I'm always looking for a new teriyaki place to try since I eat if often. This one is close to the job site I'm on so I decided to give it a try. I'll keep it short and to the point. 1. The place was clean. 2. The staff was friendly. 3. A wide variety of food (They also serve sushi). 4. A little pricey for what is. 5. The food was just so so. I had a chicken and beef combo and the beef seemed like broiled beef jerky while the chicken was just ok. I didn't take a pic because I felt it wasn't worth enough to post. Probably won't be back. Worst teriyaki and so far the most expensive chicken and beef I ever had 24.75. Teriyaki meat had no teriyaki souse and the final the smallest portion I had yet seen. This place is right next door to my husband's dentist and it was snowy and icy so I needed something close and hot to feed the children. This was definitely a thumb's up. We had one order of the Beef Yakisoba (which the owner recommended) it was really good - it was a bit on the peppery side (and I love pepper). The beef was excellent and there were lots of veggies. The girls shared a chicken and gyozo combo. The portions on the combo weren't huge like most teriyaki places but the teriyaki chicken was good (it wasn't to sweet which is usually my main complaint) and the gyozo's were fantastic (they were like fried wontons). A co-worker picked us both up some chicken teriyaki from Japan Ginger last week. While the chicken was tender, it was lacking flavor. The portions of both chicken and rice were rather miserly, and only a splash of teriyaki sauce on the rice. If you crave great teriyaki--go to Yumiko's Teriyaki in Bellevue (see reviews--many of us have gone here for over 20 years!). TL;DR: Japan Ginger falls flat for teriyaki. read more

Came here with my sister and her husband, who come here regularly. This place is an amazing one man show. I have been coming here on and off for over 10 years. I have never ordered teriyaki as I normally am a sushi over teriyaki person. This place is quiet and consistent. What upsets me about seeing other reviews that are less than 4 stars is that they are one off experiences. This is a small business with small margins for profit. So, keeping in mind that I have only ever seen one person, the owner, working day in and day out, I would expect from a true Japanese restaurant to have smaller and more controlled portions. Large portions are crudely American. The sushi here is wonderful. I recommend the hand rolls. Do yourself a favor and try this place. read more

We were craving Teriyaki and could really only find Japan Ginger (not huge fans of Teriyaki Bistro by Fred Meyer). The wait was only 10-15 mins, but when we brought it home, we found that there was hardly any teriyaki sauce on the chicken, and theres no sauce on the side to pour over it either. We have been going here for many years -- good service, friendly staff. My favorite is the beef teriyaki and the California Rolls. The salad is basic, but the salad dressing is very good. They also serve beer. It's owned and operated by a local family which is a huge plus as we like to support Issaquah's small, local businesses. I don't get it when the owners aren't nice....do they really want your business? Anyway. Pros: great location and friendly wait staff Cons: the dishes are expensive (about $13 for terriyaki combo plate) but quite small (as in, one scoop of rice and six pieces of chicken with some salad on the side). There was an aire of frugality that was a bit a off-putting (e.g. we ordered a Pepsi and were brought the bottle without a glass. When asked, the gentleman bought a small glass with a bit of ice. No straw at all). Another example, the wasabi that accompanied the California roll was the size of a raisin. These are not great offenses but does seem kind of shortsighted if one is to be a successful establishment. Overall, it was not a horrible experience ... Like I said, the wait staff is very courteous. But, I don't think we'll be back :( read more

Fantastic fresh sushi. I had the Issaquah Roll (california roll with sushi) and salmon nigiri - I like Salmon, okay? The date had Combo B - 7 pieces nigiri with a tuna roll - and the Koala Roll (something with eel on top). All made fresh. Add some sake and a Sapporo and we are golden, pony boy. This is a great, little place for sushi in downtown Issaquah. It's a modest restaurant and can be easily missed if you're not paying attention, it's located in between the old Shell gas station and Max's Cafe. The prices are about average for sushi. The sushi is fresh, we've never been disappointed. They also offer a variety of teriyaki and yakisoba dishes, but I've only ever had the sushi. Most people tend to get take-out, I rarely see people actually dining in. Give this place a try if you're in downtown Issaquah. read more

I absolutely LOVE Japan Ginger! Teriyaki is my favorite food, I have been to dozens of teriyaki places. Japan Ginger is the best I have had in Issaquah and is one of my favorite restaurants in town! Teriyaki chicken can be chewy at some places... I have one experienced this once or twice at JP. Eggrolls and gyoza are awesome! The people who work there are so nice as well. read more

