Dr. Sy's office is great! Came here for my first braces experience in middle school then again 15 years later as an adult for separate issues. Staff is friendly, professional, and attentive. It's a wholesome family business and all the doctors and hygenists were great at handling patients. If your kid is in need of an Orthodontist, look no further. This is the office you need to be at. They are professional, efficient, quite knowledgeable and capable. I've been through orthodontist treatment in my earlier years and did not have the experience they offer here. One thing I love about this office, besides the nice staff here, is they are on time and on top of things. Many dentists practices I've been to in the past make us wait, sometimes up to an hour. Dr. Sy's office usually takes us in at the scheduled appointment time, or at the most, a few minutes wait. They are located on the 2nd floor of the corner building. Parking lot can be a bit tight at times so don't bring your large SUV. There are about 9 seats on the waiting area. We had the privileged to have gotten all three Doctor Sys. Dr. James Sy and his two sons, Frank and Alex who helped Jade on her 2 yrs/2 mos journey with braces. They were professional, nice, friendly, kind, helpful, caring, and also a very supportive staff. I can't imagine going anywhere else except for this orthodontist. As long as you clean, maintain your braces per their instructions and go to all your appointments, you can definitely get excellent results. We highly recommend this orthodontic. We were very pleased to know she doesn't have to wear retainers all day, only 2 hours a day and while sleeping. She went home with clear and wired retainers. Came here based on recommendation with no regrets! Had to do a second round of ortho now as an adult due to wisdom teeth shifts and front gap that made retainers unwearable. Dr. Alex carefully took both my concerns and expected treatment/outcomes into consideration (I wanted full Invisalign as I really did not want to go through having a painful full mouth of metal braces again) and came up with a hybrid approach of bottom row metal braces and top row Invisalign, which worked out really well and I really appreciated his thoughtfulness. Dr.Alex, Dr.Sy and their team were kind, professional, carefully alert at any sign of discomfort and would patiently address any questions/concerns I had as my case progressed. ~Two years later, teeth aligned and gap fixed and I feel like I can smile openly again. Long overdue review but I got my braces removed back in October 2021 and I really want to thank Dr. Alex for being so patient with me. I got my braces in September 2019 and was originally quoted a treatment period of 20 months but with the pandemic happening, a few of my appointments were pushed back. When the office reopened, I was kind of hesitant to go but at the same time, I really wanted to so that my braces will be off sooner. Thankfully, the staff really goes above and beyond and I felt really safe coming back. They give you hand sanitizer before you enter the room, spray down the chairs after every patient and they distance you from other patients in the room. Even after the official treatment period is over, they make sure you're 100% satisfied with your teeth. I've been having some trouble with my lower teeth shifting even with me wearing my retainers every night and Dr. Alex is not giving up on me. He got new retainers made for me and is keeping a close look to make sure my teeth are straight again. 5/5 stars for Dr. Alex! Funny side comment: even after 2+ years of treatment and of seeing me at least once every month during those 2 years, they still spelled my name incorrectly on my retainers read more

I got my braces removed recently and I am amazed at the results. They look truly beautiful to me and I'm so happy and thankful that Dr. Sy & Alex and their team were able to make this happen for me. Backstory (if you are interested): I had both of my lower 2nd molars coming in sideways causing my teeth to slowly overcrowd more on one side. It wasn't really an issue until aching and a particular odor coming from my mouth started to occur which is when I decided to seek help. All the other orthodontists I was referred to or met with all suggested that I get them both removed and remove the top teeth as well since the upper molars wouldn't have anything to bite down to. However, I did not think removing healthy teeth was the solution to my problem. I waited it out until it was unbearable which I think was bad because the sooner the better. After meeting with Dr. Sy in 2019 I was pretty confident after the first consultation that he was the man I wanted to help me get my "perfect smile". He showed me previous cases that he's done with similar situations which made him very credible and trustworthy. He even guaranteed me that no healthy teeth had to be pulled which I was very happy about. I think a few months in Dr. Alex started to treat me as well. I started coming before COVID-19 (September 2019) but had to stop coming so frequently when the pandemic was at its peak. The office closed down for emergencies only, but even with that, I was still able to get my braces off around the predicted time which was 2 years (September 2021). Dr. Sy is a very friendly and nice man. He really wants to best for his patients and I truly admire that. Dr. Alex is also awesome! We have great conversations and he's really informative on dental tips and procedures if you ask him about it. They are both absolutely great at what they do and you can tell they really want what's best for you. The assistants/staff are really pleasant. They are very helpful and are nice to talk to. The office is upstairs above the nail salon. The atmosphere is very mellow. The parking lot is very tight during the day, but luckily there's street parking. Overall, would definitely recommend anyone who's looking for orthodontists who are truly dedicated to getting you to feel the best about your smile. You won't regret it. read more

