I've been coming here for Thai food for a while and it's consistently good. I especially love their Pad Thai and the wonton soup. They are my go-tos. Their Thai tea is also really tasty, but it is pretty sweet and caffeinated, so keep that in mind if that's your thing. I've been to Balboa Thai a few times before, and the food has always been fine -- nothing to complain about there. Solid, dependable Thai food. What really ruins the experience, though, is the girl behind the counter. I'm not expecting over-the-top friendliness, but she's just plain rude and makes the whole atmosphere uncomfortable. She'll just stand there and stare while people are eating, which makes it hard to enjoy your meal. Honestly, she needs some sort of outdoor hobby or something to take the edge off, because it's awkward for everyone. But when I revisited for a takeout, driving through awful traffic, expecting same experience as before, was I wrong. They'd lost their touch. Proteins were overcooked, flavors were lost. I've always been in the parking lot and have always noticed this Thai food restaurant, I guess today was the day to try it. I ordered food to go, I ordered a Thai iced tea and a chicken pad see ew. The Thai iced tea, for me was average and I guess for me personally I like it a lot stronger than how they made it. The chicken pad see ew was good and was average again, I think it lacked some flavor in a sense. Overall this place is good if you're in the area. Well that was a delicious dish! I got the pad sew ewe with tofu and it was very tasty. It had the right amount of savoriness and sweetness, and the tofu had the right balance of crispy exterior and flavor. My only small gripe is that I could sure use a slightly larger portion. I'll just to come back and have more. Looking forward to trying out the rest of the menu! Also, the lady who works there is very friendly and the place is quaint and clean. I have the Patsy who vegetable and it was good The broccoli was cooked perfect it was flavorful it was a skimpy portion but it was good and the egg rolls were good they were just mostly cabbage but they were fresh and crispy and the cabbage was pretty good. I got the chicken pad see ew, which is a stir fried wide rice noodle dish in a brown sauce with chicken, egg, and broccoli. This was tasty but not the best version of it I've had. It was also on the smaller size as far as portions go, so don't order this dish if you're starving or a big eater. Slightly above mediocre Thai food. It's fine. The staff are nice enough, but not super friendly. They try to rush you out really quickly. There is very little seating inside, plus it is always so hot in there. Some of their items are better than others! We ordered the dinner special, which is served all day, and is a pretty large portion (sharable size for 2 people). I had chicken, rice, and shrimp pad Thai and all the flavors were so different but blended really well. It was really delicious. Please tell me why this place is rated so high?!?! Went on Thursday to meet a friend and let's just say within 30 min both of our stomachs were bubbling. It has taken me two days to feel normal.
