    Concealed Combo 4
    Ryan B.

Memorial Day, 05/25/2026 With the wife wanting a seafood boil, we knew a reputable place to achieve this would be at a Bag O' Crab. What immediately stood out about this location is it's located in a convenient spot in San Leandro but parking is absolutely atrocious. We were fortunate to get the lone available parking space in the lot but it was definitely not without its flaws. We got seated quickly as the restaurant was at half capacity but noticed after sitting down we were directly under the speakers which were so loud we asked to be reseated to another spot in the restaurant. We were once again seated under a the speaker system near the front but it was significantly less loud in comparison to the right side of the restaurant. The service was alright. Our initial server a young woman with her hair down botched our order. We ordered Combo 4 with Dungeness Crab but instead were given Lobster. Additionally the wife ordered an Orange soda which but it never arrived. We were charged for it and notified a male server who was a million times more helpful and attentive who gave the option of being refunded for it or he could still give it to us. The wife opted to take the soda and he provided it with a plastic cup of ice which was appreciated. What we can say is that the male servers were much more active than our female server who chose to spend more time on her phone than actually working. There was another young woman working there as well who was very active and attentive to getting tasks done. The quality of food was also okay. It wasn't spectacular but was passable. Overall, the experience was simply a pass. We would much rather go to the Berkeley location or another one further out than what we received in San Leandro. The verdict: 3/5

Pretty solid seafood boil and so close to home! Parking is rough in the lot, so I suggest looking for metered parking around the area. There's a lot of double parking in the lot, so it seems easier to just avoid it. The weekend dinner waitlist was around 30 minutes, which was reasonable. We never had Louisiana style before, and were pleasantly surprised. I didn't care for their oysters - they were missing the brine. I LOVED their fries, though! I would love to come back!

This place is so good !!! I've been coming here for a couple of years now and it's very consistent ! Food is amazing and I love the oysters!!! We always get atomic and mild and it's perfect every time but I wish they give a little bit more sauce. Service is always a breeze and everyone is very helpful! Lots of tables but definitely gets a little busy during the weekends or holidays. Ambiance is casual but you can still get away with celebrations like birthdays or graduations. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a good seafood boil !

Friday night so it was a busy night, but didn't wait long to be seated which was great. The service was meh... it didn't seem like they care too much about being friendly, but instead care to just get you what you needed. Our server checked on us once during the entire dinner. The game was on so some of them were paying to that instead. As someone who worked in hospitality, and still works with clients directly, the standard wasn't met. No pic taken, but i ordered the combo 1 which has 1 lb shrimp, 1 lb clams, 2 corn, 2 potatoes, and 4 sausages, all for $36. That's actually a great price, however, the sauce is too chunky in my opinion, and that shrimp was overcooked... it was stiff to the bite. This was my second time here and i thought maybe I'll give it a try and my first time was just bad timing... it happened again.. but for the price, it's not bad.

Dined in for the first time last Sunday. Not a positive experience overall. We weren't acknowledged the whole 20 minutes we were waiting to be seated. Then as soon as our order was placed we never saw our server again. Asked for our check and wasn't given back my credit card when used to pay. Had to come back to retrieve it. Food was ok, couldn't enjoy the crab we ordered because we weren't given anything to open it with and couldn't get any service to request scissors or anything. Probably won't be coming back here. Almost nonexistent service for a place where food is a high price point. Noodles and fries came out room temp.

