavor Way too much mayo in Cole slaw Beer prices are a little high considering the atmosphere (or lack of) Have never seen a manager at all, much less come visit the table during the meal. This is a great place for a hommie feel to your bbq. From the multiple style of plates, to the repurpose items from the building to the interior decoration, JD' s has a home style feel. The appetizers could be better if made from scratch, but still had good flavor. The slow cooked brisket had a good bbq flavor without being overwhelmed by bbq sauce flavor. My husband and I had lunch here earlier. The food was great! The girl who took our drink order was fabulous. When she came to take our drink order she let us know that she was not our actual server, but was helping out by at least getting our drinks taken care of. My husband and I both agree that we wish she was our server the whole time. The girl who was our actual server was not personable at all and other than taking our food order, was not around at all. My husband ran out of tea. We sat there watching all of the other tables being asked how their meals were and being taken care of, but our server was pretty much no where. We had to ask the young lady who took our drink order for a couple of things and she always approached with a smile on her face even though she was busy with several tables. We ended up giving her a cash tip at the end due to the fact that she really did more than our actual server did. We will be back because we like the food, but hopefully we will not have the server we had today again in the future. read more

I really wanted to like JD's. I kept going back, hoping to spark some love. It just hasn't happened. Sigh. I am not going to slap JD's around like a misbehaving stepchild in a K-Mart. My experiences have not been truly "bad." However, they have not been very good either. They ranged from 2-Star ("Meh. I've experienced better") to 3 Star ("A-OK"). We'll average it out to 2.5+ (I guess this would be "Meh--OK"). Here are the pluses: The restaurant is very clean, bright, open, and airy. The servers have been very friendly and cheerful. The menu is complete; it has everything you would expect a good barbecue restaurant to offer. However, the chicken and pork are just "average." The sauces are a problem. JD's offers two: Sweet or Spicy. Neither is particularly noteworthy: I get better sauces from the grocery store. JD's does not offer a mustard sauce. That is a major minus. (Note: I asked for mustard sauce; my server brought me a small cup of yellow mustard. Sigh.) Most of the sides (cole slaw, french fries, garlic toast, etc.) have been average. There is one exception: the corn on the cob. It is fried, and is terrific. I may stop at JD's again. However, there are quite a few good restaurants in Acworth. Unless I am particularly hungry for barbecue, I will probably pass it up. read more
