Had some recent problems with Anctil. We called them to fix a faulty heatpump that they had installed and which was still under warranty. It was a frustrating experience from the start. Really poor communication all along, which made what follows all that much worse. Took them over 7 weeks to get the part and return, leaving the home unable to be cooled during the heat waves. After about week 6 of waiting with little to no information they finally admitted that they hadn't successfully ordered the part. They then ordered the part, got it in a week, and fixed it. Despite the problems - all on their end - causing a 7 week+ delay they then sent me a much larger-than-seemed-fair invoice for their time (part was under warranty). Sure doesn't seem like this is the same family-run locally respected business that they had a reputation for. Maybe being bought up by Midway Mechanical in 2023 (which is the "roll-up" arm of the investment firm The Midway Companies) has something to do with this? Just guessing. read more

Finally get through, and the guy is very unhelpful and starts reading me paragraphs of disclaimers without listening to what I want, which is a bid for a heat pump, and info about a tax credit. I recently decided it was time to replace my water heater which is 20 years old+. I requested bids from three companies which is my standard practice. Since all three bids were similar in price, I selected Anctil Heating & Cooling. They installed my new furnace and air conditioner about six years ago. So I'm a repeat customer. I was satisfied with the product and service six years, plus they included a slight discount for the new project. Due to constraints with my schedule, the water heater installation wasn't scheduled for another six weeks or so. I was contacted promptly by the scheduler when I planned to be available with the installation scheduled within days. On the planned date, Jose & Jose, (yes, dos Joses!) arrived right on time in the morning. They worked steadily until the work was complete. The lead Jose kept me informed during the installation. At one point, they brought in their electrician to take care of small issue. They installed the water heater and drainage pan, removed the old water heater and cleaned up when their work was done. Both Jose & Jose were thorough, courteous and professional. I'm very satisfied with my experience. read more

I have encountered a massive delay in the installation of a new HVAC system by Anctil Heating and Cooling in Portland. I contracted with Anctil in December 2022 based on their representation that the system would be installed within a couple of months. Supply chain problems are now being blamed for the delay and I have no reason to dispute Anctil's assertion. The delay makes air conditioning this summer a real question mark. When I contracted with Anctil back in December, I was obliged to put down a 50% deposit. Anctil has now held what amounts to a substantial interest-free advance for 7 months; the term of the advance could continue indefinitely. In view of the delay, I requested a return of deposit pending installation. I notified Anctil that Oregon law contemplates such a return and I gave them a specific citation. Despite that, Anctil made a business decision to refuse my request. Bottom line, I'm out both the AC and the deposit. A double whammy! In retrospect, I wish I had negotiated a specific "return of deposit" provision, for instance, an automatic return if installation tool longer than, say 90 days. At the very least, that would have provided some protection and would have incentivized Anctil to advocate with the HVAC manufacturers to accelerate the delivery. read more

The upstairs of my house has historically been 10 - 15 degrees hotter than downstairs in the summer. Even worse during the recent "heat dome". So I called a few HVAC shops to find a solution. Jake from Anctil came out and pointed out an airflow issue caused by how the unit had originally been installed that the other estimators hadn't even noticed. Fixing it increased the price, but I was more interested in getting it fixed right than just going with the lowest bid. In the end, I had a zoning system installed so that the upstairs temp could be controlled separately from the downstairs, plus added another vent in an undersupplied room. Jake got me a quote quickly, and, unlike other companies, they actually had the parts available and I didn't have to wait until February to get the work done. The crew arrived about 4 weeks after I got the bid from Jake (with a little follow up on my part) -- they actually showed up a few minutes early, which was great (sooner begun, sooner done and all that). They ran into some unexpected issues and it ended up taking 2 days instead of one, but once they started the work, they were very good at communicating what was going on, how long it would likely take, and any challenges they found. I was really impressed with all of the crew. Everyone was professional and nice. They arrived early and worked hard all day. They weren't bothered (or didn't show it) when I dropped in to get a status update. They did a great job cleaning up when they were done. Overall it was a great experience and, as far as I can tell so far, it was successful in achieving the objective of getting better airflow upstairs and will allow me to have better control of the upstairs temperature (without having to adjust the downstairs temperature to a ridiculous level.) I will be using Anctil again and will be referring them to my friends and neighbors. read more

