With all the driving I do around the Bay Area for my consulting businesses and for a full-time job, I needed to find a way to extend my gas mileage and save time during rush hour traffic jams. I still had six months left on my Escape lease and thought I might add a hybrid/electric vehicle to meet my needs and worry about my lease-end options on the current car when the time came. Again, James Ford was extremely helpful and patient with me, my questions, and my crazy schedule. I was able to test drive a couple cars in their EV line-up, negotiate over phone and email for a few weeks, and finally went to pick up my new car this weekend. They accepted my Escape as a trade-in under an Early Bird Lease program offered through end of September, and as long as I accepted a car already in inventory (on the lot) even though it didn't have the exact specs I requested. Financing was worked out so that I put down a small deposit and drove off with very reasonable monthly payment for a car with more options than I needed! And after driving my CMax Energi around the past 24 hours, I have to say I love it! The ride is smooth and plenty powerful. Even hubby is impressed with all the electronics and features, which *will* require reading the Owner's Manual to fully utilize. I've never had such a great experience at a dealership as I have had with James Ford. Maybe it's the sea air with them being located right on the Highway 1 and close to the ocean. Maybe it's the fact that everyone there has a specific role (sales, finance, credit check, new owner hand-off) and they all work together perfectly. Jimmy took care of giving us our keys and showing us the basics to the CMax. He even paired my cell phone to the vehicle's Bluetooth. With the spread of some really bad reviews mixed with good ones, I thought I'd throw in my two cents. Here's my situation. Brought in my Fiesta for a 30K maintenance appointment. While they were changing the oil, etc. they didn't like what the transmission was doing. They sprung me from the waiting room, handed me keys to a loaner and sent me on my way. I'm not psyched it took three weeks, but they addressed a ton of bumps and slips I frankly hadn't noticed, including replacing my clutch and one of my shocks--All for free, under warranty. Keep in mind, I hadn't complained or ask for anything, and I'm a 4 or 5 thousand miles away from my warranty ending. Of course, ideally none of this junk should have failed in that time. But they could have hosed me by half-assing until my warranty ran down. From where I sit, they went the extra mile (literally looking at the test drive notes). I'm happy. It is sad to see one star and only 1 review for this dealership. This is the only dealership that I know of where you don't get screwed, have excellent customer service and service and work they do is exceptional! I do not trust anybody but them to do my service. Also for small things like oil change you don't even need to make an appointment. They can take care of that in 30min while you wait! This is the only place capable of understanding what tire pressure is. They're actually capable of setting correct tire pressure. This is not a joke. I've been to many places like America's Tire, Oil Stop, other ford dealerships, all fail to set correct tire pressure. Every time I'm there they do exceptional work that is so hard to find anywhere else. When you go in you get the feeling that this is the place where people actually work, unlike other dealerships (ex: Towne Ford) where all they do is talk and don't do anything to fix your car. This dealership should be placed in the red book and be protected by the government. Places like this are so extinct these days, it is amazing there is still at least one. read more

So I have to say that I am one very happy camper. I was driving my SUV the other day, THOUGHT I felt my gears slip... maybe it was all in my head... but it was due for an oil change anyhow. Asked if she (my SUV) was still under warranty, they said "yes, sure is," I said "Please check everything out and make her better..." This review is for the experience I had with sales person Francis Prevot. I've been to half a dozen dealerships in the past month, and had a remarkably positive experience with Francis Prevot. I was nervous about car shopping with my 9-month old daughter, but he was wonderful to work with. Francis was really kind, was an excellent listener, and even offered to hold my daughter for me so that I could explore the car more thoroughly. My daughter loved him! Test driving with him was relaxing, like driving around town with a friend. The buying experience could not have been better or more respectful. I was in the market for a 2015 Ford F-150, but I was not in a big hurry. I filled out the form on Edmunds.com, and next thing I knew I was inundated with salespeople that wanted to close a deal right now at an unreasonable price, and only would talk about what was available in the dealer's inventory. Then I got a call from Steve Meister at James Ford. He left a message saying "I don't have anything in my inventory right now, but lets meet and figure out what you want and I can see if I can find it for you." So I called Steve back and we met. Steve spent a lot of time with me and reviewed all the options available, gave me some tips on options that are not really worth the money given what I wanted, and or options that would not be compatible with what I wanted etc. For example, he originally was suggesting the bigger and more expensive engine, however when he heard I had no intention of towing anything heavy and I wanted a good balance of fuel economy and power, Steve immediately said the 2.7 ecoboost is the one you want. He steered me toward a couple packages that would provide me most of what I wanted as well. Steve then put out a search for the truck I wanted, and after a few days he found one and arranged to have it transferred to James Ford. When I came in and saw it, it could not have been a better fit! The very first price presented was SPOT ON with what I expected (good price for me with a reasonable profit for James Ford). The paperwork was easy, and I was off in my brand new Ford F-150 Lariat 4x4 with the 2.7ecoboost engine! The vehicle was well prepped and Steve spent time familiarizing me with the use of the features, etc. The vehicle itself is FANTASTIC! the 2.7 ecoboost engine has ample power, yet I am getting 19 city / 23 highway (really!). Despite being a big vehicle, it is fun to drive. My cousin in Texas recently bought a 2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch Edition (tippy top of the line), and when he rode in my truck, he said, "Wow! this has everything I wanted . . . I could have saved quite a bit!" All in all an A+++ experience. read more

