I've been in town for work on and off for a month now and being from California with our state still being under quarantine I was so excited to see a place with a great menu as well as a beautiful outdoor seating area. When I first came in I was greeted by a great hostess and I had chosen to be seated at the bar. Here is where I met Taylor. Not only was she very attentive to not only me but to the rest of the patrons in her busy area. And she did this with such ease and I could tell she loves being here as it shows in her service with each of us. I've been here 3 times now and each time she's made me feel so welcomed. Bravo to Taylor for making each of us feel like we're the only one in the room. Coming from someone who is in customer service I truly appreciate great service and I just had to leave a review. Oh and don't get me started on the menu! Everything I've ordered is absolutely delicious. Their salads are amazing. And I always order their avocado fries as they are a must for a starter. Um hello State Street Chicken Tenders! OMG and i'm not even a chicken tender kinda girl. Recently went here with a girlfriend for lunch during the week. We arrived at 11:30 and were immediately sat inside, although this was one of those days we wanted to sit outside due to the abnormally nice weather, but we didn't want to smell of outside once we returned to work. The place was pretty busy, but not so much so that we couldn't hear each other. Lots of patio diners. The menu looks amazing. I could have ordered every item on it. Things like hip chips (potatoe chips with lime, tabasco, served with habanero ketchup), hummus, a few different versions of tacos (including fish, which I wanted but didn't end up getting). Both of us got salad - I got the chicken tender salad. The chicken tenders are just as amazing as everyone says in the reviews. My friend had the spinach, pecan, something else, but subbed the grilled chicken for chicken tenders as well. We were both not disappointed. I also had a cup of the tomato basil since my prego tummy gets what it wants right now. We will definitely be back. Service was spot on, and the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the price. $14.50 for soup and salad, with water. After tip it was $17.50. Brunch hint: order the chicken and waffles from the DINNER menu (it's much more savory) or the Shrimp and Grits (again...from the dinner menu) and some bottomless mimosas. Those jalapeño grits and blackened shrimp... *drools* so amazing! Great service. Not too crowded. Although I'm rarely that far away from Dallas so I probably won't be returning, this place can rival any brunch spot in Bishop Arts, Knox/Henderson or Uptown any day. read more

Quite possibly the best breakfast I've ever had. That's a big statement coming from me as I could eat breakfast for every meal. I got the BBQ pulled pork hash, it had two sunny side up eggs, on top of brisket that was on top of scalloped potatoes. Need. I. Say. More. ALSO ... I guess I do need to say more, the Beignet's for a breakfast appetizer ... yes. I am now sticking to a GF diet, so unfortunately I only had them once, but they are PERFECT. Service has always been really great here as well. Very friendly and they are quick to seat you. It's never too crowded especially for weekend brunches, the coffee is great, and so are all of their morning cocktails. For me it's a quick bike-ride from the house, for others it may not be, but I seriously believe that this is one of the best spots in the Dallas metro area. read more

Our server Andrea (?) was amazing. The food was fairly good, and they have interesting flavors for any palette. We had the chicken & waffles and the 50/50 sandwich. The chicken was a little salty, but still pretty good. I wish they had gravy to go with it, but they don't have any. The 50/50 sandwich was also quite salty, but the pulled pork in it was amazing. The hip chips were decent, pretty much just homemade potato chips with a bit of Tabasco sauce. The only real downside was the saltiness of the food. Everything else was great. Loved the food here. We had some time to burn so we came to this place. We ordered the chicken with waffles, kids hamburger, mahi mahi taco, and a side of jalapeño grits.Everything was flavored just right and just really good. The chicken with waffle is massive and covered in syrup and served with shoe string fries. The mahi taco was served with black beans and the grits was tasty and the jalapeño gave it a nice kick. It was very good, if we had more room, we would've ordered more. read more

J Macklins continues to be great and terrible at the same time. I was hoping for a change filling the new chef but the food continues to be both great and marginal depending on the dish and day. This morning we arrived for brunch. I ordered the green eggs Benedict with sauce on the side. One of the two muffins was amazing. Egg was over easy, mushrooms were wonderful, sauce was light and not too heavy (ignore that it was NOT on the side). The egg on the other muffin was hard boiled (see pic). NEVER had hard boiled egg Benedict's but regardless the fact that the other egg was over easy to the point that it was almost undercooked (white part was also runny in some places) means that the hard boiled was NOT intentional. The worst part was we told our waitress and another member of the staff. Rather than remaking the meal they gave us 20% off my meal (full price for the remaining food including my drink). While the discount was at least a recognition that they messed up, offering 20% for messing up 50% of meal is a poor excuse for good service, especially since all I really wanted was a well cooked breakfast. read more

