The French fries were excellent. The young waitress was very busy, but we had our meal in no time. We waited for her to pick up the payment, but another woman took the cash payment. I heard they serve Bravery Brewing beer so I ordered the Rocktoberfest. Still one of my favs! I told Amber that I would be ordering a few items and will be needing to-go boxes to bring home to my Mom (sharing food is my love language). Here's what I ordered: -Pepper Jack Mac & Cheese bites with their homemade ranch -Ahi Tuna sliders -Cubano with homemade chips accompanied by their homemade pepper jack queso dip -Chocolate Croissant Bread Pudding -Pepperoni pizza - to go The Mac & Cheese bites were crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside. The inside had a sharpness to it, I'm assuming from a cheese they used. They were even better dipped in their homemade ranch. Do not leave without trying it!!! Ahi Tuna sliders. You guys.. don't walk, RUN to try these! I think my eyes rolled back in my head when I took my first bite. The tuna was tender, the slaw was crunchy, creamy and citrusy with a slight sweetness. The bun was soft and slightly sweet as well, and the fact that it was toasted, added a nice texture. I'd eat these breakfast, lunch and dinner. And probably for dessert, don't judge me. The Cubano was fantastic! I'm hoping I heard Neil correctly but they marinate the pork in a homemade mojo sauce. That was incredible! The bread was nicely toasted, the ham was smoky, the fontina cheese added a nutty, buttery flavor along with the balance from the crunchy pickles and acidity from the mustard. And the homemade chips with the pepper Jack queso were amazing! The perfect crunch and crispness, salted well and dipped in the creamy queso that had a hint of spice. Oh lawd! Absolute happiness Neil Behrman, the chef, was kind enough to come out and introduce himself. I was lucky enough to have a conversation with him where we shared about our love of cooking, I got to hear about how became a chef, about his Italian grandmother, where he's worked, and how food feeds our soul. I did try one bite from the chocolate croissant bread pudding and oh man, the ooey gooey buttery chocolatey goodness is amazing! FYI.. Both my parents loved and raved about the food! The stone facade of this nearly 100-year old tavern implies major staying power, and the dark wood, very old-style interior design backs that up in spades. This place has seen many days and nights, and the staff seems to have seen every customer many times before. My server, Terry, immediately pegged me as a newbie, greeting me with a big hello and making suggestions about the food. They've got most of the usual roadside tavern options on the menu (burgers and club sandwiches, eggs and omelets, etc.), but the top draw here is the Tri-Tip and Pork Shoulder, both of which are smoked on site, and served as BBQ plates or 2 sizes of sandwiches. I ordered the small Tri-Tip Sandwich, paired with fries (though they have several other side options you can upgrade to). The meat is thinly shaved, moist and tender despite not being pink. It's glazed with teriyaki sauce and resembles the kind of roast beef sandwich you'd get in Buffalo, NY (beef on weck) or at a place like Brennan & Carr in Brooklyn. They also put mayo on the bun, and I could have lived without that (it's not necessary, as the meat is very flavorful, and the smoky accents do stand out nicely). Fries were standard issue, but very properly cooked and salted, arriving hot and crispy. They were great when dipped into the house-made BBQ sauce or the house-made Ranch, both of which came on the side. Over all, the sandwich and fries were a very generous portion, and the larger size (served to someone else nearby) was quite hefty for just $3 more. Now, I didn't see any desserts on display, but I had a feeling this was the kind of place where there might be some homemade sweetness, and I was right -- they had 4 house-baked pies available: Apple, Peach, Cherry, and a mixed berry pie called Fruits Of The Forest, which is what I chose. I could detect cherries, blackberries and rhubarb, but there may have been others in this sweet & sour filling that worked perfectly with the scratch-made crust that was buttery and savory and pretty much a perfect bite from the past. There's also a full bar with a nice selection of liquors and beers. If I didn't have to drive off the mountain and home on I-5, I would have happily spent the afternoon knocking back a few and chatting with the locals, who I'm sure gather here most days after work. This is a fun, fun place, and if you're traveling up the 5, it's worth a detour up the hill to grab some tri-tip and support good people serving the kind of good, scratch cooking you rarely find in a fast food world.

Hearty grub with hints of traditional regional American cuisine and full bar where you will not leave hungry. There's a formal dining room for larger gatherings for families and friends. Great place to eat after scrambling around Vasquez Rocks, visiting Animal Tracks, or just hungry on CA 14 frwy. Just get off the Crown Valley offramp and head due south for about a mile. 1) Wild Game Sausage: Walk On The Wild Side With Jalapeño-Cheddar Stuffed Elk With Roasted Peppers & Onions. Big portion enough for 2 meals since the Elk sausage is so rich. Elk sausage is ground fine and stuffed tightly in the casing for dense, firm texture. You're getting your money's worth. The Jalapeño has a nice, warm piquancy while the Cheddar gives a dairy fermented undertone. The julienned red and green bellpeppers are pleasantly al dente; the onions are caramelized to bring out their sweetness. It's all sautéed in an agrodolce/sweet-sour sauce along with a touch of garlic. 1a) Side dish: Nice little garden salad including green lettuce, diced purple onion, chopped tomato, grated carrot. Chose blue cheese dressing to use for the "Buffalo Burger". 2) "Buffalo Burger" is extra finely ground, plush, velvety Bison meat. So when I ordered it medium rare, the patty turned out mushy. Next time, I will order it medium to firm up and give more of a chaw to the meat. Opted for two slices of not too crispy, meaty bacon. Mayo, tomato, green lettuce leaf, grilled onions, cheddar cheese, dense brioche bun. I spread on the blue cheese dressing to give a little funk to what I thought would be the blood minerality of the Bison meat. It's another substantial dish. 2a) Side dish of standard French fries which was crisp as requested although it didn't quite have that ineffable earthy, mildly sweet, potato flavour 1-2a) Allegiance India Pale Ale, Lancaster CA was a good counter to both food items. Our food came out pretty fast after we ordered. My boyfriend's Ropa Vieja is a Cuban braised beef. The congri is basically a mix of the rice and beans. This dish was super tasty and the shredded beef was so tender with the bell peppers and onions. I can really taste the red wine and tomato sauce in the base. I took a few bites but in general I preferred my dish more, and vis versa he enjoyed his dish more. My lechon asado is a roasted pork that is super super tenderrrrrr.
