I used to go to Anna for years but after a while she just didn't want to give me the color I kept asking her to do which was the platinum grey color that's been trending a while now . So I finally left about a year and a half ago researching other salons and found a great stylist who gladly gave me the color and cut I've always desired without damaging my Hair . So I don't know why Ana wouldn't give me that color perhaps she just wasn't skilled enough yet but it's kind of funny because now she also has her hair color the same as what I'd been asking her to do on me! So lesson here is if your not getting what you ask for from a stylist research around and find the stylist that will gladly give you the hair you have always wanted. The salon in general is okay clean nice area but the staff tends to gossip about their clients making you feel like if they do that in-front of you they probably will do it behind your back as well ! I didn't and explained "not too blonde" as we started, but I ended up an overall blonde-ish shade that didn't work well with my skin color. Disturbingly, I've been receiving some harrassing messages from loyal Janna followers (from other Yelpers who have reviewed her, many of whom have VERY few reviews... I actually just noticed that of Janna's 28 reviews, 13 have less than 10 reviews total and 7 have 1 review which happens to be Janna's, hmm). FYI I am being honest in sharing MY experience, which was apparently different from yours. Yes, I paid $105 including tip (which I shouldn't have given) for my cut. Several other reviews say she is "pricey" which she most definitely IS. Nobody else has posted what they've paid for their cut and Janna's assistant wouldn't give me a number over the phone so I had no idea how much to expect to pay. After my haircut she wrote my total on a piece of paper, with tip it came out to $105. For those screaming at me that my price is wrong, how much were you charged so I have something to compare my price to? Yes, I agree with other posters who have said she does NOT seem to be very good with Asian hair (apparently she's better with blondes but even a blonde reviewer wasn't thrilled - you can't please EVERYONE, such is the nature of the service industry). For the record, I have EXTREMELY fine, thin, Asian hair and I wasn't happy or impressed with her work, period. Yes, I understand that you may disagree with me but FYI Yelp is for voicing personal experiences and maybe Janna was having an off day with me but that was MY honest-to-goodness experience and it wasn't a good one. Whatever the reason, I don't appreciate the harrassment and it doesn't reflect well on you or on the stylist, either. How would other people feel if they knew they were going to be harrassed if they tried out Janna, didn't like her and didn't want to join the Janna Hines fan club, and posted a less-than-5-star review? Not so good. Learn some class and tact. Harrassing someone with a different opinion than you really isn't cool. Pardon me if I'm wrong but part of the purpose of yelp is to bring consumers together to trade notes, experiences and numbers to ensure everyone is being treated fairly and treated well. I met Janna 2 weeks ago and my life hasn't been the same since. Ok, life is pretty much the same, but my hair most certainly is not. First of all, as almost everyone else has mentioned - Janna is a nice, nice woman. Even tho her salon is in the 90210, there is no pretension, no noses in the air. You walk in and Janna instantly makes you feel comfortable. I knew this was going to be a good experience when Janna asked me questions like, How long do you want to spend on your hair in the morning? I said not long and explained that I'm sort hair-challenged, so whatever she did had to be fairly novice level styling wise and lo-and-behold - Janna actually listened to me. I know! A stylist that listens to what you want! I didn't know they existed anymore! She didn't do anything drastic, but my hair just looks better. I only spend about 15 minutes on it in the morning, and I'm usually pretty happy with how it looks, and it stays looking good all day. For the past 3 years I've been seeing Janna I've come to realize that finding a hair stylist is like finding a good man. Sometimes you have to go through a ton of losers before you find your one & only. And one woman's fantasy can be another person's nightmare ... and that's why I wanted to update my review because I've been thinking about some of the comments written on this page about how she allegedly overcharges, how she supposedly cannot do good layers, and how she's not adept at cutting/styling Asian hair -- those comments and generalizations could not be more wrong and I'm just hopeful that others who turn to Yelp to find a good stylist take those outlier comments with