Jason's Grocery & Deli is our go-to late-night spot, especially when the froyo cravings hit. We like running like crackheads to this place for their delicious frozen yogurts. The original flavor is hands down the best! The toppings selection is great too, with a good variety to choose from. Whether you're in the mood for something fruity or a little bit of everything, they've got you covered. We love loading up with fresh strawberries, popping boba, and a sprinkle of colorful candies--just like in the picture! Despite seeming expensive, it's actually not that bad price-wise. It's a sweet deal for a sweet treat (who knew indulgence could be so affordable?). Interestingly, despite being a grocery store, many people don't come here for groceries (there are simply better options out there). Instead, they flock here for the froyo. Its alt name is the "froyo spot," and for good reason. If you're in the area late at night and looking for a froyo fix, Jason's Grocery & Deli is definitely the place to be. Jason's is the best place in Ithaca to get frozen yogurt with over 8 flavors every day and tons of topping choices! It's a fully stocked grocery store with food, beer, and all the items you need for household use. The employees are very kind and friendly! I've been going to Jason's for over 20 years. It's easily accessible by bus or car in the center of Ithaca and the ambiance is great. read more

Jason, the owner of this store, just threatened me over the yelp application for leaving a bad review. Please see attached photo. Jason, the owner of the store, who often is at the register, is one of the rudest, most arrogant men I've ever had this displeasure of dealing with. He is incredibly rude to students that purchase from the store and creates a very hostile environment. Many of my friends have had horribly rude experiences with Jason. I have purchased smoking-related items from Jason in the past, and every single time he has made comments calling me a "lazy stoner" or has said that only those who are "not bright" purchase such products. Products that he proudly stocks. He also stocks a multitude of tobacco and nicotine items, and actively gets angry at those who purchase them. The man is absolutely insane. A very strange man was working the counter late on a Friday night: he said I didn't belong in the neighborhood and said "no one buys bread at this hour." Completely bizarre, unprovoked outbursts. I was wearing a mask, and he said "in this neighborhood, no one wears masks" (even though the sign on the store's front door recommends patrons wear them). I just had a flash back. Going to Jason's the day before St. Paddy's Day to buy a 6-pack of Guinness. Completely sober 21 year old. I hand JASON my ID. "I don't think so," he says. I'm confused, did I hand him the wrong ID? No its a 100% authentic ID with my picture. "What's wrong with my ID?" I ask. "No way are you 21." "My birthdate is on the ID. Can't you scan it or something?" "No, you look like you're in high school. You can leave now." Flabbergasted that a business owner could be that rude, I leave. Stunned. Then I walk down the street to Wilson Farms and buy the Guinness with no problem. I walk back to Jason's to flip him off and tell him I will never spend money at his store again. Jason's Grocery has every grocery item I need! The owner is so nice and kind and his staff are all highly trained and respectful of customers. Great frozen yogurt-it's healthy, there are fat free an low fat options as well as a fully stocked toppings bar. It is help yourself as the total cost is done by weight. It is $7 per pound, which sounds expensive...but given the fact that its soft-serve, you get a lot. I filled a small bowl for 2.25 complete with a scoop (yes a scoop!) of cookie dough. It actually came to about 3.00 but the guy gave me a break since that was all I had at the time. Also has solid prices for various groceries, a good selection for a small gas station sized market. Ok. Jason's. We get it. The only place open late, with overpriced everything. But that is not what has made me disgruntled. Every time I buy something here, it is expired! In December 2016, I inspected all 9 remaining Ithaca Hummus containers, LITERALLY all of them were expired and some had bacteria growing inside the container. I told the staff. They did not take them out of the fridge, rather they said, "oh thank you for telling us." Today's date is January 17th and I just bought ketchup that expired on DECEMBER 26th! This place is gross. I know a lot of food is safe to eat after expiration, but the fact that there is FRESH FOOD THAT IS SOLD EVEN AFTER EXPIRATION IS A HEALTH HAZARD. The hummus had expired HAD BEEN SITTING FOR THREE DAYS AFTER EXPIRATION. I am wondering when the next drunkard buys something and gets a bacterial sickness. Anyways, that's all. The staff is usually really nice, so I can't be too mean. Clearly the management has an incentive to sell expired produce to enlarge profits. Perhaps he is to blame. read more
