The biergarten has ample canopy seating with long benches and tabletops, perfect for groups! You can't make reservations. They have a strict policy of no outside food or drinks. The ambiance is very casual and there's no table service. Rather than ordering through a QR code, place your order at the bar and then you'll get a text alert when the food is ready for pick-up at the long table closest to the bar. The line is always pretty short and you can get a drink within 5-10 min, the food takes longer and even up to 1/2 hour for fries. I would stick to the beer on draft, the cocktails can be hit/miss depending on the bartender, the draft drinks tend to have better consistency. The Wildberry Mule cocktail and Pina Colada Sangria and Peach Seltzer on draft were my picks while the Bourbon Smash, Passionfruit Mojito, Pina Colada Mojito, and the Passionfruit Seltzer were misses. On the flip side, the bartenders poured a generous amount of Prosecco for Mimosas, much appreciated! The bottled Angry Orchard apple cider is generally my go-to. There's always a mocktail on the menu (came in handy when I was pregnant!) The new battered fries are so much better than last year! The menu is limited with simple bar food (bbq pulled pork sandwich, burger, grilled cheese, hot dog, fries, kettle chips). Wish there were more vegetarian options like charcuterie board, hummus and crackers, nachos, mac and cheese, etc. While I give credit for having a Veggie Burger on the menu, it's sad and disappointing. It has a very smoky meaty flavor (from the grill, not the patty) with lackluster toppings - the vegan cheese is disgusting. I would swap out the kettle chips and pay the upcharge for fries. The doughy pretzel sticks are quite salty and a step up from the movie theater. They are good for absorbing the alcohol! Despite these minor complaints, I love coming here with family and fries. So glad The Perch opened up, Starr Hill Biergarten is a great spot to kick back and relax with a beer or 2!

We visited on a weekend, so it was definitely busy and had a fun crowd. Parking was convenient as well, with access to the shared garage in the same building as Wegmans. As for the food, it was decent overall. My favorite item was the Chili Nachos, which came in a generous portion and were perfect for sharing. The chicken tenders were just okay. Unfortunately, the honey mustard was overly salty, which made it difficult to enjoy.

Asked another server if they have flights and they do not (unlike other breweries) but they allow 3 tastings per person at the bar (not at the table where we were). We had a caesar salad where the lettuce was soft and wet. It doesn't seem like they properly dried the washed lettuce, so I ended up with soggy rather than crispy bites. The pizza was like a dry focaccia with not enough overcooked toppings. The forager was probably the best one thanks to the truffle oil and had a proper cheesy crust. The other two pizzas we tried didn't have enough cheese to have a crispy crust, were too thick and dry, and weren't hot enough for the burrata to melt. It's not clear to me if these pizzas are par baked or just reheated but they were not good. Would not order again.

Next is Rohit Ray who assisted every step of the way helping me with my attendee numbers , the set up design and more. He was there throughout the whole party. Rohit's kindness and grace that is unwavering. Finally, our server Astrid. She oversaw my last shower in January and I know we were in good hands when I saw her last Saturday. she is truly A+. She made sure the event went smoothly. Was proactive in helping us get things organized, and when one of the guests reported she was a vegetarian she made changes so her tea party food was vegetarian. The entire celebration was impeccable. I had 26 people attend and one person shared they've experienced three high teas in London and the experience at this party was the best one yet. After the party ended, I received so many calls telling me how elegant the party was, how exceptional the service was. And how wonderful all the food was. I will give honorable mention to Smail and the director of valet who helped us bring up the party favors and flowers and more. my heart is full. On the positive, the Happy Hour is one of the best kept secret in McLean if not NOVA. During happy hour (at the bar only, 5-7pm), $6.50 for the best hamburger sliders I've ever had. Delicious bun -- kinda looks like Challah -- and thick juicy meat cooked medium. Finally, some sliders not cooked well done. They have four kinds: classic, filet (Mignon), au poivre and pork (pulled) and all come with fries or chips (your pick). All other appetizers are either 6.5 or 5.5, so plenty to choose from. I particularly love the giant plate of calamari and the quessadilla big enough for a meal on its own. I've never been disappointed by their