Great Gyoza Great service (although the owners don't speak the best English so it's not always easy to ask questions). Mediocre California roll. They have a teriyaki chicken and Tempaura combo for $11 something. We must have gone on a day when they were low on vegetables because all we got was one piece of onion, one sweet potato and three pieces of squash. Upgraded chicken to "spicy breast" and the combo jumped to $16 which I feel was a little much for lunch. Once, my son ordered chicken yakisoba and it was so greasy he threw up... I can't quite get him past that and he never wants to eat there now. read more

If I hadn't paid over thirteen dollars for this meal, I would be 100% sure that I was accidentally served from the kids menu. Ordered the teriyaki and California roll combo. Was served miniature portions of flavorless food. Bland, room temperature chicken. Over-cooked rice. The tiniest shreds of iceberg lettuce with a drop of salad dressing. California roll that seemed more like one California nibble. And, a cloudy looking cup with chemical flavored water to boot. I have wanted to pop in and try this place for years. Perhaps, subconsciously, there was a reason I never made it happen. At the very least, the gentleman seemingly running all parts of the show did flash a smile when I walked to the register to pay. I used to live in Issaquah during my high school years there, now I live in Tacoma, WA. Majority of my friends live there so every other weekend I spend the weekend there. When it comes to Issaquah eateries really suck; lack of variety. You can always rely on Japan Ginger and their food. I am a huge rice junkie so I always order their fried rice or teryaki chicken. Living off of downtown Issaquah, I've driven by this place literally thousands of times and never stopped in until today. I will say that I must have a sixth sense, because I never should have stopped. Simply stated, I give a lot of restaurants great reviews, but this deserves a one star or less. Honestly, the most processed tasting crappy chicken ever. My experience; Clue #1 - when I walk in at 12:40 on a Wednesday and you can hear crickets chirping because I'm the only one there, that's a sign. I was short on time, so I decided to order anyways. Mistake #1. Clue #2 - They've been in business how many years? I know it has to be at least 5, which tells me that the person that is taking my order should have at least enough English in 5 years to have a conversation. I swear, I felt like I was ordering off of the 'point to it' menu at McDonalds. I should have known that he didn't know what the hell I was saying when I asked him a question and he goes to the back and already puts in an order for me when I didn't order at all. Mistake #2 - should have walked out right away. Clue #3 - I ordered off of their combo menu and got the teriyaki chicken and California roll, but asked if I could substitute spicy chicken instead. He said yes, but one dollar. ($11.50 total). OK, so what do you cover the chicken with if I don't substitute....teriyaki sauce? Am I not just switching one sauce for the next? Mistake #3 - should have walked out, once again, but didn't have the time. When the food came, I knew I'd made a grave mistake. The chicken looked awful and was covered up with a red sauce that looked like sriracha mixed with red pepper flakes. Which, was such a great deal for the $1 considering I was looking at a bottle of sriracha-esque sauce that was on my table for free. Took a bite.....ugh. Processed and devoid of intentional flavor. I could have put this together in my kitchen and I suck at cooking. Portion was skimpy and looked like a mix of white and dark meat, which is a no-no in my book. Now, on to the sushi. It was good, not great, which is hard to make a really good assessment considering it was the smallest portion of sushi I'd received in my life. 4 pieces that were no bigger than an inch in diameter. The wasabi, ginger, and the soy sauce, I can tell you, were good, but as for the sushi....I'd have to have a real size in order to truly assess. I'm a big believer in giving any restaurant a second chance, but you'll have to find someone to take me that's bigger and strong than me, because I'll be kicking and screaming the whole way there. Save your money and go to any other teriyaki joint in Issaquah. Or, tell you what, take $11.50 in your wallet, call me, I'll meet you there, hit you over the head, take your money, and you'll wake up with a better value. read more

I make it a point to stop in here pretty regularly. The food is great, the owner runs it himself and is a really nice guy. Sushi options depend on what he has fresh, but he always has a good selection of the more common rolls. The teriyaki is good (I recommend getting extra sauce if you get it to go; he does not drown everything in too much sauce like some places) and is available in good lunch and dinner combos. They also have the world's best egg rolls. You won't be disappointed! read more
