I've been wanting to try James for a few years now and FINALLY got the chance today! After a long day at work, I called my order in and made the drive to the restaurant. James is a local establishment that features traditional Filipino dishes. My personal favorites are pancit, adobo, and lumpia. The restaurant is located in the back of a shopping center that is currently being renovated. I've come to the shopping center dozens of times, but never realized James was there until a few years ago. The restaurant is so quaint and cozy. I felt like I was in someone's home and they were offering me a nice home cooked meal. The servers were very kind. I bought my own bag for my food (the restaurant charges for bags). My order was ready almost right away. I was handed my food and I proceeded on my way home. I settled on the Canton style pancit. It had chicken, shrimp and deep fried pork belly laid on the top. It originally comes with egg noodles, but I asked to substitute them with rice noodles. The rice noodles were well seasoned- I didn't need any fish sauce, pepper or any other seasonings. The shrimp were baby shrimp, which was fine with me. There were small diced pieces of chicken that were tender and well seasoned. I have to say that I'm not the biggest fan of pork belly. It's a bit on the fatty side, but it does add flavor to the dish. As you can see in my photos, I did eat most of the pork belly pieces. The lumpia was delicious- lightly crispy on the outside, with delicious pork filling on the inside. It came with a sweet & sour-like sauce that was mild and tasty. My meal was delicious and I ate it ALL! As I type this review, I don't feel extremely full and weighed down, which is great! With tip, I paid $24 and some change. I would definitely go back to try some of the other offerings. This is a great spot if you are craving Filipino cuisine that tastes homemade. Solid four gold stars! read more

Since moving from Hawaii, I've been searching for comfort food for those occasions when I miss home. Filipino food is one of those comfort foods so of course what do I look for my first time visiting Baltimore? I happened to be in this neighborhood so decided to give this place a try. Luckily they weren't busy when we arrived so everything came out quickly. The Shanghai lumpia is on the smaller side, which is excellent for a taste teaser but if you're used to the bigger style you may be disappointed. The flavor was good, and the vinegar and sili added a nice hot and sour kick. The pork BBQ stick was marinated well and was my favorite. My wife actually liked it with the pinakbet more than the kawali, which I didn't mind cause it left more for me lol. The pinakbet was a hit for both of us as we haven't found many veggie dishes at the other Filipino restaurants that were fresh and crunchy. Most other places tend to go with the soupier veggie dishes (sinigang mostly, which is also good but I was feeling crunchy) so it was refreshing to have this. Ampalaya for the win! The only disappointment was the pork Adobo. Don't get me wrong, it was really good. It's just not the type we're used to which is Ilokano style (a little drier and crunchy with a lot more vinegar sour taste) so not a ding, more of a different taste preference. The only negative (not to us, but definitely to folks not used to it) is the lack of decor and the kind of... dinginess to the restaurant. Some of the best places in Hawaii have similar but scare those new to Filipino food. I could see having a hard time bringing newbies to this restaurant and convincing them that the food is good if they walk in and see the interior. All in all, my wife and I loved the place. We'll definitely be back if we're in the area again. So far, it's the best Filipino food we've had since moving to the DMV! read more

My first foray into Filipino cuisine! My son and fellow *Yelpster suggested James Fiesta Grill for Friday lunch. We have neighbors of Filipino descent familiar with James, so we decided "what the heck?" I don't how many establishments cater to this group and am only familiar with one in business long ago who was in a lengthy legal battle with a large Japanese media company who just happened to have the same name as the lady who ran the place downtown. James is on the ground level of a shopping center bordering Joan Ave, Willow Oak and Amuskai Rd. Aesthetically, James is a dive; simply furnished with few tables. The crew running the joint are cheerful and a joy to work with. Now to the food: we started with the Lumpia Shanghai- small egg rolls. Smaller even than spring rolls. These were served with James' special sauce. They were very good! My son ordered James' Special Pancit Behon consisting of stir fried rice noodles mixed with fish cake, pork, chicken and veggies topped with crispy lechon kawali aka deep fried pork belly. Very yummy, claims my son. I sampled the belly and it ate like pork rinds. Food here is amply seasoned but son decided to drizzle his dish with Sriracha Sauce for a little heat. Yours truly opted for Pancit Canton Supreme- another noodle dish but with stir fried egg noodles with some veggies, shrimp, pork and chicken mixed in. Very tasty!! Both of us finished our entrees as we saw what a Filipino family at the table next to ours ordered. A treasure trove of deliciousness, I say! What can I say? I found this place on Yelp and immediately wanted to try it out. We got there about 10-15 minutes before they closed, all the chairs were up but they were very nice about us placing our to-go order. I was in the area and found there was a Filipino restaurant nearby! I am Filipina and was very excited since I haven't eaten Filipino food except for adobo in a long time. I saw on the menu that there was pork sigsig and ordered it. I wanted to dine in but there was a sign that said the dining room was closed due to Covid. I debated whether or not I was going to eat at James Fiesta Grill but I was so hungry that I decided to order and eat in my car. I ordered on the phone and picked it up since I was in the parking lot already. I went inside to pick up my lunch and was surprised to see people eating in the dining room. The restaurant isn't very big and there were four tables but I had thought that no one was allowed to eat in because of the sign in front of the restaurant that the dining room was closed. I paid for my pork sigsig and was surprised that the amount was different from the menu price. I don't mind paying for something but I would have liked to know that the prices have gone up. I enjoyed the pork sigsig since I was extremely hungry. I gave this restaurant 4 stars only because of the menu prices need to be updated. I honestly don't know if I will be back since I live pretty far from this place. I like eating my food on a table and enjoying it rather than eating in a car. read more

