I became a huge fan of Americano the first time tried in Rome many years ago. As a coffee drinker I simply thought an Americano was a watered-down espresso. I learned there is a little more to it. The Americano is my favorite coffee, although I usually drink a brewed black coffee. GC's Americano is very good and will probably be my go-to order there. Service was good and the young man behind the counter was quick to offer an Americano when I learned their regular black was being brewed. Anyway, I found a good spot for a coffee break (between shopping) whenever I am down at Stanford. And...the pics.

The salted caramel syrup is very strong after I mixed it in, and I do feel like they can add more matcha. I came here to do some work but found the seating area to lack convenient outlets. There are only two, and one of them is in the middle of an aisle, so no one can really sit there. Workers seem to be having a good time, laughing and singing along to the music. I did find it peculiar that they started putting up the tables and chairs around me ~2 hours before they closed. I felt a bit awkward about staying but then I was confused as to why they had started cleaning up so early.

I hear they make their own chocolate, so to imitate this at home would mean figuring out their in-house recipe. But damn...in the meantime, I'll be back for that mocha.

I never thought Jasmine and matcha could be such a great combination. The only downside was that it was too sweet for my taste. I took a mental note to adjust the sweetness level next time. This cafe specializes in Asian inspired drinks, roll cakes, basque cheesecakes, as well as Japanese puddings. The interior is super Japandi / minimalistic aesthetic. Their desserts have also been officially marked as "not too sweet" by my inlaws so you know it's got that Asian parent stamp of approval! I haven't tried the basque cheesecakes and the puddings, but have been a repeat customer for their roll cakes. So far I've tried their matcha, coffee, and black sesame roll cakes and all are fantastic. Super strong flavors and the chiffon cake isn't too dry. I will say for a single slice the price is quite steep, but it /is/ located in Palo Alto so rent is not cheap I would assume. Also if you wanted an entire roll, you have to order 2 business days in advance.

The Anton location in the mall is only takeaway, so you just order at the counter and go. They do provide a very pretty and well-constructed cardboard tray with a napkin/utensil holder built in if you tell them you're eating at one of the patio tables. Very thoughtful! We had a slice of their best seller, the Hokkaido milk charcoal crepe, which cost $12/slice. Simply put, the crepe was just too dry and overcooked. I personally look for crepe texture to be a little QQ (soft, but with some bite) and this was borderline rubbery. The skin also wasn't smooth: you could even see all the bubbles that formed. Cream was okay, nothing special or particularly "Hokkaido" about it; I've had dairy in Hokkaido and this didn't have any of the richness I remember. The little crunchy chocolate-covered wafer balls were a net negative to the experience. The sweetness of the chocolate was way too overpowering for how delicate the cream was, and I did not like the crunchy texture in the context of a crepe cake at all.

I absolutely love discovering mom-and-pop restaurants, and Jason's Cafe is definitely a hidden gem! We stumbled upon this place while grabbing coffee at Andy's and immediately noticed that most of the customers were regulars. The restaurant is quite spacious, with plenty of seating available. I ordered the Fisherman's Sandwich, and it was delicious! The crab cake was incredibly flavorful, served with tomatoes and arugula on a soft roll, and topped with Thousand Island sauce. The sandwich also came with a cup of their house-made clam chowder, which was creamy and packed with the fresh taste of clams. My boyfriend ordered one of their skillets, and while he said it was tasty, it was served on a regular plate rather than a hot skillet, which would have taken the dish to the next level. read more

This isn't a place to go out of your way to have a dinner date, but for lunch or brunch with a date, a friend, or a group of friends, it's perfect. Especially if you want the opportunity to have a deeper conversation. As far as the food, it was good for the price! My buddy got the chicken sandwich, which I've gotta try next time - it looked incredible (pictured below). My Philly cheesesteak was also good. Lastly, the service from the staff was A+! Very friendly and personable. I would shout out the guy who helped us but his name is escaping me at the moment. Only possible complaint I have is the music was a tad loud for a place aiming to cultivate reflective moments for conversations, reading, journaling, etc. If they are willing to turn the music a bit down or play instrumental music instead, I would totally come here again for some solo time to read or write! The omelette is soft and fluffy and wraps around a fun well sautéed medley of zucchini, tomatoes, and ground beef. The hashbrown is crispy and the whole wheat toast.. is toast. Can't go wrong there. Service is fast and friendly and while the interior is plain, it still manages to be cozy. Definitely visit if you're looking for a classic american breakfast.

We were seated immediately outside (plenty of seating indoors and outdoors), and they were quick to take our orders. The fresh orange juice was nicely pulpy. I ordered the banana and chocolate chip pancakes with a side of sausage. The pancakes were large (I went for the smaller size of 2 pancakes) and had the perfect amount of fresh ripe banana and chocolate chips. With a dab of butter and pancake syrup - mmmm, so fluffy, warm, and nostalgic. The side of sausage was greasy, but a necessary side to cut down on the sweetness. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal, and the service was very friendly and attentive!

It remains clean, friendly staff, constantly changing menu, and pricing that is reasonable especially compared to the adjacent hospital cafeteria which is like airport prices on steroids. What compelled this update? Yep another excellent burger. Bacon Cheese Burger with Egg: This was glorious and resulted in a change in my ongoing burger standings. The bun was fresh and sturdy. The patty well seasons and despite being on the thin side was juicy, the grilled onions added a savory sweet element to the affair. The arugula was a perfect way to offset all that richness and add a bit of peppery crunch to each bite. Lastly bacon was well it just did what bacon does to anything.. make it better Onion rings: Perfectly fried with a nice crunch. The batter to onion ratio was spot on as well. This is a place that pays attention to its frying. From fries to tots they are always excellent.
