Our server, Evangeline, was absolutely outstanding. She recommended dishes for us, and there was not a miss at the table. We started with the pie pumpkin appetizer - maple peppercorn prosciutto | parmigiano fonduta | fall fruit mostarda; it was truly exceptional - plenty of "fall" flavors, and entirely edible (the pie pumpkin was delicious!) My husband and I couldn't decide between all the appetizers, so ordered a smattering of those, instead of an entree: beets-n-ricotta; seared rare tuna; filet tartare and harvest mozzarella. Oh my goodness -- each one was better than the next, and all beautifully presented. Our friends each had the Cappelletti and said the pasta was perfectly cooked . . . all I know was they were scraping the plate for every last bit. My coworkers and I came here because they were very Vegan friendly and one of us is vegan. Unfortunately, we are a huge lunch and hadn't gotten hungry enough by our dinner reservation. So we decided to eat apps and just have a snack-y dinner. We got the Vegan Cheese platter, the summer salad, heirloom caprese, polenta "fries," and the crab and langoustine panzanella. Mixed reviews on the food. Favorites were the summer salad and caprese. The vegan cheese platter was fun with a lot of accoutrements but no crackers or bread which was weird. The polenta fries were well cooked but bland. There was some sort of sauce but it was also bland. With a better sauce, the polenta would have been higher on the list. The panzanella was worst dish. It was NOT a panzanella. No croutons. No tomatoes. No vegetables. It was a cold crab and langoustine salad on top of bread. We sent it back and they were very nice about it. But very disappointing. Lastly, for beverages, we tried a bunch of different options for their mocktail list. Very good! Overall, the service was great and the outdoor patio we sat in was beautiful and cozy. This was fun. Was seated in the cellar which looks like a cellar in a century house, because it is. Very cozy, though if all the tables were occupied, it would have been tight. Ordered the charcuterie board. No idea what I was eating, but it was all delicious! Daughter ordered the gnocchi and sausage which was very good. I had some gravy thing which was actually spaghetti and meatballs. The bolognese sauce was plentiful, and when hit with some salt and crushed red, became awesome. Pasta was great, meatball was okay. My sister and I chose ['plas] as the culmination of our Columbus Restaurant Week on Saturday evening due to their unique menu and strong vegan offerings alongside traditional omnivore fare, an uncommon pairing in the fine dining landscape. Our expectations were immediately exceeded by the first course - for me, an applewood-smoked beet carpaccio with an exquisite blend of full-bodied flavours (chipotle pepitas, tarragon crème) that was likely the culinary highlight of the whole night. The experience as a whole, however, was quickly superseded by ['plas]'s darling staff and ownership - when a small kitchen snafu threatened to derail our three-course evening, our server Ana dropped what she was in the midst of doing and immediately brought all hands on deck and involved Jackie, one of the passionate and knowledgeable owners, to make sure our night became even more magical than it had been. In contrast to other similar experiences I have had with being a vegan guest at locations where I'm not the restaurant's target audience, their response made me feel welcome, important, and at-ease about my meal. After some truly inspired desserts and one-of-a-kind cocktails, as well as a plant-based short rib that was nigh-indistinguishable from the real thing, we had an opportunity to share a heartfelt conversation with Jackie about the aesthetic and artistic inspirations for the cosy and romantic atmosphere, and left with full stomachs and even fuller hearts. This place... I can't say enough how special they made our groups evening. We brought our work team here, we had about 6-8 with us. Service... IMPECCABLE, Drinks... perfection... THE FOOD!!!!! Their chef makes their own cheeses and combines flavors in a wonderfully balanced way. Plas is a foodies dream! We tried a little bit of everything on the menu and we loved it all. I took out of town friends here for dinner on Nov 16. Friends were in town from Chicago, Atlanta and Cincinnati respectively. They were blown away and so impressed with plas. Plas exceeded my memory. We tried their summer menu They started us off with some fresh bread which was spectacular with the herb butter The second best would be the lobster salad which was fresh creamy and delicious The other two items from the select menu were just disappointing. The enchilada style stuffed with shrimp was just bland and lacked seasoning. It seemed like they had just fixed it in boil tomato sauce. The seafood boil on the other hand