Jacobs saved me from my three-year nightmare of trying to get my heat pump repaired. I endeared three winters of the system freezing over anytime the temperature dropped below 35°. I went through three horrible HVAC companies who just wanted to sell me a new systems. Jacobs came in and got the system up and running while working with the manufacturer to be sure that the parts were covered under the warranty. Not once did they try and sell me a new system. We've been getting ac and heater maintenance for years from Jacob's. This was my first time with a negative experience. I usually get called before they come over to let me know they are on their way or a text message the week before which didn't happen. I got one email saying the appointment was confirmed but no communication after that. Each time we have had our ac or furnace maintained the air filter is always swapped out. This time the technician didn't have one and said we'd have to let the office know if we wanted one. This was news to me as I thought it was included in the maintenance. We paid $610 dollars for servicing our AC and we were told they couldn't break done the cost into labor and parts. We later discovered the part cost $75. It took the technician less than 20 minutes to diagnose and replace the part. $175 for diagnosis and $435 for ??? We feel ripped off!! read more

Bryan did our annual air conditioning service, we hope to see him again in the fall when it's time for the furnace. Their repair people have always been great- not only made the repair but have taken time to explain what is going on. Also high points for clean and neat. Definitely recommend you think twice before calling Jacobs. We had them service our fireplaces. The technician said one of the fireplaces needed a new gas valve and they would send us a quote. We received the quote a few days later - $1300+ for the new gas valve, and that included parts and labor. That seemed high based on my online research, so I asked Jacobs for a breakdown of the cost, including what kind of gas valve they were quoting. It took their customer service department 7 days to respond. This was after we sent three emails and left a voicemail. The customer service rep claimed all of our emails went to spam, but that doesn't explain why she didn't reply to the voicemail I left. When they did finally reply, they said they don't provide a breakdown of the cost and that "the quote is the quote". This was surprising, but we were in a rush to get the fireplace fixed, so we authorized the new gas valve anyway. Once again, we didn't hear back. After several days we decided to find another company to service that one fireplace. Finally, 5 days later, Jacobs replied and said they could schedule the service, but we told them we moved on to another company since we hadn't heard back. But it gets worse - the new company started to dismantle the fireplace and asked if Jacobs actually took out the fake logs and cleaned them. I told them I wasn't sure because I wasn't in the room at the time. He asked because the logs had soot all over them (he showed me), so Jacobs didn't even clean the fireplace properly, which is part of what we were paying them to do. On top of this, the rep at the new company could tell right away that we didn't need a new gas valve, and that it was just a pilot light part that needed to be replaced - the cost for that part was $215, and he had the part in his truck. So he replaced it and it works. Jacobs not only didn't clean my fireplace properly, but they were going to charge me $1300+ for something I didn't need. Given this, plus the really poor customer service response time, I highly recommend calling someone else. read more

Quoted $175 for a diagnostic visit. Ended up charged $361 without prior approval. The tech was onsite for about an hour, changed no parts, and simply topped off refrigerant. After I questioned the bill, I was told the $175 only covered 30 minutes, even though I was originally told it was a 90 minute diagnostic appointment. The pricing felt misleading and the communication was poor. I would not recommend based on this experience. read more

Jacob's has been the go to for heating and air conditioning in the past, but I think this is when we part ways. The diagnostic callout is fair $175 if it's not urgent, something close to $400 if it's urgent. I had already told them what the problem was, diagnosed by NW natural gas when they came out to turn the gas off to the unit. They still wanted to do their own diagnostics. I guess I understand that. I have a cracked ingitor plate, for which they gave a quote just a few dollars shy of 1000. I figured I ask about installing a new thermostat while they are here, for which I got a $960. I found these prices a bit outside my comfort zone. I called a different company and asked for quotes. Their quote is 50% less. That's a big difference! read more

