Jack's BBQ is a really cool barbecue place with several locations in the Seattle area. The owner used to work at Microsoft, but now he's a total barbecue expert! I've been to their SoDo location several times. They are open during COVID-19 for dine-in (indoor or outdoor seating). It is really easy to get to the restaurant. They are right on Airport Way and they have two parking lots! When I come here with my husband, I usually order the BBQ Sandwich, which is your choice of meat (Brisket, Chicken, or Pulled Pork) and your choice of side (I usually go for the Mac N Cheese). By the way, the Banana Pudding is delicious, so you should definitely try it! Of course, BBQ is more fun when you have a big group and can share items. We actually had our wedding rehearsal dinner here. They have a really cool separate space for rent called the "Double D Lounge". We have also come here for special events. We attended one of their "Prime Rib Nights" for Valentine's Day, and it was a great way to celebrate that holiday. They boost their food up WAY TO HIGH. Waiter came to us and said " we don't sauce our 12 hr cooked ribs and briskets, which will melt in your mouth, we just salt and pepper and let you decide on sauce!" Lol that right there straight up was a red flag. The ribs were on the dryer side and very bland. They give you like two pieces of brisket and you get one piece that's really good and soft. Other piece is chewy, dry and tastes like chewing gum. (I spit it out) The waiter will push you to buy a tomahawks steak also so beware of that. Could have been five stars with better service. To be honest the food was so good it was distracting on how long every interaction with the server took. We were sat and not spoken to for 13 minutes. My first time there. A generous pour of wine. I had the sausage with a side of collard greens and mashed potatoes. I thought it was delicious and I'm not even a big fan of barbecue! We wanted to try something different on a Sunday night so we ordered takeout via their ToastTab app. The service was friendly and someone kindly brought it out to our car when it was ready. (Being careful with our youngest's auto immune disease). We tried hush puppies, frito pie, 1/2 chicken plate, rib plate, and pulled pork plate with mild bbq sauce and sides of collard greens, mac n cheese, beans, and cole slaw. We were blown away by the food! The meat was tender and moist and perfectly seasoned, we loved the mild bbq sauce accompanying each plate. Ironically, we had ribs in a bbq box last weekend from John Howie and those were fine but these ones were amazing! The chicken had taken on the flavor of the brine and wish we had ordered another serving. The pulled pork was delicious as well just a wee bit greasy. In terms of the sides--would recommend them all. The collard greens had a nice vinegar kick, the cole slaw was crunchy but wasn't overlaiden with mayo, the mac n cheese was creamy, and the beans were nicely balanced and not overly sweet. While COVID continues, this will become one of our new take out spots but hope to visit for dine in once life goes back to normal. read more

If you want some Texas style BBQ, Jack's is definitely the go-to spot in Seattle! At this location, you can also get a pit tour if you want to check out the smokers! My friend and I tried the picnic platter, pecan pie, and loaded nachos with brisket. The picnic platter was a sight to behold! And it's a lot of food!! The smokiness from the meats is so pronounced, but not bitter at all. The smoke ring on the ribs and brisket is unreal. I appreciate that Jack seasons with salt, pepper, and a little brown sugar to keep the focus on the meat. There's BBQ sauce if you want them (original or spicy). Each of the sides were great too but I liked the coleslaw the most. They dress it with a remoulade that has an extra kick compared to a traditional mayo dressing. The pecan pie is delicious! We love Jacks! We typically stop by after a stressful trip to Costco and get some solid BBQ. Today was no different, and we stopped by to a very busy Jack's. The parking lots were full and the tables were as well! We were able to sit right down though. They were suuuuper busy, and our server who was also the bartender was slinging drinks out and waiting tables so kudos to her. To our surprise, our waiter ended up being the boss man Jack himself! He was very friendly and grabbed us drinks and our food order. It was nice to chat with him about his recent vacation and about the restaurant! It's really nice to see an owner actually walking around helping his staff out where he can. You can tell he cares and is very passionate about his food! Food wise - we've been to Jacks probably 5-6 times but this is the first time I've had the chicken. It was amazing and would totally