The used truck (2013 Dodge Ram Laramie) that we bought from James Ford in February is a great truck. But lots of little glitches and mishaps from the first time we drove 2 1/2 hours to test drive it and couldn't because someone allegedly put diesel in it and needed to flush the engine...all the way to the present (5 months after purchase) -we still haven't received the license plates! Calling in every month or so to check on Lynette's progress getting the license and registration done, I'm getting the feeling that not all their employees are good at their jobs. If dealing with the DMV is part of your job, you should stay on top of things and know which docs to complete. Each time I call I hear lots of excuses, but they are not comforting. In fact the more I hear, the more unsettled I feel. Title signature errors, plates removed at auction, etc...are not things you want to hear after you buy a truck that supposedly belonged to the dealer's friend! Jamie is taking on my case now after kind of insulting me then her coworker. I just wish one of them would resolve my issues! Kinda think they aren't on the up and up. Just got the registration renewal bill but still no plates. Update: I got my license and registration refunded:partially- and a $20 check from the dealership so I went on my own to my local DMV and walked out the same day with new plates and stickers. After a few days of online browsing and hours of rigorous research on my next car purchase, I decided that the Shelby GT350 was for me. I had spoken to a few different car dealers and James ford had the car that I was interested in. A lightning blue 2018 Shelby GT350 with white stripes. I decided to come in on my day off with my wife and daughter as I was browsing, I was quickly approached by Gerald a sales representative. We talked about different cars and models of mustangs and of course, me being a gear head, I was quickly deep into conversation. Upon first glance the Shelby looked like a brand new car as it was supposed to be except for one little dent on the driver side fender. I went home and slept on it for about a week and finally decided to make the leap. On Saturday October 6th, I showed up with my family and I decided to purchase the one with the dented fender with one condition, that the fender would be fixed. I was told that the fix was easy and that it would be done in no time. I went home in my new car with a great impression of James ford. Two weeks went by with no call until finally Joe the finance manager called me and explained to me that his dent guy, Chris, had a "family emergency" and that he would call me as soon as he could get my car fixed. That's fine right? I cannot bash a man who is having family problems, so I agreed to wait. One week later Joe calls me again and gives me Chris's number so I could set up an appointment with him. I call Chris, I set up the appointment, he comes out to my job site and states that the dent cannot be fixed due to the location as well as the cracked paint on the inside lip. I kindly ask him to explain, he tells me that due to the height and position on the dent he could only pull out 80% max and it will still have the cracked paint. So I decide that I will call the dealer and see what we can do about it. I spoke with Gerald and he asked for pictures of the damage. He told me he would run it through his management and see what actions would be taken, that I could also now refer to his sales manager "Dee" so we wouldn't go back and forth with the he said she said, so on so forth with was fine with me. One week goes by, with no reply to my email, no text message sent to me and no phone calls made. So I decided to drive the 25 miles for the third time from my home to the dealer and maybe speak face to face with "Dee" so he could also take a look at the damage himself because to my knowledge, at the time, I wasn't sure if he had seen it. So I walk in there and I ask for Dee...I was greeted by a man with a blank stare on his face as if he is asking himself "what does this kid want." I introduced myself and explained to him that I wanted an update of where we stood on actions that would be taken to fix my car. His words to me were, "We saw the pictures of your car with our general manager and we were talking about what we will do. I didn't see a crack in your paint job and honestly I think that my dent guy is just being lazy." He did not ask me if I had brought my car so he could take a look. He did not give me an answer but instead threw his contractor under the bus by calling him "lazy". Again, I left with no answer or by the looks of it any concern to get my seventy thousand dollar vehicle fixed. A week went by and again no contact made by any member of the James Ford team. So I decided to get an estimate of how much the damage would cost to be fixed. When I contacted James ford with the estimate in hand and I asked to speak with "Dee" again. He rudely told me that I was NOT going to get my car fixed in my own and that HE would set up the appointment to get the work done in the body shop of their choice. By now it had been 5 weeks since I bought the car and still no solution. It has been three weeks now that I have received phone calls once a week leading me on saying that "this week we'll get your car fixed, we're waiting on a loaner car" and now we're coming up on 8 weeks since the purchase of the vehicle and the damage is still on my car. I strongly suggest to anyone not to conduct business with James ford nor will I ever be returning for future purchases after the damage in my car is fixed, which is very unfortunate. read more

