We must have caught this restaurant during an off period bc the food wasn't as good as I had heard it was. First time here for my sons birthday. 6:15 reservation and seated immediately. Was quiet when we arrive but absolutely packed when we left. 2 of us had the flank steak. It was cooked perfectly as ordered. I don't get the French Frye's thing with steak but they were good. Wish there were other options. Especially since I got crab legs too. Weird combination. Not a fan of a mound of undressed arugula. Could've left that off. But overall very good. The others got a chicken Caesar and some chicken rice Asian style thing. They both enjoyed. There are some highs and lows, I gave it 4 stars because of the highs but if I could do 3.5 stars it would be more accurate. A few years and dozens of visits later, it's time to give Jacky Sprat their 5th star! This (along with Froth and Forage) is probably my favorite restaurant in Alaska, let alone the greater Anchorage metro. Everything I've said before applies. I love their rotating food and rotating taps. One of the major criticisms of Jack Sprat (it's small, has long wait times) has been greatly alleviated by their beautiful expansion area. The service used to be spotty, but it now seems like they have a regular crew that is both friendly and efficient. There are two types of people in Alaska: Double Musky people and Jack Sprat people. Omg this meal was the highlight of my month! It was really quite amazing. To start, we showed up around 5:30pm and there was no wait for two people. We were seated in the back room which looks like an architectural delight and cozy ski lodge. For the food, we ordered the scallops (7/10) and the Caesar salad (8/10). For the entrees, we ordered the halibut curry (one million out of 10) and the prime rib (20/10). These dishes were so delectable and the best thing we ate in Alaska. Such an enjoyable experience! There are limited dining options in Girdwood but I wouldn't say Jack Sprat is a must stop. I think the pricing was fair for the location and todays food pricing. They only have beer and wine, but that's common amongst many Girdwood restaurants. VERY long wait for a table for two. It was a two hour wait with no where to comfortably wait There was one or two tables outside to wait at BUT no heaters...I'm from Alaska and it was cold. So we ended up going back to our air bnb while we waited after having a drink at JS. The menu is unique. It certainly is "worldly cuisine" but there certainly is something for everyone. I wish I had something else other than bibimbap as it not that good. My partner had the burger but the fries were barely fried and the bun was dry. So food was....meh. They can cater to gluten free and vegan which is a huge plus. HOWEVER, I was brought out what the waiter called soy sauce (not GF). I had to wait to eat my food until I could verify if it was GF and I flagged down a food runner who said "it's tamari. So it's GF". I don't know if it was tamari and to be on the safe side I didn't use it, which the dish needed. When it got to the desert we wanted the "Peachy Keen" which was listed as GF on the menu. I went to confirm with the waiter and he said "the vanilla ice cream obviously isn't". I've never heard of plain ice cream not being gluten free....he said he can make the desert GF by putting it on the side. I again confirmed which ingredient of the dish had gluten and he said "it's the ice cream, that's what I was getting at. We're also out of the vegan cheesecake" I said no I don't want it but my partner did, so we ordered it regular just for him but they brought it out "deconstructed" which ruined it for him. The waiter never came back to check on us. If you're going to advertise being GF/DF/V (which is great) having staff trained in it is essential. Somewhat of a disappointing experience. We came here for a work dinner while staying at Alyeska. The menu is more limited (but lots of variety) and FYI they only serve beer and wine. We were a party of 12 and had reserved a table. However, upon arrival, we were informed that a large party (who arrived just minutes before us) was seated in our reserved table. So our group was split into 2, not conducive for team building. One star penalty for this faux pas. As I mentioned the menu is limited but we did enjoy the food. Everything came with the option of adding on salmon, which you had to do in Alaska right?? For appetizers we had the scallops, nachos, salad, and the I Dip, You Dip, We Dip. I would have liked to see more options here. Another star deducted. Entree: I had the deep sea curry with salmon (surprisingly had good flavor) and the rest of my table had the peanut pan (which they all loved, but wasn't able to finish all the noodles). Desert: We had one of each! Drinks: We were able to score two bottles of Duckhorn Chardonnay so we were a happy bunch. Some