In Seattle for a few days. Checked with a few friends who are locals, and they all said that Jak's was a worthwhile stop for a steak. "Go to the Issaquah location." I, of course, being the contrarian, elected for West Seattle instead. Glad I made a reservation. There was a street faire (or is it "fair"?) or party that Friday night. It was tough to physically enter the restaurant. Once inside, noticed many fair attendees trying to get seated and their long waits for a tables. To repeat: Glad I made a reservation. Started with the wedge salad. Egggscellent. My NY strip cooked eggggsactly as requested. Beautiful char on the exterior, but red interior. Flavor, texture, and a happy patron. Chris ordered the boneless rib-eye and enjoyed that steak. The "breads and spreads" was wasted on us. We ate it all, as Jak's charges for the small plate, but it seemed kinda janky as the various spreads were mostly the same (just displayed in different poses). Connor, our server, never seemed to get the whole idea of pacing. He was on top of us and then disappeared for what seemed like 45 minutes when we needed (yes, needed) black pepper or a new utensil (I dropped my fork on the floor and it was so dark could not find it). Other staff, such as the bus-people, promised to send him over but my steak was gettin' old and cold. Eggggsacerbating. The total, with all the sides and booze, was reasonable until Jak's added the mandatory tip (common in Seattle, and here 20% of the pre-tax total). Maybe that eggggsplained why Connor was a bit too attentive early and then disappeared for that long stretch when we needed him most. Would go again, but maybe not on a busy Friday night. Ahhh, sadly, i am joining the chorus of unhappy customers who feel like the new Jak's way of doing business isn't cutting it. Totally understand the need to make the math work in this upgraded space, but really hope they can still bring back sone old menu favorites, like the pork chops. It felt especially corporate in this new space, like we were dining at an Applebee's. I care about you, JaK's, and want you to succeed. But gotta bring back done of that unique, customer-centered charm, otherwise you are just going to get the one and done customers instead of your faithful regulars. read more

Sitting here finishing my meal and felt compelled to write a review. I haven't been here in years so I can't comment on the changes, the location is nice, no complaints. I had the signature burger (Brie/onion/arugula), Caesar salad, gin/chartreuse cocktail, then raspberry sorbet and fernet for dessert. It was all excellent, service was flawless, warm and friendly (thanks Gaylinn!) , and I didn't feel weird eating alone in my everyday clothes. It's everything you'd want in a very nice, casual but special meal. I have no idea what it cost. Probably too much, but life is short and these happy moments of delicious food are priceless. We came in on Saturday around 5:45. There were two of us so we asked to sit at the bar because it seemed busy and we just wanted cocktails and an appetizer. The hostess (very sweet) offered us two different spots at the bar. We sat down and ordered our drinks. About five minutes later a gal with short hair whom I think was the manager came and smacked her hands down on the bar a few times and said "friends, you need to move to that spot down there." First of all in an establishment like jaks, I would have never expected to be treated like that. The folks to the left looked at myself and guest with a bewildered look. How embarrassing to be treated like that in front of the bar?! We moved, and the entire rest of the time we were there, about an hour no one sat at the place from where we were asked to be moved from?! Highly disappointed after spending $65 on two cocktails and an appetizer we left. Not sure what is going on as we have been here plenty of times before, but we will probably re think of going to JAks. I would have said something while there or sent an email but my fear is it goes to the same person who decided to ask us to move. Please treat your guests with respect. read more

One last meal begins the move. Same great service, but we had not been here since the menu change up. Instead of the steak, coming with a potato selection, the vegetables, and a salad, it's potatoes or a salad, and no vegetables on the side. We did our own workaround and ordered a spinach salad to split and then ordered the New York steak with potato pancakes to split. This time, the potato pancakes were weirdly hard and overdone on the outside but still just like they should be in the middle. Steak cooked just right and seasoned well. My sister who lives in West Seattle was raving about their bene and was excited to have me visit and taste this dish. We ordered three dishes and shared. Each dish prepared well. The tasty dishes were gobbled up quickly. The place is charming old world feel. Dark wood and an interesting layout for different seating options for all. The staff is friendly and attentive. So I took me 80 year old dad here recently. We've been going to Jak's years but the most recent time was very disappointing. The shrimp appetizer and drinks were very good however, it took over an hour for the main course to arrive. The waiter apologized for the wait time and said it was due to a large table they were attending to. I've worked in restaurants so I understood but when our steaks arrived they were lukewarm, almost cold. I mentioned it to the wait staff and they took it back. I thought they'd be bring new ones because it's my understanding that there's a law about taking food back to reheat but they ended up bringing us the same steaks that were which ended up still being lukewarm. When when I receive the bill the server mentioned having comped a round of drinks as an apology. I left a 20% tip and I'm sure we'll likely be back eventually but it was a pretty disappointing experience considering the cost was over $300. read more

