I attended a recent wine dinner at J Gilbert's for Duckhorn wine and it was a wonderful experience. Each wine was perfectly paired- my favorite being the dessert pairing. The wine and food portions were nicely sized, and the chef and wine rep were friendly, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. We dined at J Gilbert's this week and were amazed with the fabulous full rack of ribs(the best anywhere), delicious home made mashed potatoes, a wonderful corn niblets w/bacon, and fabulous service. Seated by the ever accommodating ast mngr Justin, we ordered perfectly concocted drinks by the venerable bartender FARMUS. GM Matt made sure that everything was perfect. Food and service are always excellent. I love an authentic wedge salad and this is one of the few places that still offer them.

Service was very good and we enjoyed the prime rib and seafood mixed grill. The augratin potatoes were excellent and stood out but the other sides were good too. The food was impressively delicious! I was surprised at the flavors of the seared scallops and the accompanying thick bacon with maple glaze! The service from Travis was exemplary. He kept my tea and water glasses topped up repeatedly, and he took care of my 91 year old dad. The ambiance was mellow and low-volume, which gave us room to chat without yelling. My husband and I dined at J Gilbert's the Friday after Valentines in hopes that it wouldnt be too busy. Unfortunately other folks had the same idea and it was busy and understandably service was slow. We each ordered off the pre fix menu and both agreed that it was a lot of food. We went to J Gilbert's on a whim, it appeared to be super crowded, however we made reservations and got in within 30 minutes, The restaurant staff was very accommodating. Our waiter went above and beyond to make sure our experience was a positive one. Some of our entrees were very good like the pork chops & scallops were great, however the string beans could have been cooked a little longer, the calamari was overcooked. Some drinks had to be substituted but all and all our experience was positive. Great lighting and comfortable seating. read more

This was my first experience at J. Gilbert's and I was not impressed. The waiter was interesting, he definitely threw the experience off. It seemed he was tired and just trying to make it through the shift. He was not attentive to our table, we ordered 2 steaks and didn't receive steak knives until we had a few bites remaining. I saw several other tables receiving bread shortly after they were seated. Our table didn't receive any bread and we were not offered any. I ordered the crab soup, ribeye, and creme brûlée. I enjoyed the soup it was my favorite. I love a good ribeye and this steak was just average. I am definitely sticking to the ribeye at Mike's American Grill . The creme brûlée was really standard and just taken out of the fridge... basic. I pass this restaurant daily on my way to work and was excited about trying it out. On the whole, good value. Steaks are excellent, and they come with all the trimmings. However, service can be spotty. Sometimes it's very fast, other times it's excruciatingly slow. And if you come for Happy Hour, don't expect competent bartending. Sometimes it's excellent, sometimes you don't get what you ordered, or the drinks are not made properly. Sometimes servers are attentive, sometimes they disappear for extended periods. Management needs to get a handle on this. read more

I'm going to update my review. Having not been to JG in a while (after having been regulars), we decided to give it another shot, and it was great. Don't get me wrong, it's still not the place it was when Flemings bought it, and it's just not what it once was. However, the steaks are still fantastic, and Flemings seems to have righted the ship relative to service after a shaky start. I miss a lot about the old place, not least the extensive (and affordable) menu, but in this area, J. Gilbert's is still a fantastic choice, and our meal was excellent. read more

The best main dish was a 14 ounce lobster tail-- not on the regular menu--but grilled to perfection. The mixed seafood grill was also very good. I was so excited to go with my family for my birthday. I ordered a cocktail, then the waitress just stared at me without moving to the next person. I was like yeah? And she put her hand out for an ID. That rubbed me the wrong way. Use your words and kindly ask for an ID if necessary. Then my beverage when it came was like half filled. This is where things go wrong. We wait almost an hour for our food to come out. Our order was very basic and a party of 4. It was also a Wednesday night only, not a weekend. My food was also not good. It was like chewy. I got the mixed seafood platter. It also only came with one scallop when it says in the menu it comes with "scallops". That was disappointing as I was looking forward to those the most. You can see this in the attached picture. Lastly, dessert took another 30 minutes. We sat at our booth for a total of 2 hours and 20 minutes. It should not take that long. Not once did we hear sorry or anything. The waitress was just MIA while we waited for our food. Then she magically started to be attentive when the food finally came. Poor situation handling skills. She was clearly avoiding us since the food was taking so long. We never even had a manager come to our table. You would think the server would have involved the manager in this situation. I will not be back to celebrate my birthday or anything with the plenty other options that are available. read more

Finally decided to give this steakhouse a try, and we were not disappointed. The inside feels like a very typical steakhouse, with dark wood tones everywhere. Service was quite attentive and friendly. The bread with the herb whipped butter was actually a great start, and my partner and I split a wedge salad and a steak, both of which the restaurant split nicely into two different plates. The TLDR version is: Hugo is the best waiter I think I've ever had. He saved what could have been a 1/5 disaster on a double birthday dinner and made it a 5/5. The longer version is: my mother had a birthday over the weekend, and it was her boyfriend's birthday yesterday 10/22. So we decided to do the birthday dinner together at J. Gilbert's. Hugo waited on us and everything went fine. He has a great personality and a good sense of humor. My mother asked for a wine recommendation and his recommendation was spot on. The appetizers were great and come out quickly. The trouble began when it was time for the main course. 2 huge parties totaling about 90 people got seated around the same time we did. So the kitchen got very backed up and it took an extremely long time to get our main dishes. I'm pretty patient when it comes to this stuff - I worked in a restaurant kitchen in college and know what it's like. However, my mother's boyfriend, an older Italian gentleman, while normally quite cheerful, started getting extremely frustrated and agitated about the wait time. He complained about the wait time and it could have gotten very ugly. Hugo was extremely gracious, apologized for the wait (even though no fault of his own), and brought over his manager. The manager was nice and comped some of the meal, but my mother's boyfriend was still very agitated. Hugo found out my mother's boyfriend was Italian and it turns out Hugo can speak some Italian. He conversed with my mother's boyfriend in Italian, made some funny jokes, and got the mood lightened up a bit, and got the whole occasion back on a happy track. I don't think there's another waiter on Earth that could have done what Hugo did, given the circumstances. In the end, we had a great time, the food was great, even if we had to wait longer than normal, and on the way out, we laughed that this whole wait hiccup was a funny story we could tell in the future. She was attentive, kind, funny, and we really enjoyed our conversation with her. Our water cups were always filled, which is greatly appreciated. Everything we ordered was delicious! Complimentary bread is included, but you will have to ask for it. It came out warm and fresh out of the oven, with the most delicious butter on the side. Their Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes are a must try. The steaks, seafood, sides, and dessert were all well executed. Flavors and consistency are on point. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and incredibly flavorful. Dessert was perfect! B, who isn't a big fan of coconut really enjoyed their Seven Layer Coconut Cake. It was so natural tasting. The cake was soft and not overly sweet. The coconut flakes are the real deal and don't taste like the preserved stuff from a bag. The pineapple ice cream and passion fruit coulis on the side really brings this dessert together. The Chocolate Velvet Cake was also a hit. You can't go wrong with chocolate mousse, chocolate ganache, and raspberry ice cream. Yum! I am so glad we got a chance to visit. read more
