Wow, wow, wow! It's been a while since I've dined at a Korean restaurant that was so well-rounded across the board. Hansang Tofu checked every box between food, service, ambiance, parking... everything was on point. FOOD: 9/10 Every single banchan (side dish) they served was fresh and packed with flavor. I've been traumatized by restaurants serving funky-tasting kimchi or ban chan in general, so I was relieved that theirs tasted fresh and delicious. Honestly, all of the banchan were so, so good. I ordered the Naengmyeon (cold noodles), and this had to be one of the best bowls I've had. I really appreciated that they didn't skimp on the toppings. I've had naengmyeon elsewhere that was pretty bare, just buckwheat noodles, cold broth, and maybe a few strands of cucumber. Here, my bowl came with a hard boiled egg, two slices of beef, radish, cucumber, and a generous portion of noodles. The mustard and vinegar were ready and served on the side, as they should be. Their soy garlic wings were HELLA good. Perfectly double-fried, packed with flavor, piping hot, and the chicken was still juicy and moist inside. So good. SERVICE: 10/10 Friendly, kind, and efficient service!! Yes, yes, YES. We were greeted right away with such a warm, energetic welcome. All the tables were either occupied or still being cleaned, so while we waited, one of the ladies handed us menus. Then, as they were getting our table ready, she offered to take our order before we even sat down. By the time we were seated, our food was already being prepared. LOVE THAT!! They were also incredibly attentive throughout our meal. AMBIANCE: 9/10 The restaurant is spacious, very clean, and of course had K-pop music videos playing on the TVs at a volume that was actually enjoyable and not overwhelming. It's a comfy space. Homey Korean spot with amazing food. The service was great and the two ahjummas working were super nice and friendly. The banchan was all top tier, but my favorites were the braised potatoes and marinated eggplant. The yukgaejang had good flavor and wasnt too spicy, and had a good proportion of the vegetables, brisket and egg. Handing Tofu was a choice my daughter made to eat at for her bday. We love a good Korean restaurant so why not. Plenty of parking in the plaza where this restaurant is located. Easy to find. The restaurant itself is pretty small but was able to fit our family of seven. We were treated right when we came in . The lady server was good on attention to detail what we needed and friendly. We tried a few of their dishes but my family was so hungry, I couldn't take a picture fast enough of everything. Haha Tried their whole batch of soy garlic chicken wings. It was cooked well but the outside coating tasted a little overcooked and not as much flavor in the chicken or seasoning. The glaze was not enough. That was a little disappointing for me. Sticky floors and dirty plates/old bowls/utensils can easily upset customers here. It was opening hour too. This is my first time back after many years. $36.99 Bulgogi & Tofu Soup size was actually very disappointing now (so small). Yes, how did the portions get this much smaller when back then, a special combination order could easily feed two people. Not anymore. Combination soup was extra small sized bowl now. Banchan side dishes are still good and plentiful. We also ordered a $19.99 half order of soy garlic fried chicken which still tasted great. Soups are in the $19.99 range, so were most of the half fried chicken selections, and lunch entrees around $20.99 each. Definitely expect higher prices in future. I'm here for the galbi tang. It is perfection every time. The soup is well seasoned and the meat is fall off the bone tender. Pair this with side dishes and it's the most comforting meal during the winter. Along with the galbi tang, this particular time we ordered a combo tofu and bulgogi dish. First time at this place. Loved all the banchans!! And they will refill them too. Husband got the chicken bibimbop and I got the mushroom tofu. He loved the dolsot bibimbop. Our menu included Soy garlic Fried Chicken, Beef Bulgogi , Jap-Chae, Korean Kimchi , Fresh Salad with Vegan Dressing, Braise Potato (Gamja Jorim) and white rice. My favorites are the soy garlic fried chicken, which totally soaked up the flavors and the braised potato, which is sweet and savory in the soy sauce braise. Jap Chae is ok, no egg and slightly oily. Unfortunately had bad experiences the past few visits. Ordered a lot each time except for today, where we just ordered an entree per person instead of ordering extra. Sometimes there aren't many customers and other times it gets busy depending on the time of visit, but regardless, the past few visits when asked for a refill on 2-3 dishes of their delicious Bonchon, none were given which I found odd given the how some other recent reviews stated they were given 1-2 rounds of refills. Today, even after reminding the server twice for a refill of two Bonchon sides that we hadn't finished yet (we only asked because the server came to ask how everything was), she took away the Bonchon that weren't finished yet and never gave the refill. Might as well not ask at all and not take away our unfinished food while we were still in the middle of our meal! Always tip well but this time tipped according to the actual service because this incident wasn't just once or twice. It's been the past few visits. My coworkers and I were craving cold noodles so we stumbled upon Hansang Tofu on Yelp. When we pulled up to the restaurant my coworker was like, "oh! I had their tofu soup before and it's good, it's the closest tasting soondubu to what I had in Korea." So we were all excited to try the food! Do not come here during the lunch rush! We mistakingly went here at 12:00PM on a Tuesday and the wait for our food was terribly long. However, they did keep filling our ban chan as we waited. So that was very nice. Now about the food. After looking at the menu, we stuck with our original plan which is ordering cold noodles. And I wish I ordered the tofu soup because our cold noodles were disappointing. The noodles were soggy and the broth was as bland. They gave us one thick, hard, slice of beef that you cannot bite through with your teeth. Totally not worth the $21 per bowl price point. We ordered spicy tteokbokki as an appetizer, dolsot bibimbap, and kimchi jji gae (kimchi stew with tofu and pork). Loved the banchan! The fish cake, pickled cucumbers, and eggplant were my favorites. My friend dug in hard to the potatoes. She said some of the potatoes were a bit undercooked. But we still had two refills on each of these dishes! Our main dishes were prepared well too, with great flavor and just the right amount of spiciness in the stew. The spicy tteokbokki wasn't too spicy and the rice sticks were cooked perfectly chewy. This is not a huge place, so seating probably isn't ideal for large groups unless you get there early (not sure if they take reservations). Parking was easy as this place is located in a strip mall. Soups are top notch -- I always get a soup when I come and I'm never disappointed, no matter what I get. The seafood pancake is also a must, perfectly crispy, tender and fresh. But the BEST part of Hansang is the banchan. Literally the best banchan in the Bay in terms of quality and variety (plus they sell it in bulk for a decent price). Came here again on a weekend lunch. It was quite busy and my party of 3 waited around 20 minutes. They seemed short staffed as there were tables that needed bussing for a while. The highlight was definitely the yukgaejang, which was rich and perfectly spicy. The dolsot bibimbap rice was a little soggy and the soy garlic fried chicken was a little dry. The portion is lot between 2 people, I would definitely get this to share. 4.5/5* #39 DWAE JI BULGOGI + TOFU SOUP $35.99 -spicy grilled marinated pork with tofu soup. You can select from any of their tofu soups as well as the spicy level, so my husband selected spicy pork tofu soup. It came with a raw egg on the side which the waitress will crack in for you once the sizzling hot soup arrives. The pork in the tofu soup was a bit dry for me but still very tasty. Back at hansang again, we always love hansang. It's still crowded and expect a wait. We got the squid with teobokki for the first time today. I was expecting Sautéed squid in the teobokki so I was disappointed with the crispy squid, but it was still very yummy. The squids were arranged on top so they stayed crispy, you can drip them in the sauce and it's nice. We got mild. For tofu soup I went with vegetable tofu soup and it was OK. It could have used some more type of Umami, maybe next time I will try mushroom or seafood. My husband went with his standby of cheese and ham and said it was delicious.