was just too salty. I ordered a few vegan options, including "vegan short ribs" which Lyric, our server recommended. If I didn't know they were vegan. I would've been hard pressed to say it didn't taste like meat. This was definitely a 5 star experience! What could of been a sad and somber occasion was truly turned into a beautiful celebration of life. I came to honor Karen M's life, a fellow Yelper who had become a friend. This truly was the perfect location to celebrate a life well lived. You instantly see why Karen enjoyed this place. The fact that the restaurant opened early for this special event shows a lot. The Chef, bartender, and servers were wonderful. They were all very attentive to guests. The thoughtfulness of the bartender creating a Karen cocktail was a beautiful touch. The group shot/toast was also very nice. The Chef's presentation of his charcuterie board was gorgeous! Not only gorgeous but deliciously paired meats, cheeses and spreads. I complimented him on the event and he humbly stated that the family was responsible for the majority of the special touches. I appreciated his honesty. Although I did not have the usual dining experience, the service and ambiance is enough to make me come back. It's got a modern and classy vibe, but not pretentious. The basement dining area is worth experiencing too, I imagine on a normal day it being dimly lit and romantic. For this visit, there was a beautiful slideshow presentation and photo albums in memory of Karen. One of the best, if not THE BEST meals I've had since moving to Columbus in 2014. The atmosphere and decor are balanced, striking the right tone of simple-sophisticated. Our waiter-server was extremely helpful and his suggestions were right on. He and the other staff conveyed that innate sense of timely service without hovering. We (just two of us) started with three appetizers--they were all unique and exquisite in flavor, texture, and color. I highly recommend the charcuterie board if you are even vaguely into that kind of thing. Then, we split a single order of Chilean Sea Bass, which the chef served on two plates without being asked--so no messy dividing. I was here for a private event on Sunday. They are normally closed on Sundays but they hosted a beautiful gathering with the chef and bartender serving wonderful food and drinks. This was a Celebration of Life for family and friends of our dear fellow Elite Yelper Karen M., who passed away recently. She will most definitely be missed by all who knew her. I like the bar and interior design, but our server seems like he doesn't really know the menu whenever we asked for recommendations. I got the gin cocktail and squid ink pasta. The drink tasted weird but it might just be me. Pasta is alright, nothing amazing but I enjoyed it. The main disappointment is the pork pasta, which was recommended as one of the most popular dishes by our waiter. Both my husband and girlfriend got it and both thought it was meh. The pork is not very different from a deep fried pork cutlet from a Japanese ramen joint. And the pasta... while they did remind you it is cold on the menu, it has little to none flavor - just a bland pesto/olive oil mixture. Definitely disappointing considering the price point. Dessert was the only highlight of the night. The s'mores cheesecake is delicious and well presented. Anyways, good to try a new place but unlikely to come back. read more

My family and I came here recently to celebrate not only a birthday but a promotion too. Every step of the way the experience was incredible. We were all impressed and let me tell you why. While we didn't have a reservation, we were able to get seated right away. We had the option of the first floor dining area, bar, or downstairs in their old, but recently renovated vault space. We went with the vault space because duh, how cool is that?! The owner led the way and once we were seated our server was at the table in an instant. I think his name was Phillip. I remember asking but don't remember what it was. Oops! Anyhoo, he was splendid. While it took us forever to decide on what to eat, ordering a bottle of wine was a must. That came out in a jiffy and was honestly why picking out food was so hard. We got lost in conversation, good wine, and the excellent ambiance immediately. Their winter menu had recently come out and it had some rather interesting entrees to choose from. We started with a savory creme brulee appetizer, which was weird and heavy, but tasty. We also had the focaccia with pickled veggies and other items to spread on it. That was also good. As for entrees both my dad and sister ordered steaks and both expressed how delicious it was. I stuck with seafood and ordered a shrimp and lobster carbonara with a lobster cream sauce, squid ink pasta, and a bruleed egg on top. Holy crap this was good. I only wish the pasta portion