I just wasted an afternoon with a Jacobs technician who came to my house, spent 45 minutes looking around and talking, and then explained that he was unable to do any actual maintenance work on my heat pump, because apparently their dispatcher gave him the wrong information, telling him that I have an electric furnace instead of a heat pump. The technician even tried to charge me for the useless visit. When I called Jacobs back, to try to schedule another appointment and explain what had happened, the receptionist blamed me and said I was "confused" because I hadn't told her the specific *type* of heat pump that I have. But she had never asked for that information when I called! I just want someone to do routine maintenance on my heat pump! If they need information about what brand or model it is, they should ask for it! read more

I finally called another company who came out and discovered there were no caps on the air conditioning unit. He said the refrigerant could have all leaked out. Unconscionable. I booked a service call for my broken furnace (only 6 yrs old, bought from Jacobs). The technician arrived, I explained what the problem was & he started to diagnose. He worked for 40 minutes and then told me he was finished repairing. The unit needed a new blower motor, which he had with him, and the part was under warranty. But the labor was not. He then informed me that the labor cost was, and I kid you not, OVER NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS. For 40 minutes. I was utterly gobsmacked. I was able to get the call-out fee (huh) waived & a discount after discussing all of the things that are wrong, unethical, outrageous @ this "fee structure." I still ended up paying the equivalent of 800$ per hour. I've used Jacobs for 13 years; I will NEVER GO BACK. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Jacobs was quick to come out and charge us $175 in daignostic charges identifying what was wrong with our furnace and the technician told me it should be resolved within 1 to 2 days. After 7 days there was still no word from Jacobs, meanwhile my entire family is freezing living without heat. I called 6 times, kept getting looped to a voicemail and never got a call back as to when they could come replace it or how much the part would be. After being completely dismissed by Jacobs, I called another company, the other company came out and identified the problem , went to pick up the new motor, came back and installed it all within 2 hours. 2 hours! We had been freezing for 7 days because the team at Jacobs are horrible. Save your time and money call anyone else. Midway is the company we ended up using and I cannot recommend them enough. Such an excellent job with Midway compared to getting ghosted by Jacobs after they took our money. read more

Last night at the beginning of the heat wave, our heat pump threw a code on the thermastat and stopped cooling. It was a Sunday night and we really did not want to pay for a call unless it was needed. I called the after-hours line and left a message. Anthony called back within 10 minutes. He was able to guide us through a pretty easy fix. The heat pump had gotten dusty and needed to be cleaned. We turned off the system, hosed it down, reset the breakers and started the system. It worked perfectly and is still working. Anthony also encouraged us to call back if anything went wrong. We have been Jacobs customers for 32 years and have always had great service. read more

Called for them to come out and work on our furnace on Monday. I was told it wouldn't be able to get us until Wednesday afternoon. Turns out, we found another company to do it that day so I called on Tuesday to cancel our appointment. They told me they don't have any record of any service scheduled for us on Wednesday. They even told me I probably called the wrong company, which I didn't, I just hit redial from the call on Monday. Glad we chose the other company. read more

I placed an order for a furnace and air conditioner in March of 2022. It was scheduled to be installed in August but they had to delay that by a month. In the first 3 months since my $15,000 system has been installed it has failed twice. The first time the gas leading to the furnace wasn't calibrated properly. The second time was on a day when it was 20 degrees outside. Despite talking with me about how they were going to tie a drain line into my plumbing, the installer ran it outside. This means that when it is freezing and you need your furnace the most, it will fail because the line freezes. The repair person said it was installed incorrectly and ran a temporary line. Now I will need to schedule a third post install visit to fix the furnace. I can't wait for summer to find out what install issues exist with the air conditioner. read more

