Hubby and I liked that the restaurant has an open layout unlike the former, Eggspectation. Two additional nice features of the renovations include patio seating and a carryout window outside the restaurant. There is also a coffee bar with several tvs and a solarium, which may be used for private parties as it had a door. I ordered the Chicken & Waffle with the hot honey drizzle on the side as I wasn't sure how spicy it would be. It was on the milder side as our server said. The hubby ordered Lobster Benedict which was supposed to come with home fries, but he substituted with White Cheddar Grits. It took about thirty minutes before our food came out, which to us is longer than we'd like since we are both impatient. The chicken was crispy and I would have preferred that my waffle was too. It was very soft especially with the syrup added. My hubby thought his Lobster Benedict was slightly bland and there was too much spinach for the dish. He did like the cheesy grits. He ordered a Coke which was watered down so he asked for a replacement with less ice and it was better. I ordered the Griddle Combo, which included two eggs any-style, a choice of breakfast meat, and a side of pancakes, French toast, or a Belgian waffle, all served with their signature home fries. I chose scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, and a Fruity Pebbles waffle, which had a $2 upcharge. I didn't know my waffle would come smothered in cereal anglaise, which made it soggy and didn't pair well with syrup. Next time, I'll order the waffle without the cereal anglaise. My friend ordered the Strawberry Shortcake Pancakes, which were three homemade buttermilk pancakes stuffed with strawberry filling, topped with whipped cream, and a strawberry shortcake crumble. The bartender was pleasant and their service was good. I ordered the griddle combo which was a half waffle accompanied by eggs, home fries, and for me; turkey sausage. When it came out the only thing that was hot were my eggs; I assume because I asked for them to be over medium. My waffle had no crisp to it, my breakfast potatoes were one minute from being cold, and the turkey sausage patties had a weird texture. On a pleasant note, my mimosa was amazing! JAM Eateries is probably the most sought after brunch location in the area, so I would prepare accordingly if you're planning a visit. JAM is really really popular. People start filling seats pretty early, so if you want to plan for your party, I would recommend looking into their app/calling in to get queued in ahead of time to avoid any mishaps. Why is it so popular? I think it's a combination of the location being central, the menu being pretty friendly for everyone, and the venue being a nice spot for families to get together. They have a nice outdoor patio with shade that I would recommend on nicer days. How's the food - it's good! I do feel like there are a few things that are missing from the entrees that make me stay at a 4 instead of 5 stars. I got the braised short ribs and the flavor on the meat itself was delicious. I would have loved to see more color in the dish itself whether it be from peppers/veggies or garnishes to add a bit more balance to the otherwise heavier dish. The eggs felt a bit overcooked for my taste, but given that we went on a super busy day, it may have been an isolated situation where the kitchen had to churn out food. Service is friendly, but going back to how busy JAM tends to get, it's easy to find yourself in a position where you seem to be looking for your server because they have so much on their plate. The layout is pretty much the same but the food is 100 times better. We ordered a breakfast quesadilla, cinnamon roll French toast, a big breakfast sandwich, and chicken and waffles. No one had anything negative to say about their food. It was all amazing. I cannot forget to mention that they also have adult beverages as well! The mimosa flight was good (the island one with the rum in it was the best) and they make a MEAN Old Fashioned. If you like bourbon, get this drink. As this trip was focused on breakfast items, I cannot wait to get back to try some of their lunch offerings. They also have a glass case as soon as you walk in filled with cakes, pies and muffins. We could hear each other fine but it was just a lot of noise. I got the spiked coffee without whipped cream and it was very heavy on the alcohol at first but it was yummy. R got the bacon Bloody Mary, but it had a weird chunk of bacon instead of a strip so that was disappointing. I got the breakfast tacos and they were huge and filling. I only ate 2. The sauce on the side was really yummy. Kind of like a roasted red pepper flavored sauce. R got the ham omelette but asked for cheddar cheese instead of pimento but it had the pimento when delivered. I was way over due for a visit to Jam Eateries, but I'm glad I finally got a chance to visit. We took our mom here for a birthday brunch and she loved the food and the whole experience. We got a variety of brunch items for the table, and everything I tried tasted great. I especially loved the churro waffles. It is very busy on Saturday mornings, but if you are visiting with just 1 other person you can sit at the rail by the kitchen without a wait. I had the chicken and waffles and an island mimosa the first time, and the second I had a bacon bloody Mary and ranchero omelette. I thought everything was tasty, though the chicken and waffles was a little basic so I'm not sure i would get it again. Jam's is the old Eggspectation in Ellicott City and the ambience is still the same. You're greeted immediately when you walk in , music is at the right level that you can still hear each other, greeter is friendly and if it's a weekday you may even get seated fast. My waiter was really nice brought water to the table as soon as I sat down, offered me the menu and even recommended mimosa flight (I guess I looked like I needed a drink) I wasn't disappointed though! The options are passion fruit, pineapple, cranberry and a combo that I'm forgetting the name at this moment(chalk it up to old age or a strong drink ). Each was delicious-I would definitely do again! I ordered the corned beef hash- now what I wanted versus what I received is different. They have changed the corned beef to real brisket but it was really fatty and not really something I would have as a breakfast item. The consistency messed up the potatoes and wasn't right. I asked for some salsa to attempt to doctor it up but it just wasn't what I expected. They also don't offer any toast (I'm a bread lover) so that also was a negative to me. My waiter noticed my discomfort and sent the manager over. He was really nice and offered to make me something else but I told him no because that was my choice to order that so I can't really blame them but I would t order that again. He said he understood but wanted to comp my meal for me. I declined as I said again, that was my choice to order that. Now the presentation was good but not my taste.
