***AVOID THIS PLACE*** I have been a loyal customer of Jacks Urban Eats for many years. I literally spend $600-700 a month at Jacks alone. On Friday 7/10/2020 I am truly appalled of a incident that has occurred at the Jacks- Natomas location. I was treated in the most unprofessional, rude, and discriminating manner by a Manager there by the name of Jeffrey. It all started with me simply ordering  - Chinese salad with (2) blackened cajun seasoning salmon.. "requested" if they would blackened & season both sides of the fish & cook it well done with a side of sweet potatoes. (Mind you, I've ordered it this way no problem for the past (6) months straight with no prior issues with other women staff there) I simply asked for it well done because I was served salmon under cooked before & have gotten sick.   When my order was ready after waiting 20mins, I was missing utensils, my sweet potatoes were cold, & salmon under cooked and not seasoned.  I asked the young lady,  if they could grab the missing items, and cook the salmon blackened with the cajun seasoning as I'd initially requested.  She was respectful and said "sure no problem". I regret to get her name, she was a fair complexion African American young lady. I was not impatient nor irate, nor did I raised my voice not once. I just wanted my order done correctly that is all. After 4 attempt to fix my order, I was approached by a man named Jeffrey. (I've waited now approximately 45+mins for my order). Yet again, I did not mind the wait. He step outside to hand me my order with a look of anger & frustration already. I've never seen someone so furious with a mask on to approach me when we have yet to even exchange not one word. He began, to tell in the most rude way that.. "how jacks cook our salmon is how we cook our salmon".. and how you want your salmon cooked is not doable. As I began to explain to him,  I've never had a issue with having it cajun seasoned on both sides for the past 6 months, so why all of a sudden now? He became more irate at me as I began to ask more questions as a typical customer would ask to make sense of things. He yelled that stated they don't have "real" chefs back there and they are new staff so we can't cook your fish how you want it.(which makes no sense to me, why would you staff untrained back there and serving people non quality food.)   He yelled at me upset that he just threw away 4 pieces of fish because of me.  He was so angry. I asked him yet calmly, so basically however jacks cook their food no matter the quality, that the customer is just suppose to take it right? He reply: Yes. I told him if you knew that you could have not achieve the fish to be cooked as requested & ordered initially, why didn't you just communicate that with me in the first 15mins? I would've left no problem instead of waiting 45+mins to be attacked by you. As I began to ask for corporates contact phone number.  He refused to get it for me & told me to look online. He began to become more petty and said "go ahead and file your complaint and that corporate is just going to side with me anyways!" He became even more furious from my questions, and told me that you & your kind are not welcomed at jacks anymore! Never have I ever ever been kicked out from an established in my 34 years of my entire life.  I am a director of a dental group & understand how to communicate with people for a living. I asked him.. "so you're telling me that because you got my order wrong multiple times with missing items, fish that is uncooked, & that you had to throw 4 pieces of fish away,  that I am kicked out of your restaurant and no longer welcomed? That my kind is not welcomed?! He responded angrily with a rude "yes". What does he mean "your kind" is not welcomed here? As an Asian American citizen who was born and raised here in California never have I been treated in such manner. Jeffrey should in no form or way be in place of a manager position. He lacks professionalism & customer service. I was treated unfairly in front of other guests! I have witnesses! He was unprofessional, rude and embarrassed me. I deserve a sincere apology from him. I will boycott this established until the situation is addressed in a professional manner. If i find my complaint is dismissed. This will sadly let me know that Jacks condones racism and to treat customers this way. I did not deserve this nor did I provoked the situation. read more

