Be Leery of empty restaurants. 2 Stars only because the place was nice inside and it was clean. We were a large group and all of the food very bad, no other way to describe it. Any corner that could have been cut with the food was not just cut, it was chopped. It really was the worst sushi and Chinese food I have ever had and my guests all agreed. I have been coming to Jani on my way back home usually because it is so close to the highway but lately the consistency is pretty bad. Today, the cucumber roll we ordered was bad, the cucumber was mush and was inedible. If you can't tell it's bad, then you should not be in business. What did you save by serving that, 5 cents? I've been wanting to try this spot for some time and finally did. There's a parking lot so parking wasn't a hassle. The restaurant is nice and has a pretty set-up. They were playing low music and it was pretty relaxed. We were seated right away and the waiter came with our menu. The menu is expansive and has so many options. We ended up going with the Three Rolls ($17) and Singapore Rice Noodles ($14). We were served pretty quickly. The rolls (California, New York, and Boston) came with Miso soup. The rolls weren't anything unique but they tasted good and we enjoyed it. The Singapore Rice Noodles was tasty and had a good amount of curry. It was a tad bit salty but otherwise very delicious. I enjoyed my visit and will probably be back in the future to try their other dishes (they have dim sum items too!) It's a cute restaurant and has a good variety of food with decent prices. This place also has Chinese food, but we haven't tried yet. We only ordered Japanese food one time so far. Sushi is ok, not the best and not the worst. Too much rice given on the sushi rolls in my opinion. My daughter enjoyed the Unagi Don, which is broiled eel topped with special sauce over rice. She said it was ok, too, because she's had better tasting eel elsewhere. read more

The service was very good. My husband ordered crispy orange chicken. The chicken wasn't crispy at all and my husband called the waitress over who sent over the manager. We told him this is not crispy at all and he has ordered it many times and this was mushy. We asked if he could have another dish and was told no that's the way it is! I have never went to a restaurant where if you don't like the way the food is prepared they won't give you a new dish. We have been there many times and we won't be back. read more

I had a wonderful birthday celebration here. The place is your refined for a sit down Chinese restaurant. They have all of the typical Chinese menu items available, and a spectacular lunch special that includes soup and choice of rice. I've been ordering takeout and going to dine in for about 5 years. Food was always delicious. People were always welcoming. Still are. The food has been disappointing the last few times. I've been coming here for years with my family and I never wrote a review. This review is long overdue. My boyfriend and I came on New Years Eve to bring in 2018. We started off with soup because Long Island has been super cold lately! I had egg drop soup, and my boyfriend had egg drop wonton. Super hot and super delicious! For an appetizer we had fried pork dumplings. Fried to perfection and full of pork. Nice and flavorful. Mmm! For my entree I got Szechuan chicken. A little spicy and full of flavor. The menu says it comes with shredded chicken, but I got it sliced. My boyfriend got twice cooked pork. It came with veggies and tofu. He felt the tofu was out of place being that he ordered pork, not a vegetarian dish. Service was great, as it always is. Our waitress continued to stop by our table to see if we needed anything. Some of my favorite dishes here are garlicky shrimp, mango chicken and all the sushi. Alex, the owner is amazing and remembers my family and I each time we come by. This restaurants has the worst service ever . I did order fried rice from this place for take away . I asked twice while placing an order not to have meat in fried rice . And I checked again while picking up and every time asked they replied no meat . When I took home and opened I see pork all over . I called them immediately and sent pictures . They made some excuse and agreed to replace the food for me with delivery . When the delivery guy JHONSON arrived . He was standing on the road and shouted , why you have to order from Hicksville , you have Chinese places nearby your house . He said not to order from their place. They made a mistake , and the behavior of delivery person is terrible . I would ask the same question . Why do you guys run the business if you can't give the proper food . I've been a customer at Jani for almost 2 decades. This was the first place I ever had sesame chicken from as a child. Jani holds a special place in my tastebuds and heart! Even though I have moved, you better believe I will drive 30 minutes just to eat from here. My 5 star may be bias because this is the only Chinese restaurant I eat at. I rarely eat Chinese food elsewhere. I don't eat Chinese food on vacations, out of the state, in NYC, etc. The Chinese food at Jani is the best and I don't feel like being disappointed by having it elsewhere. I'll always compare the quality/taste of any Chinese food to Jani. Not many places would do too well up against Jani's Chinese. My 5 star may also be skewed because I am not rating the Japanese portion of Jani. I know this is a Chinese/Japanese fusion but I can't speak much on the Japanese portion because I don't get it frequently. This is my opinion and my experience as a customer for 2 decades. I love coming here because the staff is so friendly and makes you feel like family. We came for my friends birthday, who is a regular there, so he knows the owners & staff well & they're always so accommodating to his large group. I ordered the jani special, which was the exact 'Caribbean style' drink I needed, not too sugary despite the curaçao. I wasn't super hungry so I got a few small things-shrimp roll, steamed vegetable dumplings and mango and avocado sushi roll. I've never had the roll with mango before and I was not disappointed! LOVE this place! The Chinese food is good and the sushi is excellent. I love finding a restaurant that serves both(since my mom doesn't eat sushi) and Jani more than fits the bill. My mom and I usually make our own pu-pu platter by ordering Shrimp Lo Mein(no carrot), Chicken & Broccoli, and Chicken Fried Rice. I'll usually start with an order of California and Kani rolls. We usually take some to-go and have another meal or two at home. We definitely get our money's worth. The manager usually greets us and seats us. He is very nice, hands us the napkins as well as check on us throughout the meal to make sure everything is good. Highly recommend Jani. read more