I called James Ford this morning with an emergency situation - my son was on a road trip and the check-engine light came on. 500+ miles away from home and looking for quick service support. I made a call and luckily was connected with Darryl as our service advisor. While they were quite busy on a Monday morning, he said to bring it in and made it a priority to get the diagnostic run. His follow-up, support, and communication were very good and much appreciated. Knowing that we would not be "regular" customers it would have been easy to blow us off. James Ford is a disgraceful dealership. My husband and I bought and 2006 Expedition from them in August 2013. We opted for an extended warranty and also advised not to purchase gap insurance as we were assured it was worth far more than what we owed on it. Fast forward to November, the car wouldn't start. I was told by the Service Department there was corrosion on the battery and everything was fine. Fast forward a few days, the car wouldn't start again and it felt like the transmission was slipping. Took it back in and were told it was going to cost $1300 to repair 6 coils, replace all the spark plugs and various other issues. We were also told the warranty that we paid $2000 extra for, covered NONE of it. Yet, had we opted for the more expensive warranty, it would have been covered as told to us by Dee the sales manager. The repairs to the vehicle took almost 3 weeks and the rental car we were first given didn't fit our sons carseat. When we informed them of this, they got us another rental only for us to return it because the work wasn't covered under the warranty and the extra rental was costing the dealership money. After much back and forth, the quoted $1300 repair bill was taken care of by the general manager, which we greatly appreciated. Fast forward again to now (February 2014), my husband and I decided the fuel costs on this vehicle are outrageous; time to find something more efficient. We took it to another local dealership to have it appraised for a trade in. We find out not only are we the NINTH owner (this is to be disputed by Jim Brandt himself. I'll explain...) as well as the vehicle has been in an ACCIDENT! Because of this information, we find out the car is worth LESS THAN 1/3 of what we owe on it. Are you kidding me? Not to mention, we have been driving our infant son around in a vehicle that has been involved in an accident. My husband and I decided this must be some mistake. We ran the car fax report, only to find out the information was TRUE. James Ford NEVER disclosed any information about an accident or that the vehicle had had so many previous owners. I went into James Ford today to discuss this information with the General Manager Jim Brandt. First of all, he was extremely rude and dismissive. He essentially called me ignorant because I used car fax. He told me to my face that "Carfax is a joke! They're getting sued." He proceeded to tell me that he couldn't possibly remember who I was or what vehicle I had purchased because they sell "several hundred vehicles per month". Yet, 2 minutes later he remembered he ate the cost of the "extensive service". He pulled our file and there was NO CAR HISTORY REPORT. So he pulls the "industry standard report" as he called it and it shows no accidents. So I asked him in the Department of Motor Vehicles in Arizona are liars?(this is where the accident was reported on Carfax report) He said he couldn't have possibly known it was in an accident. I said isn't it your responsibility to research and know about the vehicles you sell? He said it's only his responsibility to know what is given to him by the industry standard. Jim Brandt also said that we are not the 9th owner of this vehicle, this is actually how many times the vehicle has been "registered". I don't believe it for a second. He quickly dismissed me and it was a complete waste of my time. He proceeded to tell me with a car that old of course there would be problems. I don't recall a 2006 vehicle being "so old". Also, he told me that I shouldn't worry in the slightest bit about driving a vehicle that's been in an accident, especially with my infant son because the car is "such a tank". He handed me his "industry standard report" and I walked out. Talk about a bunch of crap. Meanwhile, salesmen were rudely interrupting the conversation without even an "excuse me", they would just talk over me while they got their work done. My favorite part of the whole experience? He couldn't even wait for me to completely exit the dealership before he started speaking poorly about me and the purchase of my vehicle and the "free service" he performed on the car. James Ford will never have my business again. While I realize losing one customer isn't going to impact business, word of mouth and experience go very far. DO NOT BUY FROM JAMES FORD. EVER. I recently purchased a 2007 shelby GT here at James Ford. I went back to this dealer because I remembered a salesman there who was kind and curtious. When I got the car the people there were telling me all about the car and how much work it has done to it. What they forgot to mention is that they deleted the computer to stock settings when the car is not stock it has a supercharger which made the timing off in the top end. There excuse was we put it to the lowest setting so it would be safe for the consumer and the dealership. The kenne bell charger comes with a carb sticker which makes it legal to be on the street and pass smog. They also did not tell me about the bad bearing on the pulley which I had to replace 3 days later which I paid for. I now have a new car which has been in and out of the shop trying to correct what James Ford messed up. Don't talk about a car if you have no prior knowledge about it. I called Sean Johnson who sold me the car and told him what was going on and he was like it's your car now and I don't care, he listened to what I had to say but you could tell he didn't want to be bothered with it. He was supposed to call me back the same day to see if he could find out any information on the car and I never received a call back. Poor customer service, lack of knowledge of the cars they take in and poor follow up. Just remember one thing when you buy a car is that they don't care about you they only care about there check. To be honest I wish I never purchased this car from them. I will never go back, and I will make sure to let anyone know if you go out to Half Moon Bay just go to the beach and continue passing this poor excuse of a dealership. read more