I had dinner here with some friends before a night of bowling and drinks. I ordered the tri tip sandwich and fries. The assembly line service is pretty quick. My sandwich and mound of fries were plated and ready for me by the time I reached the cashier. The sandwich had the right proportions of meat, bbq sauce and other fillings so it wasn't messy. If you live in Sacramento and have not eaten at Jack's, I will be in shock. Needless to say, I feel that it is my yelping duty to give it a review. Jack is a trendy little spot for families and high school / college kids. They have a ordering system where your food is prepared while you are walking through the line (similar to Pluto's). The food is pretty tasty but it is slightly pricey for what you get. I've been to this location as well as the one in midtown and this one is by far, the better of the two. Reviews of individual menu items: BBQ Tri Tip Sandwich - This was pretty tasty but was too small by itself. Should order an app or fries with it. This sandwich came with pieces of tri tip coated with a pretty amazing BBQ sauce. Seasoned Fries - If ordering a sandwich, it's a no brainer since it's like a $1.50 to $2 add on. They will give you tons of fries with your order - more than you will care to finish at least. Steak Salad - If you're feeling hungry but want to get a salad instead of a burger or sandwich, this will be the one to get. It has a generous amount of steak, coated with blue cheese. Salmon Salad - This is the one to get if you want something lighter and don't mind salmon. It is a pretty refreshing salad with its grapefruit pieces, cucumbers, and carrots. Santa Fe / Spicy Buffalo/Chinese Chicken Salads - I've tried all of these and can't remember the flavor profiles being that great. I think the Chinese Chicken Salad was the best of the three. I came here to meet my friend for lunch. It was completely packed and it being my first time, was unsure if what exactly I was supposed to do - do you sit down first? Order first? Where is the menu? After I figured all that out, I decided on the Sonoma Steak Sandwich ($8.25, Chargrilled tri-tip, crumbled blue cheese, sauteed mushrooms, grilled red onion and spring mix on a ciabatta roll). Of course I had to get fries and a drink to complete my meal! The menu had many items that sounded delicious! Unsure of how big the salads were, I decided to pass (since I couldn't really justify spending almost $10 for a salad). After receiving my food and seeing some of the salads come out to the floor, I was surprised that their salad portions were ginormous! Then restaurant was clean (and so was the bathroom) and it also had seating outside. Although I'm not one for big crowds of people, I do enjoy a good sandwich! Turn off: filthy glass entry doors, unfamiliar with ordering protocol, nobody offered any direction until I wandered to the cashier, who promptly told me I needed to go back to order. Many teen and young twentysomethings looking busy and important but ignoring customers. Having said that, the pesto chicken sandwich is just ok. Kind of bland. My boyfriend loves this place.. it would be on his twice a week rotation if he could. I've had the salads, the sandwiches, the sides, it's all good food. It's just that nothing stands out for me. The tri tip sandwich is okay. The tri tip cheese steak sandwich is okay, it was actually pretty one-dimensional even with the pepper jack cheese.. I got some BBQ sauce to slather on, then it was tasty. The buffalo chicken salad is pretty good but the sauce is spicy but lacking a little savory flavor ya know? The french fries are okay but nothing spectacular to me. It's all good food but I don't ever crave anything here. It is a little expensive just for a couple sandwiches, but it is made to order and the food is always consistent. read more

I've been to Jack's a few more times since my original review. I still prefer Pluto's, but I have to say the food has improved at Jack's. A friend introduced me to the Urban Fries. Very tasty! I also like the steak sandwich, but I still have to customize it so I can get it without their nasty sauces. The service can still be hit or miss, but at least the last time I was there, they were nicer. read more

Me and my wife always come here to eat. Even if for not that hungry will stop and get a salad. They have good selection on sandwiches, salads, and even sliced meats. They have really good side dishes with macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, and there urban fries are to die for. read more

Quality of the food at Jack's is amazing for the fact its a small chain franchise. I love the garlic fries, which won't pass the brown paper bag test, but hey you don't go here to eat healthy. I get the Jack's TriTip sandwich, each and every time without fail, because the sandwich is that addictive. Between the combination of the garlic fries and the tritip, you will be full for two meals. Just don't expect to go here on a diet, because thats not part of the game plan, but if you want to treat yourself you should come here. read more

One thing I really like about this Jack's compared to the one downtown was that it has a much better seating arrangement and plenty more seats! The line was long when I arrived but I was quickly assisted. There was one employee who went out of his way to find my party of 6 a table and provided us water while we were still ordering. I thought that was really sweet. I ordered s BBQ chicken sandwich with regular fries. The chicken was really moist and the BBQ sauce not too overwhelming. I ate half of it and it was enough for me. I never order a salad but my coworkers had some that looked really good. I've only been to Jack's 3 times but I like it more and more each time. Will definitely be back. read more

I thought it was OK, not great. Had the Cajun chicken sandwich and the urban fries. The chicken had good flavor and the bread was crisp on the outside while still being soft on the inside. The mango salsa fell out when I took bites so I didn't get a lot of its flavor. The urban fries are very good and worthy of the hype they get. They have just the right amount of spice and the bleu cheese is not overpowering. When I go to a place I've never been to before, I like to hang back and look over the menu. Here, you walk in and you're practically in line to order already. I grabbed a menu and stepped back aways to look it over. When you get in line to order, its similar to the assembly-line style of ordering at Chipotle. It's a little chaotic for a first-timer, but like Chipotle, I'm sure it gets better the more familiar you become. read more

Jack's is absolutely amazing! They have the BEST salads I have ever had! I am a salad connoisseur and must have a salad before every meal and I love that my salad is my entire meal here, since it is so filling and hearty. I like to order the "create your own" salad then I go crazy with the 6 toppings and the option of several different delicious dressings and chicken or tri tip. You can also order the salads listed on the menu but I love the power and all the choices they offer (cranberries to blue cheese, broccoli to candied walnuts, tofu to beets) They also have super yummy garlic fries and macaroni & cheese, but usually I am too full from my enormous salad! :) This place is a MUST-GO-TO if you have never been! All I have to say is GARLIC FRIES! They are sooo delish! The mac and cheese is pretty tasty too. I had the turkey sandwich. My only complaint is the honey mustard. Next time I will do regular mustard or none. read more