a grain of salt. First, with respect to price, call me cheap but I've never been one to let anyone touch my hair (or face/body part, for that matter) without first asking the prefatory "how much" question so I know what I'm getting into. I learned my lesson after I went to a salon that will go nameless in Brentwood that charged me a whopping $400 for a cut and basic highlights. The first time I went to see Janna I asked what it would cost to cut my hair and how much it would cost if I did just highlights v. all-over color v. combination of those two. Janna did not hesitate to provide a quote & in fact, the price for my cuts & color variations have remained the same throughout the years I've been seeing her. With respect to the claim that she's not that great at layers -- I couldn't think of anything further from the truth. I've worn layers in my hair for longer than I can remember and Janna's great at doing layers that grow out really well, i.e., even though I may (foreshame) wait until I feel like Swamp-Thing, my layers grow out in a way that makes the overdue haircut not so obvious. As for the derogation that she's not adept at dealing with Asian hair -- look, I'm an Asian gal with fine, stick straight hair and for the 3 years that I've been seeing Janna I've had nothing but great cuts, great color, and great bounce in my hair. No exaggeration, I get compliments on my hair at least a few times a week because of her work. And MIRACULOUSLY, despite the fact that I get color & highlights every time that I see her (which is about every 8 weeks) my hair has gotten softer, shinier, and generally feels much healthier. The ironic thing is, before Janna I was seeing a Korean stylist in K-town, i.e., someone who caters to Asian hair all the time, and Janna does a much better job with my cut & color. In fact, the reason I sought Janna out was because my Asian hair dresser was starting to make my hair feel like hay. I respect the fact that everyone has a right to say their piece on Yelp, and in that regard, I think it's entirely proper for Janna's satisfied clients to come forward and make sure that people who post negative one-off reviews don't sully her overall fantastic and well-deserved reputation. read more

Holy smokes, Batman, I've just been Janna Hines'd, and I love it! After being greeted, shampooed, and combed out by Julie, Janna's fabulous assistant, I eagerly awaited my turn as Janna was finishing up a blow dry with the client before me who, upon completion, stared lovingly at her reflection and said "Aren't I just the cutest 60 something year old woman!" And yes, she was right. She definitely was the cutest 60 something year old I saw all day! She was all smiles when she walked out; I hope I'm that vibrant, fun and chic when I grow up. So here's my story: I originally scheduled for a skip perm. I was pleased with Janna's consultative approach towards the game plan from the get go. She questioned me about the state of my hair, "carfax" style as she analyzed a strand of my hair. I told her all about the bleaching and subsequent coloring of my hair three months back. She decided to begin with a cut and as she pondered on the possible hair disaster that might result from even more chemical abuse, she asked "how much would you hate me if I said to hold off on getting the perm?" My heart sank and fell right along with the tufts of hair trimmings collecting on the floor. "I wouldn't TOTALLY hate you" I muttered, with a hopeful doe-eyed look on my face. She continued to explain why it was a better idea for us to give my hair a chance to recover and grow out before jumping into anything. Although I didn't want to believe it, she was right. Dammit, she was right. When we first began talking, I told Janna that I found her through Yelp, and not surprisingly these reviews have sent a number of people her way. Since my appointment turned into a cut rather than a perm, this opened up a slot for a fellow yelper from Washington who was trying to get in all day. Apparently she would only be in town for a few more days and was desperately trying to be Janna Hines'd before leaving L.A. Well, it must have been the grace of the hair gods smiling upon her, or some cosmic symbiotic connection between the Washington yelper and I. Sharing is caring and everyone has the right to gorgeous hair so it must have been destiny. Reluctantly but willingly I took Janna's advice, and the more my hair took shape during my cut, the better I felt about forgoing the perm. Janna saved me from a potential hair crisis, just weeks before my big trip with the BF to Maui. I could have gone there with a dread locked bird nest, or as Janna put it, "your hair giving you the finger." Noooo, we don't want that now. Hair, let's play nice and be friends. Mommy promises to listen to the pro