I've been to Hubbard Grille a few times now and it's easily one of my go-to spots in the Short North, especially for happy hour. Their happy hour is so good. You can get apps, flatbreads and drinks all around that $5-$6 range, which honestly feels rare for how nice the space is. It's the perfect place to go with a group because you can order a bunch of things and try everything without spending a ton. The parmesan truffle fries are my favorite every single time. I always end up ordering them no matter what else I get. Also have to mention their patio because it's such a good vibe when it's warm out. I got the short rib hash, and it was a hefty portion, but delicious my only complaint is that the photo showed a fried egg and I was given scrambled. No one asked how I would like the egg cooked so I just assumed it would come out with a fried egg so maybe that was my mistake but just make sure you ask for what type of egg you would like on it. My sister got the harvest salad with chicken and a side of sweet potato fries healthy and yummy but said that it was mostly kale and could use a little bit more veggies and nuts on the top but the dressing is really nice. Hubbard grille was recommended by a friend when I was visiting Columbus for a conference. Lively crowd on a Wednesday evening! Shared the calamari and brussel sprouts for appetizers. Both were standard, the sprouts did have a nice crunch which I appreciated. I had the porkchop for dinner. Personally I felt it was a bit overcooked and a little tough. Went for lunch on a Saturday. We were the only table with a couple people at the bar. We ordered the $10 jalapeño cornbread. It was cold, which I don't believe it should have been. It was 2 super small pieces of bread. Flavor was good but definitely a terrible value for the amount. I ordered the classic burger with bacon and fries. It was good. My gf got a flatbread and Brussel sprouts. The sprouts were good but the pizza lacked much flavor. The service was slow and for the $$, I'd probably go someplace else. Very friendly service, waiter and hostess were very cordial. It's preferred to have a reservation when it is busy but we were seated immediately regardless. Went in a Saturday afternoon around 5:30pm so it was busy but that did not affect the service! Seating was a bit cramped, but the environment is very enjoyable/upscale bar feeling. Waiter was very tentative to our table, appetizer was out within 10 mins of ordering as were the entrees. Hubbard Grille is very okay. We stopped by on a Thursday night for their slider special. It's kinda confusing because they only have fried chicken slides on their normal menu. The special is $10 for two sliders and fries. You're supposed to pick from fried chicken, beef, or veggie. When we asked, we were told it's cheeseburgers, chicken, or veggie. We did one order of chicken, the other of cheese burgers, and then one app of brussel sprouts since it was HH and they were $5. The brussel sprouts were pretty bland. The glaze/sauce sunk to the bottom of the bowl. When the sliders came out, they were kinda sad. The cheeseburger was just a normal patty, cut in to four. Pretty small. The chicken was a small chicken tender. The chicken was dry. So with the bun and meat, we were needing to take sips of water in between. The fries were good! They came with two each. I know they're only $10, but it just wasn't very good. I would rather go get a chicken sandwich for $6 across the street during HH at the Eagle. We sat at the bar and at times had difficulty getting our waitresses attention. All the servers were chatting in the corner most of the time. She also was not very friendly. Overall I don't think I would be back, or for happy hour at least. They have a beautiful patio so I could see myself coming here with friends to enjoy that. read more

I literally had to try to get the bartender's attention for everything: my first glass of wine; to order my dinner; to try and get a second glass of wine; to get a box so I could finally leave. She spent all of her time talking with her coworkers, on her phone and eventually chatting up a couple of guests who came in a full hour after me. Absolutely delicious, and I almost feel bad that they lost money on me. Almost... Came in on a Tuesday for dinner and sat at the bar. Bartender said the fried chicken was sooooo good, so I had to try it. It was absolutely delicious! Breading was flavorful, chicken was moist. Brussels were devine and although I don't know a grit from a writ, these were good. Washed everything down with a local IPA. I stopped by on a weekend in Columbus and ended up having one of the best nights out I've had in a while. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the food was great, and the drinks were next level. The blonde bartender (didn't catch her name, but she deserves a raise!) was incredibly friendly and knew exactly what she was doing -- she mixed up a custom cocktail for me, which she called her Mini Special, that was honestly better than anything on the menu! Reservations recommended as this isn't the largest of restaurants. They have some dining tables and an updstairs area. There is also a bar. Once it gets crowded it gets loud in there. Our service was very slow. Thank goodness we gave ourselves plenty of time because we were in there for about 2 hours from slow service. The waitress gave us the wrong bill and we had to wait a bit to track her down to get it fixed. She was very apologetic and got us squared away. He had the brussels sprouts and pepperoni flatbread (which looked anemic to me) I had asparagus, mac & cheese, and sweet potato fries. My husband got a burger which was ok in flavor but mostly cheese. I