Whether they don't see you standing in front of them or are totally blind is anyone's guess. YOU have to call them to see if the simple work they performed is done. And then they act like it was your responsibility to know when they have finished! What the EFF! Like seriously I'd rather let my car die then let these people touch it again. I kick myself in the foot for giving them another chance. It's always 5x as expensive as its suppose to be, and always 5x as long to do simple tasks. My husband and I are in the market for a hybrid, and they lied to us about the price to get us on the lot, were unresponsive to questions, and became very aggressive when we told them we wanted to keep looking. The worst part is that we were dealing with the general sales manager. You would think he would be professional. We were so confused why he was acting so terribly, until I stepped a little closer to him, he reeked of alcohol! What kind of car dealership is this?? To top it off, I hear from my neighbors that the service department is notorious for returns because they don't fix it the first time. Brought my leased company vehicle in for an "engine light". Very easy to set an appointment, you talk directly to a person. Tom was friendly and professional making the appointment. Marco wrote up the ticket, called me with update, part needed to be ordered and it would be done next day. Called me next day informing me job was complete, covered under warranty. Cashier ladies were also friendly. Great to see a dealership can offer good service. Only 4 stars because dealership looks a little aged. I guess the coast weather can do that. First of all the receptionist was very rude on the phone when I called down to see if a salesman was available (like she had something better to do, very short one word responses) When I did finally get a hold of someone about a truck I was interested in they told me it wasn't there any longer. I was talked into an extended warranty and was told verbally that it covered service only to find out (when I brought my ford escape hybrid in for the 6 month service) that it isn't covered. These folks are masters at making verbal promises that don't pan out in the fine print. I own my part in trusting them...they seemed really nice and helpful but they are sneaky. Very disappointed in salesman Steve Meister. At first, he was great, he gets stars for knowing his product. He kept repeating how customer satisfaction was a top priority. And like a couple of rubes, we trusted him. We wanted to order a truck with all the bells and whistles and some extra stuff to be the base for a large cab over camper we wanted to buy. Steve pointed out a couple of really cool comfort features that were new to us and that was what tipped the scales to go with a Ford truck. While making sure we got all the power and safety features we wanted, he kept saying that the comfort features were INCLUDED in the Lariat. We put a lot of planning and money into this purchase....he really worked with us on it. A couple of months down the road and the truck is finally done and ready for us. He rushed us through the paperwork, it was the end of the day and he said he wanted to get us into our new truck. It wasn't until after a couple of days when we noticed some of the cool features that he KNEW we wanted weren't there. In trying to find out what happened, we got the cold shoulder, brushed off and eventually told it was our fault because we "didn't check the box" that we wanted it. Seriously. WE didn't check a box? He was the one who did all the "box checking", we sat there and told him what we did and didn't want. The last contact was an email saying he hadn't returned previous emails because he knew there was nothing he could do to make us happy. Turns out the features we wanted were part of a special Lariat interior package option (that we would have been happy to order), and NOT standard in the Lariat. He gets two stars for knowing his product and being easy to work with. He loses stars for not taking responsibility for his mess up, being sneaky about it and insincere about customer satisfaction. read more

