Went there with a friend for dinner. Service was friendly and efficient. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and loved it. It was very flavorful, had just enough heat and large pieces of chicken. J. Liu is one of our go to places. They have a large menu with many options, however I get the same thing every time because I love it- the poke bowl! It's a generous serving of poke with all of the additions- avocado, seaweed salad, veggies, tuna, mango salsa all served with rice and wonton chips. Hubs usually gets the steak frites and they have a wonderful kids menu. Servers are generally nice and the owner is at the restaurant on a regular basis. They have some good happy hour deals. I come here for work lunches or family meals. Something for everyone! read more

I'm not sure why this place gets so much shade on Yelp. I've been here twice for their Wednesday happy hour (which runs until 9 PM), and both times I was pleasantly surprised by the food, service, and drinks. Their cocktails are generously discounted, along with a solid selection of appetizers. J Liu's features mid-century modern decor--classic, timeless, and elegant. While I can't speak to the entrees, the variety of appetizers, hearty portions, and great flavor definitely make J Liu's worth a stop. read more

I went to lunch with one friend, an older woman like myself, and the waitress kept us waiting--to order and to be served (two cold dishes)--while patrons arriving after us were served. We tried to catch her attention multiple times, and she ignored us. When we walked out, she did not apologize and blamed the kitchen. The elderly hostess was very awkward and rude. This is the 4th or 5th time she's been this way when I've been here. I've never had that thought about any hostess at a restaurant before either. Arrived at 4:30 after attending a funeral service. There were 6 of us and one couple arrived early and requested a table. The very pleasant young lady who greeted us suggested that we wait in the bar and take advantage of the happy hour prices. Since there were only two tables occupied in the main restaurant she would assign us a table and we could be seated when the others arrived. As we were ordering our drinks 3 other members of our party joined us and added their drinks to our order. Just after ordering the Manager, an older lady, advised us that since we had been assigned a table we could not take advantage of the happy hour prices!!!! As our drinks arrived the last member of our party arrived and within seconds the manager came over and told us rather rudely that we could not stand in the bar area. There were several vacant seats at the bar in the area where we were standing. Also all the tables appeared to be four tops. She proceeded to tell us to go to our table. At this point we should have left but we figured that finding a table for 6 on a Friday night would be difficult. The food was good as was our server JoJo. Came in from out of town to celebrate our daughter's 20th birthday with her twin brother . She is a Buckeye - wanted a place away from the bustle of OSU; this was a close drive. Came here for the Thanksgiving Day buffet. Huge regrets. We came here about 7 years ago and it was phenomenal. We had a positive experience so decided to come again. This was a huge regret we have in hindsight. Not only was the food disappointing, but the service was majorly lacking. It took almost 15 minutes to be greeted by our server. And another 5-10 minutes to be served ice water. We were at the restaurant for nearly 2.5 hours because of how slow our service was. A member of our party did voice our concerns before we left and they were told to call back tomorrow to discuss. The only good food was the prime rib, mashed potatoes, and salads. The turkey had a weird taste to it. The stuffing was sloppy and salty. The crab rangoons didn't have hardly any stuffing in them. The cranberry sauce was a cranberry jello consistency that melted on the plate and gave everything a jello taste. This dinner was just not worth the price. The food did not taste gourmet. The Asian options tasted like they were previously frozen entrees you can find in your local grocers frozen food section. The deserts were definitely frozen and thawed as well. I guess we were just expecting too much. Come to find out, we were charged a 20% gratuity for that bill. We are usually 20% tippers if not more, IF it is deserved. Our server got a $27 tip from just half our party and it was not deserved. It's frustrating because we work hard for our money, and our server was not attentive and did not meet our needs so there for we do not feel there should have been an automatic 20% gratuity added. This should be something that is made transparent at the time of booking. We will never consider coming back to J. Liu, and will never recommend them. read more