My partner and I are big crab fans and have tried a bunch of spots around the Bay. We moved to the East Bay about a year ago and finally decided to try Bag O' Crab since it's just down the street. We usually go to Lemon Crab in Hayward, so that's our baseline. We showed up around 6:30 PM and were told there would be a five to ten minute wait. No big deal. But while we were sitting there, we noticed four or five staff members just kind of standing around near the host stand. A couple of them even mumbled, "Are they waiting for a table?" as if they weren't sure. There were clearly open tables already set up with white paper, so it was weird that it took so long to get seated. Eventually, someone finally walked us over to a table that had been empty the whole time. Our server brought us water and said she would be back to take our order. Then we waited... and waited. We had to ask someone else to get her. She finally came by, but honestly, it felt like she really didn't want to be there. No smile, barely any energy, just kind of going through the motions. It set a weird tone for the meal. We ordered the Dungeness crab, which was $50, with the atomic sauce at medium heat. The sauce was garlicky and flavorful, but it was definitely spicier than expected and too much for my partner. Next time we would probably go with mild, if we decide to come here again. We also got the garlic noodles, which were decent but a little too salty. You could really taste the soy or oyster sauce, which kind of clashed with the bold crab sauce when eaten together. When they brought the crab, we had to ask for crackers since they didn't bring any. More waiting. Then later, we needed water refills and had to flag down our server again. The same thing was happening at other tables too. You could see people waving down staff. There were plenty of employees around, but most of them seemed more interested in talking to each other than checking on tables. Even if they were bussers, it would have made a difference if they helped with waters or just looked more aware. It felt like most of the staff were young and just saw this as a whatever kind of job. No one seemed invested in providing good service. I honestly wish the owner would watch the cameras and see how the place is being run. Too much standing around and not enough attention to customers. Even paying was a hassle. I walked to the register and the hostess was on the phone. She walked off to another counter with the call, leaving me standing there. Again waiting for a while. Luckily, one of the servers noticed I was there for a while and helped me out so I could just leave. Overall, this was a frustrating experience from start to finish. The food wasn't bad, but the service really killed it for us. Not sure we'll be back.

Wow so happy to know this restaurant is here in San Leandro. The location has plenty of parking 2 lots and street parking The restaurant is big with a big bar with lots of drink choices, the location also has the space for big big parties very open and clean. Staff was nice and welcoming The food was delicious, we ordered atomic snow, crab, and shrimp with potatoes and sausage and corn combo 2 super yummy We also ordered calamari with Cajun fries and cajun wings all delicious Over all 5 stars looking forward to our next time

This is my third time at Bag o' Crab, and while the food isn't exactly gourmet, it's tasty and reasonably priced. We ordered the Combo 1, which includes shrimp head on and mussels. I liked the shrimp, but the mussels were okay and I wouldn't order them again. I was a bit let down that the bag only had one sausage link cut into four pieces (the menu says it has four full sausage links), but overall, the bag's flavor and seasoning were good. The service was okay, nothing special. They checked on us once as soon as we got our food, and that was it. Overall, this place is a solid choice if you're in the mood for seafood boil.

Sorry, my pictures were after I already started eating. This is probably the best seafood boil I've been too! Highly recommend garlic noodles and calamari basket. I also got the fried fish plate and it was a good choice. The seafood boil flavor was great! Good amount of sauce and it was thick. I got medium spice and it was pretty spicy; I was surprised and would have gotten mild spice. The only negative thing I have to say is that my order of clams were disappointing. A lot of my clams were empty and could not be found in the sauce.

Updated review: the drinks never miss! We love sitting at the bar and being able to eat or watch any games. It's a vibe. I did enjoy our seafood boil but I did think the octopus was less tender than I imagined. It was too chewy and we barely finished it. Garlic fries were a hit.

1st time back since my last to go review. Came in on a Wednesday evening about 4pm for an early dinner, not that many customers and the service was really slow. Lemon Pepper Wings were good but a little over cooked. Baked Oysters with the Garlic Butter was okay good but for $6 you get 2 very small oyster, not worth it. Gumbo was lacking the Southern flavors. Shrimps with the Atomic Sauce had good flavor. The shrimps were a good size. Just know that, They have a very small parking lot which is shared with a couple of other restaurants, but there are street parking and another larger lot within walking distance.

