I really wanted to like JD's. I kept going back, hoping to spark some love. It just hasn't happened. Sigh. I am not going to slap JD's around like a misbehaving stepchild in a K-Mart. My experiences have not been truly "bad." However, they have not been very good either. They ranged from 2-Star ("Meh. I've experienced better") to 3 Star ("A-OK"). We'll average it out to 2.5+ (I guess this would be "Meh--OK"). Here are the pluses: The restaurant is very clean, bright, open, and airy. The servers have been very friendly and cheerful. The menu is complete; it has everything you would expect a good barbecue restaurant to offer. However, the chicken and pork are just "average." The sauces are a problem. JD's offers two: Sweet or Spicy. Neither is particularly noteworthy: I get better sauces from the grocery store. JD's does not offer a mustard sauce. That is a major minus. (Note: I asked for mustard sauce; my server brought me a small cup of yellow mustard. Sigh.) Most of the sides (cole slaw, french fries, garlic toast, etc.) have been average. There is one exception: the corn on the cob. It is fried, and is terrific. I may stop at JD's again. However, there are quite a few good restaurants in Acworth. Unless I am particularly hungry for barbecue, I will probably pass it up. read more

Alright, JD. I've given you many opportunities and countless visits and the last 2 visits have been awful. Cold pulled pork, watery baked beans, hard French fries and oddly moist Texas toast. It's odd for a BBQ place to have, of all things, awesome cole slaw and that's the only reason why I gave 2 stars. The restaurant desperately needs rugs, drapes or stuff on the walls to help with the noisy dining room. I don't need to hear the conversation from the table across the room. I like that they renovated an old church building but the creaky floor and odd cold spots is more like a haunted house. Been here a couple times, food has always been great. Love the ribs and potato salad. This visit, not so awesome. The baked beans had a TON of garlic in it. It was almost unbearable. I had been craving banana pudding and I was excited to see they had it on the menu @ $4. This is a very casual unpretentious little place...a totally Southern atmosphere. The food is amazing and you get A LOT for your money! Everything was "Fall of the bone" tender. Moist and succulent is the best way to describe it. I give it 5 stars not only for the food but for the serving staff as well. Our server was Rachel and she just went above and beyond her duties. The onion rings we ordered had an "off" taste and we asked her to taste them (which she did) and when I asked her if this was their normal taste, I promptly received a "No Ma'am" she then proceeded to take it back and had the chef taste them and we were given a new plate right away. We came here one rainy summer day to try out the BBQ. It was my hubby's second time here and my first. I was surprised to see for a "southern BBQ" place they serve quesadillas but not cornbread or hush puppies. You got your choice of white bread or garlic bread with your meal. No collard greens or baked macaroni in sight. I knew I came to the wrong place. Then they brought out the baby back ribs for our meal. Naturally they were fatty but they were also salty too. I had heartburn for a few hours after this. The sweet sauce was great and so was Lindsay, our fantastic server who is probably underpaid and should get an "employee recognition " award for her exceptional service. If they ever switch up their menu to a more authentic "southern style " then I'll come back and recommend this place. read more