and stop mistreating you! Julie helped with the blowdry, and my hair looked healthy, full of bouncy layers, and sexy as a mofo. Janna was pleased, and I loved it. She suggested a great product that she used during my blowout that made my hair feel like silk from Wella. She didn't push the product at all; the results spoke for themselves and I bought it because of that, not from pressure like in other salons. How can you not appreciate a stylist who listens to what you want, who will give you advice about what's best (even if it means she makes less $ off of you), and who is so down to earth and awesome at what she does? SOLD!! Janna truly cares about your hair and about giving you a great experience, and that's why she's yelped about in such a positive light. Having a stylist with such a barrage of qualities that you look for in someone you entrust your hair to is few and far between. It's about as rare as finding a woman walking down Rodeo Drive who hasn't gotten botoxed, liposuctioned, or without an "enhanced" chest. Yes, THAT rare. She's confessed that she's not a good one night stand. No way Jose. Miss Janna's a relationship kinda gal, and when you leave the salon you'll feel all shiny and new. I pulled my vanity mirror down and admired my 'do at all the stoplights I encountered on my way home. Yeah, I think I can live without a skip perm experience for a while. Besides, it'll give me something to look forward to, in addition to an awesome 6 color highlight session at some point in the future too. Thank you so much, Yelpers! I went to Janna Hines last night based on the recommendations here and now I LOVE my hair! After years of having a short bob (and regular haircuts every 6 weeks), I decided to grow out my hair long and stopped getting haircuts. That was more than a year and a half ago and my hair was so unhappy. It was flat and lifeless and so plain Jane that I seriously considered going back to a short bob. Thank God I didn't! Janna, being as skilled, knowledgeable and considerate as she is, cut my hair so that it was exactly what I asked for and even better than what I had hoped for. (Side-sweeping bangs and cascading long layers) My hair is SO pretty and I feel amazing! YAY!!!!! In addition, Janna is such a fun and genuine person and not fake at all. She is definitely not what you imagine when you think of a stylist (as she readily admits), but that is not a bad thing. She is there for you and as such, is wholly attitude-free (a rarity in Beverly Hills.) Regarding her prices, for how good she is, she is a bargain. My boyfriend just had a cut a couple of blocks away for $50 more and he wasn't as happy as I was. I am in love, and her name is Janna. Today was my first visit to Janna, who I found on Yelp thanks to everyone's helpful reviews. I was skeptical to say the least. After 12 years in LA and having my blonde hair highlighted at many different places around town, I had honestly given up on ever finding someone who could give me that beautiful shade of baby blonde that I once had naturally. Over the years I've found a couple of great people, both of whom I stuck with for years, and both of whom moved out of the country. Since then I've paid everything from $75 - $350 and had everything from decent to horrendous (grey/ green/ orange) highlights. Like I said, I had almost given up. Last week I had an experience on the horrendous side of the scale, with a stylist at Sit Still in Venice. Despite bringing pictures and using very specific language - "baby blonde", "very bright around my face", "like I've been surfing all summer", "natural", I came out with something that was not only ugly and uneven, but also not REMOTELY what I had asked for. I left there feeling like I had just been robbed and disfigured in the process (no pun intended). So, after a few tears and a couple of hours on Yelp searching for someone to fix my mess, I found Janna and an overwhelming amount of positive reviews, especially about blondes. Let me digress for a moment and have a little straight talk with my fellow blondes. Unless you favor the shade I call "porno blonde" - bleached beyond all recognition with zero density, think Heidi Montag - you understand how difficult it is to find the right shade of blonde for your skin tone, and then how hard it is to find someone who can keep it up for you. While an "ash" tone can make one person look amazing, it's my Vietnam. Get me too "gold" and I look like I've been dead for weeks and somehow reanimated. What works for me - and it's ALL that works for me - is that perfect little sweet spot - not ashy, but not too gold, that perfect "baby blonde". That ladies, is what Janna gave me. Not only is she great to be around (very un-Beverly Hills) and very sweet and down to earth, but hear this: SHE ROCKED MY WORLD. My hair