I ordered everything for pick up and it was ready on time. The food was fresh and and so delicious the fries were a little over cooked but overall everything else was very tasty

Bag O' Crab Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Bag O' Crab

What's the best seasoning option here?

    Atomic

Do the garlic noodles, the sea food spaghetti, the Cajun fries or the lemon pepper fries have cheese on them?

    What's in 13 flavor sauce?

A traditional Chinese stir fry with onions, bell peppers, zucchini’s and 13 Asian seasonings very similar to a spicy hot pot taste. This is not a typical boil bag so we do not recommend this flavor if you’ve never tried a traditional Chinese stir…

Do you have fresh crawfish or frozen?

    Just frozen right now

    Do they do catering?

Yes, anything on the menu can be catered in trays. Please message or call for pricing for specific party sizes.

As a parent, I never knew how much I would appreciate a drive-thru at spots like Walgreens, Starbucks, and now, an actual restaurant! It's the little things sometimes that really help to take the heavy lift off, while giving back the flexibility and energy to the driver :) While I can't speak for the interior of the restaurant, we did roll through the drive-thru to test it out over the weekend while exploring Alameda and all of its charm. On a Saturday evening it seemed like they were pretty swamped, and no one was responding at the drive-thru window so we figured maybe it was closed. We pulled up and my husband got out of the car to confirm before we pulled away with a worker inside the restaurant and they apologized. Almost immediately someone came to the window and gave us printed menus because we had already passed the digital menu part of the drive-thru. We ordered hush puppies, a fried shrimp po' boy sandwich, mac n' cheese, and bread pudding. Oh wee, we had a feast when we arrived home and reheated everything! I think they may still be working out some kinks, but I'm open to trying the drive-thru again next time we're in town post brewery fun. A drive-thru in the East Bay for Cajun bites? Very cool! I've explored their menu before and wow, that bread pudding! Special. Would go back for that alone to try it hot from the oven!

I ordered to-go blackened fish platter with red beans and rice, and a chicken sandwich with fries. It took 30 min for the food to come out and when I opened the fish, it wasn't even slightly warm (mmm, room temperature fish!). What's more disappointing is that everything was severely overcooked and dry and nothing tasted remotely Cajun or appetizing. This place isn't exactly cheap, either. And all I can say about the ambience is it's got a cafeteria vibe. Anyway, I gave it two stars because the front people are at least friendly, but I in no way, shape or form recommend this restaurant.

The vibe is awesome, they have a great bar area with a couple of TVs playing sports, and the music was definitely bumping. The staff was incredibly nice and super attentive to our table the entire night. Food-wise, this spot doesn't miss a beat. One of the best surprises was that they offer fresh crawfish, which is pretty rare to find at most seafood boil places. Everything we ordered was packed with flavor, and the garlic fries were amazingly good. Honestly, this boil spot isn't lacking a single thing. Whatever they are doing, they need to keep it up! I was looking forward to trying Backyard Bayou, but unfortunately my experience never made it past…read morethe waiting area. My party arrived around 6:38 PM and added our name to the waitlist for dinner. While waiting, it became increasingly clear that more than half of the dining room had already finished their meals. Many tables appeared to be staying simply to watch the soccer match on the TVs. I completely understand wanting to enjoy the game, but at the same time there were 4-5 parties waiting for tables, with groups of various sizes. This raises an important question: at what point does management step in to balance hospitality with serving waiting guests? While no one should be rushed through their meal, when tables have clearly finished dining and a long wait is building, there should be some effort to manage table turnover during peak dinner hours. After waiting about 45 minutes with no indication that seating would happen anytime soon, we decided to leave and eat elsewhere. Ironically, we didn't receive the text that our table was ready until 8:07 PM--nearly an hour and a half after we first checked in. The food may be great, but based on this experience, the waitlist management left a lot to be desired. I hope Backyard Bayou reviews how they handle busy nights and finds a better balance between accommodating guests who want to linger and serving the many customers waiting to dine.