had sangria which they seemed to enjoy as well. I was visiting Girdwood with my family last week. Our driver recommended Jack Sprat, so we gave it a try. We were amazingly surprised to find excellent food, a cozy atmosphere and great service! We loved it so much that we went twice within a week. Everything was perfect, including the mulled wine served outside while we were waiting for our table. What a phenomenal gastronomical journey we had at Jack Sprat! I felt like I was eating culinary art. My Deep Sea Curry was delectable, and lusciously wonderful. Twice now we have driven 45 minutes and arrived early for dinner only then do we find out that they are closed for a special event. No mention of closures on their website or on their voicemail. This is frustrating for a restaurant to do this when they do not accept reservations - you must be there in person to find out. Overall a very quaint little restaruant with inviting and friendly staff. We arrived earlier than our reservation time and they were able to seat us quickly. We had the Kodiak Scallops for an appetizer and they were amazing. They were cooked perfectly and the garnish was delicious. We saw others around us enjoying the yam fries which would have been our second choice. Two of us ordered bibimbap and two of us ordered the pappardelle with sausage made from scratch. The bibimbap was good, especially with the hot sauce provided, but several people did not like the kale that was part of the entree. It seemed to have too much of a brine taste. While the sausage in the pappardelle was excellent, everyone at the table felt that the sauce was too acidic and leaned too much towards a watery tomato sauce. The homemade noodles while excellent but were a little hard to eat because of their length. In all a decent meal with great service, but at $160 for four people with no drinks it didn't seem to be worth the price. read more

Jack Spratz in Girdwood. Went there a couple summers ago. No complaints for the food or service. This weekend was ladies night and we decided to give it a go. Some of the ladies have never been. We waited for about 30 minutes to be seated. Waitress told us the specials. One being Mac and Cheese. Sounded amazing. We all ordered. An hour went by. People that had arrived long after us, had already got their food. We asked how much longer our food would be since we were all hungry. We ordered some bread to hold us over. The bread was heated up and very doughy. 10ish minutes later our food came. Everything from the steak, fries, shrimp, Mac n cheese, Vegi's and Halibut were COLD. We let our waitress know. She took a few plates back to warm. After they came back they were still cold. I asked very nicely for the Manager. I mentioned to the waitress this was not her fault. She felt bad about the food. Manager Kiara came over with a condescending attitude. We explained the issues. She then went on with "they were very busy" and dismissing the fact that the food was cold and continued with excuses. She was going to remove the shrimp from the bill and give us each a discount. Fast forward. Some of us did eat some of the food since we were hungry. Checks came, the shrimp was removed but there were no other discounts. I asked for the manager again. I stepped outside for a moment and came back in to Kiara speaking as loud as she could to our table. I walked up to her and asked why she was yelling at us. She responded with "I'm talking to a group of people". I said yes yelling at them. We told her several times we just wanted to pay and leave. She told me that we were disrespectful!! I told her she was extremely unprofessional and clearly didn't have the best interest for the Restaurant. Everyone in the Restaurant was now staring at her and us. When I tell you we are the nicest women, believe me. I have never been treated so poorly. Kiara then stated we will comp the entire dinner. Yelling "just make sure you tip my server!" I told her, we planned on it cause at least she knows how to do her job. We left and tipped our lovely server $70 and told her NOT to share that tip with anyone else. Not the kitchen and most definitely with the Manager. Since clearly the kitchen let our food sit long enough to be chilled and the Manager doesn't know how to communicate with guests. Totally blew my mind. Never will any of us return and support this establishment. Rating 1/5 OVERALL only cause our server was a great. read more

So this is probably the best restaurant within a 70 mile radius of Anchorage. It's really good but still not the best meal of your life good. Ok, with that out of the way, I got the bacon wrapped dates, Thai curry with pork, and the chocolate cake. The bacon wrapped dates were bomb and I now make them at home after falling in love with them here. The Thai curry with pork (NO rice is included so BOOO) was full of great veggies that were fresh. I took the chocolate cake back to my hotel and it was divine. I highly recommend saving space for dessert! read more

