Wow, what a great hidden gem in the Valley! I recently placed a takeout order and was blown away with the incredible flavor and large portions here. Right off the bat, I was grateful to have a Thai restaurant that was extra sensitive to my peanut allergy (and my dad's sesame allergy)--this is a challenge for me any time I want Thai food. I was especially appreciative that they called back after we placed our order to confirm the allergies, and that the food we ordered was safe to eat. Khun Dang is tucked into a small strip mall that has very limited parking. Some of the spots are color coded green, but it wasn't obvious if there was a time limit or if they were designated for a particular business. Inside, there are a few small tables and booths (2-4 seats), and one larger table that seats 8. It's definitely a cozy spot! Picking up our food was a breeze, and the woman packing up our food was friendly. Everything was packaged neatly and we had no spills. She also offered us their hot sauce which was very spicy and delicious! We ordered a variety of dishes to share between three people, and we still had a decent amount of leftovers. One notable highlight about everything we ordered: nothing was oily. The sauces and flavors really shined, and everything was well-made and fresh. *Vegetable Egg Rolls: solid, standard appetizer. The only downside was that the dipping sauce was on the bottom, so we didn't see or use it until we finished half of the egg rolls. *Mongolian Beef (stir fried beef with mushroom, onion and oyster sauce): WOAH. This was super delicious. First, the quality and freshness of the meat was there-super tender, not chewy and perfectly large pieces. The sauce was incredible and so flavorful. There was around a half-cup worth of sauce in the container after we finished, which I drank happily. *Combination Fried Rice (chicken, pork, beef and shrimp): Another solid portion, and really packed with flavor and fillings. I particularly liked that all of the veggies were cooked, but not mushy. *Pad See U (rice noodles with black soy sauce, egg and Chinese broccoli. Includes choice of either chicken, pork, tofu, beef, shrimp, or combination): This is my go-to dish when I get Thai food. I got it with the chicken, which was very good and moist. The noodles were cooked well, and the flavor was a perfect balance without being super salty. *Chow Mein (pan fried egg noodles with meat and vegetables. Includes choice of either chicken, pork, tofu, beef, shrimp, squid, or combination): My mom is not super adventurous when we eat out, so she went with a safe and solid standby. I was actually pleasantly surprised with this, and it had a subtle flavor. *Thai Iced Tea: Again a solid standby and perfect compliment to the spicy and savory dishes. I felt that this was a bit more flavorful than others I've had (not watered down, and not overpowering). Overall, I'm already looking forward to coming back with my #YEShusband so we can try even more things on the menu. Truly a delicious and filling meal! read more

Talk about a hidden gem--Khun Dang is the kind of hole-in-the-wall that makes you believe in food miracles. I wandered in on an empty stomach while waiting for a haircut next door, and let's just say... the Pad See Ew slapped. Perfectly chewy noodles, fresh veggies, tender meat--this dish passed my Thai food litmus test with flying colors. Turns out it's a husband-and-wife duo running the show--he's the wizard in the kitchen, she handles everything else like a boss. Power couple goals. Can't wait to come back and eat my way through the rest of the menu. 10/10 would skip the haircut next time just to eat more. read more

This is my favorite Thai food around. My family and I all love it! I have tried many places and always come back to this one! And I love supporting local family businesses! It is a very small hole in the wall restaurant. I think it has a total of 6 tables. So most of the time I order to go. Some of my favorite dishes from here are the green curry, panang curry, Tom kai Kai hot pot, mango chicken, Thai iced teas, and by far the best pad Thai out of all the places I have been. The only thing I would change... I wish they were open Sundays! But I also understand family time. Sundays just seem to be the day I crave Thai food the most! read more

Great Thai food judging from a Thai who loves Thai food. The food was sweet in general which is very common in Thai restaurants in USA. Food was quite delicious if we disregard the sweetness. Definitely recommend ordering medium rice if you go more than 1 person because the portion is much bigger. Khun Dang is a small hole in the wall Thai food spot in Chatsworth on Topanga. There are many Thai Restaurant's in the Valley, hit and miss on them. Khun Dang is a hit among the various options. The owner (I believe, she is anyway) is very welcoming and friendly. Service is fast and the food is great! We normally do take out, but they do have a small dining area that you can also eat in if you like. We come me here often for take out. Our latest visit we got 4 dishes. (Below and pictured) did not get soup this time, although highly recommended. We typically judge a Thai spot by their Pad See U and their curry and soups. Many places are heavy on the soy sauce, not here, I can tell you all are amazing. The Pad See U has excellent flavor and you get a generous portion. We love it! We got the Pad See U with Tofu, it is Rice noodles with black soy sauce, egg and Chinese broccoli. Always have to get at least 2 orders or more of this as we all devour it. We got the Panang Curry with chicken, it is beautifully flavored and filling. Panang curry is a coconut milk based curry with fresh chili and bell peppers. Hot and spicy. You can adjust the spice level on this or any dish for that matter, Mild to spicy, up to you. Yum! It does not automatically come with rice, so be sure to order or make some at home to go with it. We also got Mixed vegetables and added pork. The portion is a little smaller, but has a great variety of veggies and Chicken. Come with Cabbages, tomatoes, bamboo shoot, mushrooms, broccoli, bean sprouts, carrots, onions and bell peppers. Lastly we got an order of Chow Mein with chicken, the portion a pretty large with all the noodles, great for kids as well as adults. This dish has Pan fried egg noodles with meat and vegetables. Normally always get a Thai Tea as well, recommended, but not this visit. Do yourself a favor, support a small business and get an excellent meal as well. Enjoy! read more