I like how open the actual restaurant is. There is also outdoor seating. He food was ok, not the best bbq, not the worse. I would go back if I was in the area again. I am a little biased as I have had some of the best bbq in the US (like Pappy's in Saint Louis and many others). Amazing southern food. My favorite was the Beef brisket and spicy green collards. The beef was so tender and perfectly flavored. The spicy greens were very tasty and the right level of spice, not too hot. We also had Baby back ribs, wich were a bit hard. I felt like I was working out with the extra chewing but the right flavor was there. I tried the pulled pork but it tasted a bit flavorless. The chilli fries and the onion rings were so good! For desert, I had to try everything! The peach cobbler tasted fresh and the chocolate fudge sunday was to die for. I was very impressed that the banana pudding was over the top because it was not overly too sweet as the other two deserts. When I come back I'll be having the banana pudding. Overall, the people here are very friendly and attentive. They get your food fast or whatever you ask them. Very good service. One small thing I loved so much was the fact that the plates didn't match and somehow it felt like home. The whole place is very nice and home like. STILL SCRATCHING MY HEAD! Tried J.D.'s for the first time today at the Pigs and Peaches Festival. We tried the sampler of beef, chicken and pork along with an order of ribs, coleslaw, and beans. A red sauce accompanied the order but it did not have a barbeque flavor and was just sweet and puzzling. It reminded me of a blend of tomato sauce with sugar and a dash of hot sauce. There was no depth of flavor or richness that defines barbeque sauce and was clearly an after-thought. The sampler was nice, just the right amount of smoke without being overwhelming. All of the meats were perfectly seasoned and had a nice flavor. The sampler came with a bun, but it wasn't quality and there were no condiments or toppings to fully dress a sandwich so I gave the bun to my husband. The rib plate was interesting. The ribs were nicely smoked but un-sauced and not as tender as I am accustomed to eating. I am accustomed to home-cooked ribs with a generous amount of sauce baked on and the meat falling apart. These were okay, but just different. I prefer a rib that actually has barbeque sauce on it, otherwise it is just a plain smoked rib and that's kind of boring. A dinner roll would have been a nice addition. The sides are what I refer to as "throw aways" because I never order them and just prefer to add my own. The cole slaw only consisted of cabbage and was a bit bland because it was missing the acid. I need my twang. The beans tasted like pork and beans with sugar added. They were just weird and definitely not what I consider "baked beans". This may be traditional Georgia barbeque, I wouldn't know. I just know that this is not quite what I consider barbeque. This place is literally across the street... ish. I was naturally excited. I have always ordered to go. My mum and I ordered bbq salads and my dad ordered a chicken meal and a spud. I get home, no dressings, no spud and no extra bbq sauce and no garlic bread, just a slice of bread. I call and tell them. Oh ya... we ran out of spuds, sorry, come back and we will refund you. I was not offered anything just my money back. For the spud. Each time I go in, someone new is being trained. Never the same people. I gave them 3 chances and nothing is ever right, and the last one was the worse. My mum and I both got sick from the bbq salads it didn't taste right so we didn't even eat half of it. Cool building, pretty menu...save your money and your time...this establishment does not take food allergies seriously! They do not have half of the meat on their menu... when I am taking into consideration food allergies, I know what I can and cannot have and I try not to bring any attention...very unprofessional service and the food is overcooked and the presentation is extremely undesirable...really I urge you to pass on this place... they do not put the quest first...they just want to come to your table and complain about how bad they have it because of CV-19...again save yourself from disappointment there are many businesses getting it right 360 degrees/full circle in spite of CV-19...so the 2 stars is for the cool building and the pretty menus that nowhere mirrors the poor food and service! read more

We came here for lunch it's a cute place however there food is very salty the bead brisket was terrible I wouldn't recommend it at all, I also had the chopped chicken it was better the bque sauce was okay! My friend got to the baby back ribs they where much better. There service is very slow so go when you have lots of time to kill! My husband and I were really excited to get a new BBQ place in town! We visited the first week that they opened and they were definitely still getting some kinks worked out, which is expected for any new business. We have since been back several times and had really great experiences every time. The food is very good, and the servers are really friendly. I usually get the ribs which are delicious! My favorite side is the fried corn on the cob.. which is different than you may think. It doesn't have breading like other fried foods. I am not sure how they make it but it is awesome! Second visit in the past week. Brought the family this time. Smoked chicken and Pulled pork were very good . Brisket was awesome. Absolutely THE BEST BBQ experience in Atlanta! Everything was perfect! Location is convenient and cute; interior is so unique and so quaint with some beautiful antiques, tin ceilings, and old wood floors! Super clean too! Wait staff was adorable. Everyone was very prompt, super southern, and nice as could be! Now onto the food. Portions are rather large given the reasonable prices! It's always nice to look at your check and say "that's all I owe?". Everything I tried was some of the best I've ever had. Coleslaw, chili, hot dogs, spuds, chicken, French fries... nothing generic about this food! It was my first time to any of JD's locations, but my uncle had gone there YEARS ago... and the manager remembered him! She gave us a discount on our meal. We drive by this place often on our way to the lake with our boat. One afternoon we were starving and decided to stop in. It's a really cute little place (park in the lower lot if you have a boat as the upper lot won't accomodate you). We stood at the hostess stand for quite some time before anyone acknowledged us. I finally walked to the bar right inside the front door and asked if someone could seat us. Despite there being several wait staff walking around and the place not being too terribly full, it looked like one waitress was doing the brunt of the work. She was excellent though and very friendly. The food was good for the price. I actually really liked the smoked wings, they were dry, but I like my wings not slimy and had a different flavor. The fried corn on the cob is something really special. I had no issue with the portions, quality of food or the price at all. I thought we definitely got what we paid for. However, I think the restaurant as a whole could do a better job with service. While our waitress was wonderful, she seemed to be the only staff member we encountered that really cared about her job. read more

First time diner last night with my wife. Quite convenient to our hotel. I got a combo of the baby back ribs and smoked turkey. Both were quite good. Mac n cheese was swimming in butter, but this is the South after all. Brunswick stew was a bit tomatoey for my taste, but not bad. For me, their sweet sauce is too sweet, and their spicy sauce is more peppery than spicy. Mix the two together, however, and it was very good on those ribs.