recommend! Their creamed corn is also one of my favorites! Disappointed and Won't Be Returning As a Texas native, I was really hoping Jack's BBQ would offer a solid taste of home. Unfortunately, this visit was incredibly disappointing from start to finish--both in food quality and service. Food: The brisket was dry, tough, and tasted like it had been reheated in a microwave. I had to drown it in sauce just to get through it without feeling like I was chewing on cotton. I've had better brisket from frozen dinners, and that's not an exaggeration. The chili was more of a spicy soup--mostly liquid with very little meat--and the cornbread, while decent in flavor, was served cold like the rest of the meal. We ordered the peach cobbler to go, but what we got was just peaches in syrup. No crust, no crumble--just a container of sweet canned fruit. It didn't feel like care was put into anything that came out of the kitchen. Service: Michael, our waiter, was friendly but completely inattentive. It took over 15 minutes just to get our drink order taken, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. Our appetizer never showed up, and he didn't realize until I pointed it out. Refills? Never offered. He got our dessert order wrong and never followed up to fix it. Other staff had to step in just to help us get what we ordered. We were there for nearly 2.5 hours, most of it spent waiting for things that never came. I still left a tip because I've worked in restaurants before and try to give grace, but this felt like the bare minimum in hospitality. This was my third visit, and sadly, each time has been worse than the last. I won't be coming back. If you're in Seattle and looking for authentic Texas-style BBQ--keep looking. Great food, great service fantastic atmosphere! I called in to place an order only to be met with a happy to help you voice! She was engaging and knowledgeable of the menu. I told her I would be in, in 20 minutes and I got there in 30. I love the smell of BBQ joints that smell like wood smoking meat. I got a pound of ribs, half of chicken, half pound of brisket, half pound of pulled pork, a bowl of chili and a hot link. I had friends help me critique each piece and every single piece received a 5-star. The chicken isn't always mentioned but the smoke really stood out. The chili was good and to each his own. Jack's ranking should be number one, best in the PNW! I've sampled BBQ in the UK, St. Louis, Chicago, Maryland and Oklahoma. My favorites are Little Miss BBQ in Arizona and Jacks in the PNW. I decided to try it myself today and my meal double confirmed that this guy doesn't realize he had a good thing even when it was right in front of him. I guess I just don't get the hype. We got the hush puppies to start, dry and super dense. We also got 2 orders of the picnic for 4. The pulled pork was amazing, super tender, had nice flavor, not overpowering, the meat really shined through. The chicken was super dry, barely touched it on both orders to be honest. The sausage was okay, a little spicy, pretty salty. The pork ribs were they were melting off the bone but super salty and not super good. The brisket was overdone and super tough. Sides were mediocre, collard greens were yummy, tender, definitely one of the better sides. The mac and cheese was bland and just blah. Caviar beans and ranch beans were both yummy! 07/18/2021 I've made competition brisket for years. Every brisket lover knows that magical sensation of a perfectly smoked brisket. The simple seasoning of prime beef, salt and pepper and smoke all combine to be the best thing one could ever make and eat. 1) The 1 thin jagged slice of sloppily sliced brisket wasn't smoked at all. I will say that again, it was never in a smoker. I really mean that. The slight pink comes from a light dusting of pink salt which is a nitrite that preserves meat over time. This can give the appearance of a smoke ring. But it cannot give the taste of true smoke ring, ever. The brisket is at best, slow roasted in a low oven for hours. Normal home cooks all know that experience already know the feeling of spending all that money on meat only to have it tastes surprisingly unflavored (the meat steams basically if you don't cook it right). And that's what you experience here too. The bark was primarily salt and not a whisper of black pepper. Just salt. Do not call this central Texas brisket. If you're not going to use real smoke on your beef let your customers know so that you can properly discount their meal. This restaurant is saving money by not using real wood to smoke their meats. This is amateur cooking at its best. Brisket was tender but no flavor or seasoning at all within the meat. If you ignore my review and decide to eat here anyway I highly recommend the sauce to give the food a modicum