These guys consistently go out of their way to help their customers, even when it means that they lose out on a service call. Today, my furnace stopped working. It's 17 degrees outside. Nobody has anyone available to come out right away, but Anctil gave us instructions on how to fix the problem over the phone. It turned out that the drain pipe on our condensing furnace froze up, preventing the water from being pumped outside. Anctil helped us to clear the plug and get our furnace working again. Two summers ago we spent $8000 replacing our old furnace with a new top of the line Carrier system Today ( oct 23 ) it doesnt even work and its cold outside (47 deg ) ...of course no one from the dealer Anctil Heating and Air has called despite claims this system is hooked up to issue messages to them when help is needed . Been a customer of Anctil for almost 20 years. In November 2022 had a blower assembly on the furnace go out. Cost ~$1100 for the blower and $300 for labor. 68 days later Anctil returned to replace the blower because it died, a bad piece of equipment. Manufacturer replaced the blower at no cost. Anctil charged another $300 for labor. I called to discuss and was sent to voice message. No return call for a full week.i called again and got a return call a couple of days later. No adjustments to bill, the event exceeded their warranty. May karma visit you as well Anctil!!! read more

I requested an inspection of a noisy furnace anctil installed for me 30 years ago. They came out and spent 10 minutes to diagnosis that it needed to be replaced and left. I just received a bill for $120 for a 'dispatch fee'. Just want folks to know their current policy. Evidently I was told of the fee but have no memory of it. Fine. I had both Anctil and another company price the replacement. I went with the other company because they offered the same spec furnace for $1,200 less. I would suggest using a different company. No. There is nothing that Anctil offers that you want. Their installers are incompetent, their service manager will lie to you, and once the check is cashed, they don't care if you live or die. We purchased Mitsubishi ductless AC from Anctil. Three units: one leaked water into our living room the first time we turned it on (if only their were a way to test that). One was hung crooked and is still crooked. The third has been leaking water into my house for years. I've heard all the bulls@it excuses from Anctil as to why they have no idea why the unit leaks and why they can't get someone out to straighten out the unit that isn't level. Anctil refuses to work with Mitsubishi on this, even though Mitsubishi insists that they do. We spent a lot of money on the units, we've spent a lot of money on the damage that has been done to our house (walls, floors, ceilings) that Anctil never suggested that they would take care of. I could go on and on, but why? Why would you ever want Anctil in your life? read more

I waited three weeks for an appointment and the morning of they cancel saying their tech was sick...the next call was a different person saying that the first person was wrong and my appt was still on...then finally an hour later they called back saying their tech was sick again. The final straw? They couldn't get another tech out for 2 weeks. I had taken work off and my tenants had arranged their day around this appointment as well. You suck Anctil. read more

My furnace breaker was getting hot and blowing. I called Anctil and scheduled an appointment. Technician shows up and tells me the coils are putting out to many amps causing the breaker to blow. This didn't seem right to me? He goes on to tell me how my system both furnace and heat pump is old. He says he's pretty sure they don't even make the coils I needed anymore. He informs me I should by a whole new system both heat pump and furnace. Again this also doesn't ring true to me as I explained to him my system worked perfectly before the breaker kept blowing. So at this point there's nothing more he can do to help me unless I wanted to buy whole new system through Anctil. He hands me a $213 bill for his expert advice and after waiting 2 days for him to show up in the cold I still have no heat. I suspected that it could just be a bad breaker so I went online to see how to replace it and learned it's actually super easy. I bought new beaker at Home Depot and put in. Shut power off took 2 screws out and snapped new breaker in. 10 minute job. My furnace is now back to working perfectly. It was simply just an old worn out breaker. ANY COMPETENT heating cooling guy should have suggested checking the breaker before buying a whole new system!! Anctil your guys diagnosis is an outrage and you should be embarrassed and ashamed and Mark the person in charge won't even return my calls to make this right. read more

