An unfortunate situation happened to my family as we stopped in for an early Sunday dinner at Jack Allen's Kitchen on 360. On our way back from the airport we picked up our dog from her sitter and stopped in to try the new restaurant before heading home. As my husband and kids went inside to get a table, I waited outside with Penny, our 6yr old Lab. The restaurant did not allow dogs in the patio, so we were seated inside at a window table close to the front door. I secured the leash to an outside bench under the covered entry which was in full view from our table. She was fully able to lie down, stand up and had about a 3 foot span of loose leash. Inside, a kind gentleman took our drink order and when I asked if he could bring a container with water for the dog, he assured me he would with no problem. Fifteen minutes into drinks and an appetizer, we were approached by a hostess who informed us it was illegal to tether our dog outside (or anywhere in Texas) - we would have to remove Penny from where she was secured. I looked outside and Penny was quietly sitting next to a man on the bench who was petting her. We were bewildered at this point because: a. What kind of a place springs this on customers after they've been served drinks and appetizers and are patronizing your establishment in good faith? It was no surprise we had a dog when we arrived. We were told there were no dogs allowed in the patio dining area and the drinks waiter had no qualms about bringing our pet water after we informed him she was outside. We were never told prior to being seated we could not leave our dog outside. b. It was warm outside and leaving her in the car was CERTAINLY NOT an option. c. It is NOT against the law to safely tether your dog in Texas. Given the awkwardness of being mid-meal and the impossibility of putting Penny in the car, we asked her what she wanted us to do. She excused herself then returned. We expected her to tell us we were fine today (our entrees would be out at any moment) but in the future please not to bring our dog, which I would have fully respected. Instead we were curtly told, "We can pack your food to go or you can put your dog in your car." At this point everything became Willy Wonka. Imagine being at a restaurant with your family and out of nowhere you are told you have to leave, in the middle of your meal, because your dog is quietly and happily and safely sitting outside where you can see her. To make matters worse we were actually being told in order to stay we had to put our dog in the car. We got up - mid meal - and left. Outside we untied our dog and Jack Gilmore (owner and cook) himself was standing next to Penny. He introduced himself and a half-apology-half-indignant-attitude ensued. We told him we were upset at how this situation was handled. What little I was able to eat before our sudden departure would have stayed in my stomach until Jack started questioning, "Who would just leave a dog unprotected?" Seriously? I think the question is, "Who would suggest you put an animal in a car in this kind of weather," or "Who would treat customers like this when it was plain to see the dog was never 'unprotected' or at risk of any harm in any way?" I'm insulted that we walked in eager to support a local restaurant and left confirmed as, in someone's nonfactually-based perceptions, people who are abusive toward their pet. I'm sad Mr. Gilmore then stooped to a disparaging and self-affirming retort in that we were from in his words, "different planets," with his, of course, being the right one. If you have an issue with dogs at your establishment you have the responsibility to be forthright about it before anyone walks through your door. Maybe post a sign: PLEASE LEAVE YOUR DOGS IN THE CAR SO THEY'RE NOT LEFT IN THE SHADED GRASS NEXT TO THE COVERED PATIO. or perhaps: YOU'RE PROBABLY NOT LEAVING YOUR PET UNPROTECTED BUT I'LL JUST BELIEVE YOU ARE AND THEN I'LL TELL YOU YOU'RE FROM ANOTHER PLANET SO I CAN FEEL PIOUS. Yes, I think if we saw that sign before embarking on this nightmare of an experience in Jack Allen's Judgmental Kitchen we would have happily gone to Hat Creek first, where we ended up and had a good burger WITH our dog next to us in their (shaded) patio. And by the way: Sec. 821.077. UNLAWFUL RESTRAINT OF DOG. (a) An owner may not leave a dog outside and unattended by use of a restraint that unreasonably limits the dog's movement: Sec. 821.078. EXCEPTIONS. Section 821.077 does not apply to: (3) a dog restrained for a reasonable period, not to exceed three hours in a 24-hour period, and no longer than is necessary for the owner to complete a temporary task that requires the dog to be restrained; That would be like when a family stops in for an hour to support your new restaurant and safely secures their beloved pet in a shaded and covered area where they can see her at all times. Totally worth driving out a local patron, right? read more

was really excited for a new restaurant near by, menu is not what I like, all fried house specialties. Ate the fried spare rib it was all fat and had a burnt grease taste, my wife got a fried pork belly version of a BLT that was all fat, no meat at all, it was BAD. eaten there a couple of times to see if first experience was just an off night. I've been to several of their locations and I've never been disappointed. Best chicken fried steak I've ever had. Pimento cheese is good too and I don't even like pimento cheese. Patio at the 360 location was really chill and just what I needed on a Sunday afternoon. I no longer live in Austin but make it a point to come here when I am in town. read more

One of my favorite restaurants, I have always gone to the one in Oak Hill, great service and great food.

We were a table of 4, different tastes and expectations. Greeted warmly and efficiently by staff, seated so we could hear each others conversation. Margarita was terrific, salad was fresh and tasty. Pork chop was exceptional, as was the fish and the pork selections. Terrific varied selection. Could not resist the desserts and shared the apple crisp......worth every spoonful. Talk about a home run, Jack has hit a grand slam (ok, only 3 restaurants, but who's counting) with the 360 Location. Food, service, staff, atmosphere, all way above par but ESPECIALLY the food. This is what I call "haute sud", or High Southern Cuisine. Besides the standard Chicken Fried fares (NY Strip, pork chop, beef ribs or chicken), I've also sampled the specials, including the Shrimp & Grits (OMG), Get there between 3-7 and appetizers @ the bar are 1/2 off. No I do NOT work for Jack Allen's nor do I have any financial interest in the place - but it is great. Rare 5 stars for me. read more

