We've eaten at Jack's Chophouse several times now, and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is one of the things we love most about the place. It feels like stepping into a New York City chophouse--vibrant, warm, friendly, and just a great place to have dinner. The staff has always been fantastic, and last night was no exception. Our server was attentive, helpful, and never missed a beat. The bartender was fantastic as well. And the food? Exceptional. Without question, the best steak anywhere around this area. My wife and I split the New York strip, our buddy had the ribeye, and his wife had the lasagna. We shared the au gratin potatoes and Brussels sprouts at the table. My wife and I started with a wedge salad, and our friends split the Caprese salad. Everything was absolutely delicious. Jack's has become one of our favorite places in Fredericksburg. If you're visiting the area and looking for a great steakhouse and a great evening out, I highly recommend it. Five stars from us.

We had a nice anniversary dinner at Jacks Chophouse. Love the look of the establishment. It's the typical older home in Fredericksburg that was turned into a restaurant. Our server, Brian, was very attentive. We went with the rib eye and the shrimp scampi for our entrees and the stuffed mushrooms and the calamari for the appetizers. We ordered way too much but we enjoyed every bite! We finished our dinner with a banana foster which was delicious! This is definitely a place worth checking out when in Fredericksburg.

Let me say this place gets packed and for a good reason. Take a look at the pick. The ribeye was on a bed of garlic. It was cooked to perfection medium as always! The potatoes were finely sliced. The brussel sprouts were crispy. Great atmosphere with great food! Oh customer service was fantastic!

Elegant dining in Fredericksburg. Located on Main Street a little bit off the beaten path, this is a great dining establishment unlike many of the others in town. They encourage more Formal which is refreshing in a town where most restaurants invite casual. We were on time for our reservation, but waited a few minutes in their small waiting area. The hostess/manager had a bit of a school principal attitude, but overall was pleasant. We were seated in a small room amongst several other tables, but still felt intimate. The lighting is a bit on the dark side, but the candles bring out a great atmosphere. A violinist and cello created a romantic feeling (Enchanted Rock Orchestra Strolling Duo). We started with cocktails, which were crafted beautifully. The menu has old classics as well as innovative ones. For the appetizers, we had the focaccia bread which was delicious as well as the stuffed mushrooms which were delicately made and quite tasty. The wine list is short but encompasses Old world and New World wines. My wife had a Bordeaux while I had a Tuscany blend. Both delicious. For our entrées, we shared the filet mignon with peppercorn sauce with candied brussels sprouts and hand whipped mashed potatoes as sides. The food was surprisingly delicious, well presented and portioned. We truly enjoyed our entrées. For dessert we had the bananas foster cheesecake. Unique, not too sweet, delicious ending. If you come to Fredericksburg, definitely try this restaurant. You will enjoy the experience, the ambience and most definitely the food.

Ribeye soaked in butter - tender yet lacked flavor

Friendly, attentive staff, but the food was lackluster and their reservation process would keep me from visiting again. - Ordered the 10 oz Wagyu steak special for $120 and it was a bland, neutral flavor. Wagyu should taste highly flavorful! - Mashed potatoes were authentic, yet also bland and lacked flavor. - Great cocktails and wine options. - Very limited space inside. It's difficult to walk to the bar or bathroom without running into multiple people, so if you prefer spacious areas, lookup pics of this place first! - Charging around $20 per person to book a reservation (refunded at check-in) and being unable to change a reservation the day before, even when the restaurant still shows availability, is ridiculous. I've visited tiny islands where the locals truly depend on tourism for every dollar of their livelihood, so you can't tell me this restaurant needs to charge for reservations to survive. I've never experienced this anywhere as a frequent traveler! - I respect their strict NO ball caps policy, but it was odd that my husband and I had a large naked Marilyn Monroe portrait on the wall for our main view. That's not exactly classy either!

Excellent customer service, drinks, and food. We went to celebrate my birthday and they had a sign at the table saying happy birthday,, cute touch! We started with the focaccia bread will roasted garlic dipping oil, it was good. We both got the 8 oz filets. I had mine with the peppercorn sauce and added the shrimp and my hubby had the chimicurri sauce on the sauce. Both sauces complemented the steaks nicely and the shrimp were huge! We got mashed potatoes to share as well. They brought me the crème brûlée as a complimentary dessert for my birthday, it was very good, but I was still stuffed from dinner. If you are in the area and looking for a nice steak dinner, go give them your business.

