After seeing the reviews & pics, I figured I had to give the place a try. I try to pit beef ham combo sandwich my son tried the ribs. The sandwich was good although I prefer my roast beef not be so rare and I tried one of the ribs and I was disappointed in how tough they was. I had to literally bite it, turn my head and try and rip the meat off the bone. (That's not my idea of a good rib.) The bottom line is if I'm in the area I might get the sandwich again but I'm definitely steering clear of those ribs. read more

Hadn't been here since the pandemic. Stopped there last week to pick up dinner. No disappointment. The sandwiches are always a good value for the money. NO ONE can touch their overstuffed smoked sandwiches. I wish they had corn beef it would definitely stop my expensive trips downtown. I got the turkey and had plenty to make two out of one. Also got a half rack of plenty ribs sauce on the side. I'm not big on their rub but it's just me. I prefer my ribs pretty plain. Didn't try the sides but will on my next visit very soon!!! Unfortunately this is a business that I have supported for years and highly recommended to people. , I went there today to get some sausages and pit beef to take to a cookout, the guy working there was so rude and nasty because I did not order ahead of time and once I did wanted to add something else he rudely told I needed to order everything at one time . The Cashier COMMITTED CREDIT FRAUD AGAINST ME! The person that serviced me at the takeout last night, literally gave me my receipt, rushed me out the store, as it was around closing. Then, after I left, he STOLE A 20% Tip that I didn't authorize off of my credit card!!!!! I found out about 30 minutes later, when I went to another store, and realized I didn't have enough to pay for the next purchase. Checked my account, and that's when I saw that he Committed Fraud against me, via falsely authorizing a 20% tip to himself. WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION. I'd didn't EAT, IN, nor have I ever eaten In, because there's only OUTSIDE SEATING, with no waiters or waitresses! At this juncture, I know whom the person is, and for that small amount of money, I WILL HAVE HIM ARRESTED! Check your records when you leave, to ensure this person didn't commit fraud against you other customers as well! Because once I left, it's when I saw that he gave me their MERCHANT COPY, and not my original. Based on the great reviews, on Oct 29 my wife and I decided to get ribs from Jake's Grill. When we pulled up, it certainly looks and smells the part of a great Q restaurant. We bought an entire rack. What we were given were St Louis style ribs which consisted of 4 ribs and 7 rib tips. For the uninitiated, the tips on a St Louis rib are mostly gristle and bone. The ribs themselves had a very feint smoke ring, almost no taste other than the sauce. More important was that the ribs and tips were very tough and chewy. In short they were barely edible. They had not been cooked low and slow, but had been grilled. I have eaten ribs all over the country, north to south and east to west. These were the worst ribs I have ever eaten and we certainly were not given a rack, but a box of mostly tips. This was a terrible experience read more

This is a nice little gem found on the back roads. I was tired of eating from chain food restaurants across the street from my business park so my coworker suggested I checked this place out. I'm glad I did! I ordered a chicken sandwich and mac & cheese. Total came to around $7 and you get a lot of food. The chicken sandwich was everything. Perfectly smoked and didn't contain any unnecessary salt or additives like most restaurants put in their food. The Mac & cheese tasted a little bit like the blue box Kraft Mac & cheese (which is ok because on lazy days, stove top Mac & cheese is the way to go). I was honestly hoping for some real baked macaroni though. The staff was very fast and friendly. There's an area for you to eat inside as well. Overall, would recommend and return. read more

Not sure how the Pit Beef gets Rave Reviews, but my sandwich was VERY Tough And Chewy. Ordered Medium. I don't know if is it how it is sliced or low quality meat. I contemplated exchanging for something else but had a feeling workers would not oblige my request. It was edible, but not that enjoyable. First time for everything and Pit Beef won't be it again. Even if Jake didn't always give me ( and all females) a carnation when I came in, I would love this place. The fragrance of the smoker surrounds this place like a halo. Come early in the day for the juiciest selections and order wings, if desired, ahead. Get the sauce on the side so that you can enjoy the great rub flavors. If the wonderful aroma overcomes one's self control, they do have picnic tables to indulge one's purchase immediately before the lovely fragrance tempts you for its bag in your passenger seat. read more