The steak here was da bomb! I felt like I could have sliced it with a butter knife it was so tender and juicy! Left feeling uncomfortably full, as it was so delicious! Ordered the 6oz filet minion with baked potatoes and all the toppings and a summer salad with a glass of Merlot: delicious!! Service was terrific, ambiance was good, but the food was chef-kiss good. The quality has noticeably dropped since the move. They cut many corners. Steak dinner used to come with bread, salad, 2 sides and the steak. Now it's just a steak and 1 side for the same price. The potato pancakes used to be absolutely amazing. The flavor popped! I've considered bribing the employees for the recipe they're so good. But now they are just meh. Bland compared to what they were before. How dare you change the potato pancakes! does your arrogance know no end? I came to Jak's Happy Hour for the first time in a while w my hubby. We came at exactly 4 o'clock and sat at a high table and chairs. I love their bar area and atmosphere. Service guy is a super nice and good talk. We ordered 2 of Jak's Cheeseburger with Sweet potatoes fried and some drinks. We asked for medium-well for the doneness of the meat. It was perfect grilled burger and juicy meat. I ate all the sweet potato fries. We finished our meal in just 30 minutes, and there were two couples waiting for a seat. I like the old Jaks grill. Not sure what happened . Spinach artichoke dip and calamari are off the menu. No complementary bread. I Order medium well steak and it came out really BLOODY. My plate was full of blood. Told the waiter Traci, she brought it back to the kitchen . She had another male server bring it back to my table within 3 mins. Terrible. Someone microwaved it. It was cooked on the outside but still bloody in the inside. Bleechers mac&cheese HORRIBLE! Watery and pasta was chewy. Restroom on the other hand. Nasty! Toilet paper was not on the roll. It was on the floor! They were out of seat covers. And when u leave the restroom , u have to go thru another door to get to your seat. U actually have to pull the handle which makes your hands ,that you just washed CONTAMINATED all over again. Toward the end of my dinner I was eating and shooing fruit fly away from my food since my waiter decided she wanted to open up the patio door. By the time I got done with my food, I got bit twice by a mosquito. The establishment looks nice, but everything else ...? Trash! All the upgrade for everything to be a downgrade. This was our favorite west seattle restaurant for 30 years. This was our first time at the new digs. We had reservations but still waited 45 min to be seated because one person in our party was late and they would not seat us. Okay. Our server was very nice. We started out with the bread. It's not the wonderful complimentary sourdough. Its 8 dollars and meh. I'd pay for the sourdough. All 3 streaks were undercooked. My husbands was nearly raw after ordering it well done. (A crime, I know) He sent it back twice. It was still bloody so he had it boxed up to cook at home. The salads were okay. The potato pancakes were greasy. I had crab cakes and they were so low tide I could not eat them. My husband had the Oscar on his steak and when he went to open the box it also was low tide. In brief it was a disaster from start to finish. Management was kind and comped us bread and deserts. It just makes us so sad. It was such a wonderful place. read more