Possibly the best meal on my entire 6 week road trip through Alaska! I found this place through yelp and listened to what fellow yelpers had to say. I arrived right as they opened to ensure a table. This is very important! Within a half hour every table was seated. So, get there early! I can't emphasize this enough. Our server was attentive and knowledgable. The soup wasn't ready yet when we placed our order and I was slightly disappointed by this. No biggie though, plenty of other options. I had the BLT salad, which was perfect in every way. It was big enough to be my entree, but I didn't know that when I also ordered the Peanut Pan. Both were delicious, and I had plenty to take away for left overs. Between my salad and entree, the chef must have finished the soup, so the server brought me a small tasting sample. This was very thoughtful of him and shows he is an experienced server. I ordered the King Dong Cake to-go and enjoyed it over the next few days on the road. The ambience was awesome, the people friendly, and the food very flavorful! What more can you ask for in a tiny town like this. Definitely exceeded my expectations. *The Peanut Pan was even incredible the next day as I ate it cold! So yummy. read more

Disappointing meal after a great Nordic spa experience at Alyeska. Please don't get the Bibimbap if you've ever had it somewhere else (like a Korean place), my egg was over cooked, the pork had very little seasoning. Smothering it in hot sauce helped. For dessert we asked our server for recommendations. When you compare a big bowl of ice cream to a cheesecake - It would have been nice if she pointed out the cheesecake was not cheesecake as it was vegan. (Naked) berry cheesecake. I guess I didn't have my glasses on but the less than friendly server when we asked between the Double Black Diamond didn't bother to mention this was vegan. We all tried a bite and it was not good at all. We told the server (who was probably vegan) and she asked do you want to take it to go? We were all loudly "NO it was disgusting". She didn't take it off the bill and cleared off the table and left it there just to mock us. Should have given it 1 star but I heard the owner is a very nice person. read more

No offer of have a glass of wine while you wait, no bathroom, no kindness - just sitting in the car waiting for them to let people in who are now lined up outside in the rain. Food is not great. We're from the Bay Area and Jack Sprat, in this tiny Alaskan town, was definitely comparable to the quality of Bay Area restaurants. Service was also very good. The vegan nachos, burger, and bibimbop were delicious, as was the steak (though they didn't cook it properly the first time around, they re-fired it for us and it was good the second time.) The only dish we didn't think was all that great was the halibut burrito. I've had much better burritos before and I thought that at $18, it should have come with something a little more exciting than 4-5 chips. Just know that if you are there in the summer, you must arrive before 5:30pm if you don't want a 2-hour wait. When we were there on a Saturday, they actually just stopped taking any more parties after 6pm. If you're a "foodie" or just someone who appreciates thoughtful, fresh food-- do not go to the Double Musky, no matter what you've heard. It was terrible-- basically glorified fast food quality. 12/24/18 Definitely one of the our favorite restaurants in Alaska. And, even better, we were able to dine here on so short notice for Christmas Eve! The place is an interesting juxtaposition of homey elegance and modern fine dining. More emphasis on the home-style warmth. Alright, well, you probably have had holiday dinners at restaurants before, and as you know, for the most part they almost always are worse than the normal food the restaurant serves. Well, pretty much always. I've NEVER had a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner at a restaurant that measured up to the standard caliber of the restaurant, and for that matter, probably never even had a good Christmas dinner at any restaurant at all!... ...that changes NOW. This was The Best Christmas Dinner at any restaurant, ever. (And even nicer... everything around us was as white as our eyes can see. Well... alright, besides the fact that they only have like 5 hours of daylight during winter, but let's just forget that part.) 1. Aurora Chardonnay $10 "south Australia": To start us off was this excellent Chardonnay. Even my gf said, "mmmmmm uhhhhh uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh good Chardonnay..." (gonna have to continue the moaning later)... 2. Kombucha Kocktail $9 "vodka, hibiscus & lime kombucha, grenadine, fresh mint": Well, okay cocktails aren't their thing. Tasted like straight up kombucha. Where's the alcohol!?!? 