bar food. For me, it's usually: sliders + fries + two beers + tip + full belly = $15. I'm there at least once or twice a week, given that I live just a couple minutes away. On the negative, well, it's in McLean. The bar has a crowd reminiscent of what you'll find at Cafe Milano in DC: the Happy Hour is insanely busy with 40-60yo men comparing umm watches, a few 40yo women on the prowl, and some very nice couples in the their 70s who are just long time residents and enjoy some good food. Service is hit or miss. Because of the crowd, you need to act like it otherwise you'll get no attention whatsoever. The atmosphere is nice with candlelit tables. People are chatting, laughing, and there are some very comfortable and isolated booths if you don't want to mingle at the bar or at the two communal tables. Finally, get there early. It's hard to find seats if you get there past 5:45 -- even on a random Wednesday evening -- so otherwise be ready to bump elbow with a 50yo who thinks he owns DC (this bar, obviously, included). This is by all means one of the best steak houses in the World! I've been loyal to J. for several years; I even had my wedding reception here! The food is out of the world. Being from Arizona I know a good steak and I know what real mesquite wood is and the combination of the two equal's one of the best experiences you will ever have. I know that being in the DC area everyone likes things cooked with hickory, but that's because mesquite is hard to get here and they just don't know, it's not their fault. On top of the best selections of steaks, from porterhouse's that serve 2 to their Kansas City Strip steak, they have chicken, ribs (the kind that fall off of the bone when they hit your mouth) and salmon and fresh fish also! Their bar is so beautiful, you will enjoy going into it and just looking around. The drinks are always good, with a nice healthy pour, all of the martini's are made in their indivual shaker and they leave it on the table so you can refill your drink, with every martini you get is really like almost 2 with the extra. I gust that most bartenders just toss that "extra" away... the juice for the drinks is hand squeezed even! Our service has always been impeccable. I try and ask for Juan (10 star service) He's been with the company for 20 years. This restaurant by the way is not a chain like Ruth's or Morton's there are 4 of them in the US. Last time I started with the Fried Calamari, which came out golden fried and not rubbery. I had the Bone-In Ribeye cooked medium well, with a side of Asparagus and Mashed Potatoes. J Gilbert's RUINED MOTHERS DAY.. We have been celebrating special occasions for over 15 years at this place. So we made a reservation for Mothers Day. We were running a few min late so we called and the hostess said don't worry we are behind on reservations so no problem. That should have been the first red flag. We arrived and checked in and were seated within 20 min. Not bad since we were a little late and they were packed. We ordered appetizers and the waiter encouraged us to place our orders sooner than later because it was taking about 30 min for the kitchen to prepare the meals. Salads and the appetizers came out in about 10 min so that was as expected Well 1.5 hours later and all of the tables abound us were sitting there on their phones with out food just as we were, I asked to speak to the manager. He said everything was going as planned but it was takin one hour and five min for food to come out of the kitchen. I explained that we had been waiting for more than 1.5 hours he said well it should be out soon. He didn't do anything to make things better other than apologize. Maybe bring another appetizer out or something to keep our attention. The wait staff eventually just stayed in the back so they didn't have to keep making excuses. It was now 10:00pm and we had been sitting there since 8:00 with no dinner, so we got up and left. Luckily McDonalds next door was open so we made the best of it and got ice cream. My wife and I celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary at J. Gilbert's, and it was nothing short of perfect. From the moment we were seated, we knew we were in for a special evening--but what truly made it unforgettable was our incredible server, Travis. Travis went above and beyond to make our night feel truly celebrated. His energy was warm and welcoming, and his attention to detail was impeccable. Not only did he guide us through the menu with thoughtful recommendations, but he also surprised us with a few personal touches that made us feel genuinely special. It's rare to find someone who provides service with both professionalism and heart, but Travis absolutely nailed it. The food, as always, was phenomenal. Our steaks were cooked to perfection--juicy, flavorful, and just the way we like them. The sides