just moved to maryland today, and one of the things i'm looking for is good, authentic filipino food. this was the second food stop that we made (after wawa lol), and my parents and i were so satisfied with the food. we ordered the taho, lechon paksil, fresh fried herring, and balatong. the lechon paksil was super tasty and very well-cooked; the sauce was well-balanced in a sweet and savory flavor. the fresh fried herring was delicious! perfectly cooked and wonderfully salted, tasted like home. the balatong was good; didn't wow us, but it was definitely good. and the taho was soooo yummy, perfect sweet treat! the service was quick, attentive, and kind. the atmosphere was bright and lively. i'll definitely try coming here again! read more

I had a pickup order and it was ready on the time I said I would come get it. They've been consistent in the past and we always get their pork barbecue and lumpia shanghai, among others. This time, the pork barbecue looked a little dry. Missing some of the "taba" (fat) at the end which would have been nice. Taste is still ok and just dipped in vinegar so it's not too dry. The grilled fish we got was a little on the burnt side which made it difficult to eat on account of the bitter taste and it was in a place where it was difficult to separate the burnt part from the meat. Also, my one beef is that there was an added credit card surcharge of 3% which I was not informed of ahead of time. This is big as my bill before taxes was already over $135! If I knew beforehand, I would have prepared to bring cash because that surcharge was big and this was not even verbally offered at the time of payment. I have been a loyal customer for many years now but we don't come as often as we don't leave near. It used to be bag fees, and I brought my own bag in for groceries, but this surcharge left a bad taste. if this is to be standard, please put up a sign at the counter or on your website. Otherwise, I like the variety of food and grocery items offered, but there has to be better communication with customers. read more

Invited to try Mama Rosa with a friend for lunch I was pretty excited to learn theirs a Filipino spot close to home. The restaurant has simple seating, buffet style views of some of their food items and features grocery items. It's nice to have a spot to grab different items to try while also sitting down for a little meal. In restaurant I tried the bbq chicken skewers with garlic fried rice. For my to go order I grabbed pancit and lumpia since those are my husband's favorite. It's been years since I've had Filipino food. I came here based off a friend's recommendation. They had some food displayed with a more extensive menu you can order from. There's also a little grocery mart of Filipino items for sale in the back. They had a Filipino staple, Chicken Adobo, I've always raging and got it along with an order of Lumpia. I dined in and sat at one of their picnic tables. I was given my adobo and lumpia in to go containers. I ate half of my adobo which was great, just wish there were less bones and I saved the rest for later. The lumpia was perfectly crispy - so good with the dipping sauce. One of the only places for real deal Filipino food in the area. Being Filipino-American my standards were also super high. This place is solid and deserves more attention. Ordered a tray a lechon and lumpia ahead of time and came here to pick it up and get dinner as well. Unfortunately despite calling they had no idea of our order and was not prepared at the allotted time. Thankfully they said they would prepare it right there as we ate dinner. The food itself was great! Got the lumpia (spring rolls), sisig ( sizzling pork dish), and lechon ( roasted pork). All of it was really good and I have high standards for all those dishes. The outside is very unsuspecting, but the lady inside has a full seated restaurant area as well as a market. If you're in the area and craving Filipino food or snacks, I highly suggest checking out Mama Rosa Grill. Finally had a chance to stop by after a visit to the Science Center (about a 10 min drive). Parking is a little scarce, so you may have to park a little further down from the restaurant. Order your meal at the counter. They have ready to go hot food (turo turo style) or items you can order from their menu. After ordering, I suggest you walk around the store to see if there are any Filipino groceries, snacks, or beverages you want to purchase before checking out. In addition to my food, I ended up leaving with some salt/vinegar chicharron, Spanish bread from Christines, and a couple beverages (Mogu Mogu). For food, of course we were eye hungry, so ordered sisig fries, half chicken inasal meal, and a big container of the lechon kawali. Everything was pretty good, with the lechon being the favorite. Sisig fries were good, but wish it came topped with a little less yum sauce. If you also like your sisig extra crispy, this dish isn't for you. The chicken was juicy, tender, and flavorful. Surprisingly the rice wasn't cooked right. It was overcooked and too mushy. The lechon remained crispy on the ride home (~45min) and was still hot. It was very tender and had a nice crunch to it. Definitely glad we went with the larger container! I'll definitely be back to Mama Rosa Grill the next time I'm in Baltimore. Their mixilog 1 was calling my name! read more

