Jak's...what happened?! One of the things you proudly promoted on your menu was "All our portions are large & dinners come complete with a fresh green salad, seasonal veggies, fresh bread, and your chose of potato". I get restaurants have to change with the times, but do you have to completely change who you are?! This has been of our favorite date night restaurant. Good food, good prices, good portions. Or that's what it used to be. It used to always be a wait to get a seat on a weekend night. We made reservations for Friday night at 6pm. While we were there around 7 we noticed a lot of empty tables - maybe they were between dinners? We've been going here for over 10 years (Over 15 years if you include the location by UW). We've sung your praises to everyone over the years. We used to be able to get a full meal for one price. That included bread, salad, huge side of vegetable, potato, and steak. Now we've had to ask for bread the last few times (it's always been served ahead of time, so not sure if they've "forgot" or what but we've had to ask the last few times for it). The vegetable has been removed from the base price and so has the salad. Prices used to be a lot more reasonable, especially since it included everything. I get prices have gone up (from $28 for a NY Steak 11 years ago to $60 for a NY Steak). Now a New York steak is only $12 less than the New York you would get at the Metropolitan Grill - both include a potato side. You used to have a "Jaks size" and a normal size for steaks. Now it is one size only. You must have just removed the artichoke dip as it's still on the website menu but not the menu in restaurant - we always got this! We were looking forward to getting this again. We asked the waitress about it and got a fairly short answer that they don't have it anymore. This set you apart from Melrose for us (since I don't eat seafood) as Melrose doesn't have any appetizers. Now for about the same price you can get a steak, veggie, salad, and potato at Melrose for the same price as your steak and potato. Don't get me wrong, the steak is still great (and whoever seasoned it and cooked it last night did a great job - a lot better than the last few times we went and it was missing some flavor), the service overall is great (our waitress was a bit short but may have been a cultural attitude - everyone else was great), wine options are great. We just miss the value the restaurant used to provide (and the artichoke dip - can you bring this back?!). read more

Time for an update after multiple stellar return visits. I get all the hype and love for Jak's now. This place is consistent. Like, every subsequent meal here has been great. Service is fabulous, the food is always good and our steaks are always prepared perfectly. On our last visit, we were notified that they recently changes/updated their menu and concept a bit. In an attempt to elevate their menu, they've added some new menu items (wagyu) and even removed some (halibut). Steaks still come with sides, but it's not just your regular potatoes, carrots and broccoli. You can get mac & cheese, sauteed wild mushrooms, crispy brussels sprouts and grilled asparagus, to name a few. We will definitely continue to dine here whenever that steak craving hits. read more

I was super disappointed in the menu changes. The halibut was always my favorite and I was disappointed that it was no longer on the menu along with some of their other signature items. There is no longer any chicken items on the menu and for people that don't like steak or seafood there aren't a lot of options. The service here is always great and really the wait staff is the only reason I gave it 3 stars because they are so great. I don't know why you would change something that was working. We tried JaK's 15 years ago and weren't impressed. Re-tried it again several years ago and were pleasantly surprised. We're big fans of neighborhood steakhouses like JaK's, Melrose Grill, and The Keg (back when those were around). We understand businesses need to operate and costs increase, but as another reviewer mentioned, it feels like you get barely anything for what you pay for now. $60 for a steak and potatoes, no veggie, no salad. To say the $11 caesar salad is a disappointment is an understatement. Tonight we had to ask for bread - they don't just bring it, they don't offer it, you have to ask for it. We've had hit or miss experience with the quality of the food both in the cuts themselves and/or how they're prepared the last few visits. I usually order medium and my husband orders medium-well, yet sometimes his comes out more red than mine. Tonight's service was a huge disappointment. Our waitress must be newer and she was not very good at reading the table (I say this as someone who waited tables). No check on how things were until we were 2/3 the way done with our food and she kept taking my dishes when I was still working on them. Of course then when we're ready to check out, it took several minutes for her to come by despite visiting the tables around us multiple times. So we spent $220 tonight for a dinner for 2 adults & 1 toddler. From here on I think we're going to stick with steaks at home from Costco and when we want something nice then we'll spend a little extra to enjoy something at El Gaucho, Daniel's Broiler, The Met, or even John Howie. Maybe we'll try JaK's again in a few years and hopefully by then they'll have found a sweet spot where customers don't feel like we're paying too much for too little with a mediocre experience. read more

