We traveled about eight minutes down the highway and found this little hidden gem. From the outside it looks like a typical pizza delivery restaurant however, the flavors coming out of here are amazing. The crust was thin and crispy and I'm not a crust person so you know it was good. The sauce was great and the toppings were phenomenal. I especially enjoyed the sausage on the special we got. The staff was very nice and friendly and accommodating. They even put the tv on cartoons for my kids. Note though the dine in area is small. Even still the service and food was excellent.

We drove to New Haven and were eating our pizza in less time at one of the more popular/well-known places. Seating is almost a waste of time. Maybe there's enough seating for 25 people?! You need to get to know the people next to you because you're basically at the same table. Prices are shockingly high for what you get. With the sheer amount of pizza-places within a 2-10 mile radius of Fuoco - you're better off giving another establishment a try. Try Half-Moon in Wallingford. The pizza is delicious, less of a wait time and there's actually room to eat and relax.

I ordered a large cheese pizza, and it has to be one of the best I've had in a long time. The crust was perfectly crispy with just the right amount of char, not greasy at all, and every bite was packed with flavor. You can really tell they use quality ingredients and put care into every pie they make. It's that kind of pizza where you immediately know you'll be thinking about it later. Honestly, I wish my wife and kids were here to try it with me--they would've loved it. I'm from California, and I can say I haven't had many pizzas back home that compare to this. It's that good. In fact, I ended up coming back a second time before heading home because I just couldn't pass up another chance to have it again. That alone should say everything. On top of the amazing pizza, the employees were friendly and welcoming, and you can tell it's a family-owned business that takes pride in what they do. The centerpiece of the room is the wood-fired oven, running hot and glowing with that perfect orange flame. The aroma of burning wood hits you right away and sets the tone. From that moment on, the culinary experience is in motion. We ordered The Mootz and Breaking My Meatballs. Both pies are built on a very thin, tender crust with beautiful leoparding. The dough is flavorful and clearly well-fermented. Sauce is applied with restraint, just enough to support the dough and cheese without overpowering them, and it delivers a clean, bright tomato flavor. Breaking My Meatballs was the standout. Homemade meatballs, herbed ricotta, cherry peppers, mozzarella, and that same balanced sauce. The cherry peppers bring a sharp vinegar tang that cuts perfectly through the richness of the ricotta and meatballs. Every bite hits a different note, and it all works together. We tried the gluten free crust (available only in 12") American margherita pie and added mushrooms in half of it. The wood fired crust was well done, I really liked it. Lots of garlic, yum. However, the tomatoes on it were raw and that didn't feel very good. Also, there were no condiments offered on the side- like oregano- is that normal in a pizza place? Maybe I need to try more pizza places :)

The restaurant has an old-school atmosphere with lots of pictures and décor that make it feel welcoming and nostalgic. I ordered a bacon, sausage, pepperoni, and mushroom pizza. At first bite, I thought it was good, but once the pizza cooled down a little, the flavors really started to come together. The toppings blended well and the pizza became much more enjoyable as I kept eating. Overall, definitely a place I'd come back to again.

After graduating with a master's degree from Boston College, East Haven-native Hennessey entered the corporate world. In December 2024, his family opened the Forbes Premium Fuel gas station in North Haven. The gas station was designed to have a convenience store as well as a decent-sized restaurant space. For nearly a year, the restaurant space sat empty as Hennessey's parents were unable to find a restaurant that was willing to move into the space. Hennessey was then tapped to open a pizzeria in the space. Although he had never owned a business or prepared food professionally, the 29-year-old had been experimenting with making pizza since his teenage years. After a number of disastrous pizza-making experiments in his Boston apartment, Hennessey was ready to move back to Connecticut to open his own pizzeria. At Pat's Apizza, the menu is focused exclusively to pizza. Most of the pies are New Haven-style "apizza" (pronounced ah-BEETZ in the local lingo), but they also prepare Sicilian and Roman pies. Upon opening in September, Pat's was met with much success. In addition to full pies, Pat's Apizza also sells slices. Hennessey is quick to remind his customers, "It's not gas station pizza, it's not." My family and I recently visited Pat's Apizza while my wife's uncle was visiting from out of town. We have been meaning to try their pizza since they first opened; we heard plenty of great things. Most of Pat's business seems to be take-out, but they have about six tables inside with an additional four outside. It was a little drizzly on the day of our visit, so we opted for inside. After looking over the menu, my family and I ordered and shared three larges: the "Margherita" (fresh mozzarella, Pecorino Romano, basil, olive oil), "The White Pie Special" (mozz, ricotta, caramelized onion, garlic, basil, Pecorino Romano, olive oil), and the "Mashed Potato Bacon" (mozzarella, mashed potato, bacon, Pecorino Romano). My wife's uncle ordered a small Margherita with Mushrooms for himself. The crust was crispy, charred around the edges, very flavorful sauce, good cheese and excellent toppings! We enjoyed all of the pies, but the Margherita was everyone's favorite! Congrats to Pat and his crew for bringing fantastic pizza to such an unusual setting. We hope to be back again and again!
