Loved this place. I had the kung pao and snuck a bite of my companion's general chicken. Both were great with a huge portions. The man behind the counter was so friendly and even recognized my date from years before. Cool customer service. I just moved down the street, so ill be back soon. We went here for lunch on a Saturday. There were a few people there. The place is a bit run down, dim and well...depressing. There was one man doing all the duties..who I assume was the owner. The order was also wrong...though I am forgiving of that as I changed it at the last moment and ordered something off-menu. We went for sushi...and I was not impressed. Tiny selection. The fish was fresh enough, but presentation and basically everything else was sub-par. It is possible that this guy was not the sushi chef, as we noticed he told the next folks that sushi was not available at lunch, perhaps realizing his attempt was doing more damage than good. Well, we were hungry. Normally, but would go to iSushi for Japanese in issaquah. But when or daughter choose Japanese for dinner we thought let's try something new and we thought let's try this restaurant. The place looked nice. The first thing tried was the restroom and was happy at least it was clean. Now, it the menu selection was quite limited. I don't think the owners running the place are real Japanese since asked about real Japanese food and they didn't have any clue. Thought their'chicken bowl' was oyakudon but they she had no clue what oyakudon was. So I wanted something with shrimp. Tempura or shrimp fried rice and speed for shrimp fried rice. When the food cane, I ended up with a chicken fried rice. The food was not bad. .. but they charged me for the shrimp fried rice which she was so stay clear in the beginning that shrimp was more expensive than chicken. So I pointed that out to her. Glad that they fixed it. But if your are not keen, you'll miss it since they will give you a check that is not itemized. I had to call her to point out every charge on there and what they were for. Kind if sneaky. When we got home, my husband had a tummy ache. So, not sure if food is such a good thing over there. I don't think we'll be going back. read more

I love this place. Our family are regulars and we all have our favorites. The owner (and sushi chef) is warm and so hospitable... Always excellent service. My youngest is 7 and we have been coming since she was a baby. It's her favorite place to eat out. The sushi is fresh, and rolled skillfully. I decided to visit this restaurant during a shopping trip. It is a really clean and nice restaurant with a family business feel. I only waited a couple minutes to place my order and the owner was very nice and friendly. The man in front of me gave him a big tip and the owner tried to give some of it back to him. That to me showed how nice he was. The restaurant wasn't to busy and my roll got to me in about ten minutes. The prices were really fair and I felt like I got a really good deal for a sushi roll and a soda. I think it was around 12 bucks. It was so good. I forgot the name of it but it was presented really nice and the fish tasted fresh and that right amount of chew that sushi should have. It was so yummy. It was the perfect amount for a quick lunch stop. The owner kept asking how the meal was and asked how I liked it all. I was really happy with the meal and the experience. I went there twice. The first time was fine but unimpressive. The second time it made me want to gag and I couldn't get more than a few bites into my food. It honestly felt like there was bleach or some other foreign chemical in the sauce. This wasn't because of any burn but because of an acrid taste and smell, like they were trying to cover up something having gone bad. For the sake of the owners I hope this was a one-time thing and something terrible just happened to happen to my food, but I'm certainly not going back there. read more

I have lived in Issaquah WA for 12 years. I was craving teriyaki chicken decided to try Japan Ginger. I ordered the teriyaki chicken and was so excited. The chicken tasted like it was poached then watered down teriyaki sauce poured over it. I contacted them they said there was nothing they were going to do about it. Japan Ginger is a nice little restaurant in downtown Issaquah! They have a good variety including sushi, teriyaki, noodle bowls, fried rice and even phad thai. You have no idea what kind of love and effort Simon and his wife have put into this place through the years . To those who have complained about the service : here's the hard facts - they usually run with minimal staff at all times . Why ? To be able to afford better quality ingredients. Basic sushi, basic teriyaki. Ordered two rolls, the rainbow and the spider. The rainbows fish was cut unevenly, and so was the roll, I was also flavorless. The spider had barely any crab, the menu photos roll was 2x the size of the one I was served, I was also not served the legs of the crab. Left hungry and will not return. read more

You may not enable to expect this level for the hand maki sushi, as well as Nigiri sushi, for this price, in any place. It will be a unexpected surprise if you order their sushi rolls. I don't have much to say about it except that the owner appears very polite and gracious all the time, and the food is all right when you're tired of most other things on Front Street. This is one of our favorite Japanese restaurants, which we have been visiting for years. We love Japanese cuisine so have tried pretty much most of the area's Japanese restaurants, and love this because the food is consistently well prepared, good portions, nice variety and a reasonable price. The owner is wonderful, very welcoming and kind. He has seen our son grow up from a child to an adult. It's nice to support an independent, owner run business! The only downside is that traffic on Front Street can be a nightmare and with street parking -- not great. There is extra parking behind the buildings, just requires a bit of walking. read more

I have been to a lot of teriyaki places all over the Greater Seattle area...and regarding the portion size of chicken teriyaki here ...all I can say is "seriously?" Average (at best) amount of chicken but very small amount of salad and rice. More of a lunch portion size. Sauces seemed watered down too. As someone else mentioned, I found it odd seeing one person doing all the duties ..wait tables, cook, sushi etc. Needless to say we left hungry and dissapointed. read more