Food was fast and delish and piled HIGH! Service was super friendly. Decor leaves a lot to be desired, but that was what made it so cool! We ate outside and enjoyed the incredible aromas of smoked meats that wafted over us when the wind was right. My turkey was superb and my wife had the beef piled high. The Mac and cheese was delish. My wife want partial to the Cole slaw she had with too much fennel seeds for her liking. I loved it. To each his own. People watching and dog watching was also a great time. Unfortunately I don't like my meat cooked with charcoal or at high temp. You can tell because the fat isn't rendered down and the meat taste like Kingsford charcoal and you and taste the fuel accelerant. Amazing pit beef. This place can be hard to find but once you find it you won't forget it. Everything is smoked fresh in house and it's amazing. There aren't a ton of options but if you can get the beef and the ribs you can't go wrong. The ribs are smoked and are perfect. Jake's menu is simple. You have the pit sandwiches (beef, chicken, turkey, and ham), ribs, and two sides (cole slaw and/or mac & cheese). The prices are very reasonable. We ordered a pit beef sandwich, pulled pork, a half rack of ribs, two sides of mac & cheese, and a drink and it came in under 30 dollars. That's a LOT of food. read more

Pulling up, the first thing you will notice is the mish-mash of furniture outside, along with the grills haphazardly sitting under an awning blocking the front of the building. Walking inside reveals an even more haphazard array of tables and chairs, no two are alike. At this point you would be tempted to turn around and go back out. You would be severely wrong to do this. The pit beef sandwich was loaded, the smoked flavoring was amazing, it had the perfect level of pink, all loaded on a soft fresh bun. This is, BY FAR, the best pit beef sandwich I've ever had. The sausages have the perfect level of spiciness to them and are delicious without a single condiment on them. Once settled in and enjoying g the food, I started to feel the comfortable 'vibe' that this little place gives off This place is the very definition of both a 'hole in the wall's and 'hidden gem' I plan on stopping by every single time I am in the area again. Oh wow! I was looking for something quick before a doctor's appointment. I saw this and decided to give it a try. Holy moly!! It was quick, affordable, and DELICIOUS! The pork was amazing! I got a bun wrapped in foil, and then was handed a pint deli-style container of of pork. I grabbed a cup of BBQ sauce and headed out. When I checked out, the cashier handed me fresh flowers. It's a little out of the way, but man, this place was AMAZING. I dare say the pit turkey was better than Chap's with an incredible wood-smoked flavor. The ribs were among the best I've ever had and for once I'm glad I ordered too much food because I can't wait for leftovers. The place is in the middle of the countryside, with no buildings across of it. The nearest stores are past the naked eye. Furnishing and decor seem less of a focus both inside and out. That said, the theme of this place is to bbq, nothing more. The bbq pit can be seen up front before entering the building. I'll start from the least: cole slaw and Mac n cheese. The cole slaw was seasoned good, but it's not my favorite because there's too much celery powder in the seasoning (not a big fan of a strong celery taste). The Mac n cheese was alright, pretty straightforward and simple. Pulled pork was decently seasoned and cooked. The tangy spicy bbq sauce available worked perfect with the pulled pork though. The sauce was closer to a tangier, thicker, and deeper flavored version of sambal sauce. Next, the two sausage rolls were perfectly seasoned and topped with grilled jalapeños and onions. The surface had just the right crunch and the consistency was slightly softer but better than the average sausage served at bbq pits. It also wasn't dry which was another plus. Last, the ribs. You could see the nice smoke rings in those ribs. The cook gives the option of having ribs as is or rubbed wet with sauce. We had it rubbed because I'm blasphemous. The rib was tender, smoked, charred, and flavorful messy eats. To be clear, it's not cooked low and slow so not all the meat will be perfection. The thin ends will probably be harder and drier. Definitely going to try again for the other dishes and to eat some good bbq again. read more

The best damn BBQ you'll find in Hunt Valley! Jake's Grill is a blink and you'll miss it restaurant, that's more shack than building hidden among farming equipment rental signs that cover up any advertisement for the food, but one smell of the meat scented air is all the proof you need that there is good eatings to be had! The tiny room that serves as both the kitchen, checkout line, and seating area is filled with handwritten specials, and bustling with employees trying to move meat to grill to plates as fast as they can keep up with the orders. At $5 an average meal, you can expect a ton of high quality pork, chicken, and beef piled high on a plate or bun, with a small table of trimmings and sauces to customize your meal the way you want. The pork and beef are by far the biggest sellers, and my mouthfuls of both can attest that they earned their fame. I hadn't tried the ribs, but only because I have so much room in my stomach, but you can bet that I'll enjoy those too on my next visit. Don't expect fancy service or trendy scenery. Boy, am I in trouble now. I had a brain fart, hopped in the car and went to Jakes after the wife said she'd make me lunch.
