Jake was a fantastic bar tender! He made excellent recommendations, and had a great personality, gave us a tour of where they smoke the meat, asked if we wanted pictures! He was rad! We loved the burnt ends SO MUCH! I have never tried this place because I honestly had zero hope that a Seattle BBQ place would be good, but I was very pleasantly surprised! Never again! I ordered food on 12/20/23 in person at their SODO location at 1:50pm for a 5pm pick-up. I arrived at 5pm and was told it wasn't ready & I would have to wait. I asked if I could have a diet coke while I wait, they asked for $4 which was definitely not worth the price, so I passed and sat in the lobby. In a few minutes guy came and was told to wait for his food as well. 15 minutes later that guy had already left with his food, and I was still sitting there. An employee came over and asked me what I was waiting for... then said they had no record of me ever ordering, did I order at another location? "No, I ordered here in person at 1:50pm for a 5pm pick-up." Again, he said they had no record of such order. I walked out to my car to look for the paper receipt and brought it back in to show him. He never once apologized but rather was just confused as to why they had no record of it asking me numerous questions about my $92.33 transaction over 3 hours ago. Customer service was not a concept at all! I finally got the food... still no apology or anything. We had supported this restaurant while they were struggling during the COVID lock-down. They emailed out a plea to buy gift cards at the time, to use once they reopened. I will not trouble them again and I recommend you don't either. While I loved the look and feel of the place, as well as the very friendly people I encountered while there, I have to say that the food is not as good as what I really hoped it would be. I ordered a sweet tea since that's my go-to drink when eating barbecue (thanks to my former neighbors and friends in Nashville, Austin, Durham). Sad to say that the smoky back after taste wasn't all that pleasant. This time around, I tried their vegan option, which, according to their menu, was made of Oyster mushrooms. There were more brown/cremini/baby bella mushrooms in it than the oysters - different flavor profiles for sure. While no one goes to a barbecue place looking to eat vegan food, if you're going to offer it and take the time to write out a menu description, please follow it. I also had the corn bread. Don't... just don't! I bought 3 slices at $5.50/slice - I tossed almost all of it! Please taste it, compare it to others out there, tweak your recipe. Even I make better ones, and this is not my wheelhouse! The southerners definitely spoiled my taste buds. This is my 2nd time trying out Jack's (Columbia Tower was the first) - I can definitely say that I will be going to the mom & pop shops and give them my business and reviews. I have said it before and I will say it again. I travel for barbecue. I'm not an expert on Kansas City, Texas or Chicago style barbecues. I'm an expert on taste, my taste. We arrived at Jacks and immediately got a great nose full of smokiness. The scent of smoke just flows through the restaurants which makes you anticipate biting into something good. It's a great smell! I ordered the $26 meat combo which is pictured below. It could be plated better to give the appearance of a hearty meal. The plating looks skippy, however it should fill you up. The food was ok. The ribs were smoked perfectly! Everything else was marginal. The "chili" was just shredded brisket in chilli sauce. Great concept, no waste, use the leftover brisket add it to a chilli mix and bam! The macaroni was cheesy like the old fashion boxed macaroni. They could throw it on the smoker to add a little flavor. The greens were average flavor but had a lot of meat in them. They would not compare to some in the deep south but they were good. Jacks BBQ is the best comparable bbq I've had to Texas. Hearty and a good amount of food. I'd recommend just getting a platter of different types of meat to try and experiment. I heard they have a lot of good drinks as well. The servers are very friendly and won't hesitate to answer any questions. The restaurant has great parking and a good amount of space. read more

As soon as you walk in, you get hit with the smell of smoked meat. Let me say, its such a tantalizing smell, it makes your mouth water... And sometimes that leads to over ordering. They serve it all and have all the family favorites! Although The Picnic ($69) sounded appealing (Brisket, Robs, Sausage, Pulled Pork, Chicken and 4 sides). I dare say it would have been too much for just two people. Instead we opted for the Texas Trinity ($29.50)- brisket, sausage x2 (regular and a cheddar jalapeno), and ribs with 2 sides (Buttermilk Cornbread and Queso Mac N Cheese.). When it arrives it doesn't look like enough. But don't forget to ask for the fixin's, (White bread, homemade pickles, onion and jalapenos)! The homemade pickles were the best! Sour tang with a hint of heat! I'd eat a whole jar of those, if they offered it. I asked for some bread a couple times, and the server seemed to have hear white noise come out of my mouth cause he for got it when I asked for it twice. It was alright though, really didn't need it to distract from all the great BBQ. The ribs had a thick smoke ring and practically fell off the bone. The sausage was tasty and perfectly seasoned. The brisket was the real winner. A good balance of fat and meat and it melts in your mouth. Chewing almost felt like an option, it was so good! Ugh I hate to be the whiner but I seem to have the worst luck with getting good BBQ at Jack's. I've gone 5 times in the last two years and each time the brisket and/or pulled pork is well...not good. It's either too dry and stiff (like it's been sitting in the holding oven for way too long and whatever fat still in it has completely rendered out), or tough and not fully done. Since I work near by, it's always tempting me, so I went again two days ago and crossed my fingers since it appears others are getting the good stuff based on prior reviews...but no. So, I just ordered the pecan pie and had dessert for dinner. And I'm pleased to say that was very tasty! read more

