This is a really nostalgic place to have an elegant meal. The place was nicely restored and provided lots to look at during the meal. Service was very good and started out with fresh bread. Our order was taken promptly and our main meal was delivered in under 15 minutes. I ordered a steak with garlic mashed potatoes. The steak was made to order and had good flavor. The mashed potatoes were perfect, creamy with lots of butter. They were lightly garlic. The only drawback was the price. Bring your wallet. The quality and quantity were pretty balanced with the price. The menu was not so balanced with only a couple items under $25. We googled nice restaurants to visit downtown and Jake's Bar & Grill came up a few times so we decided to check them out. We had a party of 7 and luckily, they were able to seat us without a reservation. The restaurant was nice and clean. It was inviting and also a decent size. Once we were seated, we were immediately greeted by our waitress. Since this was our first time visiting Jake's, it seemed as though we were somewhat rushed to order our cocktails and food, but our waitress did share some great suggestions. I ordered the prosecco sangria cocktail. It was very light and refreshing. For my appetizer, I ordered the clam chowder soup. It was pretty good. It was very rich and creamy and definitely had a good helping of clams in it. For my entree, I ordered the 6 oz filet mignon with mash potatoes and broccolini. My entree was so good. The steak was seasoned well so I didn't even need steak sauce. The mashed potatoes were also buttery and creamy and the broccolini was delicious. I was too stuffed I couldn't even finish my food. Sat. night date night w the Mrs. & wanted to go to a nice spot that served steaks/meat. I did a lot of looking around & found Jake's. I made the reservation through OpenTable & mentioned it was the 1st time visiting & wanted a table away from the front door. We showed up 10 minutes early, and they sat us right away in a nice booth away from the door (they read the notes--good job), setting the tone for the dining experience. Food: We had the starter: Prawn & Scallop Rockefeller ($22) and you get 3. Never did appreciate odd-numbered apps, but our server was super quick to say we can add one more for just $5 upcharge (nudge nudge wink wink). For the Mains: I had the 13oz RibEye ($49.5.... C'm on... just make it $50 even), which came with a "slightly more than a scoop" of garlic mashed potatoes; they were whipped for sure. I also added the Peppercorn & Brandy Cream Sauce ($7 upcharge.... go figure). She had Jakes Slow Roasted Washington Double R Prime Rib (short name: 12oz Prime Rib, $36), cooked medium-rare, which came with 2 small stalks of broccolini. Came w/ a little ramikin of AuJus & horseradish cream (notice the word cream? it was extremely mild in flavor.. kind of a "hint" of horseradish). / This piece had a considerable amount of fat & it was definitely hard to cut. From the Shareable Sides, we went with the Sauteed Mushrooms in sherry garlic butter ($11). Cooked perfectly and the sherry flavor was noticeable. Desserts: Chocolate Lava cake w small scoop of vanilla ice cream. Super fugie-cakeie. Bananas Foster. One word: EPIC Service: Took a while to get our initial round of drinks, but aside from that, our server was super-pro (a veteran to the restaurant for sure!). And one thing to note: when my steak was delivered, I was asked to cut into it confirm it was cooked to my liking. Really appreciated that. Venue: While the place was totally packed, it wasn't loud; We could have a conversation with no issue. Overall: Great experience, great food, great service. Little bit on the pricy side, so know that going in. I'd say 4.5 if I could. We'll be back when we're craving steak/meat/chops. read more

Say what you will, but I love this place. And the original location, I'm glad they've been able to keep both. I've been coming here since I was a kid, liked it when it was the previous hotel, but who's counting. Inside is old Portland, wood, classic bar, big chairs and drinks and food. This is not your go-to for innovation, but just a classic, always great institution. Brunch can't be countered. 3$ mimosas! Hello! And the food is always up to expectations. I've had so many great times here from teens, to party 20s and well, where I'm at now. lol. I've even had staff recognize me from years past and say hello, when hadn't been in some time. Last week, I went in for an after lunch drink with a friend, and had a great time. Same great service as always. There's a lot of amazing places in downtown, but, there's only one, okay, two--Jake's. I love the great service and the hometown feel of this place. Been going here for a few years and know the drill with regard to most of their menu. Good bar food, happy hour specials, very delish soups, and decently priced drinks that make you want to just kick back and enjoy your time there. The waitstaff is remarkably efficient, quick to smile and offer info on the day's specials. Vancouver has a somewhat dubious rep when it comes to bar decorum, loud obnoxious types who think they are in their living room at game time are quite common, as are drunks with a belligerent tendency. I've been before, some time ago, and a real treat to rerun. Crowded Tuesday dinner, we walked around in and we're able to grab a table in the bar area next to the window. Same menu, same everything, just no reservations needed for this area. Classic looking on the inside with a solid team of servers. I came here for the first time Wednesday night and ate the best chicken & bacon sandwich I've ever had in my life. Totally blown away and wasn't expecting that from what I'd describe as a slightly divey sports bar. Drinks were fine and the bartender gave us table service even though we ordered at the bar so that was really sweet of her. It was way busier than I would have anticipated for a Wednesday night but it didn't have any impact on my experience. Food and drinks were prompt af. I noticed they stay open until 10pm and have pull tabs & a pool table and a lot of tvs. Interesting spot. I'd like to come back and try their prime rib night! read more