Mama Rosa Grill is a Filipino Super Market with a restaurant to accompany it. To quickly go over the grocery store element if it - you'll find a lot of traditional Filipino groceries such as dried taro leaves, chicharon, banana ketchup, and a multitude of Filipino snacks and candies. It has pretty much anything you'd want, so if you're trying to make Adobo, Filipino Spaghetti, or Sinigang - you'll find most of the things you'll need outside of actual produce or meats. Let's get to the food - it's authentic Filipino cuisine, and it's good and legit. Growing up Filipino all these dishes were very familiar to me, from the "chocolate pork" diniguan, pork or chicken bbq skewers, to the tamarind soup sinigan and breakfast platters of cured pork and egg. There is no wrong choice, all the food here will satisfy you. The -silog platters are a great value, coming with garlic rice, eggs, and whatever you want to accompany it - from fried milkfish to Filipino hotdog or sausage. The pricing is very reasonable, and less than what I would expect it to be in many restaurants. The service, as usual from any Filipino business, is genuine and kind - my phone died and the owners allowed me to charge my phone while I finished my meal! Holy crap, this place has single handedly changed my opinion on Filipino food. I've had Filipino food before growing up in the dmv and unfortunately I always found it greasy, musty, and salty whether it's sisig or adobo. The only thing I liked was lechon and lumpia but it's because those are found in Chinese food. I was looking at soul food trying to get my Mac and cheese on and while browsing Google maps and I see this place thinking it's latino based on the name. It turns out to be Filipino, interesting - it's not what you expect to find in Baltimore. But the lechon looks banging and it's ridiculously inexpensive (less than 10 for a lb? 33$ for a whole 7 lb roll of pork belly??) I make an order, throw in some lumpia, and spot a picture of their mixed breakfast platter (mixilog 1) with grilled pork, beef, and sausage, and eggs at 22.99 for what looks like 2 portions of food and throw that in too because how bad can grilled meat and rice be? When my order arrived I was like holy crap, this is a shitton of food. That mixilog platter is four meals, minimum and it's stinkin good. Meat is tasty and well seasoned, rice is not greasy, and who doesn't like a good fried egg? The sauces and shredded papaya is nice and light akin to a Vietnamese nuoc Cham dressing and papaya salad. The real star here is that lechon, crispy, melt in your mouth tender, perfectly seasoned with a delicious lechon dipping sauce. This outshines any Chinese roast pork in the dmv. Since I'm only one person I've had it for three meals in a row now and it still slaps even as leftovers. Mama Rosa has won me over. I guess I ate at crappy Filipino places (that are very popular in the dmv!) and I'm surprised to find it in Baltimore of all places. Consider me schooled. Today I didn't feel like driving out to my favorite spot so I tried this place again. We ordered the pork BBQ meal, extra chicken BBQ skewers, chicken adobo, chicken pancit, and lumpia. Everything was pretty good. I think the bbq skewers probably could have cooked a bit longer, the texture was kind of strange but the flavor was good. We simply stuck them in the air fryer for a bit before eating them. No other complaints. We can't speak to the service as this was a Grubhub order, but everything did arrive fresh and hot. read more

I had ordered on their website via the menufy add on but accidentally ordered to the Middle River location. Called the middle river location immediately and they were able to transfer my order over to the Patapsco location easily. Both staff members were nice and kind and food was ready for me at the Patapsco location once I got there. Seamless pick up! Now food wise, delicious! And very homey. I got the garlic rice with the sizzling sisig, lecheflan, and buko pandan. Rice well made and good garlic flavors. Sisig had nice two runny eggs and porks had a good texture and good spice to it! Buko pandan had a good pandan flavor, not too sweet. Good creaminess. The flan is also dense and super creamy too. First off the hospitality is amazing. Welcomed customers with open arms. The place is clean and ambient. Service is great as like any other Filipino restos everywhere you go. One thing that got us out of this place is the food. After all that's the major thing we came in for. If you picked fried foods on the menu you won't go wrong with it. However, the other part of the menu is not even on standard. Sauces are actually feel like mixed out from the flavoring packet maybe to save time? Some of the meats are hard and rubbery. First time checking out Mama Rosa's, and I was not disappointed. TL;DR version: Pork Belly was delish and crispy, the Lumpiang Shanghai was delish too. Garlic rice was good. Check out Mama Rosa's for some really good Filipino cuisine. For the patient ones: Of course having delivery available during COVID is key, so that's a plus right off the bat. The pork belly was crispy, juicy and had good flavor. The garlic rice was pretty good also. I wish I knew what the sauce was that came with the rice because it had some nice sweet notes that complimented the meal also. The Lumpiang Shanghai is definitely smaller than I thought it would be, but they give you about 12 of them or so and the flavor was definitely on point, so I can't complain. The portions are really good and I still have a good amount of food left over to enjoy again later today. A couple cons: Delivery took about 50-60 min. The paper to-go plate that the meal came in was a bit messy and greasy which did not look good, but this did not affect quality of food. So this is a cafeteria style Filipino food place. (Actually all non sit down fil restaurants are like this). The food is ok especially if you've been craving Filipino food (after spending time in jail for example). You order the food you want just like in a cafeteria... Point to the food you like, usually rice and two meat/veggie viands. I ordered the chicken adobo and pinakbet and with that garlic fried rice. The chicken was dry (I'm not really surprised) and the pinakbet veggie cubes could have been cut in smaller pieces, they both came in little styrofoam bowls. You had to be careful with the fried rice... There's going to be super hard dried kernels in there (again I'm not surprised) This place is cleaner than most...I mean there are worse places than this... But the movement of the waste buckets (looks like waste oil or Chum) through the dining room adds a little bit of puke factor. Kinda makes me nostalgic of the Philippines watching the piggery guys carry the kaninbaboy around in the Philippines. Well... It's an ok place. You really don't have any choice... There's no other Filipino restaurants around. And no, I don't count those bs Asian fusion places as Filipino food. Get ready to see some balikbayan boxes. This place is a treat...