Having been a West Seattle denizen for a lot of years and visited JAK's in the old location, I was psyched to see they'd moved into the Lodge's digs, and thought it would be an upgrade. My wife and I went in a few weeks ago for HH and had the sliders, ( delish- great buns!) Prawns ( only 3? but well done) and great NA mocktails. The bartender is nice but seems to have tunnel-vision alot of the time...However. We returned last Sat. when we'd been running separate errands all day and my wife got there at the bar first, saving me a seat next to her, which the lovely hostess approved. The senior citizen dude next to me when I sat down proceeded to tell me he was wanting my seat for his friend. He then said "When he gets here, he'll be all over you!" Odd and aggressive but I said "Looking forward to it! and went back to talking with my wife.-The friend arrived, proceeded to stand behind me, had his hand on the back of my chair, pretty much breathing down my neck- and Codger #1 proceeds to say disgusting sexual things to try and make us uncomfortable. Didn't work. He then said to his friend - he's like 2 feet from me- "She's the bulldog"- meaning me, then later said after the UMPTEENTH TIME OF COMPLAINING HE DIDN"T GET MY SEAT loud enough for us to hear-said "I'd like to cuff her across the left ear ( he was to my left) at that I turned and confronted him, asked if he was referring to me- he denied it, I called him out and said you're being incredibly disrespectful and it needs to stop- I''ve not been disrespectful to you" He told me I should "go out side and piss off" I called him a ch0ice name or two ,etc., The bartender did nothing during this entire exchange, a server however whisked our drinks away and seated us at a table in the bar. She was lovely,apologized, as did another male server. I asked to speak to the manager( yup!) and while I realize he " can't control what other people say" YOU CAN address when your 112 year-old regular says homophobic slurs and threatens violence to another patron. like..I dunno, 86 him? The vibe of this place has change since it moved into the new building. The menus has changed to be more pretentious. They got rid of their creamy artichoke dip. $16 for Mac and Cheese entree??? 1.) They got rid of the amazing sour dough they would put on your table. Now there is a Breads and Spreads you pay $9 for 2 small loaves of bread (same white flavor) - 2 tiny butter dishes and dipping oil. The bread was pre-cut to the bottom crust. That bottom crust was so hard you had to get a steak knife. ( I should never need a steak knife to cut bread) 2.) We waiting an hour for our main dish. We arrived at 4:45 and didn't get our food till 6pm. 3.) Our server wasn't attentive, He never came around to ask for refils on drinks. After about 30 mins he came to pick up our entree dishes and was about to leave when we flagged him back to ask for drinks 4.) There is a side call UFO - I thought it was a completely new side and was really curious to learn about it. Nope! They just take their mashed potatoes and put their potato pancake on top. Two items they already have. I think they added it to make their side dishes look as if they have more than they do. I am sad to see the Jak's I remember and loved disappearing. It was a small space, with an intimate feeling of just you and your person out on a lovely dinner. It's expanded into a more open feel where you can now take part in your neighbors conversations. The Tomahawk steak was good. The restaurant has no more personality though. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. The food is delicious, service is great, and ambiance is warm and inviting. I like going on Mondays for the prime rib dinner special. It's $42 for a 12 ounce prime rib, 2 sides, and Yorkshire pudding. Some of my favorite items are the mixed berry summer salad (seasonal), onion rings, mac and cheese, prime rib (only on Mondays), NY strip, and filet mignon. All the steaks I've tried so far are delicious and high quality. The only thing I wish was different is if a lighter fried calamari could be served instead of the thick calamari steak crisps that have a bit too much batter. We tried the new location lastnight and wanted to love it just as much but sadly everything has changed for the worst. But as a regular, who talks with other regulars, the consensus is that your space has stepped up and your menu has taken a huge step down. In for lunch today, a Friday at 1pm. Three lunch "sandwiches " and a few salads? Had to ask for FR soup. Rest is breakfast, reduced down from previous restaurant. Broke my Friday tradition to Jaks last Friday and went to Met Grill for lunch and split a 14oz prime rib with mashed and asparagus for $42. We made reservations for our group of six three weeks in advance. Our table was ready when we arrived and we were ushered up a flights of stairs and seated in a booth. Honestly it was a tight squeeze but we managed. We would rather have been seated at a round table with more space. The service was very good and the food was outstanding. The other recommendation that I would make is that when celebrating an event (birthday/anniversary) a complimentary dessert with a candle would be greatly appreciated. Event a scoop of ice cream with a candle to make the evening more memorable would be a nice touch. read more

I absolutely love Jack's Grill. One of the best restaurants in the Puget Sound area. Love all the locations but this is one where my neighbors and i go to eat once in a while. The happy hour goops is excellent and affordable. The steaks are fabulous, the service is always fantastic, and the Steak salad is my favorite!!! Came to JaKs this evening at ~6pm with my wife and son to celebrate my late mother's birthday. I'd never been before and knew it opened relatively recently so figured it was a good occasion to check it out. Upon entry, an employee was speaking with a couple waiting to be seated letting them know she wasn't the hostess. After the hostess came from the back it took maybe a minute or so for us to be even acknowledged as she was having a conversation with the employee that was there prior. After we asked for a table for 3 the hostess said she wasn't sure how long the wait would be. She then told us that it would be a 20-30 minute and that I could be put on the text wait list. After confirming my name, she encouraged us to walk around if we'd like. I'll be honest and say the impression we got was that there wasn't much interest in our business. Sitting at a different restaurant over an hour later with neither a text confirmation we were on the waitlist or one that our table is ready, it's safe to say our business was NOT wanted. So we found this place on accident. We were about to have breakfast at Easy Street and noticed this small and unassuming spot across the street, yelped it and thought it looked good and came back the next night for dinner and WOW. Very simple decor inside reminiscent of classic steakhouse but the food and service are phenomenal! Our server Paige was so delightful and gave us great recommendations for wine and entrees. We were not disappointed at all with this place. My New York strip was cooked perfectly (and that Gorgonzola and bacon crust was *chef's kiss*). The Mac and cheese with dungenous crab on it was heavenly. Wine was great. We loved this place so much that we made a reservation already on our way out for our Christmas Eve dinner. New is not always better. First visit to the new location after 20 years of patronizing the precious pot. Menu has changed. Monday night Prime Rib "special" is now $50 for the smallest cut. Not so "special" anymore. You no longer get bread or a salad unless you want to open your wallet for them. I has the Prime Top Sirloin and found it tough and oddly not very warm making me think it was precooked and held. The potato pancakes are much smaller than they used to be. The meal does come with a demi glace for no extra charge but expect a small portion. My wife had the Halibut and was complimentary about it. read more