Had a really great visit to Jak's last night, just before a show at the Village Theater. Haven't been to this location for some time, but will be more frequent now that Laurelhurst is closed. Parking was not an issue, despite construction right around Jak's, but very cool that they emailed us beforehand to make us aware of it - nice touch. The restaurant was packed at 5:30 on a Friday, which was great to see. We had reservations and were seated within about 5 minutes. Seating is comfortable, and you can easily manage table conversation due to the high-backed booths screening out neighbor-sound. We had waters and our first visit for drink orders almost immediately. Had a great cross-section of orders, with crab-cakes, steak salad, wedge, quinoa salad, filet, Delmonico, and steelhead filet. The food was prepared to perfection, and presentation was as expected. I recommended the Delmonico to my adult son, and explained it's one steak cut that no two restaurants can really agree on (bone-in ribeye, strip, or chuck eye). He commented to our waitstaff that it was the best he'd ever had. I *think* their version is a bone-in strip end,where it joins the rib-eye, but maybe they'll tell me if they see this. Crispy skin on the steelhead was delightful, and the crb cakes were great. SHOCKER OF THE NIGHT: Quinoa Salad!! Now normally I would use dry quinoa as traction to get me out of a snowbank, BUT, this was the lightest, most tender and flavorful grain salad I've ever had. Very finely minced cucumber, and mango, and feta, and MAGIC. Was the unanimous star of the show for this table of meat-eaters! Another year, another wellington. Every year, the beef wellington shows up onHoliday Menu; this is our 3rd year. In addition, we got the shareable scallops, and the chocolate marmalade bread pudding dessert; both on the Holiday Menu. I also got the 6oz new york steak. Getting the obvious out of the way, the wellington was amazing as always. Thin, flaky bread, a nice filet mignon, gruyere, prosciutto, mushroom duxelle, and a rich gravy. The combination is hard to duplicate. The scallops appetizer was pretty good. It came with shaved brussel sprouts made into kind of a miso vinegar slaw, a burre blanc and crispy fried prosciutto. It was a little too salty. If the rice vinegar was cut in half, it would probably even out a bit. But the scallops, themselves were pretty good. My usual steak is a ribeye, but its been a while, so I got the new york. It was ok. I wish I could say it was better, but it was just ok. It was a bit over cooked, and there was a bit of gristle going through it. But it had good flavor, and several bites were pretty decent. The potato sides were good. Nothing special. The dessert was very good. On the holiday menu, the dark chocolate marmalade bread pudding with cream friache ice cream. The bread pudding was pretty good. The ice cream was AMAZING! Cream friache is my new favorite ice cream flavor... . All in all, I gotta say, our last visit was a little better. We will keep coming back for the wellingtons, thats for sure. read more

The most expensive mediocre meal I have ever been to. Old fashioned served with a cup of ice, not one giant ice cube. That was my first warning sign. If it is one big ice cube, you are in for a wonderful meal. A cup of ice cubes, you are about to be fleeced. The filet mignon "Oscar style" was devoid of seasoning. Even the bearnaise sauce lacked flavor. The crab was not fresh. The onion rings and salad were the only delicious part of the meal. My mother had the clam linguine. She said it was bland. My wife had the french dip, she said, "It's okay..." Only two alcohol drinks, no appetizers, and no dessert the bill was $230 for a meal that was on par with a Sizzler restaurant. I used to love this place but it seems like every time I come there's new changes that have negatively impacted the experience. I visited on Wednesday and was disappointed to find out that the steak now only comes with one side and vegetables don't count. I ordered the mushrooms which used to be a favorite of mine and I couldn't even eat a full mushroom, they were disgusting and looked old. My steak was poorly seasoned which was also disappointing. We ordered the peach cobbler for my husband's birthday which we were given on the house and that was really nice but the peaches were very bland. I expect more from a high priced steakhouse such as JaK's. The ambiance is super dark but loud and crowded. I'm sad to say I likely will not be returning. read more