This is a brand new HVAC system and while the customer service to receive it, purchase and install was outstanding With every extreme weather event - it craps out. This is the 2nd time! It's 20 out- it's freezing and our furnace is off. The thermostat is off. When I called this morning the young woman answering the phone was a total snotty, condescending rude biotch- that would only offer "my technician isn't available until 12/27" so going 5 days without heat- during a storm- is acceptable?! I have kids, animals, and pipes - 5 DAYS without heat is NOT OK. And now it smells of gas- and I am waiting for NW Natural to arrive. Been using JH&AC for a couple years for checkups and routine maintenance to keep my HVAC healthy. Bryan the tech is always on time, calls ahead to let me know he's on his way, and is very thorough. He answered all my questions with thorough explanations about best practices and how to get the most out of my system. He even taught me how to use some really cool features on my thermostat that I didn't know existed. I'm very satisfied and I recommend you have them come out a couple times a year for a system checkup--they have an inexpensive service plan just for this. Jacobs were the original installer of my heating and cooling in the home I bought this year. I've had problems with both my a/c and heating which have left me without a/c in the heat of summer and without heat in the cold of winter for a month at a time each. The company is incredibly slow to contact you and no one in the office seems to give a shit. To fix my heat, Jacobs sent a junior tech out who couldn't figure out the issue, and then a senior tech who said he didn't want to rewire my furnace so claimed it was "probably" a short in the motherboard. Then I had to wait 2 weeks (without. heat.) just for them to give me a quote to fix it, which was a bit over $2k when the tech had admitted he wasn't sure that was the issue. Meanwhile I called another company who sent a tech out that was able to actually diagnose the issue (guess what, Jacobs had originally wired the whole system wrong, as that tech probably knew and just didn't want to do). They fixed it for half the price. Ridiculous. Don't waste your time. read more

I used to think this was a good company. Today's event changed that. One of their techs did a tune-up on our less than 2 year old furnace yesterday (Friday.) Our house is well insulated, so I did not notice the furnace was not working until Saturday afternoon. I called their service number and was told they would come out and fix the problem they created the following Tuesday. I understand that mistakes happen and I don't blame the tech. What I don't understand is how they don't have urgency to fix their problem, when I, a customer, is suffering from their mistakes. Right now it is Saturday afternoon at 2:15, 39 degrees, and raining. If this were my company, if I didn't have anyone else to fix it, I would come out and do it myself. This total disregard for customer service is unfathomable to me. read more

We have been going through a renovation since last year. Jacobs did all the duct work and the addition of AC. We have been waiting for the final hook-up of the AC and the hood vent. Unfortunately, when you call, they NEVER call back. Now we are being told our scheduled appointment may not be honored. We have had this planned for OVER A MONTH. We have been living in a hot box, and extreme weather is predicted next week. Unacceptable. We would have never picked this company if our contractors had not used them. This company is beyond terrible. Our furnace was installed by them and it is very expensive. I should have looked at the reviews before I called to schedule service after it went out. I called on a Thursday and they said they could get me in on Monday and took my credit card number. On Monday I waited for four hours and nobody showed up. I called to see what was happening and they told me I was scheduled for the following Monday.The representative on the phone said Monday which was in 4 days... she did not say Monday the 18th. I would never have agreed to an 11 day wait! Both employees were half dead and provided no apologies. I am currently trying to find a different option. I called Jacob's to fix a leaking furnace. They scheduled a date for diagnosis, cancelled on me the same day they were supposed to come and tried to reschedule me two other times. Finally got the diagnosis and was told it would be under $500 to repair. I had to call multiple times to follow up and find out what the next step is. Two weeks later I finally get a hold of someone, and I am told the cost is $870 after I already paid a $175 diagnosis fee, for a total of $1,045 . Their part is backordered for a month and a half, so I found the same part online for $130 that can arrive in a week. This is the same part they want to charge me $403 for, plus $467 in labor. I asked "if I order the part on my own can you install it?" Turns out they will install it without warranty, ok fair I guess, but now the labor cost is $642 if I source the part myself that they cannot get for another 6 weeks! 1 star for their flakey scheduling. 1 star for poor communication. 1 star for making the customer feel like they don't matter. 1 star for false quotes and non-transparency. The tech they sent out was nice and did his job quickly while he was here. Only good thing I have to say. Needless to say, I do not recommend Jacob's. read more