They condemned a working furnace and use scare tactics! If you care about equal treatment regardless of your gender, and fair and honest people, this is not the company for you. I'm really disappointed in Anctil. When I bought this house, the inspector said that the gas furnace needed replacing, but I should do maintenance at the bare minimum. It was 36 years old, but as far as I could tell from doing the simple job of turning it on and it filling the house with heat, it worked. I called Anctil on recommendation. The rep came out after having to reschedule twice. It took 2 months just to get someone out there and he immediately saw a furnace he didn't understand and said that it was a safety hazard. He told me there was a crack in the heat exchanger and that the furnace wasn't set up properly and was spewing carbon monoxide into the house. I didn't have CO detectors at the time and he told me that I was lucky I didn't die in my sleep. He condemned the unit and cut the wires to the thermostat so that I couldn't turn on the furnace if I wanted to. And I paid them $110 for the privilege of shutting down my heat. After a very cold October weekend, I called my home warranty to see if they would foot the bill for the repair. Accent Heating came out with a carbon monoxide detector and a more "seasoned" tech (read older and more experienced). They discovered that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the unit. Was it old? Yes. Was it hella inefficient? Yes. It does a great job of heating the garage. Was it a safety hazard? No, not at all. They turned the furnace back on and told me that it needed a cleaning. Furious, I called over to Anctil and asked to speak with the manager. The receptionist was especially rude to me given that I felt that they saw a single woman and decided to take advantage of her. I felt rolled by the experience. And it took the manager a week to return my call. Remarkably, the sales rep was able to get out to my house within a few days. After a week of them not calling me back because they were "checking with the tech," they eventually said that they would refund the $110. Mind you, I'm still out the $75 for the home warranty deductible to repair the system that they wrongly condemned. And the unit still needed cleaning. I landed on the Heating Specialist for the cleaning of the system. They did an amazing job and the unit is running great for a 36 year old system. And having interviewed multiple companies to replace the furnace, my favorite is Scott from Greentech Heating. He's a straight shooter and very honest, which to me is important because I consider integrity to be a critical role in who I decide to do business with. I can only hope that this review help spread the truth. Don't pay the price I did. read more

I have had Anctil out to every house I have owned & they are honest, fast & reasonably priced. I have used them for 23years. Today my parents called me & their air conditioning had been out for 5 days they had a different company come out to service the AC & charged them $350 3 days ago & they said they couldnt fix it until September 3. I had Anctil install a new furnace and air conditioner in my home last summer. The whole process was smooth, professional and well beyond my expectations. I am delighted with the equipment they recommended. It is quiet, and keeps my house (two zones, upstairs & down) comfortable. Last week my thermostat reported some trouble with communications to the outside compressor. I called and said I had heat, but there was this message that the equipment needed attention. Anctil responded in 48 hours. I thought that was very good. I was a commercial contractor in the Portland Metro area for 40 years. I have worked with scores of local HVAC contractors all over Oregon and Washington. I asked Anctil for a proposal on my home because they had completed a particularly messy job for a long time client without any problems or change orders. That's exactly how they performed for me. We got four bids for our planned full hvac replacement. The equipment was 18 years old, contractor grade and only 80% efficient. There were three bids that were similar in price and one that was substantially lower. Normally we do not jump to get the lowest price, but the manufacturer, Carrier, has strong reliability ratings and we had used them years before in our old home. Eric, their sales rep came right on time and worked with us to refine Anctil's bid. Once we selected them we were given our project's start date and it was accurate. Two days to remove and install both furnace and A/C units. The install crew was efficient and began and ended right on time. Clean up was excellent. Help to program our new internet thermostats was provided to get us going. I have nothing but positive things to report about our Anctil experience so far. read more