Wow what a beautiful ambiance inside, I love all of the black and white photos of different celebrities. There wasn't a wait whenever we came and we didn't have a reservation, however I could see this place getting busy. For an appetizer we had the Bada Bing Calamari and the sauce it's tossed in tastes very similar to orange chicken, very different than any calamari I've tried before. My sister ordered the sliders and said they were cooked really well. I got the Lemon Chicken Scallopini and wow the flavor is incredible plus the chicken was battered perfectly. I wish the potatoes were a bit crispier, however the flavor was on point. Highly recommend for a date night because of the beautiful interior or even to celebrate a special occasion.

This place was incredible--easily one of my top ten dining experiences ever. From the moment we walked up, even being greeted by a server coming in from the patio, to the warm welcome from the hostess and staff as we entered and were seated, it felt as though we were being invited into someone's home. Amanda started by bringing out a complimentary tomato and mozzarella appetizer, and she continued to be an attentive, friendly server who made the experience even better. The Parmesan trout was outstanding, and the ribeye arrived on a sizzling hot plate, bathed in melted butter--absolutely unforgettable. And the mashed potatoes? I wish I could have those at Thanksgiving. The Mulberry Street Tartufo Sundae was enjoyed by my husband and was definitely large enough for two to three people--he even took some home. My only disappointment was the crème brûlée; the top didn't "crack" as expected and instead had a thick, chewy layer that I ended up not eating. Overall, this is a wonderful spot for a special occasion or anytime you're in the mood for a nicer evening out. Definitely $$$$

Came here on a random weekend. The good: Our waitress was very friendly and polite. It's a cute restaurant with a lot of JFK memorabilia. The not so good: Ordered a rib eye and I really think they gave us a strip. There was no marbling and it was extremely tough and very difficult to chew. The texture and taste was more like a strip than a ribeye. If it actually was the rib eye, it is the toughest ribeye I've ever had. The flavor was good though (and had a very beefy taste like a strip). Ordered medium rare and it was cooked correctly (medium rare) so that's good. FYI it is pre-sliced. The hamburger was probably the dryest hamburger I've had in my life. It was ordered medium rare and it came out well done like a leather shoe. It even crumbled apart because it was so dry. I added bacon and even the bacon was dry! I have no idea what happened. Fries were good though. Trout was a little dry and bland. It was fresh though. Asked for a side of any kind of sauce they had. They brought out bernaise sauce (extra $4 charge on the bill) The food took an incredibly long time to come out. I think we waited for an hour. I really wanted to like this place, especially since our waitress was great but I won't come back and don't recommend this place. The food didn't hit the mark. They also charge a 3% credit card processing fee so that was fun. Everything was $212 with 22% tip.

We had a wonderful experience for a special occasion dinner. When we arrived for our reservation, we were offered a complimentary glass of wine while they prepared our table. This was such a nice touch, and we got to enjoy the artwork and live music as we waited. Our server was very professional and kind, and the service was great all around. Drinks were good, and we really enjoyed the food. The French onion soup, Brussels sprouts, and sliced potatoes were all delicious. The steaks were huge! They were tasty and cooked well, but there were quite a few gristly pieces in both steaks we ordered. This wasn't a big deal for us since the portions are so huge, you could just eat around them. Next time we might order a fish or pasta and steak to share. I do think this is one of the best places to eat in Fredericksburg. We had a very good experience, and the service and ambiance is what makes the restaurant stand out. Our server brought a complimentary dessert over for our special occasion and even brought the live band over to sing a snippet of a song for us. It was special and we will definitely be back.

Everything went well! We had a lackluster anniversary dinner the evening before and this place definitely made up for it. The ambience was relaxed and inviting. We were sat near the front to the side of the bar. It was a busy spot and not the most romantic, but this was easily overlooked by the live instrumental music, a violinist and bassist were a welcoming touch. They helped set the mood. On our table was a plaque recognizing our 25th anniversary celebration, which was a nice touch. Our waitress immediately approached us, welcomed us, and congratulated us. She was engaging and on her game the entire evening. For drinks, I ordered the NY Sour and my partner a glass of Decoy red wine. They were promptly brought to us. Our waitress gave us breathing room to enjoy our drinks before placing our order. While doing so, the hostess came by and lit our candle. When we were finally ready to order, the decision was simple. We were lucky enough to be there on T-bone Thursdays. The meal consisted of an 18 Oz pre-cut T-bone with mashed potatoes and glazed carrots. Plenty for us to share. It was amazing. Since our go-to steak is usually ribeye, we had not had a T-bone in quite a while, and it was worth the wait. One of the better steaks we have ever had, seasoned well and cooked perfectly medium rare. The potatoes were solid, but shown up by the carrots. Even sharing it, we could not finish it, especially once we were told we would be given a complimentary cheesecake. Might I add, one of the creamiest and most flavorful ones ever. We had no choice but to make room for it. Everything about Jack's screamed NY except for the attitudes. Everyone was friendly. I highly recommend them, and make sure to ask about its history while there.