I'm ready to lock my jaws on their crab Rangoon, Tom Yum Kai (soup), Pad See U & gravy chow mein. I was definitely ready to enjoy something so soft and savory for a rainy night. Dang! This was my favorite place for 2 decades. What happened? The pineapple fried rice is not the same anymore. But more importantly the beef they used was bad, like they used old meat. Is it new management or new chef? Something isn't right anymore and its kinda sad. read more

I order my food from Khun Dang in Chatsworth EVERY WEEK (without fail for the past six years) - that's how much I LOVE their food. Not only is their food delicious, but I consider it very healthy. I get a plentiful variety of fresh vegetables, seafood, a lean meat protein, hot soup in the winter, etc. I never get tired of their food, I look forward to eating it every week. How have I never reviewed Khun Dang?! I've been coming here for well over a decade and I can't believe I never wrote this one up. This place is amazing, one of, if not THE, best Thai restaurants in the SFV. Tucked away in a strip mall it's a 'blink and you'll miss it' location... but it is worth seeking this place out. It is truly exceptional. Their curries and pad thai are amazing, but what I come here for is the Pad Ka Prow with chicken. It is absolutely the BEST in the whole LA area. They offer a lunch special where you are served soup, dumplings, and the Pad Ka Prow on a bed of rice... it is the perfect amount of food for a hearty lunch and the flavors are out of this world. One tip, is that when you order things 'spicy' here, they are not messing around. I love spicy food, but medium is about as high as I can take it at this place. The first time you are here you may want to go a notch down on the spice, they do offer some chili sauce on the tables so you can always add some kick if you need to. They have a handful of booths for dining in, the place isn't fancy, but it's clean and comfortable. They also offer takeout. The service is always excellent... everything comes out right on time, so as you go from soup to dumplings to your main course you never have an empty plate in front of you. So if you're lucky enough to be nearby and have a hankering for some great thai food, head on in to Khun Dang... you won't regret it! read more

We used to love going to another local Thai place that's...well let's just say AMAZING. ; ) But we tried Khun Dang on a whim and I'm so glad that we did! The portions are generous, the food is well seasoned and the prices are lower than most Thai places in the area. It's a whole in the wall with that kind of feel. Always the best Thai food. We order from here very often and it is always so good! Our go-tos are the "dinner specials." I have tried almost every single one and they never disappoint. The "pineapple chicken curry dinner special" is my favorite. It comes with shrimp fried rice and a fresh side salad with delicious dressing. I forget what the exact price is, but it's around $12! Most Thai restaurants only give you the entree for that price. Kuhn Dang gives you a complete meal. The portions are always generous and the prices are very reasonable. My hubby and I had lunch on Saturday day about 1pm. It's was no customers at all. The restaurant was very dark. Almost couldn't read the menu. We decided to order three simple dishes. Pad Thai. Thai fried rice and Both noodles. The basic Pad Thai was very wet. Noodles broken to very small pieces. Only fives small pieces of chicken. Plain and no taste. Fish sauce and Thai chili couldn't rescue this dish. The very basic Thai fried rice with chicken. Very wet and no taste. How could a Thai restaurant go wrong with this simple dish. The third disastrous dish was the boat noodles. It was so bad that I couldn't describe how bad it was. I gave good tip. Not for the food or the services. But I felt sorry to them because during our visit. There were no customers. Lunch specials end at 3pm, which is good to know when it's 247pm and you're craving some Thai food. Thanks to the Yelp+Eat24.com combo I was able to order some cashew chicken, fried rice, and a thai tea quickly and efficiently and 15 minutes later when I arrived at the restaurant it was ready to be picked up and taken home. Unfortunately when I made it home I discovered that instead of giving me a thai ice tea i had been served a regular unsweetened ice tea. I checked my receipt and did in fact order the thai tea (and was charged that price, which I assume is more than the regular soda). This was the one thing I was really craving, so minus one star for messing up the order. The food however was good, especially for the price. It was a large portion, the chicken was good quality, and the veggies were fresh. I ordered the medium and next time would go as far as getting one spice level up. Finally found a local Thai restaurant that's delicious & authentic. I'm so happy my gf and I decided to give this place a try. My girlfriend always brags about some delicious real Thai food places around her area (Orange county) so I felt pressured to find an authentic one close to me in the valley! And I've succeeded!