I did my braces here as an adult to close an open bite (what other orthos were labeling an advanced case/saying I needed jaw surgery for and upcharging) and got a reasonable cost with minimally invasive treatment (just metal braces, no extractions/surgery). Both Dr. Sy and Dr. Alex (the practicing father and son duo) took turns monitoring my case month after month to make sure it was on track and would patiently answer any questions I had around the treatment and teeth in general. If you have any questions at any time just ask them. They're both warm, knowledgeable orthodontists who look out for your best interest. I had my first treatment with Dr. Sy 20 years ago.  I lost my retainers, and my teeth shifted a bit, so I went back to him.  The treatment supposed to take 1 year.  After the second visit, my teeth were alredy straightened nicely, and I was really happy about that. ***My younger sister also got her treatment with Dr. Sy 20 years ago at the same time with me.  Dr. Sy accidently slipped his tool and chipped one of her front teeth.  But he filed the other front teeth to make them silmilar length, so she wasn't resentful in the end.  My poor sister.... **** On my third visit of starting treatment, he filed one of my front teeth short, and a molar, without saying anything to me.  I was horrified and asked why he did that, and he said teeth look prettier when they are same size.  Well, I disagree and I love my two big front teeth!  Remember, I have been worried there might be an accident like my sister's.  What worse was my teeth alignment shifted so badly from shaving the teeth.  He did so without my permission. Dr. Sy had hard time correcting them, and I was in pain and couldn't chew with teeth on the side he filed for over 8 months.  I thought I will lose some of my teeth.  When I confronted him, and told him about my concern, he took it poorly.  Dr. Sy said: "I did not charge you a lot, and you did not appreciate.  You are forcing me to do less.  I will finish fast and you are out of here." I have lost trust on him, and regreted that I ever went to him.  I looked for a new othodontist, but no one wanted to take on.  I asked other othodontists if it is normal to file your teeth unnecessary,  and they all said: no, usually at the end of treatment only if necessary.  I had no choice but to stick with him for 1 year and 3 months.  He has been saying the treatment is almost done, while my teeth weren't even aligned correctly. He traveled during the month of November, and told me that he will remove the braces when he came back in a month.  One metal bracket got loose while he was away.  It was hurt and also I needed to take off any metal on my body. I looked for an orthodontic and found one.  My teeth weren't biting correctly, and Jame Sy cannot close my teeth back, so I paid a lot more to correct to correct what he has done. I wore invasalign for another 9 months and my teeth finally close and look nice, but the side he damaged no longer can chew perfectly like before. My new othodontist said, this is the best it can get because of anatomy of the teeth. Consumers beware! read more

I am 32 years old and had Dr. James Sy as my orthodontist who pulled 4 teeth due to overcrowding when I was in the 7th grade. I also had headgear to fix an overbite. Although my teeth were straight, I developed OSA and Upper Airway resistance Syndrome as an adult. I also developed severe TMD as a result of my airway issue. I have breathing problems now, cannot sleep, constant fatigue, I've spent 30 thousand+dollars on TMJ treatment and pain treatment. That is not including the amount of money I will CONTINUE TO SPEND ON FURTHER TREATMENT. I also have seen multiple sleep drs and I have a prescribed BIPAP. I now see an amazing ENT/sleep surgeon in LA at the Breathe Institute named Dr. Zhagi who did a CBCT at his office and said my upper palate is 30 mm. Normal width for an adult is 38-42 mm. Lmao. My next step is to UNDO Dr. Sy's mistakes YEARS AGO. I will need a surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion with an OMFS. I will then have to start myofunctional therapy and do a tongue tie release. My quality of life and sleep have decreased SO MUCH from what has been done. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE TAKING YOUR KIDS TO THIS ORTHODONTIST. There are so many great functional air way focused orthodontists/dentists out there. DO NOT GO HERE! WEAR YOUR RETAINER. I've known Dr. Sy since I was 12 years old. I'm now 25 years old. The first time I went to him, he actually completed my treatment ahead of time. It took two years versus two and a half. My teeth came out perfect. Alas, when I got to college, I started seeing him less until eventually, I fell off the wagon and stopped wearing my retainer...BIG MISTAKE. I just finished my second treatment with him, which only took a few months. As for the negative comments on this page, Dr. Sy's always been pretty cool with me. He's never treated me poorly, so I'm really surprised that the negative reviews exist. I luckily had my teeth fixed twice because I initially didn't wear my retainers enough, and he was very considerate and understanding about it.
