Salt and Pepper Fish Filet with fried rice lunch special
    Colin R.

I owe JL and updated review. It's been more than a decade ago and things have changed a lot including an updated menu and of course pricing. In spite of inflation, their prices are still very reasonable especially the lunch specials. Taste and quality have improved dramatically for a joint like this. Inside the dine in options are limited -- just a few small tables usually 1 or 2 people in a rush. Most of us take to go. Which is fine by me, cos it's good portions, the guy at the counter is super nice, and price and taste are good enough especially for lunch. Love it!

    2024/01/26 Seafood Chow Fun

I finished one project, had a half-hour to kill before my next project and I was hungry. I thought a quick fix at JL Kitchen would cure my hunger pangs. There was space in the parking lot. I was the only customer inside. When I stepped in, the gentleman asked if I was Anthony. I told him no, though now I wonder what Anthony had ordered (wink, wink!). I ordered Seafood Chow Fun to go, paid and was told that it would be a five-minute wait. I sat and worked on my phone until my order came out. I drove to a nearby park to eat. My bag contained my food, two napkins, a fork, soy sauce and some chili oil. I ate 1/2 the container and found two shrimp, two pieces of fish and three pieces of calamari. I'll finish the other half tomorrow. Overall, the food was hot and reasonably flavorful. I usually request a packet of hot mustard but forgot to do so. JL is decent for a quick meal from a local neighborhood Chinese restaurant. I would come back for another meal, but I would not bring my parents here for a more formal meal.

Shrimp fried rice w added chili oil

The chef that cooks the food has some fine wok cooking skills. I just wished they used fresher rice because the fried rice I ordered today had many chunks of old stale rice. I will give em another chance since the flavors were good.

    31. Kung Pao Prawn Lunch Special 8/10 would get fried rice next time instead

On the app when paying, there is a code at their front entrance wall, type it in and it'll be free. This place sits a party of 10 quite comfortably, so everyone can enjoy their seafood boils! Their recommendation sauce was their Louisiana (Mild); they said it's like a "hot Cheeto" level of spicy, but I went with their Garlic Butter (Mild) and it was DELICIOUS. A lot of flavor, not overly salty, and tasted best with their side of rice. I loved how they have COMBOS as well. One of their combo served 1lb of head-on shrimp, your choice of clam/mussel and 2 corn, potato's and sausage for a reasonable price! Their customer service here is really friendly, and your order is served by a robot. Once your item arrives, you grab it and click done! I'm really happy that I don't have to go all the way to San Jose for my seafood boil fix anymore! Boiling Crab was my go to, so if you like there I'm sure you'll like Bag O' Crab too. The only thing I would pass on is their fried chicken sandwich (too dry) and their sweet potato fries (overly coated with sugar).

There was about a 20-minute wait before we were seated. We ordered wings, fries, garlic noodles, and our seafood bags. Some of the food came after our seafood bags, which was frustrating. I ordered Combo 2 with snow crab and 3/4 lb of head-off shrimp, potatoes, and sausage. I specifically chose no-spicy seasoning, but my bag was still spicy. There also wasn't much sauce, and what was there was too thin. The other person who ordered a seafood bag agreed that the sauce wasn't thick enough. I was honestly very disappointed with my seafood bag. The potatoes were served whole in the bag, and I only ate maybe 2 or 3 pieces of sausage and I can tell the corn is frozen prior to cooking. It's very mushy. I spent around $65 total on the bag, fries, steamed rice, and can soda. And I honestly felt like it was a waste of money. For $65, I expected the food and overall experience to be much better. The wings, garlic noodles, and fries were good, so those were definitely the highlights. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not compare to my experience at the Berkeley location. Another downside is that the drinks are bottled or canned, so there are no refills. Service could have been better as well. And honestly, the first red flag was the bathroom. It was horrible and made a bad first impression before we were even seated. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this location. I expected much more, especially after having such a great experience at the Berkeley location.

We did get seated right away at a high top table, which we didn't mind too much but it was in an area a bit more secluded. We ordered an appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert and the bill did come out to be on par with a nicer restaurant. However, we didn't appreciate that the tip suggestions were based on the after tax total rather than the subtotal. * Focaccia - 3/5 as it was a bit dry and was plain even though the menu listed rosemary & herb. * Paradiso's Chicken Picatta with Linguini - 3.5/5 Pasta was a tad overcooked and kept breaking which made it hard to eat. Chicken was big and mostly juicy except for one thinner end that got a little dry. I did really like the lemony sauce. * Braised Short Ribs with Mash Potatoes - 4/5 Good portion short ribs, the sauce was great and meat was very tender. Only con was that some of the carrots were on the raw side. * Bananas Foster Bread Pudding with Vanilla Gelato 4/5 Good dessert, but pecans didn't taste candied and would have liked the bread pudding to be warmer than it was. We'd give it a 3.5 overall and would give it another try sometime. However for the price, we thought it fell a bit short of expectations.

I ordered the snow crab and shrimp with the Lemon Crab seasoning/sauce, and the flavor was a solid 10/10. The crab meat was incredibly easy to get out of the shell and tasted fresh and delicious. One thing to note is that the snow crab only comes in 1 lb portions, so there isn't an option to order a half pound. I also added corn, potatoes, and sausage, which paired perfectly with the seafood boil and soaked up all that amazing sauce. My order was ready in about 20 minutes, which was impressive considering how busy they were. The only downside was that they forgot to include the tools needed to crack the crab legs, which made eating them a little more challenging once I got home. Overall, I had a great birthday meal and would definitely come back. I'd give Lemon Crab an 8.8/10! Also for reference my order was $68
