I have always heard such good things about this place...I went here about two year ago was sat down and no one would take my order. I heard a server complain that I was there table and no one would serve me. I ended up leaving after about 20 minutes......I was the only one in the resturant....they were to be closing in about an hour. I came back to try it out again today for breakfast....We were waiting to be seated but they just kept seating others ahead of us.....we only had three in our party. After finally being seated another man was seated next to our table... he was promptly waited on and served food in no time flat.....mean while we had to wait and wait to put our order in and finally got our order in....the service was slow and if you want coffee refills you better be obnoxious or loud or forget getting more of there weak coffee....by the time our food came to our table the guy next to us was pretty much done and ready to leave......I had the hawaiian bread french toast....which was suppose to be made from hawaiian bread ........hmm not exactly sure if it was hawaiian bread or not but it was pretty bland....not sweet like I expected and they did not flavor the toast with anything like vanilla or nutmeg cinnamon or anything else... Dear Jackie.....I do not know why people are going to your place but there is nothing I want to come back to....your food is nothing special and your service really sucks!! read more

This is not just a restaurant, it's a community of people who love comfort food and sweet diner style service. They have guava juice! You can get food usually only served on Hawaii. This is a place that you go to once and then next thing you know, you are a regular and the waitress greets you with a "haven't seen you in awhile!" This is more of a local's spot. The food is good, very diner like atmosphere even though it's pretty large inside. We ate there twice during our stay. The hawaiian french toast was very good. The omelets only so-so. The portugese sausage was also quite yummy and my husband enjoyed the reindeer sausage, even though I wasn't a fan. read more

This may be one my new favorite breakfast spots. The waitresses are really nice and friendly and they are top of it for your water and coffee, especially your coffee. We sat at the bar and that was nice. It seems like they have their regulars and they all know each other, but everyone was super friendly!! We both got omelettes and they were PERFECT and delicious!! They were pretty big, but we managed to finish them! We got our hash browns extra crispy and my English muffin dry. Everything was exceptional!! I definitely want to come back to try some of their other items. The food also came out within 15 minutes of ordering, despite the fact that the place was jam packed!! W also got Apple pie a la mode after and it was sooooo good, drizzled with chocolate and a few cherries too!! Just writing this review makes me want to go back tomorrow morning!! read more

One of my favorite places to get my coffee fix and breakfast! I've been to this diner a few times already since I moved to Anchorage 3 years ago. The diner feels quite homey and the staff are friendly. Most of the time I order Aaron's Egg white Omelet (Turkey, reindeer, onion, jalapeno, bell pepper, tomato, mushrooms, mozzarella) when I eat there. I think I've order the waffle one time but that was a long while ago. Overall the diner experience has always been excellent. I don't remember what my husband orders (he actually orders different things when we go) but no complains from my hubby. Will be back here for breakfast when we're too lazy to cook! :P read more

Great place, nice friendly staff. Linguica is awesome, but if you like French toast, get Hawaiian style French toast. We sat down and all 3 booths around us were empty. First booth fills in and they grab the coffee which is right behind us and walk right by our table to serve them. I'm a little upset but brush it off. Then the 2nd and 3rd tables fill in and again they serve those table and walk right by us. I try to say something and they just ignore me, so I get up and walk out. I call the manager and explain the situation and she says there is nothing they could do about it, sorry. We decided to come here when our plans for Snow City Cafe fell through. Rather than wait hours, I found this place on yelp and we headed here instead. Upon arriving, we found it packed with locals who were friendly with the staff. I find this is a good indicator that the food will be good. We were quickly seated but it took a long time for the food to come out. I'm glad they prepare the food to order as opposed to pre-cooked and heated when someone orders but I was starving by the time the food came out. I had the corned beef hash with sunny side eggs and hash browns. It was so good and reminded me of my favorite childhood diner. My brother had chocolate pancakes, which I still dream of to this day. I don't even like pancakes but they were so good. Too bad we live in Texas or I would come back for them. My family members were all satisfied with their meals and we had no regrets missing snow city cafe. The workers were also kind and accommodating. read more

Last weekend I built my own omelette with provolone cheese, hashbrowns, and corned beef hash - I knew as I was eating it that I'd probably start having cravings for it in the future because it was just SOO good! I have Breakfast at this place on Friday mornings or Saturday mornings they have really good omelettes they do a good job cooking their eggs because I like my eggs medium so the whites are cooked but the yoke is still runny the only reason I didn't give him the five stars is the last couple times their biscuits have been kind of hard like they were left over from the day before so I know if they cook their biscuits fresh every morning or if they are Frozen?? Good biscuits are an art and I think it could make or break your biscuits and gravy dish for breakfast so I wished they improve on their biscuits. This morning was the first time I've tried Jackie's and it won't be the last. Across the street is the Bear Tooth and the popularity of that establishment (rightfully earned) hid this gem from my attention. Let me say up front, pretentiousness should be left at the door here. Hell, leave it in the parking lot in the car with the window cracked. First thing you'll see is a 'Please Seat Yourself' sign. Two rotating fans and an assortment of lights hang from the ceiling. There are no frills, but there is bar seating. The walls boast a motley collection of pictures, paintings, awards all hung with purpose and care. It reminds me of some of the places my dad used to take me back home in Virginia when I was growing up...which might account for at least one star. The atmosphere exudes authenticity and small town charm. Everyone knows everyone and there is a mutually appreciated relationship between the 'regulars' and those taking orders. I'm still the new guy quietly eyeballing everything for the first time. Anyway, on to the food. I got the Working Man and it did not disappoint. The biscuits were perfect, the gravy was not overpowering. The bacon...sublime. And don't get me started on the potatoes. Simple but solid is how I would describe my first take of this culinary experience. If you're looking for the fancy brunch or the hipster guy with a beard and ironic plaid, go across the street. That place is great in its own fashion. Here's a place where you use your smart phone to read the news...better yet, grab a newspaper on the way in if you're coming by yourself, but be prepared to put it down and engage with a few of the other patrons nearby. If with a group, try an old fashioned idea for an old fashioned place: conversation. read more
