We reserved a table for a special honeymoon dinner between the Christmas and New Year holidays. From the moment we stepped inside it was an amazing experience! The hostesses were very kind and even though it was very busy we were seated within a reasonable timeframe. Having worked in the service industry, specifically fine dining, I really like how they have a special set menu for parties of 6 or more, thus ensuring their kitchen doesn't end up with long ticket times. Also, the menu has some excellent dry humor about medium + steak temps!Our server, Auroura, was fabulous! She acknowledged we were celebrating our honeymoon and brought us a little bubbly to start things off. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms, a smoked old fashioned for my husband and she made a wine recommendation for me. The mushrooms were outstanding! We then both ordered steaks, an 8oz filet for me and a 12 oz bone in filet for my husband along with potatoes au gratin and creamed spinach. Even though we were more than full with leftovers packed our server insisted we have a dessert to go for later and brought us a slice of cheese cake. The roasted garlic is amazing - soft, sweet, irresistible, addictive and now something we do pretty often at home. The steaks are phenomenal - juicy, perfectly seared. We arrived a little early for our reservations on Christmas Eve. The staff was definitely overwhelmed with the crowd, but they were kind and professional. I was prepared to wait awhile, but we were seated at our reservation time. We started with bread and oil and drinks (Negroni and God Father). The bread was fresh and delicious and the drinks were terrific. Then we ordered salads. My husband always gets excited to see anchovies on a Ceasar salad. These were optional, of course, but well appreciated. I had the Italian salad. We eat out at fine dining restaurants quite often and we both agreed these were two of the best salads we've ever had. We then had the bone marrow. It was overcooked and dry, unfortunately. We've had this happen before at another restaurant and know that it's easy to dry out. Any other day we would have sent it back, but not on Christmas Eve. We both had steaks for dinner. My husband had the special, a 16 oz boneless strip and I enjoyed an 8 ounce filet with blue cheese. We loved how the steaks came out pre sliced and could immediately see they were cooked perfectly. We shared au gratin potatoes, which were delicious and a perfect side to share. We were stuffed but proceeded with the bananas foster cheesecake and a creamy espresso martini. Both were phenomenal. There was live music, likely because it was a holiday. The 75 fillet was so cold and tasteless and the strip was fatty. The thing good was the fries! They offered a creme brûlée for our bad food which we accepted however it took a while as we were ready to leave they brought it, and It was warm! And with too much of the sugar Brûlée! We checked online and saw open reservations, even called, but never received a response. So, we drove over to see what the issue was--only to be told they were fully booked. To make matters worse, the hosts laughed in my face and told me to "try next time." No effort was made to accommodate us. As a fairly new restaurant, I would expect better business etiquette. My husband and I run a business ourselves, and we know the customer should always come first. I left feeling truly disappointed, because we were excited to try this place and give it a chance. I have given Jack's higher reviews, but I think I'm ready to be a little more critical and tell how I feel. So, they were very accommodating with my reservation for my husband's birthday dinner but don't do reservations at the bar and you can't stand at the while there is only one seat. So, we ended up sitting at a high top by the kitchen, which was pretty cramped, but it was in the bar. I ordered my usual Vieux Care but the bartender had never heard of it nor had any idea how to make it. Eventually she got it right. (When Tiffany was there, she always had one waiting for us! We ended up having to talk to her a couple times and spell it out for her. That being said, the service was pretty good. My grief was with the food. I was extremely disappointed with the 4 ounce fillet. I know it's small, but it is ridiculous to get four tiny little sliced pieces of meat that was cold by the time it made it to the table. I cannot even believe it was pre-sliced. My husband's bone in strip was pretty good but was lukewarm and soaked with so much butter that it drowned out the steak, in my opinion. The lyonnaise potatoes were French fries with cheese on top. They were not at all what we expected. $54 for 4oz of filet and three tiny carrots was a hard for me to swallow. Literally! Also, I was disappointed that we didn't receive a birthday dessert. It was well known that it was Dan's birthday Saturday but nothing. For spending over $300 for two, you would think they could spare a slice of pie or something. Anyway, that wasn't what matters at the end of the day. What matters was the food and service that was just not up to par that night. Also, there is no dress code even though they have one! Guys in gym shorts and ladies in sweats just showed no class. This place is spectacular. Great ambiance. It's Texas Hill Country meets NYC Italian steakhouse. Think Dean Martin, deer heads, cowboy hats and Martinis.