Have a little bar as well I usually can get seated there quickly. You might need a reservation for prime time Friday and Saturday hours. The food is delicious. But, 2 weeks in a row, we have had problems with our reservations. We always request a booth beforehand. The first week, we sat 40 minutes past our reservation time and the second week, they gave our table away to someone else. So we sat again. You would think we would have been offered a free app etc.... Not sure we will be back for awhile. Not until they can do a bit better with reservation times and seating. JaK's Grill - Issaquah Was recommended by a friend that eats there regularly. Took my parents to celebrate there 73 wedding anniversary.. They say first impressions of any establishment speaks loud about the place.. We made reservations get there on time and was seated. I went to the check on the car that it was locked . When I returned I noticed that my parents still had their coats on.. they both told me that they could feel a cold draft from the vent that was right above them.. looking around to see if there where any available open tables I saw that there was several tables open.. so I went back up to the hostess and ask her if she could move us to a warmer tables like the one right behind her.. she told me she couldn't put us to another table and that the one I was asking about was reserved for party's of 6 people and I was a party of 4.. the third tables from the left side at the rear of the restaurant is where we were sitting.. well I was not going to let my parents sit under a cold draft. And the hostess wouldn't move us to another tables.. I even ask the server to move us to other tables.. i move then to a warm table.. It took about 45 minutes to get our order had to ask twice for water and bread well we waited.. food came to the table warm to almost cold.. . I told the hostess and the waiter why we where there. 《To celebrate there 73 wedding anniversary) Just terrible service all around.. What I did share with them is that I was with a NYC executive Chef at a 3 start Michelin restaurant and my friend that recommended me said that this place was one of or even the best place to eat within 50 miles Even though our bill came out to over $400 in food and drinks.. It was definitely garbage service all around.. even the Chef told me this place is like eating at a fast food establishment.. he told me besides the terrible service..the food could of arrived to the table hot.. and they even failed at that.. if it wasn't for my 91 year old dad and my 90 year old mom I would of demanded to speak to the owner of this establishment.. but it was cold my parents flew in from southern California and their grandson who is a Chef flew in to celebrate his grandparents anniversary from NYC..for the week. I've frequented Jaks since they opened in Issaquah and have always loved it. We went tonight and I was surprised by the menu changes. Entrees come with either potatoes or a salad. In the past entrees came with potatoes, a vegetable and a salad. And I was able to get the crab cakes as an entree in the past. I had to order the crab cakes, and a side vegetable and a side potato pancake. And....no bread service was offered- that is another first. To say it was a bit lackluster is an understatement, my table mates loved their steaks- still great. But, I will say other local steakhouses still offer bread service, potato, salad and vegetables included with your meal. I will be frequenting the other local places more in the future. read more