I've been to Jack's a few times and had great experiences, but I felt like this past time there were a few things that you would want to know when making a resolution: 1. they are having some air-conditioning issues so the room that is next to the bar is exceptionally cold. When making your reservation I would ask to be seated in one of the other rooms. 2. I feel like every restaurant does their steak temperatures a little different, which is totally fine. But sometimes I feel like having a reference point helps you know how you might want to order. So I attached a picture of medium rare. In my opinion, if you are between to choices, maybe pick the upper one.

They gave me a complementary cheesecake for my birthday. SUPER YUMMY!

Had the small steak during a crowded happy hour on a Sunday night. It was superb, as was the NY cheesecake, which I've been looking for. Amanda C made sure we were well taken care of. The restaurant is so cute with an old Italian ambiance. The food was all fantastic. I don't think you could go wrong with any steak or side. The chopped salad has a thick dressing with balsamic that is wonderfully different. Kyle was our server and his knowledge of the menu and the area was so helpful. All of his suggestions were good and we even found a new wine to try. Discovered this local treasure during a work trip. EXCELLENT! The ambiance was perfect for a date night. A lovely couple was playing the cello and violin during the evening. The food was AMAZING! We dined last evening for our anniversary. We have been there 4 times prior and have always experienced great food and service. Last evening was an exception. After we were seated, we waited over 10 minutes before we were served water. People coming after us were already served. When the server arrived at our table she asked if we would like something from the bar We told her we need a menu first. After we received the bread we noticed my wife did not have a napkin We had to ask 3 separate people before the bartender finally brought us one. When our salad arrived, we saw the server assistant had removed all my wife's silverware, so I had to share mine. My wife's chicken scallopini was excellent, my dish was disappointing. I should have asked more specifics. I thought I was getting a 6 ounce filet (as I have ordered in the past). Instead I got bland, slightly warm medallions. Despite the disappointment, the server, Megan, was very courteous. After we had paid the bill, a server assistant brought 4 folded napkins and placed them on our table. Oh well, it was probably just an off night for us, but we will come back. read more

Nice ambiance. Food disappointing.you would think as a steakhouse they could cook your steak to perfection. Wife's was overcooked mine under cooked from how we ordered it. Never a good time when out for a nice evening one is eating while the other one waits for their meal to be sent back, then watch you eat when they are done. Come on "medium" at a steakhouse shouldn't be that hard to accomplish. Order the carrots as one of the sides, then find out the garnish with my steak was carrots! (They didn't charge us for them when I complained but missed the opportunity to have a different side.). A disappointing $200+ dinner. read more

I just wanted to start up with saying the bread and butter is a great appetizer. I wish we would've gotten the dip that they had but we only got butter. The appetizers we got the calamari and the spicy pickles that were on top was honestly a very pleasant surprise I was not expecting that. My boyfriend loved the wedge salad. It looked really good, but I'm just not a wedge person. Also, we got a porterhouse steak with creamed, spinach and mushrooms and onions and oh my gosh this is one of the best meals I've had in a really long time. They surprised me with a cheesecake with sparklers on it for my 30th birthday and I absolutely loved everything about our dinner as well as the Drinks. Service was phenomenal as well. read more

OMG! Don't sleep on this place!! I had the "purple" ribeye. It was OUTSTANDING. Literally the best I've had in a long time. Side of asparagus was meh. Didn't need to order. My friend got the lemon chicken scallopini and loved! She highly recommends!! Her hubby got the chicken Parm and said it was literally the "best ever"!!! Hubby got bone-in filet. Overcooked. Great atmosphere, stellar food, everything was cooked perfectly and Kyle gave us excellent and friendly service while maintaining an elegance and professionalism. We had the ribeye, roasted carrots, the wedge, whipped ricotta and the baked potato casserole! For anyone in the area, this place is romantic but not stuffy and gives a lovely sense of old world charm meets classic steakhouse. We loved it! read more