ordered the hanger steak meal and two lavender gaze alcoholic beverages. First off, all portions were lunch size for dinner pricing. The steak was so gross. It was tough with no flavor. It really didn't taste like steak at all Hanger steak is a cheaper cut than sirloin and after some research it's like the cheapest cut of steak you can buy. Based on the pricing and the look of the restaurant, I never imagined this would be on the menu. I ordered med well but received medium rare. Mashed potatoes and Brussels were good but not very flavorful. Drinks were not impressive either. Service was slow. We were there for over an hour and a half when it was not busy. I had such high hopes for this restaurant after a long busy workday. Not sure if it was just an off night for the cooks/wait staff. Either way we won't be coming back. If you visit this place I hope you have a better experience. Oh and it's super weird that all of the hosts are blonde. We couldn't help but notice the hiring manager must have a specific type they like. Just didn't seem very inclusive. (Note: I forgot to specify, but my previous picture of the pasta rosa is only a 1/3 portion; the server kindly had the kitchen plate the dish in portions since she knew we were sharing. Thanks Robin!) The pasta rosa was once again amazing, and the goat cheese ravioli was just as great if not better. It was savory, sweet, tangy, and just perfect. We also ordered Protea white wine, which was also delicious and a perfect complement to the food. Additionally, the women's restroom is so clean and has a basket of free menstrual products, which I think says a lot about the restaurant and their care for the customer. We came to Hubbard for the first time for Happy Hour! Our server was extremely friendly and made sure we ordered from the happy hour menu before happy hour ended, which was very nice! We tried a few of the drinks including the Agave Cooler as well as a few bottles of wine. We also tried some appetizers on the happy hour menu including the parmesan truffle fries, sweet potato fries, jalapeno corn bread, and the margherita flatbread. Everything was yummy, but the size of the flatbreads was a bit dissapointing, especially since they advertise flatbreads and not 1/2 a flatbread, which is what it actually is. Other than that, we were all very pleased. A few people also ordered off the dinner menu and got the shiitake mushroom sandwich and the salmon blt. They both really enjoyed their entrees! It has been years since I've been to the Hubbard Grille. My friends and I were in the Short North on Friday evening late and we were happy to get a seat here. Our waiter was great, but very busy with lots of tables having recently been sat. We started with Brussels sprouts, because that's what I remember as being their big hit, and they were good, but with lots of sauce, maybe a bit too much. There aren't tons of GF veggie options, so I got a veggie burger wrapped in lettuce, and it was pretty good. My friends liked the chicken sliders and ravioli. Overall it was a good time, and the food was pretty good too, I'm glad to see it hasn't changed much over the years and the quality has held up. read more

Okay, so Hubbard has existed for a long time. I've been here through variations of their menu of the years. I've been to events, dates, bachelor dinners, and birthday dinners here. First and foremost, their service has been good. Maybe once I had a bad experience years ago, just enough that I can barely recall it. Most recently sat at the bar, post-covid, still with the barriers, and the two bartenders working were on point. Fast, attentive, and - lets be clear - they were getting busy and they were able to be fast, friendly, chatty and WELCOMING. It was great to have a drink and relax while I waited for my date. I ordered the Brussels sprouts, expecting a few minutes of delivery. They were out FAST. The red wine cooked with it - it looked like it would have a stronger flavor, but it was absolutely delicious. The problem was the entrees. Fried chicken and pork chops. The dishes were just inconsistent in their seasoning, with each bite either being overpowering (the kale was either mild or spicy, the grits, bland or cheesy) or just lacking in flavor. All in all, for the price and expectations of Hubbard, it is a miss. Did I choice the wrong entrees? Perhaps. But it's hard to say I should come back more often when the entrees are such a miss! We stopped by for happy hour and found ourselves very underwhelmed with Hubbard Grille. We snagged two seats at the bar, and were not even acknowledged by anyone for about 5 minutes. When we placed our orders, the bartender immediately got my draft beer, but then acted like he didn't even hear my SO's cocktail order, continuing to make other drinks, run to the kitchen, etc before coming back again to ask if she made up her mind...after she already ordered. Next, the place was so noisy that we could barely hear each other. The brick and tile floors project all of the conversation to the point of even overshadowing the music. When we asked for the check, our server rang it up wrong and we had to remind him that our drinks should have been at the happy hour price, after already having to remind about happy hour when we got there. Needless to say, we left before even finishing our drinks and right about that time the bartender, trying to be overtly fancy, shattered a wine glass in mid-air on accident right over the bar top -- then didn't ask anyone if the shattered glass got in their drinks / on them -- he just laughed about it. Will definitely not come back solely for happy hour drinks at the bar, but may give it a shot to try the food. read more