I drove nearly two hours to James Ford. Primarily because they had a truck that I wanted and the salesman, Gerald, was helpful and nice during our communication via phone and email. I arrived knowing Gerald wasn't there but was told to ask for Dee, the sales manager. He turned me over to a salesman. After a test drive we sat down to talk price. I had my own financing so I made an offer. After consulting with someone he made a counteroffer. After thinking it over I made an offer roughly in between the two offers. He stood up and said it was nice to meet you. Effectively telling me to leave. Clearly, customer service, common courtesy, and negotiating skills are not this mans strong suit. I'm now driving over to another Ford dealership in San Jose. Hopefully, the experience will be more positive. read more

Inquired about a car, and after I got my information I decided not to do business with them, I even informed them in writing via email to quit emailing me, and quit calling me. But obviously they do not get a clue. It has been over a month and they are still calling me........ un real. read more

Absolute best dealership experience we've had! Our salesperson Jordan is possibly the most accommodating, friendliest, and most important above all, most KNOWLEDGEABLE (and passionate!) about the Fords being sold, across the models. We were really impressed and super happy to interact with a salesperson that really knows their stuff, it makes a huge difference with the experience. My husband and I spent our Labor driving out to Half moon Bay from Castro Valley, a drive in itself, but thought we had found the perfect truck for us. While we had a great experience with Gerald our salesman and Lynna in Finance, I found the place to be completely unprofessional. There is a younger salesman in their old dingy cubicle like setting that had a client walk out on a sale he was with because she said she felt the numbers were not matching for what she wanted to pay for the car. With that, I am sitting there in ear shot of this small area with my 22 month old waiting while my husband test drove the Ford we were looking at and this sales man then proceeds to start cussing and saying the "F" bomb right there in front of my daughter and I to his co-workers, of which I am sure one of them was the owner. On top of this while signing the finance paperwork, my daughter was doing absolutely nothing to whom I believe is the owner (James) but looking at him while he was on the phone and smiling and he did not once respond even with a smile back, he did the opposite and said "do not touch my stuff",when she wasn't even close to his paperwork, the most unfriendly man in sales I have ever come across, be unfriendly to me, but not my innocent almost two year old that has been sitting in your dealership for 3 hours!!! Mama bear was pissed! If my husband didn't like the truck so much, I was ready to get up and leave due to these two incidences. I have been in sales and sales management for over 15 yrs and cannot fathom running a business like this. Had one of my reps or team members spoke out loud this way, the first thing I would have done was to rush over to the other customers apologizing and have excused my rep for the rest of the day if not firing them on the spot. But witnessing his lack of customer service himself, no wonder he doesn't give a crap how his business is ran. I hope for Gerald's sake that he gets more clients that as he deserves them. I also hope for their sake they get us our extra key to fulfill our Due Bill as we were not given a 2nd key at purchase. read more

Funny the recent 5 star review is from a sales person who works there.. ANYWAYS.. My husband & I stopped at this Ford to see what they have.. Not very much selection but a car caught our attention test drove.. Went to see how much payments would be but just wasn't low enough & the sales manager is not a nice guy at all.. Just rude Fast forward about a month I get a call from my mom that her credit has been ran by a Ford dealership.. SMH.. This is the only dealer we have been to & they ILLEGALLY ran my moms credit without her consent.. To top it off she has never set foot in a Ford dealership.. I'm baffled call the dealership & talked to the sales manager who was rude & got smart with me, saying that my moms & mine credit are tied together.. BULL.. I've had my credit ran before this & that has never been the case.. I don't appreciate dishonest places & especially when illegal activity has been done.. No no never come here.. read more

Yesterday was the 15 month service, and when i got my car, it looked like a new car. They washed it and fixed the rear view camera. The cost was reasonable. I'm happy with the service. I'd highly recommend James Ford. read more