We celebrated my birthday with friends after hearing Radney Foster perform. The table wasn't quite ready, as other people were enjoying their evening as well. Visiting from out of state and made the best choice for dinner! Greeted right away by our server Kyle who did an amazing job from start to finish. He was very detail oriented and extremely attentive. Kyle gave us great recommendations and everything was delicious! We would highly recommend and would come again when we are back in town. read more

Jacks Chophouse in fredericksburg was a great on our second visit as it was on our first. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We sat at the bar for drinks and dinner and met new people, then ended up going to listen to live music with them. My husband and I split the 16oz ribeye, which was cooked to perfection. The creamed spinach complimented the steak. Make sure you try the old fashion (my husband's favorite) and the chappaquiddick. I can't pronounce it but it was outstanding. Came in on a Monday, pretty lively crowd. Enjoyed the happy hour menu which included a variety of options. The calamari is crisp and tasty. Meatballs are flavorful. Friendly staff. Parking is easy out front. I appreciate the historic pictures and romantic lighting. Was recommended by our wine tasting specialist at Grape Creek. Would consider coming again for a snack. read more

The ambiance and service were very good. And the meal started off good with bread and an appetizer of meatballs. The meal fell apart on the entrees. I ordered the filet and my husband ordered the strip steak. They were terrible cuts of meat with no flavor. It was definitely a big disappointment especially at that price point. read more

Wow , sure want this place to work but the dreaded "but". My wife and I, and our grown daughter went to Jacks(2nd visit) for an early Christmas Eve dinner . Had reservations but obviously, the new staff(waitress, kitchen, etc.) were not prepared. Took way too long to get drinks and appetizers . Waitress was nice enough(Ali) but didn't have a good support group . Got drinks ,apps and entree in a staggered fashion . In other words, got 2 of 3 drinks , 3 of 4 apps, and 2 of 3 entrées but not all at the normal "same time" . Made for a bit awkward eating pace . 1 app was served cold when it needed to be(& was) much tastier when served hot . Just little things that do add up . It was very quiet in the front of the house yet we all noticed music being played toward the rear of the place . Duh ! Someone forgot to turn the speakers on up front . Little things that occurred throughout the evening meal . Others in the restaurant had a similar experience after talking with them . Really , we want and need a Great Steakhouse here in the 'burg but I'm going to have to take a raincheck on eating with y'all for awhile. Besides , for what you charge , it ought to be "spot on ". I ordered the clam and mussel pot, which I found surprisingly bland, though the bread was delicious. The rest of my group seemed to enjoy their meals much more than I did. Unfortunately, there were also some cleanliness concerns. A spider descended from the ceiling onto our table during dinner, and another bug crawled across the table. There was even a bug zapper in the corner of the restaurant that seemed to be going off constantly throughout our meal. For a party of seven, our bill came to around $700. Given the overall experience, the food quality, and the atmosphere, it felt a bit underwhelming for the price.

No appetizers on the menu but a decent selection of entrees so no issues there. I order the NY strip with grilled Brussel sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes. I'll start with the positive - the steak was ordered medium-rare and it was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, there was just very very little flavor or seasoning to the steak - it wasn't bad but I wouldn't order it again. The Brussel sprouts were huge - and I expected they would be 'hard' in the center (as often happens with larger Brussel sprouts) but I was pleasantly surprised that they were perfectly cooked and tender. Unfortunately they were also very under seasoned. One of them had an oil or seasoning on it and it was delicious but the rest had none and lacked flavor. The garlic mashed potatoes were the highlight! Potato skins in them; nice rich and smooth texture and perfectly flavored. Best part of the meal! We also tried the steak tacos which had thin strips of steak in corn tortillas with corn, a sauce and cilantro and came with black beans and rice. The strips of steak were excellent - slightly charred (perfectly) on the outside and flavorful. The sauce had a wonderful flavor to it. The tortillas were very soft and moist. The tacos were very good. The black beans were black beans and the rice was rice - neither were bad and neither were great - no special flavor. Would we come back? If we were staying at the property again we might go back. The convenience is their main selling point. That said, Main Street in Fredericksburg with literally dozens of restaurants is only 3 minutes away. If The Club could 'up' their seasoning, they would certainly be worthy of 4 stars.