We have been to J. Liu's many times and we are always pleased. Regardless as to if it's for their happy hour (which is one of the best in the area), or for dinner, we have yet to have a bad experience or dinner. Their prices are more than reasonable, and one of the few restaurants not to mark-up their prices an insane amount. I just went to dinner with a friend last night and after tip, it was only $65. That included an appetizer, chicken sandwich, an Asian dish, and two, large cocktails. We have been going to J. Liu's for more than 9 years and we have enjoyed every visit and have been happy with the food. It's one of the better, established restaurants in the area, if you ask me. read more

This place has no idea what it wants to be. The menu is all over the place. If you're looking for authentic Asian food (which is what we were looking for) go somewhere else. The only redeeming quality about this place is the decor. Super cute vibes inside. We opted for the patio. We ordered the rangoons (which was made with puff pastry crust), the ginger salad with the crispy noodles on the side (which were stale), and a pad Thai (which came out with a hair in it), another was brought out and the runner said it was taken care of on the bill but apparently only on the remake (which is fine! The chili sauce with it was good but there was more red pepper and jalapeno than actual calamari. I had the house salad, which was probably the best part of the meal. So we went outside and looked on the Open Table reservations app. Turns out they were still taking reservations for 7 (5 minutes from the time we went in). Had a great experience at J Liu on a very busy sunny Friday evening. The service was really incredible-- every interaction from the woman who sat us (maybe an owner or manager? seemed like it.) all the way to receiving the check was top notch. Our server was Scott and he did an absolutely incredible job. We tried the tuna tower, dynamite shrimp, and chicken lettuce wraps. The tuna dish was very good. Fresh quality taste, the seaweed salad didn't taste too fishy like it usually does for me, and the avocado slices on top were succulent and perfectly ripe. The dish came with house made flour tortilla chips for piling the tuna and goodies onto. Spicy mayo sauce was served on top of the tower and also with the dynamite shrimp. The tempura batter on the shrimp was soft and fluffy, super delicious. The shrimp inside was cooked perfectly-- juicy and the perfect texture. We really enjoyed them. We also ordered wine and their "New Fashioned" to drink, and both were great. It would have been a 5 star experience if it weren't for the lettuce wraps. They were probably the worst ones I have ever had. The sauce and meat filling was nothing to really write home about, but the real problem was the fried vermicelli that came on top. It wasn't properly fried but you couldn't tell looking at it, so every bite I had tasted like it had uncooked pasta noodles in it. Crunchy and hard and really noooot appetizing at all. Otherwise 5 stars for J Liu. I'd surely go back but I would never order those lettuce wraps again. read more

We went here this past Friday to celebrate my daughter's white coat ceremony. We were seated in the bar area since that is the only place with TVs. We wanted to watch the penguins game. We started with the lettuce wraps and homemade chips. The wraps were a big portion for 4 ppl and very tasty. For dinner I had the filet mignon which was very tender. My son had the steak frites which was ver good. We also ordered the Asian noodles which was filled with vegetables. The bartender was wonderful and we would definitely return. Well worth the money. Tonight my husband was surprised by his fellow soldiers with a Retirement get together at J Lui's Worthington. Jeff served 33 years in the Army as a Jag and The State JAG A of Ohio retiring as a Colonel My husband gave a speech about one of his soldiers and presented him with an award for his service at which time we all clapped The. Dinner was served and when we were finished Jeff was getting ready to Thank everyone for this touching surprise and for traveling from a far such as Kentucky, Cleveland,Elyria, Huron, Lakewood, Avon and the Columbus area. He wanted to talk about his time in the service, his deployment, the friendships he made with everyone that came out.. our Son was also there to share this special moment. When the GM Rita Gonzalez approaches a fellow soldier who planned the get together and told him my husband could not give a speech he asked why and she stated it was not to happen it was interruptive to other patrons mind you there was two!! He then again said so he served his country and you are not allowing him to give a short speech to Thank his fellow soldiers? At this time I heard about this and approached her.. She was rude, cold could care less about The Military or the fact it was a surprise for my husband!! I'm beyond appalled by her reaction and condescending statements!! My first instinct was she has No Respect for the Military!! She could care less! And this is the person Mr. Jason Lui has running his business!