First time trying Filipino food so don't have anything to compare here to, but really enjoyed all the dishes ordered. The Lumpia came out freshly fried - Crispy wrapper on the outside and warm filling. It was served with a sweet dipping sauce. The Pork Sising was really good, however we definitely needed to add lemon, spread the egg, and add some hot sauce. Alone it was a little bland, but the additions made it really good. The Pork Lecheon had a great crisp and was chewy. It was served with 2 sauces, both were sweet. I would have preferred one sweet and another spicy, or at least of a different flavor profile. We dined in, and the lady running the front counter turned the heater on for us because it was a cold day, so that was a really nice touch. The lechon was perfectly cut and fried; the pancit, which restaurants often struggle presenting, with it's seemingly incongruous amalgam of flavors, was fantastic; and their version of sisig is an absolute umami superstar. DELICIOUS! This past weekend my girlfriend and I had to pleasure of stopping by James Fiesta Grill for lunch and we definitely left satisfied! Being in the Baltimore area it has always been a struggle to find good home cooked Filipino meal but that has all come to an end now that we discovered James'! We were so excited to find this spot that we decided to try all of our favorites including pancit, sisig,lumpia,pork bbq and my favorite of course daing bangus. All of the food came out quickly and disappeared quickly as well, its safe to say we thought everything was amazing. Its been a while since Ive had a good filipino home cooked meal and this was as close as you could possibly get to it! We enjoyed our meals so much that we had to get dessert as well so we enjoyed a halo halo, YUM! What a wonderful place!! Even though I was born in the Philippines and moved to the US as a toddler, not having been back since, the amazing dishes at JFG brought back great memories! Very nostalgic..... The incredible dishes I've tried so far are: Lumpia, Grilled Pompano, Fish Sinigang, and Pancit Palabok. Loved every single one of them! If I can order the entire menu and eat it all in one sitting, I totally would. However, since that's not humanly possible, at least for me, I will have to make multiple visits. I'm definitely OK with that! :) To add to an already awesome experience, James made it even better. He is incredibly accommodating and friendly. James' staff, especially Tony, is extremely nice, friendly, and attentive. This place is legit - authentic, delicious, feed your soul Filipino food. What better time to try out this restaurant than with my mother and nanny in tow? More people equals more dishes to try out, plus they're the experts when it truly comes to food of our peoples. Here's what we ordered: Lumpia - Perfect tasty bites which are freshly fried to a perfect crisp and a great way to start off your meal. It could have used a tad bit more filling, but I could just be used to my Manang overstuffing hers. Adobo (Chicken, despite the daily menu listing pork) - Every single Filipino family has their own version of Adobo, so it is virtually impossible to come across another version that even comes close to what you're used to. My Manang's version is the ultimate but this was far better than many others I've tried. It is a tad sweeter than I'm used to, it would appear they use canned pineapple chunks in their recipe, but I highly recommend. Seafood Chop Suey - Out of all the dishes, this was my least favorite but really it was only ordered to try to offset the ridiculous amount of protein ordered. It was fine, but not entirely memorable. Pancit Palabok - Yum! This consists of rice noodles topped with a plethora of toppings. Shrimp sauce, cooked shrimp, chicharons, hard boiled egg, scallions and more. It was packed with flavor and is incredibly satisfying. Chicken Inasal - Super tasty with the char from the grill. And be sure to dip it in the garlic vinegar, yum. This is a must have! Lecheon Kawali - Absolutely delicious. Crispy, crunchy pork belly that is not at all oily. It was awesome and the best of what Filipino food has to offer. While the restaurant doesn't do the entire pig, you can order a full pork belly for only $75! I so know what I'm serving for my next at home party.... Ok, so let me back up and give a rundown of what to do when you enter the restaurant. There are full menus on each of the tables, as well as a "specials" menu that you'll most like see first when you enter. Either way, you place your order at the little register next to the doorway that connects it to the Asian grocery store next door. From there, grab a seat if you're staying or kill some time next door if you're getting it to go. There are a couple of cons that I do need to share. First, there is no heat in this place whatsoever. I'm not entirely sure how that is possible from a health code standpoint, but the only warmth came from our coats and a tiny little space heater at the front of the restaurant. Needless to say, we froze our butts off the entire time we were there. You can't just get a cup of water, you'll need to purchase a bottle for $1. Again, not sure how that can be - I thought you had to provide free, potable water - but guess not. Despite the two glaring issues, I'd come back here in a heartbeat. read more

But wasn't your Filipino "turo turo" restaurant. Food is ordered and cooked on the spot. So as fresh as it can be. There were no menus available but I already knew what I wanted. I Ordered palabok and lechon kawali to go. By the time I got home though, the lechon was already cold. So hopping next time I go back, I will dine in! The food was delicious. I just moved to this area 4 days ago, and I was ecstatic to tell and show my boyfriend that there's a Filipino restaurant nearby his home (and he's been in MD for 10 years! but didn't know about this little gem.) We were greeted warmly and were acquainted to their menu by the friendly man who took our orders. The food we ordered were really good. I really liked their adobo. It was on the sweeter side, but definitely still delicious. We ordered the bbq on sticks which were quite burned, but still tasted fine surprisingly. We also got the lechon kawali and halo-halo... which my bf thoroughly enjoyed. He wants to go back mainly to try out their sigsig since they had run out by the time we got there yesterday at 6pm.