I recently celebrated my 30th birthday at Jack's Chophouse, and unfortunately, my experience started on a very sour note. I had a reservation set since December 3rd for a 7pm seating, and arrived promptly at 6:40pm, but the welcome we received was anything but warm. The hostess immediately made us feel unwelcome with her rude demeanor. From eye rolls to suggesting we ask the party at our table to leave ourselves, her attitude was downright hostile. She denied us the chance to order cocktails at the bar while we waited--despite seeing other guests being allowed to do so. They said the bar area was "first come first serve" yet when we said we'd wait, "there was a list". Made no sense. To make matters worse, she was enforcing the dress code on men wearing ball caps, yet failed to enforce the 90-minute dining window listed on the website for the party currently seated at our table. If you're going to have rules that are blatantly listed on the site, you have to enforce all of them. Not just one. It was an incredibly frustrating start to what should've been a special evening, and I was left in disbelief as I wrote this review two days later. Thankfully, the manager recognized the situation and stepped in with kindness, offering us drinks while we waited. Once we were finally seated around 7:45, things improved. Our server was wonderful, attentive, and the food was delicious, which helped salvage the night. While the food and wait service were top-notch, the treatment we received from the hostess was beyond disappointing, and I'm honestly unsure if I would return. It's not difficult to be respectful and accommodating, especially in a situation like this. A positive and friendly attitude from her could have had us all feeling much different. All I wanted was a pleasant experience to celebrate my milestone birthday, but instead, we had to endure an uncomfortable and, frankly, unnecessary level of hostility from her. Professional crooks. When you walk into what looks like a respectable, beautifully decorated place, you don't expect to be scammed--especially not when you're out for a nice Saturday dinner. Neither did my wife and I. We ordered a burrata, a 38 oz tomahawk steak, and a bottle of expensive wine. What could go wrong, right? It started with a classic bait-and-switch. We were offered a 40% discount on certain wines from the list. Two minutes after we ordered, the waitress came back and said they had "just sold the last bottle," so we had to pick another one--much more expensive, of course. The steak arrived just 10 minutes after the order--while we were still eating our starter. The manager (Mike) came to apologize and said the burrata would be on the house. Here's where we made a mistake: instead of returning the steak, we decided to eat it. You don't want to ruin the evening, right? And Mike seemed so nice... It was a disaster. Dry and tasteless, drowned in garlic butter. Nothing like what you'd expect from allegedly 60-day aged meat. And a 38 oz tomahawk? You'd think that's a lot of meat. "Serves 2-4," they said. "It'll be great," they said... Not at this place. It was mostly a huge bone with barely enough meat for two. But the real kicker was the bill. This is where Jack's Chophouse went from cheating to straight-up lying: - The steak was $198 instead of $172 as listed on their website - The wine we were served was not the wine we were billed for (unfortunately, I noticed too late) - A 3% credit card surcharge was added without warning - And the tip? How much is 20% of $455? You'd think $91, right? Wrong. According to Jack, it's $107.60! JUST WOW!!! As a hospitality professional, I'm very hard to impress, but I can tell you EVERYTHING about Jacks is 5 stars. When we arrived at our table, I was blown away that there was a little framed placecard with my name on it - what a WOW arrival experience! This attention to detail is mirrored throughout the dining experience. The service is just impeccable. Our server was the assistant manager (Can't remember her name) and she was incredibly on-point, so polished and sharp, intuitive. The menu is perfect: simple things executed perfectly. Drinks are just outstanding. All of the servers are on their game, moving all night to the same music, out of the same playbook. If you enjoy fine dining a lot like I do, you learn to really appreciate these nuances and respect the craft and the hustle. The food was mindblowing. I'll start with the steak (petite filet) - it was so tender, so perfectly seasoned, I just looked at my friend who was enjoying the same dish and we just stared at each other in awe. Another wow factor was the half clove of roasted garlic - never seen that!! A sumptuous, and yet incredibly simple, touch. Don't even get me started on the wedge salad. During our recent anniversary trip to Fredericksburg, we were eager to dine at a renowned steakhouse, having previewed their enticing menu and ambiance online. Arriving ten minutes before our reservation, we were promptly checked in by the hostess, who mistakenly noted a table for four instead of two--a sign of potential disorganization. There are a plethora of things that I could rave about, but I'll stick to the top three. 