We've lived near Jack's for two years and never tried it until yesterday. I regret that, but I will never regret the AMAZING Hawaiian sandwich and garlic fries I had there. How do they make their fries so delicious? It's a mystery, but it does involve a lot of garlic, and that's okay by me. The service was polite, we got our [takeout] food quickly, and it all tasted awesome. Totally worth the price. We'll be back again soon. read more

I love Jacks normally, but the Natomas restaurant is mediocre. I have tried it multiple times because I live in the neighborhood. Thy skimp on the meat and I have had way too many chewy chicken bites. I also find the staff to be a little pushy at times! I totally recommend the downtown and Roseville locations, no complaints there! I wish this locations was better because I truly enjoy the others and this is in my Neighborhood. This is one of our regular spot for salads and sandwiches. We usually get steak salad, kale and quinoa with chicken, and tri tip sandwich. Also, you can't forget to get urban fries and their cookies. The cookies are soft and yummy. Service is quick. Walk right in to order your food and they will bring it out. Plenty of seats inside and out. As for parking, you won't have any problem at all. This is one of my favorite places to eat whenever I am in Sacramento! I've been to 3 different locations in the Sac area, but this location is the one I tend to frequent most. When I first started coming here I would always get the steak sandwich. They carve the steak right in front of you and the meat is nice and tender! Not super chewy like some steak can be. Lately I am ALL about the make your own salad! So delicious! They have great ingredients to add to your salad. I usually like to get a mixed greens salad steak salad and I like to add marinated mushrooms, beets, artichokes, quinoa, peppers, and cucumbers! I could really go for one of those salads right now! Mmmmm! I always ask for the dressing on the side, since sometimes they go too overboard with it. The urban fries are a MUST! It's fries topped with blue cheese dressing, with hot chili oil, red pepper flakes, and parsley. So delicious!! The family size is great for sharing with 4-5 people and the regular size is great for sharing with one other person. Wishing their was a Jack's in the Bay Area. Some may compare Jack's to Pluto's, but in my opinion Jack's is WAY better! The meats are cooked perfectly (not overdone or dry), they have a better veggie selection (fresher too), AND they have urban fries! My friend and I had lunch the other day. We came early 11:30ish and the place was already filling up. We ordered salads and boy were we disappointed. I asked for dressing on the side. They slopped some on the Chinese chicken salad and then realized it was supposed to be on the side. They gave it to me anyway with a side of dressing. The whole salad was just blah. My friend's salad was so drenched in dressing that she couldn't eat the greens and it was blah as well. We both agreed this was probably the worst experience we've had here. Ate lunch here with an old friend and enjoyed it. We went at lunch time and it was pretty busy. I ordered a custom salad with chicken and mixed greens. The food was brought to our table by a server. Ordered a Create Your Own salad, the spinach was old, and had black spots, the carrots were bad, tasted old, supposed to have ( ordered ) pickled radishes, received regular radishes. I give it a 5 because consistantly the food is good, ocassionally a human error does occur and or something is not perfect. Simply said, Jacks kicks ass... It's the perfect spot to go to when you're not sure what you want to eat, because they have something for everyone. When I go, I pretty much always get the Carnitas Sandwich or California Cheese Steak. If I'm blazed out of my mind, or just want to treat myself right, I have to get the Urban Fries and a piece of Cheesy Bread in addition to said sandwich. If you want to fool yourself into thinking you're eating healthy by getting a salad, Jacks is perfect because they don't have your standard lame ass petite salad, they have malads (man-salad)... As for the service, they exceed expectations... Most are younger folks who just want to put in their time and get the hell out of there. C'mon people, it's cafeteria style, not The Kitchen... I'm so glad that there is at least one restaurant in Natomas that isn't a fast food, pre- made, grease wagon! I love the food here at Jacks, it is always fresh and satisfying and who doesn't love their Urban Fries! There are not very many places you can get an awesome fresh salad that isn't covered in crap and that's why I love coming here. My only complaint is that the customer service is so-so. I always feel like the people behind the counter are upset and frustrated and it's like I'm bothering them. Out of all the times I've been here I've never had a friendly or welcoming experience, which does suck considering this isn't the cheapest lunch place. Good salads and sandwiches. They miss the 5 star mark for me only because of the ordering chaos. I'm not a fan of barking out my order from behind a line of people. The staff were plenty friendly, though. I liked the steak salad. Good steak pieces (perfect, barely warm temp), dried cranberries, blue cheese crumbles, red onion, and just enough basamic vinegrete. This is one of the salad selections from their menu, which I find less stressful than picking out each ingredient of my salad while others wait behind me. This reminds me of my favorite Steak Bistro salad that Panera booted from their menu. What were they thinking? The garlic fries here were good, too. Good thickness, crispy on the outside and well cooked inside. We went on a Friday night, and it was busy but not crowded. I like having real plates and silverware, too. My salad was made on the spot, but the fries took a little longer. Fortunately, they only took a few minutes (worth it for freshness), and an employee brought them right to our table. read more