Jacobs was a lifesaver when we needed help on behalf of our elderly neighbor. They pulled out all the stops, and came out quickly, fixed what was needed, and did not overcharge. This was oil heat, and required a specialized tech, and they came when they said they would, called me a couple of times to check in for arrangements, and called when the job was done as well to make sure everything was working right. Conrad and Randy are awesome to work with, and I really appreciate everything they did! Randy even showed me a bit on how to check a few things on these old furnaces. This is unacceptable and disgusting behavior especially from someone who is out on the job. Makes me wonder how they'd act in my own home. I have been using Jacobs for the past 10 years for my furnace and air conditioning needs. They have serviced it 6 times in the past 10 years, starting with the installation of a new furnace. Each time they came they give me an estimate for repair and I would ok it on the spot. When I called them out this time, I actually did a little research on line and found the troubleshooting procedure by Carrier for that error code the furnace was indicating. The procedure was three pages long, so I called Jacobs. The person who came out diagnosed the problem in about 10-15 mins ( he did not use the 3 page trouble shooting procedure that is provided by the manufacturer) and wrote up an estimate of $1814 for a new induction motor. Also on the estimate was another price of $1723 that waive the $150 Diagnostic Assessment Fee and reduce some other fees if I signed up for the annual cleaning service. I expressed some concern about the diagnosis saying the motor was only 10 years old, he told me because I did not send in a card found in the middle of my operation manual for the furnace the warranty was only 5 yrs not 10 yrs. The more questions I asked, the more uncomfortable I was feeling about the estimate. I told him I needed to think about it to which he responded they need to order the part and it is going to get cold soon. He also told me repeatedly that his own furnace had recently broke with a similar issue, He then charged me $175 for the Diagnostic Assessment even though estimate said $150. (I didn't catch it until after he left) In the end, I found someone who would do the three page procedure (for $150). it turns out I did not need to replace the whole motor but only a part ($300) that you unplug from the motor to take off and plug in to put the new piece on. you did not have to open or fix any part inside the motor and replacing the part took under 15 mins. I will say the person who did fix it was not surprised by the estimate I received and that it was not uncommon. I guess I was hoping that because I bought my furnace from Jacobs and used them excusively for my problems that I would get a little better service than the generic "you need to replace the whole motor and by the way I'll cut you a good deal if buy our yearly service, if not you go cold and I will over charge you for the diagnostic assessment" read more

I have used Jacobs to install an air conditioning unit and now again our church decided on Jacobs for a twin furnace replacement. I had five bids given to me, and for a 95% efficiency twin set, Jacobs was 2,000 cheaper than any other bid I received with one caveat- there was a 6 week delay before work could begin. As we have a large electric heated room in another wing of the church, we decided the savings was worth the wait. You must also hire the electric work yourself or in our case, Jacobs found an electrician only days after the units were installed. Their response time was great - thank you to Andrea at the office and Wayne on the field and Ralph and Zach. We would definitely use this company again, and for the price there really is no comparison. read more

After giving me an estimate to install a circuit breaker and wiring from the heat pump to the thermostat, I called to have the work done. Because I didn't want to pay another $317.59 (yes, that was the exact quoted price, for some reason) to have the thermostat "installed" -- that is, to spend 10 minutes connecting wires to terminals and screwing the device to the wall -- they said they would not warranty the wiring installation. When I objected and asked to speak with someone about pricing to see if we could find a way to put a reasonable price on the thermostat "install," after checking with her supervisor the phone rep said, and I quote, "I can't give you a break down on the pricing because we've chosen not to do the repair." I guess if enough people are willing to pay ridiculously inflated prices for trivial work there's no need to maintain good customer relations with people who can use a screwdriver. What is most galling about the whole thing is that they quoted me $742.58 (yep, again, that's the exact number. No idea how they arrived at it) for a new Ecobee thermostat. You have to work hard to pay more than $250 for the top of the line Ecobee online. Including shipping. Do they not know that people have the Internet? Do people pay actually those prices? Does Ecobee know the kind of markup they're charging? Of course, seeing that makes me wonder about the rationale of the other prices they quoted. But between that and $317 to tighten a few screws, it's hard not to conclude that this company is just gouging the hell out of everyone. BEWARE! read more