Its very stressful but exciting to purchase a new home. Dont ruin it by deciding to have this company do the job. The original job bid at only taking 1 day took 5 trips to the house. To be honest we have lost all trust to even know if it's right, but are very glad to not have them come back. Very little respect for your home or the new insert we purchased. I had to replace an old oil furnace in a house I recently purchased as part of the real estate deal. The seller wanted to install the cheapest thing they could find, which would not have even heated half the house. I called Anctil and they were very willing to work within my unique situation, keeping my best interests in mind. They even waited to take the final payment from the Escrow account at closing which was a huge help! They did all the manufacturer rebate paperwork for me and provided all the tax documents I'll need to get those credits as well. I hate writing negative reviews, but gotta do what I gotta do. There are two faces to Anctil, the folks in the field installing equipment and making it work, and the folks supporting them and communicating with the customer (sales and billing and scheduling). The installers get 5 stars and the others get none. I think this is a company that doesn't get it when it comes to communicating what they're going to do and when. The Good: The equipment they sold me was installed competently, the installers went over what I needed to do to keep it working, and they cleaned up afterwards. 5 stars. The Bad: When I accepted their bid and gave the sales guy my visa number, he mistakenly charged the entire amount, resulting in thousands of dollars of unexpected charges. When I objected he cheerfully credited the overcharge, but in my eyes there was damage done that couldn't be undone. I asked the sales guy in an email when they would start, but my email was unanswered for a week. I finally sent a flaming follow-up and finally they awoke and responded. After the install I tried to claim the rebates, and 30 days later, I still am awaiting action on over $500 of rebates that were promised. Again a trail of unanswered emails and nebulous promises to fix things that seem to stretch out forever. I worked in customer service many years and was never allowed to ignore customer emails and calls, we had software that tracked everything and it just wasn't acceptable for that to happen. That is something Anctil needs to work on, and if I had to do it all over again I would look elsewhere. I have been a long time customer of Anctil Heating & Cooling. I've had a financial arrangement for the past couple of years for them to come twice a year - in the fall and summer, to check my furnace and air-conditioner. When I called last week to set up an appointment, I was told that the postcards recently went out to customers with this type of arrangement, and that I could get an appointment in a month. Since I never received a post card, and should have been considered a "preferred customer" due to my long term loyalty, I was a bit frustrated that they weren't able to fit me in for quite some time . When I mentioned that I wouldn't take that appointment and may look somewhere else, the guy who does the scheduling was just fine with that. Had a couple of Anctil guys out here today to replace a length of duct and boot running through my crawlspace and they did a great job. Very thorough, helpful, and tidy. The job not a fun one, but they handled it very professionally. I'd have given Anctil 5 stars, but getting the work scheduled took persistence and two weeks of follow ups, only to schedule the work two weeks after we finally connected. There is huge demand for good service teams in Portland right now, and I wish every company could commit to a consistent timeframe for responses. I would recommend giving Anctil a call if you aren't in a hurry to have the work done, but want the job done right. The two installers that came out went above and beyond. read more

My husband and I purchased a new furnace and new ductwork from Anctil about a year ago. The team was very responsive and professional, and we were entirely pleased with the work. We got a couple of bids for the project, and I believe we paid about $5K to Anctil. The trouble started just this winter when we moved upstairs into our new addition and turned on the furnace. Our bedrooms upstairs heat quickly each morning when the furnace kicks on to close to 80 degrees while downstairs, it take hours to get it above 65. This is more a function of an old house downstairs (built in 1897 with original windows) and a brand new, tightly insulated addition upstairs. I don't fault Anctil for the temperature differential. However, we called Anctil to get some dampers put in place so that all the heat doesn't shoot upstairs when the furnace clicks on. Their estimator came out and was pleasant. He let us know the part was about $5, and because this problem should have been addressed during the original install, he implied they may not charge us to install the dampers. He left with a smile and a handshake and now we can't get this man, Eric, or any of his coworkers to call us back. My husband has left at least five messages and even offered to install the dampers himself, if he could just have a quick conversation with a technician about how to do so. I'm really feeling like Anctil behaved extremely professionally when writing up a $5,000 invoice, but when they need to donate an hour of time to make the customer happy and comfortable with the products they sold us, they go poof. read more

These guys could have taken advantage of us if they wanted to. Eric came out to look at our unit. Ultimately it was decided that there was likely a leak in our system somewhere but not sure where. Depending on where it was, the cost could have ranged from bad to horrible. When Dave the service came out to run the tests, he noticed that one of the valves was faulty. So instead of saying "sir, you need a new ac unit", he said "sir, you just need a new valve". So instead of getting thousands out of us, it was only $330. Love the honesty and customer service. On top of that, they were a few minutes early for the appointment. Complete professionals and prompt follow up. I will definitely be calling Anctil from now on. read more