3/10 3. Christmas Special Salad $10 "whipped French feta, tomatoes, shaved celery root, cumin vinaigrette, fried chickpeas, butter lettuce": Lots of interesting things going on. Loved the fried chickpeas, which were different. Also, I thought the cheese was burrata, but surprise it was whipped feta! I hate feta, but this was mild enough in taste. Very creative salad. 8/10 4. Misty Isle Farms Ribeye $42 "12 ounce grilled all natural angus, juniper rub, house steak sauce, local potatoes, chimi churri, broccolini, roasted garlic": Steak started wonderful--meaty, juicy, and tender. Strangely as I ate more it got more cooked an tougher. Not sure how that's possible, cause the middle is supposed to be rare, but, well, I dunno. Maybe that kombucha cocktail had more alcohol than I thought?, ha ha. The broccolini was perfectly cooked, and I loved the chimuchurri on top. + 1/4lb King Crab $14: Alaskan fresh. What else is there to say? Best "surf and turf" I've ever had. 9/10 5. Tomahawk Pork Chop $32 "pink pepper crust, chanterelle mushrooms, roasted beet, white bean puree, sarsaparilla jus, arugula": Alright, they LIED. It's not a "tomahawk." But whatever, still a great bone-in pork chop. No... strike that--MUTHA F'IN AMAZING pork chop! Soooooo tender. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo tender. We even asked the waitress how they did this, thinking they must have brined this for forever, and maybe even sous vide for a while to break down the protein. She asked the chef..... who said it was pan seared to keep it juicy. WHAT??? WHAT THE F1?!? Just seared!? I dunno, maybe they wanted to keep their secrets. Whatever. Might be 2nd best pork chop I've EVER had (best was in LA.) And heck, besides the pork chop, I loved the rest too. The beets were the perfect pairing--better than the typical preserves on top for sure. 10/10 6. Hippy Speedball Coffee Stout - Nitro $7 "girdwood brewing company": Forgot to take notes (or more likely was too absorbed by the food to give a crap.) But I do remember it wasn't as creamy as a nitro beer should be. 7. Disznoko Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 2007 $12 "Hungary": Really delicious. Like a white dessert wine but far more complex. Plenty of fruitiness but still ultra sweet. 9/10 8. Lietz Reisling $11 "rheingau Germany": A little on the dry side. 9. Cashew Dream Cake $11 "blueberry & vanilla organic cashew filling, almond date coconut crust, agave caramel": I was expecting something like a pecan pie, but this was more like a coconut cheesecake with some blueberry. Great atmosphere. Wife liked salad but felt overpriced. I usually get big salad but this time tried their burger...asking "if can put plenty of lettuce and tomato"... I usually ask to leave off dressing but thought it would be good "if extra lettuce...". It came back full of dressing and a sliver of lettuce. Came here with the fam to grab a quick bite before driving back to Anchorage. We decided to split a couple appetizers among the 4 of us- the $12 gnocchi, $12 vegan nachos, and the $16 mezze plate. We liked them all! Our server was nice and the food came out in 10. The gnocchi was my personal fav. It was a lot of really good pasta for only $12 that your average Italian restaurant would likely charge $15-20 for. The gnocchi was dressed in a creamy pesto sauce and came with pancetta, capers, cauliflower and a couple herbal garnishes. It all worked wonderfully together and was quite filling. While the other dishes were maybe a bit pricey for what you got, they were both really good. The vegan nachos were cheesy (and tasted like cheese!) and had a kick to them from the peppers. I wasn't totally sold on the "meat" (walnut and portabello), tasted a bit too walnuty for me. My cousin thought it tasted like beef though! Good nachos despite that. The mezze plate was a hodgepodge of various items: pita, hummus, eggplant pate, figs, harissa, pickles, roasted garlic, olives... We liked them all except the harissa. Another winner! Food was surprisingly great; everything else was TERRIBLE. We got here at 5 pm on a Wednesday night (open at 4) and were told the wait was 45-60 mins. After checking in a few times with the host, and watching parties who arrived after us seated, we ultimately waited 2 hours for a table (long waits are apparently very common, after reading reviews)! When we finally got inside, we were sat at a table for like 6+ people (we were party of 2). It suddenly made much more sense why the wait was so long. The food of course took a very long time to come out. But once it did, it was good (not worth the wait, but we enjoyed our meals). There was a printed sign on the host stand that basically said they were understaffed and to go somewhere else... set a very odd and uncomfortable tone from the get go.