looks better than it has in years, and as long as I live in LA I will never, ever go to anyone else. In fact, I don't think I CAN ever live anywhere else, because I won't be able to leave Janna (or Trader Joe's for that matter, but that's a "whole other Oprah" as they say). After reading all of the Yelp reviews, I had to see Janna. As a blonde who has specific challenges (e.g. fine hair, easily damages, already naturally light who doesnt want to go "sunny" or "gold"), I have had my fair share of overpriced "pros" who charge alot of money to damage your hair and make it look less than what it should be (75% vs the 110% paid for). I was embarassed by the work some of my previous colorists (meaning, I looked horrible and damaged) and Janna didnt even bat an eye. A true professional, she knew what to do - and wove the most AMAZING colors and highlights through my hair. She listened, she evalutated the situation and she made magic happen! She's 150%. Even though this is my first Yelp review, it's a real review. Janna is the first ever to inspire me to actually write a Yelp review. Let me start by saying to every male, female, young and old... If you decide to visit Janna Hines, she will be the last hair stylist you ever go to because she really is THAT good!!! I have been going to Janna for color, highlight and cut for several years. My thirty-two year old daughter is also a true blue fan and would never consider letting anyone else touch her hair. There are many reasons why we are so faithful to Janna, but I'm not here to write a book, so here are the top three: 1. Janna has boldly taken me (at my request, of course) to places no other hair stylist could successfully go before. We've gone from brunette to blonde, then blonde to redhead, then redhead back to brunette (but with soft honey highlights) which I am presently rocking AND loving very much. She is brilliant with matching skin tone to appropriate hair color tone, so each color has looked as if it were the color I was born with. Incredibly, throughout my experimentation, my hair has never looked or felt damaged. It is as healthy, shiny and youthful looking as it was in my teens. I SWEAR this is true!!! 2. Janna's haircuts and blowouts are every bit as impressive as her flair for hair color is. You will NEVER leave her salon feeling that dreaded "OMG... WHAT the F*** did she give me a mullet for when I SPECIFICALLY asked for a BOB???" or "This blow dry makes me look ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!" She is a fabulously talented hair artist and does colors, cuts and blow-dries better than anyone I have ever gone to. 3. We all want to find that stylist who's gifted. That someone who knows how to make us look better than we've ever looked before. Janna is worth the trip to LA every 12 weeks. Her color coverage is so good that I can go 12 weeks between visits. She is a delight and a joy and worth every penny. She is always the first person I call when I am coming to town. Janna knows hair, and she knows what feels right. Hair grows right after its been cut, and her color sense is amazing. I am 25 years old and have been going to Janna for three years- I found her through my mom :) When I first showed up (three years ago), I told her that something felt "wrong" with my hair and when she started cutting it she told me that half my hair was longer than the other half.... HA, i knew i wasn't crazy. Luckily, Janna fixed the mess of the previous hairstylist and I am now going to go to her forever (even if i move out of LA.) over the years, i have had my hair long, short, bangs, blonde, red, brown-- you name it, i have tried it. Janna is awesome at all of it and gets to know you on a personal level. Janna did try to talk me out of bangs because she knew that i would hate styling them and she was right, i hated styling them, but they were cute when she cut them. The fact that she knows me and gives good advice, but also respects my decisions it very important. I love that janna is laidback, fun, and has the best and funniest stories. Definitely go to Janna if you want a stylist you can trust. Absolutely a beautiful salon!! Very clean and modern good vibes and great location. I recommend going to Ashley she is a miracle worker! I've been coming to Ashley for about a year now and I could not be happier. I'm a red head and It has always been so hard for me to get the exact red I've been looking for but Ashley has definitely made that happen for me. It's has been so hard to find a hairdresser that I really enjoy but she has became the one! She is very honest and tells me exactly what I should and shouldn't do to my hair to keep it healthy. I'm always happy with the results I get when I come here. She is also amazing at doing blow drys which is very important to me in a hairdresser.