Had a brand new Carrier furnace installed by Anctil in 2009. Had a little bump during installation due to being promised one thing by sales (free gas line installation), then getting billed by office. They were reluctant to fixed their error, but they did and acted like it was my fault. They never apologized. When they installed the furnace they put a little pocket on the side and all of the information regarding the transaction and equipment was put in the pocket. Now, our furnace just quit working. I pulled the paperwork, hasn't been touched since install, and there is NO WARRANTY information.They never provided this to us. I know I should've looked, but I didn't think about it until I needed it. Today I called and left a voicemail for Jeff inquiring about the warranty on MY furnace. Jeff called me back and said that it had a 1 year labor, 5 year parts and 20 years on the heat exchanger. When I pointed out that we never received anything about a warranty he said that he's not sure how that works during installation. Why don't you check that and close that gab in communication? How about apologizing for it not being included? How about offering to send me my warranty information? Nope, nothing. Jeff, then mentioned something about how different manufacturers change warranties, and they can do that whenever, but then mentioned they do it annually, etc... After this I wasn't sure if he had looked up my specific information at install or was just speaking in generic terms. When I asked if he looked up MY furnace information he defensively said that he would not have called me without looking it up first. I know it seems petty, but when you put out just over $8,500 you expect great customer service, good communication and at the very least, information regarding the warranty on your unit. According to some other reviews this seems to be a pattern with Anctil. So, when someone needs a resource for HVAC work I will certainly tell them who NOT to go to. read more

I recently had the ductless Mitsubishi Electric Split-Type air conditioner installed in my house, with wall-mounted units installed in three rooms. Eric provided very good explanations of this system vs other options when he came to the house to provide an estimate. The entire installation was then completed in one day, by employees who were very courteous and efficient in their work. I am very pleased with the system and am also impressed with the quality of the work performed by Anctil. I recommend them highly. read more

We had them out to work on a couple of unrelated issues, one of which was installing a new thermostat that they suggested. They installed it, but it was not working when they left, telling us we had to call the thermostat company to complete the setup. We thought that sounded weird and when we started tinkering with it ourselves, realized it had been wired incorrectly. After following the instructions, we had it re-wired and actually working in a few minutes. When the invoice arrived and "Thermostat installation" was included in the list of work performed, we attempted to contact them about a clarification and perhaps a slight modification of charges. Phone messages went unanswered. Email was ignored. We paid the bill just to be done with it. The two stars are for the one thing that they did right, and the time they repaired some duct work when we first bought the house. The work was well done and they were pleasant enough to deal with, but the total lack of communication has us shopping for a new furnace guy. read more

I was having a lot of problems with my heat pump this summer. The technician Wayne came out and basically over several appointments undif/repaired all of the previous repair errors and got my air conditioning /heat pump and furnace working properly. I purchased my 1940 farmhouse a year-and-a-half ago and there have been several issues with the heat pump and furnace. Wayne asked that I request the same technician and let him be the guy to get it completely working correctly, which he did over several visits.he wanted to make sure that it was done correctly since there had been several errors from previous technicians which were partially causing the problems. This company is great at communication, technicians arrive when they say they are going to. They are on time, professional, clean, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend them. As a real estate broker I will definitely keep them on my list of contractors for repairs. If you have the option of using this company do it. I am very loyal to companies that prove integrity and professionalism along with having a high knowledge base. read more

I had a new thermostat control and furnace work done in October 2017. May 2018 no AC, yes when it was 80 degrees. Anctil did send a repair man out to see what the problem was. I had to miss 2 hours of work, missed an evening with friends that rarely come to Portland, and 3 1/2 hours later-it is not fixed. I was able to make arrangements to have someone in my home the next day-it was a 45 minute drive for them one way. The new tech came out, rebooted the thermostat and voila, it worked. It had not been properly set up in the beginning. The first guy was trying to sell me a new electrical panel switch or possible a new wiring to the AC-he never tried to reprogram the thermostat when it would not recognize the AC. The supervisor would not return my calls, I finally got ahold of him-all he said was "I apologize", no compensation for the failure of the company to provide the service I had already paid for. I question their education practices and workmanship. It saddens me that the ownership in such a huge error is not that important and I will now have to look for a different company to service my furnace and AC read more

Standout customer service, both on the phone and in person, and overall competence. These folks successfully diagnosed/troubleshot an issue with my home gas furnace that -might- have resulted (with a less-honest company) with replacing my admittedly aging furnace or making very spendy repairs. I'm very appreciative to be back in business with a warm house--and my wallet intact. If/when the time comes to buy a new furnace, Anctil will certainly be my first choice.
