Being a car guy myself, it was important to understand the work being done. Rod at Universal did a fantastic job in all aspects of the repairs. I was given fair and accurate estimates, realistic timelines of when the work might be completed, and the communication was excellent. Out of curiosity, I called a couple other local repair shops after my work was completed to compare pricing, and they were all in the same ballpark. Worth noting is that Universal did not replace parts on my vehicle that did not need replacing, resulting in a final bill that was a little less than the original estimate. To me, that is definitely fair and honest. This repair shop is honest and reliable, with comparable prices. I will not hesitate to bring my vehicles back for future service and also refer friends and family to this business.

I'm coming to these guys for five years and was recommended this company by my brother-in-law who's been coming to them for a minimum of 10 years. Respectful, trustful and honest in an industry that is not always that way. I've been a mechanic since the 80s and I would recommend this company to anybody.

I called a couple shops in Grosse Pointe and there was no way I could afford what they quoted me. I got on NextDoor and posted that I needed a mechanic nearby who could help me and was reasonably priced. Three of the neighbors who replied told me that they have had their cars fixed at Pointe Auto Tech and overall they were all weirdly enthusiastic about this place. I called and spoke directly to the owner, Mike Murphy, and I explained my situation and at the time I did not know for sure it was my timing chain that was the problem but I was pretty sure it was. He said before I bring it in I should try a few things first to see if they helped because he said theres no reason to waste money if it's something I can fix myself. So yeah, that was really nice and it felt really good that he was trying to actually help me. So my trust level increased with him so I called back and he hooked me up with a great tow truck who took my car in. First thing he did was hook up one of those Snap-On computers to my car so he could check or test everything to see if there are any other issues. After a few other things, Mike confirmed that the timing belt broke. So I braced myself as he was getting ready to give me the quote and his plan to get me back on the road. His price was a couple hundred dollars than the places I spoke with prior but it was still an issue for me financially. I told him I could pay half now and the rest in about two weeks when I get paid. He told me that I didn't have to pay him until the car was fixed and ready to go. And as far as the timing situation, he said he understands and would work with me. He proposed that since his shop has so many cars to repair each day I could leave mine there and as it got closer to payday, he or one of his mechanics would start working on my car. Mike is amazing. He is very kind for doing this and its not something that I expected. Nobody cares anymore it seems but this place is the exception. Pointe Auto Tech is a genuine local auto repair shop with that strong neighborhood feel to it. Mike was very transparent upfront, broke everything that needed to be done for me and printed it and the estimate so there wouldn't be any surprises. In the end, he was able to save me some money in the process so his price came under what he quoted. I cannot recommend this place more highly. Since then, I bought another older model car and the guys at Pointe did the computer inspection and did all of the maintenance needed. I now bring both of my cars there for maintenance stuff like oil changes and tune-ups. My brother-in-law had a full brake job done at Pointe and he was very happy. Way better quality and less than Belle wanted to charge. I tell everyone I know about Mike and Pointe Auto Tech. P.S. I forgot to mention, he helped me get a rental with someone he knew at Enterprise. Enterprise is fantastic - they brought the car directly to me at the shop.

They treat you kindly, and with respect, and I can't complain about the big comfy couch in the waiting area. The customer napping in the waiting area told us that she has been a loyal customer for 22 years. That really says something in these days of swindling and crooked auto shops. After a recent tie rod installation, we felt that the Altima needed a front wheel alignment. When they saw that it didn't need one, they only charged us a small diagnostic fee and were honest in telling us that no alignment was needed. Many shops out there would have just done the alignment and charged us, or worse, exploited the already optimal alignment and act as if they aligned it since we requested one be done. We decided to put the diagnostic fee towards replacing the old and worn drive belt anyway, which also was a fair price. There may be some shops that are cheaper than Master Auto, but the cool thing about this place is that the folks really know what they're doing and they're honest people. They won't recommend you to do anything the car doesn't need. I would rather pay a middle of the road rate with a high caliber and honest shop, rather than be woo'ed by cheap shops that will falsify a laundry list of issues and scam you of hard earned money! We will definitely be returning to Master Auto for our vehicular needs! This is a great dealership replacement shop.

Needless to say about four months later because of all the engine oil burning and everything the engine finally seized at 88,000 miles. I wouldn't take a matchbox car to get repaired there.