I've been coming to Jak's for years and it's just a reliably good and lively place. It's a little dark inside, so if that kind of ambiance makes you uncomfy, try coming for lunch or earlier in the day. Their steaks are delicious and always cooked to the temperature I request. Pro tip: order the ufo for a single potato pancake on top of some mashed potato's -- so good. For me, their cocktails are nicely balanced and their appetizer salads are chilled a fresh. We've always gone for brunch (excellent) but recently went for dinners. Love their beef Wellington (seasonal) and their world famous cheeseburger - rated one of ten best in the country and it's true. You'll be hard pressed to find anything as good in Seattle (John Howie's burger if great but more expensive). You can Jaks burger for just $10 during happy hour in bar. Jak's Grill receives much praise in Issaquah and deservedly so! First, I highly recommend reservations. Jak's is popular - super, super popular. Waiting at the cross walk I watched eight people walk into the restaurant. It was packed inside. People were waiting. Plan ahead and reserve a table. We didn't plan ahead and ended up in the bar as that was the only place available. I typically like bars but the seat density was a bit much. A woman sat beside me and she continuously elbowed me and pushed against me as she turned to talk to her group. It was obnoxious. I couldn't recommend sitting at the bar. The bartender was wonderful. He was working nonstop the entire time and still managed to make wonderful drinks. Being that he was so amazingly busy he wasn't able to be solely focused on the people in front of him. I had to interrupt his flow a few times to order food or drinks, which I don't blame him since he was just so busy. He was always super nice and responsive. The drinks were great too! The bartender had a comprehensive knowledge of cocktails and the ingredients to make every cocktail I thought of and wanted. It was fantastic! The hamburger dip was also very nice! I don't think think the restaurant does a good job of communicating a higher tier of dinning vs the overall presentation of the restaurant. I'm Huge on smell and it was very unappealing walking into To the restaurant if you have carpet in your establishment that takes a lot of upkeep it just smelled old in there along with being very dark frumpy and unpleasant. For the cost they are charging for food some good maintenance should be done. Not sure if they are trying to go for 5 star steak house or we have a good location soo no matter matter what people are going to come here thinking this is fancy kind of vibe. We ended up in down town Redmond after going here went to Prime stake-house and it was 1000 times better and we had dinner there instead. My friend had really enjoyed dinner here once, so wanted to meet me her for dinner. We got here at 4pm for happy hour, which is 4pm-5pm on Mondays through Thursdays. We decided to both start of with the Pineapple Express cocktails, which were not on the happy hour menu, and the Calamari Steak Crisps and Brussels Sprouts off the happy hour menu. The Pineapple Express drinks were tasty. The Calamari Steak Crisps could have used some more seasoning on the batter. And the dipping sauce had a very light flavor, so the calamari tasted a bit plain and needed a lot of the squeezed lemon. The Brussels Sprouts were good, but my friend said it tasted better the last time she had it. We decided to get another round of drinks, and my friend ordered the Maple Whiskey Sour, which she liked. I asked for a Paloma, and it tasted nothing like a Paloma; I tasted weird. But service was very friendly, and still enjoyed my time here. read more

I heard the other locations are good too but this one is the best! The steak bites were the perfect appetizer. The sauce is so rich and creamy, I could dip anything in it and I would be happy! The Works Wedge Salad was so good, not too overwhelming despite the amount of bleu cheese they gave us. I think most people go here for the steak but we decided to try their Bourbon Pork Chop just for a change. We were hesitant at first coz most pork chops we've had in the past were super dry and needed a lot of oil and sauce to bring it back to/give it life. The burger was good but who needs that if you have the pork chop! The server was so nice! Brought a party of eight here for Sunday brunch after a hike. Three of us ordered pear martinis which were lovely. Definitely was a good pour from the bartender although I think what would have been nice would have been a little slice of pear or something other than just the martini in the glass. All of our meals were wonderful. I ordered the skillet casserole with the biscuit and gravy on the side and would definitely order it again. Service was great, presentation was wonderful and everyone loved their food. Pictures tell the whole story. Didn't think this place could top our wedding night dinner. Came back today officially one year since we said, "I do". Yet again amazing service. Even better if you have a reservation. It takes two minutes to check. Professional staff. The greeter does her job well. The waitress super friendly and helpful. Could carry a conversation. We discussed those pear martinis at length because taking a dip of it was like taking a bite of a pear tart. The appetizers were AMAZING. Calamari steak strips breaded to perfection. Light and crispy and perfectly seasoned. With a light lemon caper aioli. Southwest Artichoke dip was flavorful and delicious. That was finished instantly. My entree was the Bourbon Pork Chop. Wow that glaze and the size of the pork chopper. You get what you pay for. So tasty. My husband's dinner was the short ribs and they were flavorful and tender. Who doesn't love brunch? Stopped by to celebrate a birthday and was pleasantly surprised. There isn't a parking lot so you'll have to find street parking. Reservations aren't required but it's a good idea to make them. The service was very good. We had the steak and eggs, country fried steak, and sweet steak hash. The steak was perfectly cooked and juicy in all 3 dishes. The biscuit was huge and extra fluffy and the potatoes had very good flavor. We will absolutely be back to try the dinner menu. read more
