My husband and I enjoyed a date night at Japan Inn last night and I have to say, it's the best sushi I've had yet in Greenville! The server we had was friendly and prompt with bringing food but not too overly pushy with checking on us. We ordered the fried calamari to start and for $9 you get a very large plate full. It was crispy and tasted great. The appetizer offer is so big it could be a full meal. We took advantage of the BOGO specialty rolls and got the Surf & Turf & Paradise rolls. The surf and turf was my personal favorite of the night. The paradise roll was also great. We ordered a spicy crab roll on the side and even thought it is basic, my husband said that was his favorite. Japan Inn really surprised us and after some mediocre sushi experiences in the area, I'm happy to have found somewhere to grab sushi and at such affordable prices. For my husband and I's meal + 2 drinks, it was around $55 and we left full and satisfied. Looking forward to coming back and bringing our family next time they're in town. read more

Been here several times and one thing that sticks out to me is how slow it is even when there are not a lot of tables! I came here around 1pm, but have been here at all instances of different times. The food is good for the price and they have deals on their sushi, however for a family (of 5) the wait can be quite strenuous and long. It's been like this several times I have been here. The waitress also rarely checked on us and was rather brief in a rush, when again... it was not busy. Tables sat unbussed for a while when again there is not much of a rush...Maybe 14 tables in here? Japan Inn is my go-to sushi place in Greenville. It's versatile enough that you can go for a nice date or you can go in sweats and a t-shirt, which I love. I usually end up with the pick 3 sushi rolls with a side of seaweed salad or spring rolls and I'm never disappointed. I have recently started getting the poke bowl and it's also great. There are definitely fancier sushi restaurants in town, but for the price, quality, and versatility, you can't do better. read more

I'm pretty much done with this place. I've tried everything I could on the menu and I can't eat there anymore. I tried the Pineapple Chicken tonight and the chicken was cooked until it was dry and hard. Some of it was charred! I pushed those aside. I wonder if the raccoons will eat it. When I tried the hibachi steak (med. rare) and shrimp, the shrimp were hard, the steak was overdone but the vegetables were hardly cooked at all. I have been to Japan Inn twice now. I dined inside once with a group of about 7 people, and another time I ordered food for pick up. Both times, I was greeted by friendly waitstaff and treated promptly and with respect. The first time I dined in, I ordered sushi. I did not particularly love it and could only find myself eating a few bites before having to put it away entirely. That said, I feel like it's exceptionally important to note that I wasn't actually "in the mood" for sushi, which can definitely have a huge impact on whether or not one enjoys the dish. The second time I ordered from Japan Inn, I ordered hibachi, although at this time, I cannot remember exactly what it was that I ordered. I remember not being exceptionally pleased or blown away, but also not disappointed either. I do plan on returning to Japan Inn again in the future, and I will be sure to update my review as necessary. read more

Only place here in Greenville that does BOGO all week. Sushi is not bad. They give you plenty but sometimes the rolls are not rolled tight enough. Which makes it hard to pick up the sushi in one piece. The dancing eel roll and orange dragon roll is pretty good. Once you find something you like just keep ordering it! There's always plenty of space here so no line. Only downside is the seats are connected to the next table so if you lean back the other person sitting on the other side would be pushed. Also it takes awhile for the sushi to come but I don't mind. read more