Love the artwork in this restaurant, featuring all of the local wildflowers. They have delicious little samples of pimento cheese and the restaurant is very conscientious of the environment and using local food sources. As an appetizer we had the crab au gratin, it was creamy, fresh, and really yummy, served with thick crunchy bread! I had the Caesar salad and it was ok, the dressing was very oily, not a typical creamy style, lots of freshly grated Parmesan. My husband had the bacon wrapped quail and he thought it was delicious just expensive for the portion. My daughter had the potato soup, she was upset there wasn't more potato...she said it had more veggies than potatoes. Service was great! read more

Great food but it is amazing how many parents can't read the sign that clearly states no children beyond patio due to snakes and poisen ivy! The staff did nothing while I watched kids climb up and down the rocks and almost fell. The kids will be itching. Lol read more

Would love to find a go to place in 360 / 2222 area but for me jack allen's is not it. For starters the starter menu is just not fun, creative or inviting. We were looking for a happy hour junk food event and this was not the place. read more

I met a friend for lunch today and the service and food was beyond great! I ordered the chicken fried chicken with veggies and potatoes and consider this the best chicken fried chicken and potatoes I have ever had, the service was equally above standard. Wonderful brunch buffet. Best brunch in Austin. I only wish they had espresso drinks instead of just regular coffee.

We stopped in for a late lunch at 2 and were seated immediately. It's a family friendly place with lots of kids and mixed gen tables. I ordered the ruby trout and our waiter nicely substituted extra spinach for the rice; my husband had the grilled salmon. Both entrees were tasty and portion sizes were just right. The service was excellent and timely. The only downside about the place is the noise level in the main dining area is horrendous. We were stretching across the table to hear each other. We've sat in the back room and the acoustics there are a bit better. Overall, we highly recommend Jack Allen's read more

Coconut Fried Shrimp awful, small, and on a bed of rice where the flavoring was poor. It seemed as if the shrimp were frozen and flash fried. No other item like a vegetable was present. I would expect that on a dinner entrée and one that is the most expensive on the menu at $29.00. Had better at my favorite movie theater. Will not be coming back. read more

I seriously would come here all the time if I lived closer to it. We went on a Monday night, and there was a 10 minute wait but comfy couches to wait on so we didn't mind. We were so hungry so got two apps: bacon wrapped quail and a special that they had that night, lamb w/ stuffed avocado. Both were so amazing. For dinner, I got chorizo stuffed pork medallions and my boyfriend got the Chicken Fried Steak, which he loved. My dish was like nothing I've ever tasted before, seriously that good and I recommend it. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful with recommendations. Will definitely be back here! read more

An absolutely amazing experience all the way around. The hostess at the front door was attentive, helped us immediately and was super friendly. The waiter, Leighton, came out and helped us get my handicapped friend in to his wheel chair. He was the best ever waiter! Jack Allen himself is an amazing man. He took the time out of his busy day to fix a special meal, that was out of this world delicious, for my friend for his birthday. It was prepared and cooked to absolute perfection. He came to personally check on us several times throughout the meal. He pours his heart and soul in to his customers and you can really tell his staff like working for him. The ambiance and restaurant decor made for such a pleasant birthday dinner. If the bean soup is on the menu, it is a must have! Really, everything is delicious there. Good breakfast buffet but a few practices need more attention/tinkering. When our party expressed interest in receiving a plate of the tiny pancakes, the server brought them out family style. Nothing wrong with that but they should realize that when we are sitting there with our plates piled with salads and meats and tomato basil pie, there is no way to eat the pancakes until after they are cold. The server needs to bring clean small plates with the pancakes. Also, not enough syrup was provided and despite assurances that it was, one discerning member of our party could tell immediately that the syrup was most definitely NOT REAL maple syrup. read more

I've been to this location three times for dinner, and each time I've been left underwhelmed. I love the atmosphere but the food is lacking. My husband's mac and cheese was flavorless and my 13 spiced chicken pasta dish tasted like a bowl of mustard on our most recent trip. The service is always great, however. If I go back to Jack Allen's, it would likely be for brunch, but even that is unlikely. read more

My husband and I had burgers for lunch, and they were soooo good. We just visited there over the weekend, and tried a few places that were less than stellar. Not this place. They're farm to table and I can't go on enough about the tomatoes! I'm a tomato kind of girl and these blew me away. Also, I don't know if our server did this because he knew we were from AZ or not, but he brought out 2 pepper based sauces (one was habanero and the other was a mix of green peppers), and my husband loved them. And we would've never known to ask for it. The reason I marked this a 4 instead of a 5 is because of a couple of reasons. We ordered our burgers medium, and they were well done. Not cool. We ordered soda, and it was flat. They refilled it from a pitcher, so maybe that contributed. And the free "appetizer" was a cheese ball that was delicious but only gave us 2 crackers. The cheese just went to waste, which is sad because it was really good. Otherwise, the price was definitely great for the burger and we'll certainly be going back. read more

We took my parents for their anniversary dinner. The waiter, Han, was excellent. He made recommendations for appetizers and dinner that were spot on. The only problem we had the entire evening was ordering too much food. It was all wonderful and we tended to eat too much. We had several appetizers. The quail and the crab were particularly good. My first visit to Jack Allen's on 360 and I am very impressed! My wife and I were invited to dinner by a friend who 'won' a dinner for 8 at a charity auction. We were greeted with enthusiasm, immediately sat and our drink orders were taken. Jack came by the table to give us the low down on the appetizers he had prepared for us and to let us know we could order anything we wanted from the food and drink menu but that he had already put our desert order together. Everything from first impression to the last bite of desert was perfect. Jack is a gracious host and the restaurant puts out amazing food! Can't wait to go back!! read more