I'm surprised this place doesn't have a higher rating. I've only eaten there a few times, but they have the best tuna melt I've ever had. My fiancé, who eats burgers for almost every meal, says they have the best burger he has had in Vancouver (we moved here a year ago). My son likes the French dip And the steak tips. Prices are about the same as everywhere else, which is high compared to where I used to live but not high for Vancouver. Service was good when we ate at the restaurant. Our server was Molly. She did an awesome job taking care of my group. I brought in about 18 folks to hang out and socialize. I am from out of town, Florida to be exact. We arrived and took over the billiards room. She was right on top of her game and stayed interactive with us all night - we arrived at 6 PM, we left after the last call announcement. I am a regular here and you may find me with a group of friends every Wednesday. The service is fantastic. It's a nice place to take friends and have a cold one. Jakes is actually a pretty nice place to meet with people, socialize and play pool. The show-stopper is, they allow customers with dogs on the tables and knowingly let them eat off customers plates. Don't get me wrong, i love dogs, but it's a pretty serious heath issue with chahuahuas are running around on the table top and eating scraps off the plates.... we won't be eating there anymore.... read more

Jake's is the kind of bar that was so popular in the NW back in the eighties, lots of beer drinkers, pool shooters, locals from the hood, and decent food with much improved service. Pre-covid they were really going to great lengths to serve flavorful but fairly priced chow, but now they're vaxed up and back in the saddle, but-- the menu lacks some of the good o'l dishes like the hamburger steak with gravy, We go there for the excellent salads and burgers, and very attentive service even when the place is packed and the wait staff a few people short. Bars suffer the usual upsets of constant change in the kitchen, and Jake's has had their share of ups and downs in that regard, but overall, they aim to please an we have a go to place when we just want a quick bite and a cold drink..Some night's it's just absolutely packed, and I figure that many people can't be wrong for long.. read more

This place felt like home. It's very spacious. They have a bar that has pool tables a juke box and lottery! Can you say one stop shop! Also their menu looked good. I came in on a Wednesday I tried the dollar tacos! Yummy they were ground beef with lettuce. Cheese, tomato's and server with a pack of taco sauce. Great little touch I might add! Since it was Halloween I did dress up and got a nice little gift for doing so! That's was a nice surprise! Overall the people were so nice and the staff was fantastic. I have eaten there many times because it is close. The food is alright usually but the service is consistently average to poor. Two times they have screwed up. First time was about a year ago. The place was nearly empty. I ordered pancakes and they never came. The waitress was disinterested. I walked into the kitchen and they never got the order. Pancakes came out they were fine but the more was no syrup. I had to go back to the kitchen again. I talked to the manager and they comped the meal. Second time was Dec 3, 2022 My coworker and I had breakfast. The bartender was our server. He wouldn't leave the bar so I had to go get him and ask him to take our order. Someone else delivered the food The order was all screwed up. My friend never got his toast. I told the bartender and he said he would take care of it but he never did. He was not busy but never left the bar. He never checked on us. I told the woman at the front who is always friendly. She talked to him but he still didn't take care of it. My friend never got his toast or his correct order. Then the bill had charged for different food then what was delivered or ordered. I put $40 on the table and we just left. read more

I'm not one who typically leaves reviews. I'm usually the one reading them! I work with people. People are my thing! Specifically in business and work settings. First thing I noticed that is going to kill potential profit, killed our time a bit as well, was the attitude of an employee acting out in plain sight. When you're serving/hosting, all eyes are on you. You're the face of the company. You represent your team. We all have bad days but talking loudly to yourself passive aggressively where even with music and people at the bar and seated down can hear you? That's a middle finger to everyone else in that company. Oh boy. I heard hearsay that this woman was a manager. I'm not sure if she was but she had an entry level employee attitude. If she was a a manger, that's the example she's setting for her team? Not to mention it's killing the energy and vibe from customers. She wouldn't look us in the eye to tell us that we didn't have to come up the bar to order (We're new but I totally get it. Unfortunately, I waited more than 20min for a server and was hungry lol) I also understood we had a new server? I get it. Been there! I'm making an assumption that the frustration of this "manager" was either something personal (very unprofessional to bring to work) or had to do with the server. If it was with us, then there's a system breakdown in her staff and the establishment that requires correcting ASAP My first thought was, well who trained this new server? Who followed up to make sure she understood? How long was she watched? Does she have some sort of daily checklist she follows so she can self check herself. Is anyone correcting her in the moment or let her do things wrong and only notice now that you let the leash go too soon? Did you hire the right person? The server had a great attitude! The lady behind the bar with a poor attitude is gonna kill business. As a manager myself, I would have sent her home. Heck no are you bringing business down with that crap. Funny enough, whatever her frustration was, she made a "mess" for another woman behind the bar to clean up with customers. Because of her out burst, we instantly felt like she didn't want to be there, didnt care to help us, and could care less if we left. The woman behind the counter with her jumped in with smiles and assured us that the making and groaning behind her wasn't directed at us. She went above and beyond to make it right Warning, write up, and set expectation for that person and stick to it. If they're a manager, that is not manager material. The food was great tho! I enjoyed my time. I celebrated a friends 70th birthday. I was appreciative of the smiles from the other team members and accommodating the surprise that was set up!:) read more