1. The warm welcome we received from Laurie when we walked in was greatly appreciate. She was so warm and immediately made my family feel at home. She also took the time to check on us during our meal. 2. The impeccable service - truly top tier!! Kyle took the extra time to go over our options in detail and made sure we understood all of the delicious options that were available. He also checked on our food and our satisfaction with the meals and was very charming. He also has great attention to detail. My niece did not like the first drink she ordered, so he asked her what her favorite flavors were and brought something for her to try and she LOVED it. Honestly, everything was absolutely amazing. I was thoroughly pleased with the food and service, I just had to come here on Yelp (and the Google Review) to express my appreciation. My girlfriend and I work in fine dining - namely, Fleming's in the Domain at Austin - so we know good service when we see it. Kyle, our server, was excellent; I mean top tier service! He demonstrated an extensive knowledge of the menu, and even gave us the lore behind the owner, how he personally procured the items on the menu for his friends and family in New York during his tenure as a senator. We had the burrata and focaccio as an appetizer, and split the 6 ounce filet with patata al forno as our entree. For dessert, we had the crème brûlée and a complimentary cheesecake gifted to us for our 1 year anniversary. And the general manager, Mike, ensured everything was up to par. We had an incredible experience at Jack's Chophouse. First, before we got there the hostess was very patient with me calling 3 times to see if an earlier reservation became available. It did not so we went ahead waiting for our 8 pm reservation. It was definitely worth the wait! The hostess took us right to our table which was in a cozy little room with great ambiance. It was very Italian Steakhouse meets the old west. Loved it. The waitress was awesome. She timed everything very well and we never felt rushed but we also never felt abandoned. She was just paying attention. She was also funny and classy. Our drinks were delicious. I had the Monroe, one of their signature cocktails. We got a few apps, salads and then split the tomahawk. OMG!!! Best one I've ever had. Great wine list too and we went with the Austin Hope Cab. We couldn't handle dessert after all of that but we will definitely be going back. Walked in on an apparently fully booked night but was treated to excellent service by the hostess who grabbed me and my friend a drink while she claimed seats at the bar for us. The atmosphere and ambiance is killer, took me 30 minutes to realize the Sinatra playing in the background was a 20 something year old signing live because he was that good. The Chef, Evan, recommended the T-Bone and the smoked honey old fashioned..... best old fashioned in the state. Easy. The steak was to die for, perfectly cooked, and had amazing flavor. The real winner was the apps however, the Bada Bing Kung Pow Calamari and the bone marrow app was out of this world and everyone else at the bar followed suit after watching me and my friend devour them. Excellent recommendations by the Chef and it was awesome to see that the Chef and the manager made time to touch tables even on such a busy night. I arrived, after a long drive, around dinner time on a Wednesday a couple weeks ago. I don't get to Fredericksburg often, but when I do, I get cleaned up and head to Jack's Chophouse. Nice crowd about 7:30 or 8:00. We just wanted something light, so we went straight to the bar, where Tiffany recognized me and said "I have your coffee martini you responded to on our FaceBook page!" I had posted that next time I was in town, that she should save me one! What a great way to start an evening! Only at Jack's. Dinner was exceptional. We had the Brussels sprouts, the broccolini rabe, (we love their veggies), the Lyonaise fries for balance. I am not a blue cheese fan, but the wedge salad made me a convert. And the star of the show was the Fried Burrata. Every time I go my eyes are bigger than my stomach, but it doesn't matter because the food is uniformly excellent and the staff make you feel at home. read more