were rich and satisfying, and don't even get me started on the dessert (which Travis made sure was presented in a beautifully celebratory way!). I enjoy dining at J Gilbert's, as I have dined there plenty of times. I visited yesterday and I was so annoyed that I left before I even placed an order. I arrived a little late due to traffic. I attempted to call several times, but no answer. When I arrived, I was greeted by a hostess. She wasn't overly nice, but she was ok. I told her that I was late for my reservation and she told me no problem. She left to find us a table, or so I thought. When she came back, it appeared as though she was surprised to see me still. Maybe it's because others who had come in behind us had already been seated. I saw the hostess preparing a table through the tempered glass window and figured she was probably preparing it for us and I was correct. She came to get us afterwards and showed us to our table. Once we were seated, we noticed that the table was actually dirty. Really dirty! There were crumbs left on the table and the water glasses looked like someone had drank from them. I was livid. I wouldn't have had an issue with waiting, as I was late for my reservation. What I did have an issue with is others (without reservations) coming into the restaurant, being served before me, and being seated at a dirty table with dirty glasses. Last night, my husband and I had an amazing night. Our server, Travis, provided one of the most exceptional dining experiences and is why I'm writing this correspondence. From the moment he greeted our table, it was clear he truly cared about making our evening special. The attentiveness was remarkable. He anticipated our needs before we even had to ask, and our plates were cleared immediately from the appetizers to the main plates. As a long-time McLean resident, my wife and I are always interested in exploring local brunch spots. Last Sunday, we visited J. Gilbert's in McLean to sample the brunch fare and were pleasantly surprised by the wide range of food items--everything from omelets made to order, roast beef, copious amounts of bacon and sausages, carrot cake and waffles. We were also impressed by the variety of healthy fruit choices such as blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, melon, watermelon and sliced oranges and grapefruit. And a "shout-out" is due to our awesome server Nancy (last name might be Davis?) as she greeted us with a warm welcome and patiently explained the wide variety brunch offerings when we were first seated. Unbelievable! The bartender is catering ( like he's a king) to his AA Sponsor. I know this because they are talking about it and said Bartender is treating this guy like he has wings while ignoring me.Sponsor's food from brunch buffet is brought to him special order and they are talking about their issues. I'm there first but asked to give more space to AA King when he had space for two people! Meanwhile, I ask why I'm being treated in a different way and next thing I l know Bartender ( male) who is clearly in a relationship with this guy who is being treated like royalty asks manager to call police on me. I cannot say enough about this restaurant. My friend and I were driving from New Jersey yesterday. We're stuck in traffic for over an hour. We did not have a reservation the hostess Marsha was so accommodating seated us right away and Tsedania was our server. Although it was a late lunch, we had fish tacos with sweet potato fries. The food was delicious. The service was impeccable. Thank you, Tsedania for being so attentive. The atmosphere was amazing. Everyone had a smile, and was very professional. I've been in here a few times over the past few years, usually just for a drink with my wife at the bar. I came here earlier this month with my wife, my parents and my sister before a concert. Place was jam packed at the bar but we were able to get a table in the dining room even though we were just having a drink and some starters to share. We ordered a shrimp cocktail, the blue cheese chips and I believe they brought some bread and butter. Everything was amazing. The food was great, our server was attentive and got us our food and drinks quickly since we were on a time budget. This is a classy place with quality food and service. I had one of the best dining experiences here! The steak was cooked to absolute perfection--tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Again, great food and service. Prix fixe is a wonderful 3 course option to try several different items. Most of the time the servers will allow substitutes, just ask. The servers are very versatile. I love this place because you can go in in jeans and tshirt and get a burger and coke, or go in formal attire and get a porterhouse and caymus, and still get the same great service. Our sever tonight was Michelle and she was wonderful despite my grumpy father - in - law being rude with her throughout the entire time we were there. If you love meat and potatoes or seafood, give this place a try. You will love it. read more