of flavor. How bad was the lack of smoke on the brisket? Imagine having French fries but they're unsalted. It's tragic, I know. 2) That was the saddest excuse of coleslaw I've ever eaten in my 33 years of life. Wilted, warm and watery. The only seasoning I tasted on it was sadness. Is water a seasoning? The theme of the restaurant is not central Texas BBQ: the theme is lies. I asked for a new set of water glasses because I noticed some soap residue on the inside. Is that central Texas style too, soapy residue? Server: "I have to warn you, the next set of glasses I send you will have etch marks on it because they stack them that way" I asked for a replacement because I thought it looked soapy which is okay but gross. His response was robotic. is that what you tell every diner that comes through here? Why didn't you warn me that I was about to sit down and have a mediocre meal ? 2 stars. 2 stars because Jack's Bbq thinks they can get away by half-assing a beef brisket. Any rating or review that is higher than 2 stars is a delusional dim witted diner with no sense of respect for real honest BBQ. You know, the reviewers that's only interested with having Yelp elite status than giving two about the food. Fair warning, my other yelp reviews aren't all negative. They come stacked like that . Final verdict : Decent mac and cheese Decent ribs 30$ paid | Come here for the world's best OVEN BAKED central Texas style brisket with no smoke. It's funny to see a no smoking sign in the dining section due to RCW codes when really there's no smoking going on anywhere in and around the restaurant. At all. Please don't let these photos fool you. The food looked so appetizing when they set it down, we jumped all over it before we remembered to take a photo. We ordered the picnic platter w/ an extra pound of ribs, thinking the platter wasn't enough for the 5 of us. We had just about 1/2 of ribs left over, so we definitely over ordered but did our best to finish our meal. Firstly, the brisket was so tender, it came apart as if it wanted to be consumed by me. The brisket would probably be my favorite followed by the sausage links. Very taster with the right amount of snap and spice when you bite into it. The ribs were dry seasoned and very delicious. The chicken was also very tender when you cut into it however the brisket definitely stole the show for me. For sides we ordered cornbread, Mac and cheese, and coleslaw. The cornbread was the dry crumble version which I didn't expect. The coleslaw was surprisingly flavorful, it was my friends favorite side. But their Mac and cheese was a good compliment to the dry meats, this would be my preferred side out of the 3. They have 2 BBQ Sauces, hot and regular. I think the seasoning on the ribs or the sauce could've had more of a kick to entertain my palate. The staff were nice and the food was good but if I could give it 4.5 stars, I would simply from the lack of heat in their flavor. But the staff deserve the 5 star round up. Walking into this restaurant gives the feeling that you're walking into a Texas BBQ joint. They have long tables for large families, large smokers in the back, and the amazing smell travels! There were four of us so it made sense to get the Picnic For 4 ($65) which allowed us to try a little bit of everything on their menu. We got to try their ribs, brisket, chicken, sausage, and pulled pork. We also got to pick four sides so we ordered the mac n cheese, cole slaw, potato salad, and Texas caviar. My favorite meats were the sausage (specifically the cheddar/jalapeño one) and the ribs. I loved the cheese and the jalapeño added a little bit of a kick. I can taste the smokiness on the ribs and they were fall off the bone. My favorite sides were the mac n cheese and the potato salad. I wish they had a couple more BBQ sauces for us to try but there was only one spicy and one non-spicy one. The Picnic For 4 allowed us to try different meats but if I came back I'd probably get The Texas Trinity ($27) which is brisket, ribs, and sausage along with two sides since I liked those the most. read more

Came here on Thursday with my co-worker because they only serve ribs on Thursday's. Let me tell you, I've only eaten at another place that had killer ribs and that was in Cali, the place is called Houston's. You get one huge rib here and it was well worth it, the bone came right off and the meat was so tender. It was delicious. I also ordered the corn pudding and the Mac and cheese. Not impressed with the Mac but the pudding, which is not the same texture as pudding, was good. I also ordered the pecan pie and it was ok but no ok for $7. The service was on point and the ambience was chill. The bill was $200 with a good tip and that was for two of us. So expect to pay around that for rib night for two.
