I have been supporting this location for a while and each visit has been a pleasant one. The employees are friendly and patient especially if you need drink recommendations. There is a fairly short wait time after ordering your drink which is a plus when you are in a hurry. However, certain times are quite busy and the wait time is a bit longer. It wasn't overly sweet and it had a good ratio of ice to tea. There were nice good chunks of real mango. Most tea places do not give you real chunks of fruit like this place does. Years ago when I first had a salted cheese tea, I was ignorant - I stirred and mixed the salted cheese crema with the tea because I wanted it like a milk tea. I did not think much about these drinks because I felt they tasted average and I thought "what was the big deal?" I did not visit Happy Lemon for several years. Fast forward to last year when I met a friend here. My friend graciously informed me that to drink a salted cheese tea properly, I had to just sip without mixing. I'd taste the rich creamy salted cheese first, then the refreshing tea would come through and shine. The tea flavor would linger a bit, then repeat the process with every sip. 8 months later, not only am I a fan of salted cheese ("SC") teas, but I actually crave them more than the regular milk teas. These drinks are simple, but they have an added layer of complexity. Boba? No need since that would require a straw and I wouldn't be sipping on the drink. To me, the best way to enjoy this drink is sipping and no boba. With the recent boba shortage in the US, this would be my ideal drink without boba. The drinks I get here: oolong tea SC, black tea SC, green tea SC. My friend got me started on these salted cheese drinks and I'd never looked back... well, until this review :D Now I feel salted cheese teas are very different from regular milk teas. As a side note, a friend who is a boba owner said I liked cheap stuff since I preferred roasted oolong. He said roasted oolong is cheaper than black tea. Thus, I got a black tea SC today... I came in around ten mins to closing and the workers were cleaning up but super nice about it. The interior was super clean and didn't have a weird smell or anything. Our drinks were made super quickly too. I got grapefruit and yakult which I always recommend everyone- it's the only thing I get here. My friend got a tea with cream cheese foam. Always hear about Happy Lemon but never tried it until this week. Was driving by this mall and feeling thirsty, saw the sign, and it was providential! There was plenty of (free) parking right in front too. Almost like it was calling to me at my hour of liquid need! Good covid measures in place, big clear signs with markers on the floor for customers to social distance and limited capacity in the store. Workers worked fast and orders came out almost instantly. What I wish for is for them to have more variety of flavors and also less... um how do I say this... "lemony". Sure sure I know how ironic that is considering the name of this chain and that everything is centered around lemons. So that's on me for someone who doesn't crave lemons to begin with. But that tang just doesn't go with everything and sometimes a hint goes a long way rather than 1/2 the drink being drenched in that citrus, knowhatimean? Anyway, preferring something a little less tangy and more on the sweeter side, I settled for the mango-lemon slushy which came with lychee jelly. (My usual go to is mango or lychee slushy so this seemed like a good bet!). It was... ok. Again I think the lemon part was a bit too strong, but that's just my own taste buds maybe. The lychee jelly was a perfect touch though, yum. One last small gripe is wish they would transition to more sustainable straws and cups. All the big chains are catching on to being conscious about how much they contribute to plastic pollution, so would be good for a cool store name like Happy Lemon to do so too. The staff here is super friendly, the owner is really welcoming. The milk tea is perfect,just slightly sweet, and you can actually taste the tea, not just milk. A lot of places around here don't use fresh herbs, but they do, and it's super refreshing. The spring rolls are amazing, and the sauce isn't too sweet--just right. The banh mi was so good it felt like it was made with love, like something my mom would make (even though I'm not Vietnamese). Plus, they're not greedy with the fillings. Didn't know Happy Lemon moved since it's been a while, but decided to try this place out with my siblings. We both got the brown sugar milk tea with 75% sweetness and was very disappointed. The "tea" tastes just like milk and has no tea taste, and the brown sugar taste is very faint. We have happy lemon in San Jose, but I never bother to go because there's so many milk tea places. But I'm glad I dropped by this location because I appreciate that they were taking COVID protocols seriously, and it also looked like the store front was run by mom and daughter. I was impressed by how lightning quick the service was! It took around 2-3 minutes for them to finish both my friend's and my drinks. I ordered a taro milkshake with 25% sugar and soy milk substitute. You can definitely taste that it's made with fresh taro and I thoroughly enjoy having the taro pulp in it. There's really no need for boba and toppings, in my opinion. My friend got the lemon Yakult with aloe vera and she thought it was more on the tart side, but refreshing. First of all, I want to mention that this place is super clean and well maintained. They still request people to wear mask and if you dont have one, they are provided one to wear it. Had plenty of options to choose from and I went with the Mango Orange Milk Tea with Tira Misu Salted Cheese on top. The total was $7, the original price of the Mango Orange Milk Tea was $6 and when I added the Tira Misu it is $1 more. Not sure if it is justified. However, the taste and quality of the tea was amazing. As usual, I went with less ice and 50% sweet option and it was perfect. Felt really refreshing as it the sun was scorching hot outside. The size was also perfect. The Tira Misu Salted Cheese tasted yummy and the Mango Orange Tea flavor itself was great. This location is in a shopping plaza and seems to have a loyal local following. There were several repeat customers during my visit. They (a) were greeted with a familiar hello by the employee behind the counter and (b) knew exactly what to order. Yelpers are correct that the bubble waffle is made fresh to order. The milk tea can be made with non-dairy milk; this location offers both oat milk and soy milk options. Drinks are really sweet, even at 50%, so perhaps 25% might be better if you also prefer less sweetness. A year later, this is still my favorite boba place! My only problem with this place is that everything is so good that it's difficult to choose what to order! This is often my go-to place to catch up with friends or to grab a pick-me-up in the middle of the work day. I love that they combine fresh fruit juice and pieces in their teas and are constantly coming up with different beverage combinations. My most recent fave has been the fresh passion fruit mango green tea (25% sugar, less ice). It's refreshing and light and contains actual passion fruit seeds! The drinks I love (and usually have a hard time deciding on) includes: -Grapefruit yakult (25% sugar) -Grapefruit oolong tea (25% sugar) -Mango lemon slushy (50% sugar)- perfect for summer -Strawberry green tea- also perfect for summer -Fresh lemon green tea (50% sugar, any lower starts tasting like straight up lemon juice) -Salted cheese black tea- don't be scared of the "salted cheese"! It's really like a salted cream cheese foam and it pairs really well with tea. Try it! Another reason to love them is that their beverages are highly customizable. You can control the sugar level, ice level, and their menu clearly marks the beverages where you can even swap out the cream for a soy milk alternative. The store itself is brightly lit and kept pretty clean. There's a few tables to sit at inside and they don't mind if you stay for 2+ hours talking to your friends. There's never any problem with parking since it's right next to some big stores like Walmart and Tuesday Morning. Service has always been friendly and attentive. They care enough to warmly greet you when you first walk in through the door and they wipe the condensation from your drink cup before they hand it to you. (It's the little things.) Other things I love about them: You can check your order status on the TV monitor to see how much longer it'll take. Also, don't forget to ask for a rewards card (yes, it's an actual plastic card!).