The food here is consistently PERFECT! If you ask for their hamburger, it is the best in the world, and they will cook it EXACTLY to order - like if you say "Well done" they get more specific to determine if you actually want Well Done or Medium Well Plus, and then it comes out exactly that way...every time. The food is fresh, zesty, and melt in your mouth great. The wait staff is consistently friendly, courteous, and efficient. Awful dining experience last night! Had reservations for a special birthday celebration for 7 people. Awful service, place was packed, server was slammed. One of our orders was never put in, and very little offered to rectify the situation other than to actually put in the order and get food after everyone else was finished. Will never ever return. Too many tables for the server that he could not manage. Walked away with a very disappointed celebration. Could have gone anywhere and made the wrong choice!! Awful!! read more

The streak wedge salad is a great go to, though today I ventured deeper into the menu and got the steak and frites (sans frites and with asparagus). The steak was delicious... Came for a dinner date around 8pm one night. We had reservations but we still had to wait a half hour, with tables still open around all around the place. Everything seemed a bit overpriced- the steak was good, but I feel I could get the same quality for half as much. Ambiance is nice and relaxing, subtly romantic, clean and open... I eat at J. Gilberts at least once a week and I have only been disappointed one time. (The night before Thanksgiving) I think that the chefs were busy getting ready for the next day and slacked off on the Wednesday night dinner. They have great food and prices for happy hour and on Wednesday nights they have lobster for $9.99, Can't beat that! Besides the lobster, my favorites are shrimp durango and carpaccio. Right from the start, the hostess was very attentive to detail - she noticed our request for a brighter dining area near the window, and also acknowledged that we were celebrating my dad's birthday. We were seated in a spacious booth by the window, which was perfectly lit while still keeping the ambiance of a dim dining environment. The restaurant also offers complementary valet parking, which made arriving and leaving much more convenient on a rainy Saturday evening. (Alternatively, you can also self-park at the garage adjacent to the restaurant for a fee, or park at Tysons Galleria, walk through the Ritz-Carlton, and walk across the roundabout.) The restaurant was extremely busy for a Saturday night, and you could definitely tell the servers were constantly running around trying to keep up. Because of that, service was a bit slower at times, but the staff remained friendly, energetic, and attentive throughout the evening. We started with warm focaccia bread served with a side of olive oil/parmesan while waiting for our order to be taken. After kindly refilling our bread upon request, another server came by to take our order. We ordered the Tuna Crudo, Lobster Bisque, Shrimp Sauté, Wagyu Lasagna, 12oz Filet Mignon, 14 oz Prime New York Steak and Lobster Mac & Cheese. I thoroughly enjoyed the filet, which was tender, juicy and cooked to the perfect temperature; however, the tuna crudo appetizer was not as expected - it seemed more like a seared ahi tuna dish than an actual crudo. The shrimp in the Shrimp Sauté dish was very decently sized, although the linguine was overcooked for my liking. Also, my dad requested his New York Strip to be prepared medium-well, but it came out closer to medium-rare (though honestly,'it's much better for a steak to be undercooked than overcooked). The wagyu lasagna had an interesting presentation, but it could have benefited from a bit more seasoning, as the flavor came across somewhat mild. After dinner, our server surprised by dad with a complimentary dessert for his birthday, where he could choose any dessert on the menu. He chose the carrot cake, which was a bit too sweet for our liking, but it had real shredded carrot pieces throughout the cake, which was a nice touch. The staff also packed up all of our leftovers, and despite how busy the night was, our server never forgot we were celebrating. One of the sweetest details was that they even gave my dad a handwritten birthday card with "Happy Birthday" stamped on the envelope, which made the experience feel extra thoughtful and personal. Overall, this was a great first experience here for us. Despite the slower service due to how packed the restaurant was, the hospitality, atmosphere and quality of the food made for a memorable birthday dinner.