My husband and I love this restaurant. It is just the type of place that Coppell needed Nice atmosphere yet kid friendly and also has a bar area and large patio. It is well-priced and the staff is friendly. We eat here at least once a week, and have tried almost everything on the menu--all of it wonderful! The food is fresh and healthy-- No processed ingredients. My favorite burger is the mushroom burger with goat cheese. Their regular fries are crispy, Even more so if you request them extra crispy. Great poblano pepper soup. All the salads are fresh with a lot of variety. They have a full bar and also have a delicious brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Give it a try. Macklin's has consistently good food with a low-key, casual atmosphere. I really like their sweet potato fries and homemade potato chips! I come here a lot for lunch, and my favorite item was a fish sandwich with side salad instead of fries (even though I'm addicted to the fries! I resist the temptation for lunch most of the time). Their salads are higher quality, very well-prepared without ruining the lettuce or treating it like a chore. The vinaigrette dressing is excellent! I have eaten the food before and it was good. Today we go in for a nice lunch. We decide to sit at the bar because there was a wait. The bartender was busy but did not leave us waiting. We ordered the hummus which came with pita, carrots, and celery. The hummus was topped with a bunch of green onions. I understand garnishing it but a few would have sufficed. The top was completely covered with green. After scraping off the top layer, we could finally enjoy it. I decided to order the chicken tenders afterall they are supposed to be "famous" according to the menu. When they came out it was covered with green onions. Are you kidding me??? All the tenders were soggy and completely tasteless. The other entree that was ordered was the veggie burger with hip chips. The hip chips were soggy from the amount of tabasco that was used. It was also overwhelming that it took the flavor of the chips away. The veggie burger was good. It was just an ordinary burger nothing special. I went this afternoon for a quick bite and had a good experience. Since this was my first visit to J. Macklin's, I tried the flatbread because another Yelper recommended it and it sounded delish...and it was! Plenty of feta and artichokes turned this snack into a light dinner. And the pomegranate margarita? Small, but very tasty!! On the other hand, my friend had the pulled pork sliders, and she had to ask for extra BBQ sauce after she took a bite...a bit dry, she said, but nice flavor. The pork even looked dry on her sandwiches...ack. They definitely pay attention to detail, though, at JM's: the plates looked great when they came to the table...very appetizing! I'd like to go back for lunch or dinner sometime, although it was already starting to get busy when we left at 5:15. But I'd definitely fight the crowd for another one of those tasty margaritas! One note: no more happy hour? I don't know how recently it was discontinued, but your website should reflect that change asap. Of course, the way news spreads in Coppell, I'm surprised I hadn't already heard that before my visit! Overall, a pretty good experience! read more

This is my third visit to J Macklins but the first time we tried the brunch. Restaurant 3/4 full. The waitstaff was very friendly, and our server did a good job of describing the house specials. MUST TRY...World Famous Biscuit Beignets ! "Boon Fly" Benny - smoked ham, eggs, jalapeno hollandaise, served with skillet potatoes...EXCELLENT ! Loved the jalapeño cheese grits. Bland, Applebee's vs TGIF-inspired food and ambiance trying to be more upscale. It's a sports bar in fancier clothing. Food is OK--"caesar salads," burgers, etc. Really nothing too impressive. We were playing in a tournament out here and friends took us here. We ended up eating here twice. Once for dinner and once for brunch. Everything was excellent. We had a gyro (wonderful)., grilled cheese and tomato basil soup for dinner. Great dinner salad and grilled cheese was on point! For brunch we had the eggs Benedict with the ham and the Brunchiladas. Amazing. Brunchiladas was one of the best dishes I've had!!! Egg enchiladas with tomatillo salsa, cream, and avocAdo on top. Had a small bowl of black beans with. Arrived at the restaurant before 7 pm to have happy hour drinks and dinner. We sat outside. A waiter came by and we asked if we needed to check with hostess. She advised she would tell a waiter to check on us. Waitress came by brought us water and never returned while attending to tables all around us. Clearly she did not want to wait on us. After 20 minutes we left in utter disgust. This was our first time to the restaurant and will never return. What a disaster. Great food, great atmosphere! Sometimes live music. I often come by here for a casual lunch or dinner. My fave appetizer is their "Hip Potato Chips" that come with homemade ketchup -- they're addictive! (I'm slightly deflated that they've been coming with a sizable number of them damp/limp instead of crispy lately, indicating that they're not being fried at the right temperature or something -- but, they're still pretty yummy despite that flaw). My favorite entree is their Seared Ahi Tuna Sandwich, which is very yummy, with thin sliced ginger, excellent buns and a perfect sauce. This dish is consistent, excellent, and seems pretty healthy! Other times, I've gone for some of their other entrees -- fish tacos, or salmon dinner with couscous, etc -- all, really pretty good. My very biggest criticism is that this place would lend itself to being a great winebar, and it's the only restaurant in Coppell that would really fit that niche in terms of food and atmosphere. I'm consistently stunned that they have so few wines available here, since I believe they'd easily be able to incorporate more choices. This is one reason I sometimes decide to go elsewhere. I have dined at this restaurant many times and it is one of my favorite brunch spots. The food is great and the drinks are always fantastic! Drinks + Patio = Win! The staff is also very friendly. I have only had lunch/dinner at this restaurant a few times, but I love that they sometimes have live music on the patio (Thur-Sat evenings). Even though the patio is facing the street, I don't recall ever having an issue with street noise. We had made a seasonal trip to a pumpkin patch for the holidays in Flowermound. I read reviews and thought a burger & beer sounded good. I was a little excited when the server asked what temperature I wanted my burger, as this is a sign that I'm getting a more specialty burger (usually) keep in mind you can't cook a burger to temp unless it's an 8oz patty or bigger. This was a 3/1 patty therefore too small to cook to order. The taste was average, not bad not overwhelming. It's a family friendly place(we see a lot of kids) the short of it. Had tried this once before awhile back and remember not being over the moon about the food. However, in a rare moment of dining spontaneity, we decided to order some lunch as it's very close to home. Pleased to say it was pretty good! We had the barbacoa nachos, brisket melt sandwich, jaywalker tacos. I feel that pricing is appropriate for both quality and portion size received. Unfortunately, the bottom piece of bread on the sandwich was quite soggy and our order was incorrect the first time. Had the Texas omelette that's filled with crisp bacon, sausage, cheddar, and topped with cream gravy, cheese jalapeño grits (stellar) and a big delicious biscuit to complete my carb overload. Can't give 5 stars with those potatoes. They are cut thin like potato chips and fried stacked. Some are crisp, some soft, all greasy. Our waitress had a great attitude.