On a recent business trip to Fredericksburg, TX, I was recommended Jack's Chophouse as a dinner destination. What a recommendation that turned out to be! A cozy and inviting atmosphere and likely the best steak I've ever had. To be fair, I don't consider myself a foodie, but this was easily recognizable as the pinnacle of my dining experiences. The establishment was clean and neat and the staff were friendly and professional. With dinner, I ordered one of Jack's signature drinks, the Churchill, and just like the meal the drink was first class. The bar and drink selection rivals anything I've seen and the bar area was filled with people relaxing, laughing, and socializing. If you're in the area, give Jack's Chophouse a look. It'll provide you with a familiar neighborhood feel with a five star experience. I look forward to getting back there in the near future. read more

I am not a local and it took me 3 visits before I had an opportunity to dine in their restaurant. I have been to my fair share of fine dining establishments but Cabernet Grill operates with an attitude as if they are above and beyond anyone and everyone. They think they're the best and you'll be hard pressed to convince them otherwise. I have family that have dined in Cabernet Grill with friends and their experience was mixed. When a server pours wine, spills it on your shirt and doesn't offer as much as an apology you know you're in for a bumpy ride. My first attempt was denied because we were 30min late to our reservation due to unforeseen circumstances and were turned away immediately. My second attempt was denied because I had my small dog with me at Beckers Vineyards and went straight to our reservation at Cabernet Grill and were told absolutely no dogs allowed. Bear in mind they have an extensive patio area with tons of space that would certainly accommodate a certified emotional support animal. We were told absolutely not. I told my family to stay while I took my dog back to the hotel and the host said all parties must be present during the reservation time. If I were to leave our reservation would be pulled and we would not be allowed to dine in the restaurant. So we left. Fast forward my 3rd attempt and we finally were offered access after complying with all their rules and regulations. At this point one would assume if a restaurant exudes this much attitude from the get-go then surely the food must be the best I've ever experienced certainly the best in Fredericksburg. That could not be further from the truth. For starters they offer an item called Honey Butter Drop Biscuits. They intentionally separated that item into its own section so they could poke a jab towards a food critic from San Antonio by name! Who does that? I have personally never seen a restaurant go so far as to single handily call someone out by name in their own menu because they were not satisfied with their remarks. I would have never known who he was or that he did not approve of the biscuits had they not laid it out point blank for all their guests to see. They have a plethora of wine bottles displayed throughout the restaurant. None of these bottles are designed for consumption. Granted they have an extensive wine menu. However, It's a shame they have chosen to let all the bottles on display go bad just for presentation purposes. I took a light to the inside of some of the display bottles and it's clear they had all turned a long time ago. At this point I'm ordering their 14oz USDA Prime Ribeye and expecting it to blow me away. However, I grew hesitant when the server offered several sauce options to pair with my steak. If the steaks are truly that good a sauce is going to take away from the flavor profile. Yes, the presentation was spot on. Unfortunately the steak did in fact need the sauce. Forgive me for expecting a top quality dry aged ribeye with a buttery complex flavor profile. This was not that. In fact, I could go to my local HEB, pick-up a prepackaged Prime Ribeye and the result would have been the same. That said, the best item I consumed were the grilled vegetables and the rest of my table can concur. The flavor was spot on, the pairings were truly unique making it a standout option from the rest of the meal. Yes, the steak was cooked to perfection but you cannot treat your restaurant to a Michelin Star standard with that level of beef. Cabernet Grill would be so much better off without the excessive attitude and all the hurdles I had to jump through just for an opportunity to dine at the restaurant. Those hurdles create expectations that are simply not met which only results in a level of disappointment that encourages me to look for alternatives while sharing my experience with friends and family that know my recommendations will result in a positive drama free experience. I'm glad I was finally able to experience Cabernet Grill. I'm just sad it did not live up to the expectations because I was genuinely hoping it would. They could learn a thing or two from Mastro's in terms of hospitality and expectations.

We ordered coffee ($3 per cup) and water. We were brought the coffee and waters and we ordered. I had the Huevos Rancheros ($17) and my wife had the Fruit Granola Yogurt ($13). Our food was brought out after a bit and it looked good. However, there were problems with both dishes. My wife's dish, advertised a Greek Yogurt was more like they scooped some Yoplait into the bowl instead. There was some fruit chunks, but not near enough to justify the $13 cost. She said the carved strawberry was the best part of the dish and the granola was good, but certainly did not taste homemade. My dish was barely warm, the beans were way too soupy, and I had asked for over-medium eggs, but they came over easy. I sent it back and told the server the dish was lukewarm and the eggs were not prepared as requested. She quickly came back with another plate that pretty much had the exact same issues. Lukewarm beans and potatoes and over-easy eggs. Rather than send it back again, I ate less than half and called it quits. Our bill came to ~$40 and it was probably worth less than half that. Another tidbit is that we had to ask twice for coffee refills. The place was not really busy either. Not sure why it gets 4+ stars because I struggle with giving it 2. Overall, not worth the price and the quality of the food was lacking. Service was decent, but aside from that it doesn't rate another visit. It can get crowded, but I don't agree with the reviews here that say the restaurant gets too loud. Let's be honest. Fredericksburg has a certain type of demographic and at times I feel they are unfairly nitpicky to the local businesses. When the restaurant is crowded, it's lively and full of smiling faces and servers who are eager to serve and make sure that you enjoy your meal. Restaurant was also clean on our visit and the restrooms were well taken care of. I can't wait to come again for breakfast!