This is more like 3.5 stars, but I'll round up. Got the Double Trouble to go, which included everything below: Ribs & brisket: the ribs were a bit better than the brisket. Both had good texture/tenderness, but lacking in flavor. I understand there is bbq sauce on the side, but sometimes I just want to eat the meat alone, and this meat didn't even seem to have salt on it. I don't know why some bbq places do this, maybe other people like it that way. However, the meat did have a nice smokiness that I could sense in the back of my throat. Once I added the sauce, the overall flavor was very nice. Mac & cheese: delicious queso cheese, and it was actually creamy this time. I've gotten it before at their SLU location (where they serve the fried chicken sandwich), and it was soupy that time. This time it was very good. Beans: eh, ok. For the price, I wish there were a bit more food in this combo. Service was friendly, and because the meat was way better once I added the sauce, it was a good experience. Fantastic restaurant. Excellent Texas style barbecue, service and decor. Our waitress started us off with a free sample of barbecued alligator! I liked it. The wedge salad superb. The salad dressing made fresh. I kept asking for more and more cherry tomatoes and out they kept coming. The pulled pork, ribs and sausage slowed cooked perfectly. The barbecue sauce also made fresh. Two options with the bbq sauce. Mild or semi hot. No room for dessert. Sorry. However I've read very good things about their pecan pie and peach cobbler. I really wanted to try the cobbler. Pre pandemic our company had a retirement party for a long time employee on 1/17/20. We had an area blocked off that only our party took up. The staff was great and the food was delicious. This was the first time going to Jack's besides attending the Slow and Low the year before with a friend that had an extra ticket. The party was nice cause I was able to try a variety of meats and sides, as well as desserts and check out their cocktails. The party was a great success and everyone had a wonderful time. Jump ahead to last week, I went for lunch with a friend from work we were on our way back from an event site visit and decided to stop by the SODO location, and get it to go it's not far from our office in the ID. I ordered the Double Trouble figured I'd have it for a few meals. I went with the chicken and brisket, for sides I selected the greens and cornbread. Any time there are greens I like to try them. Meat was moist and flavorful, greens were delicious and had a lot of meat in it. The cornbread I remember being good at the party but the day we went for lunch it was little dry. They boost their food up WAY TO HIGH. Waiter came to us and said " we don't sauce our 12 hr cooked ribs and briskets, which will melt in your mouth, we just salt and pepper and let you decide on sauce!" Lol that right there straight up was a red flag. The ribs were on the dryer side and very bland. They give you like two pieces of brisket and you get one piece that's really good and soft. Other piece is chewy, dry and tastes like chewing gum. (I spit it out) The waiter will push you to buy a tomahawks steak also so beware of that. Jack's BBQ is a really cool barbecue place with several locations in the Seattle area. The owner used to work at Microsoft, but now he's a total barbecue expert! I've been to their SoDo location several times. They are open during COVID-19 for dine-in (indoor or outdoor seating). It is really easy to get to the restaurant. They are right on Airport Way and they have two parking lots! When I come here with my husband, I usually order the BBQ Sandwich, which is your choice of meat (Brisket, Chicken, or Pulled Pork) and your choice of side (I usually go for the Mac N Cheese). By the way, the Banana Pudding is delicious, so you should definitely try it! Of course, BBQ is more fun when you have a big group and can share items. We actually had our wedding rehearsal dinner here. They have a really cool separate space for rent called the "Double D Lounge". We have also come here for special events. We attended one of their "Prime Rib Nights" for Valentine's Day, and it was a great way to celebrate that holiday. The employees at Jack's BBQ have always been friendly and helpful, so we enjoy coming here and I definitely recommend it to others! read more

Disappointed and Won't Be Returning As a Texas native, I was really hoping Jack's BBQ would offer a solid taste of home. Unfortunately, this visit was incredibly disappointing from start to finish--both in food quality and service. Food: The brisket was dry, tough, and tasted like it had been reheated in a microwave. I had to drown it in sauce just to get through it without feeling like I was chewing on cotton. I've had better brisket from frozen dinners, and that's not an exaggeration. The chili was more of a spicy soup--mostly liquid with very little meat--and the cornbread, while decent in flavor, was served cold like the rest of the meal. We ordered the peach cobbler to go, but what we got was just peaches in syrup. No crust, no crumble--just a container of sweet canned fruit. It didn't feel like care was put into anything that came out of the kitchen. Service: Michael, our waiter, was friendly but completely inattentive. It took over 15 minutes just to get our drink order taken, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. Our appetizer never showed up, and he didn't realize until I pointed it out. Refills? Never offered. He got our dessert order wrong and never followed up to fix it. Other staff had to step in just to help us get what we ordered. We were there for nearly 2.5 hours, most of it spent waiting for things that never came. I still left a tip because I've worked in restaurants before and try to give grace, but this felt like the bare minimum in hospitality. This was my third visit, and sadly, each time has been worse than the last. I won't be coming back. If you're in Seattle and looking for authentic Texas-style BBQ--keep looking. I told her I would be in, in 20 minutes and I got there in 30. I love the smell of BBQ joints that smell like wood smoking meat. I got a pound of ribs, half of chicken, half pound of brisket, half pound of pulled pork, a bowl of chili and a hot link. I had friends help me critique each piece and every single piece received a 5-star. The chicken isn't always mentioned but the smoke really stood out. The chili was good and to each his own. Jack's ranking should be number one, best in the PNW! I've sampled BBQ in the UK, St. Louis, Chicago, Maryland and Oklahoma. My favorites are Little Miss BBQ in Arizona and Jacks in the PNW.