Jake's is a wonderful place to come for family dinners, or to escape with your friends after work for a cold beverage and great food. Angela or Deaun will make you feel like you are at home the minute you walk in and the food is always good. They always have amazing daily specials and soups, but I always come back to the French dip. Not bad and not amazing, buy worth your time. As I recently moved into the neighborhood my wife and I were looking for a nice local place to grab some simple bar food and a drink. Jake's has been there for several years so we decided to give it a go. Parking is something of an issue there, to start. Though the location is quite large, designated parking is not particularly clear and we had to park by a nearby, closed, barber. Upon entering the bar area we sat ourselves and had to eventually flag down someone to help us get our evening started. Granted, it was a Thursday night, but the staffing seemed fairly light and as such the customer service was a bit lacking. We eventually had someone help us and take our drink order. The beer and alcohol selection was about average for what you would expect at a PNW establishment of this size with everything on tap from Coors to Boneyard RPM. The happy hour menu was a diverse grouping of well priced munchables that will help coat the stomach for an evening of jolliness. The regular menu, quite varied (including a Liver and Onion dinner) was well priced and offered all the basics as well as a few well constructed specialty items (see the Londoner). We decided to order the Reuben and the Philly. it is here where disappointment set in. Half of my recent was filled with corned beef, the other half....mostly filled with sauerkraut. My wife's Philly was more of a French dip with some sautéed veggies than the nice crispness of a Philly (it was served with a tasteless au jous). The fries were clearly pulled from a freezer and probably spent their life in a giant brown bag until they were submerged in boiling oil and placed on our plate. The lacking of flavor extended there. The one distinctive light was a squirt bottle given to us with the ketchup and mustard. It was some random brown sauce that tasted vaguely of cocktail sauce, but better in every way. Sadly, this was the highlight in our neighborhood dining experience. Seating is ample and they have a fenced outdoor area, but I can't say that there was anything remarkable about Jake's. It does the job of getting you a cold drink and edible food in more or less a timely fashion. Dont, however, expect to be blown away by any aspect of your adventure here. read more

Pool League was last night so visited Jake's for the first time. Very large place with windows throughout. Bright and Clean. Pretty decent menu of various Burgers, Sandwiches, Salads and Entrees such as Fish and Chips, Fried Scallops, Meatloaf, etc. Everyday has a different soup of the day and Clam Chowder and Chili served daily. I opted for the Chef Salad. Two options, Large or Small. I opted for the Small. It was around $7 but plenty filling. Loaded with Ham, Turkey, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Boiled Egg. Comes with choice of Dressing or Salsa and extra is about $.40. I chose the Salsa and Ranch then dumped some of my brother's Franks Hot Sauce on it and Nom Nom Dinner. Came with two pieces of Garlic Toast. Later in the night I had their Tortilla Soup. Filling enough with Chicken and Squash. The server Angela topped it with Tortilla Strips and Cheese. Probably could have used some lime juice to acid it up, but the flavor was palatable. I did ask for a side of Frank's and that kicked it up a few notches. Wasn't the best I've had but it was good enough. As for service. Angela - 5 Stars, she was very attentive, constantly stopping by to refill or carry away plates. After she left around 9:30 a new server came on and I ordered a Beer. 30 minutes later, she was no where to be found, so I walked over to the bar and found her asked for another beer and that was the last time I saw her the rest of the night. When I needed another and could not find her I went and asked the bartender and apparently she left for the night. Let me get this straight, my server who was barely attentive, leaves for the night and doesn't even ask me if I want to close out my check or notify me she's leaving? Wow. The Couve can surprise sometimes. This is a local pub, clean, friendly and attentive service. We had the Saturday night special which is a 6oz Sirloin from the butcher across the street (delicious), three breaded shrimp, choice of baked or mashed, and garlic toast. They allowed us to swap the potato for a very fresh salad! It's laid back, middle-aged and older working class locals. Sports TV, pool tables and a very nice bar section. The owner put some money into the place. They serve pitchers of beer and our favorite Hefeweizen (4 pints) for $13.00!! We both enjoyed the meal, service, and price. We will be back! read more

Very disappointed in Jakes. This has always been a go-to, but not tonight. Service was exceptionally slow, and there were empty tables (so I know they weren't slammed). Took literally an hour for a hamburger that arrived cold and sad looking. Probably sat out on kitchen counter. Waitress apologized saying kitchen backed up... for whom? No "busboys" showed up to take salad plate; no water refill. As I write this, my food has been finished for 15 minutes... and no server in sight to ask about dessert or offer the bill. I walked up to the reception to ask for help. I'm sorry Jakes, but we are no longer friends. You're off my list. read more