The ambiance was very nice. The service was outstanding even though it did take a quite a long time for our main course to come. The pork gyoza was amazing it is a must try. The chicken and steak hibachi was also very good and flavorful. The ramen was okay. Wish they added more soup to it and also separated the noodles and vegetables so that I could put it in my self. My partner and I regularly go here because the food is good. The food was good until my partner bit into a piece of sharp plastic, I waited until our waitress returned to our table to point it out and she dismissed it as a rice noodle. Firstly she didn't bother to even take a second to look, second it could not be chewed and third it almost cut up his mouth. This came with the pork gyoza he ordered. I didn't want anything free, I just wanted her to check to make sure no one else would get any. I did not get her name, but I've never seen her before. 1) She checked in on us that one time and never came back 2) She wouldn't take a second to look 3) She was not packed with tables. Went today for dinner with a friend and the waitress was super nice. However, the shrimp in the shrimp hibachi came out burnt and they forgot my friends soup that was included with her meal. As we were leaving we noticed a roach beside our table. We quickly stood up to leave and the waitress raced to get our checks while we stood at another table. As we waited for the checks we watched as the roach crawled onto the table and all around our leftover plates. As college students we had no choice but to laugh uncomfortably at it. Some of their options on the menu also had additional prices for the "better items" like shrimp tempura or seaweed salad and even ice cream. They do give you the chef roll specials on the dinner AYCE menu too. But there's NO sashimi here for AYCE. :( Can only order 25 PIECES at a time... like come on man. Making me do math before I get ma food. And you're allowed to through 3 pieces of sushi on each plate before they charge you. They won't charge for leftover appetizers. Never order from here, they will take your money. We ordered hibachi and 2 rolls, the buy one get one free option for take out. When we got home we were missing a roll. When we called, the lady was very rude and proceeded to tell us we only ordered one roll (which is a lie because online ordering requires a 2nd roll to be selected) when in fact our receipt listed both rolls and the worker who gave us our food read off the 2 rolls. Only second or third visit here and probably won't return. Not bad but not good either. Went here because my go to, Shogun, was full. Started with poor service from hostess. I asked for a booth but she wanted me to sit at a small table in the middle of the floor or a small high bar table near the bar. I pointed out five booths that were empty but needed cleaning. When a waitress offered to clean a booth for me the hostess laid the menu down and walked off without a word. I felt she was mad that I got my way. It was then 10 minutes before my order was taken, as I watched 2 tables around get seated and orders placed. OMG this place rocks. They have an all you can eat menu with appetizers, soups, sushi, sashimi, and dessert. You check off all you want and then they bring it to you. The sushi was incredibly fresh and wonderful tasting. My favorites were any of the sushi that had the fish or something else on top and then the rice on the bottom. These were delicious. Also our waitress was so nice and the alcoholic drinks were excellent and very reasonable. This is not a buffet, you check off what you order and then they bring it to you. The crab rangoon was really good too as was the tempura vegetables. I will certainly return as for under $20 this place can not be beat. read more

The interior design, with the hardwood and mahogany tables, and individual rooms with tatami pads and paper doors, does resemble a Japanese inn quite a lot. First thing first, AYCE sushi is not all bad; you don't have to sacrifice quality for quantity. I have had some great AYCE sushi around the country, Japan Inn can do it decently. HOWEVER, I wish they would use a little less panko padding all the rolls; it gives a good texture but personally I'm just not a fan. On another note, AYCE dinner let you choose from the chef special rolls. If you don't like sushi that's okay too, ask for the regular menu, and you can still have a feast choosing items like seaweed salad, beef tataki, any Hibachi or Teriyaki dishes (with your choice of meat or seafood or veggie), Noodles (udon soup or stir fried soba), Tempura and Katsu varieties. If you want a little taste of each, try to get the combination box meal. (P.S. my favorite appetizer here is the Sesame Cold Tofu, great before meal on a warm summer day!) I can't attest for the cocktail and martini menu, but as long as they have Nigori (unfiltered sake) I can have my meal in peace. read more

Ok update: the specialty rolls are Bogo which I was not aware of before and was simply ordering plain rolls that had nothing to them. The specialty rolls are much tastier and have thicker cuts of fish on them. They are larger rolls and all around better quality. I actually enjoy going to japan inn when I am ordering from the bogo menu. The hibachi is also pretty good! The wait for sushi rolls is still extremely slow but the staff is always pretty friendly! read more

This restaurant is between a two and a three. Upon entering you think it might actually be promising but it was a letdown. We got the spicy salmon and crab roll and I've never had sushi that had rubbery seaweed. The sushi was also weirdly warm. I ordered the hibachi steak and shrimp and it came to the table cold, the zucchini was mush, and you could tell the steak was the cheapest cut they could find because of how rubbery and flavorless it was. Service took longer than expected as well considering the restaurant was practically empty. All this for a $19 plate of food. Very disappointed. read more