was smaller. The dish was really rich and the noodles took over the show when I felt it was a true combined effort. Each ingredient was amazing. We ended with dessert and of course a candle on top of the pistachio cheesecake I got to celebrate my birthday. So yummy! I give this place five out of five stars because it was exactly that. It is extremely chilly down there compared to the upstairs level. They also have outdoor seating for those warm days. We ordered a charcuterie board, French toast, mussels, a bottle of wine, and a pasta dish I can't remember! While we waited they brought us complimentary bread with this amazing butter and fresh tomatoes. I mean I could eat just this! We asked for more bread to finish off the butter. The food came in a timely manner and was delicious. The problem we came across was there was no crostini for the charcuterie board even though it's listed with the dish on the menu. The waiter took a while to check in with us and so it took a while to ask for the crostini. Two of us were almost done with our meals and my friend still had not received her crostini. I mean it's a charcuterie board...she had nothing else to tie the cheeses and meats together. The service was really slow. It took us forever to even get our checks, and my friend STILL had not received her crostinis. She was over it at that point and they said they could put it in a to go container. We had waited so long we just wanted to leave. She went and talked to a manager about it and he brushed it off and didn't even care about her dining experience. We ended up sitting near by the chef's kitchen, which is basically out in the open. He was a bit noisy banging around. But he had a great sense of humor and enjoyed the experience. 'Plas is located on Fifth Street near High where the Table used to be. The decor is warm, inviting, and filled with gorgeous lighting fixtures. Lots of cool and rustic artwork too. We were there for a party for my sister in law's bday. The staff was excellent as well as were great with assisting with the surprise. While the atmosphere and staff were great the food was the real star of the show. We started with the goat herb cheesecake and the house made Burrata. I don't even like goat cheese and absolutely loved how flavorful the goat herb cheesecake was. It is served with poached beets and roasted pear. The combination is genius! My husband ordered the pumpkin and squash ravioli which was bomb! I got the Every Day gravy and was super impressed. There are multiple types of meat, veggies, and a huge meatball with cheese topped on a bed of herb linguine. It's super hearty and has a nice amount of spice to it. Our friends loved their food as well. We were also lucky to get a free dessert by checking into Yelp. We got the peanut butter and chocolate mousse which comes with a huge cookie. You get exceptional quality, innovative cuisine, one of the best ambiences you can find in the 614, and one of the best chefs and service departments in Ohio for beyond fair prices. The menus change with the seasons and Chef Jamie George is a master of his craft and ultra tedious with the details. Jackie and Eric - the co-proprietors - are beyond hospitable, highly knowledgable of both the menu ingredients and corresponding drinks, and provide an at-home feel for all guests. I want to start off by saying that I do recommend Plas. With a few details that didn't work for me for personal reasons. The service was excellent, the ambiance was great and the cocktails were great. Parking was an issue, Plas is located on a busy street so finding parking is a but complicated, I had to park a couple blocks away on a Saturday. Nothing crazy but I did have to pay as well. Not the establishment is great but I just wasn't a fan of the food. I had a summer salad and it had no flavor and I also had a burrata appetizer with no flavor. At all. For this reason I didn't feel the urge to order an actual entree. Cocktails were great, and service was wonderful. I just can't recommend the food. read more

New restaurant in the Fifth and High area; across from Middle West Spirits. It was a lonely Tuesday night so it was not crowded. They have three sitting areas. Upstairs (it's very loud), lower level, and patio. It was hot and humid so we opted for the lower level with two other couples. It was a great idea, the lower level is very quaint and not noisy at all. The menu is limited and pretty pork centric. The chef has a variety of DNA in his cooking but clearly Italian. The pasta with gravy and meatballs was outstanding. They make their own charcuterie as well. We didn't order a cocktail but the menu looked great. We were well served by our server Lyric. If they keep things going, they have a great chance of catching on in the competitive Short North food scene. We'll be back to check out more things on the menu. read more