I really enjoyed my meal here after a long day at work. Started off with a nice big Sapporo, which the waiter poured in a glass for me. Then out came the huge home-made fried noodles and duck sauce! One of my favorite things. As my appetizer, I ordered the Crystal shrimp dumplings which were probably the best dumplings I have ever had. Soft and cooked to perfection, with a fantastic display to top it off. For my entree I got the pan fried noodles with scallops, crab, shrimp, chicken and broccoli. It was definitely different, as half of the noodles were hard as if they weren't cooked and the other half cooked. I'm not sure if this was done purposely or not but luckily for me, I love uncooked noodles anyway so I loved the dish. After my meal, they wrapped up my leftovers for me (the entree was a big serving) and came out with some complementary pineapple and a fortune cookie. The wait staff was wonderful and very personable. I saw them making nice conversation with the other tables and especially with the children. The lighting was colorful yet ambient, and the music was relaxing - a mix of classical and authentic Asian music which really pulled it all together for me. My wife and I have been going to Jani for eat in and take out for over 20 yrs or so occasionally. We always liked the food but yesterday I bought out take out luch special . I had sweet and sour shrimp and granted its takeout and a lunch special but the shrimp was so overcooked it was almost uneatable , really don't know why I did but its lunch and when your hungry you eat . And no I did not over heat it . My wife had fried rice and shrimp and she said hers was fine . I hope they didn't give me some left over shrimp . Looking at the menu and seeing things like egg rolls, and General Tso Chicken, egg drop soup, you realize pretty quickly this is just a dressed up Chinese restaurant. If you have a place close to you that does some special things you look, skip this place. Treated like an actual restaurant, you get a bowl of crunchy noodles, and tea to start. Surfing the app menu you see things like Gyoza and Shumai you realize that they also have mixed in some Japanese specialties in there. So we went for the mix. App; Shumai & Gyoza: Very good, very fresh Entree; Hunan Duck: Like 3 pieces of meat on some skin strips in the entire dish Scallops and Veggies: When scallops are cooked real well they don't have a fish taste or smell.... these were not cooked well Sides: Chinese Sauteed Eggplant: Over powering sauce Scallion Pancakes: way too bready to compete w/ real scallion pancakes, basically just a hair above a hotpocket And there you go. Walking out of there spending nearly $100 doesn't seem like much for a bunch of food for 2, but when you can eat as much and actually enjoy it for under $30 at your local place, you see where the gripe comes in. I moved around the corner from Jani a couple months ago. I hate writing one time reviews because you never know it could've been their best or worst service. After about 10-15 times I would absolutely recommend Jani. 1 time we had a miscommunication on an order and I got an extra dish, but every other time it's been spectacular. This isn't your normal Chinese place with all greasy food this is a little higher end with less grease. They do the same job every time too which is great. Excellent job Jani! read more

I didn't like the chicken and broccoli. the sweet and sour chicken is very good, but they put the sauce on it so it looses its crispiness. Ask for sauce on the side! I was very quickly seated and brought Chinese tea. The tea was mild and tasty. I ordered the 2 roll sushi lunch special, it came with free miso soup. The Miso soup was light on the stomach and taste buds with green vegetable flavor and a slight salt. It was real solid. The sushi I ordered was tuna and salmon, both were good and exactly what I wanted. The ginger and wasabi was also good. I finished my order with pork shumai - very tasty and a great price! This place is worth going to. If I work in the area I can see myself getting lunch here once a week. read more

Absolute worst experience I've had for Delivery in my LIFE. I put the bag down after I got it, only to notice that I was dragging sauce everywhere! It's as if they put the sauce in the brown bag! There is sauce all over my carpet and all over my order, I'm sure there is sauce on the drivers seat now too. So I called to talk about it with the Owner and he is just being defensive.
